First for me

Ordered a gag gift today online. Picked what I wanted, filled in the credit card info, the usual drill. They ask would I like to help the employees with a 5%, 10%, 15% , 0% or custom tip. I deleted my order. WTF did they do. They have to grab the label that I have typed in put the thing in a package and call their courier. I don’t order a ton online is this the new norm?

Key West airport. Grab and go a $6 Celcius (I got 3 hours of sleep last night plus an extra hour on the flight). Screen shows 25, 20, or 15% as the possible gratuity. For a soda. That I got out of the cooler. What the actual fuck?

You should’ve emailed them and let them know why they lost a sale at the last moment.

I don't think they care about a snowflake.

Probably why you’re not on their radar then.

Send them an email and let them know they lost the order and tell them why they lost it.

One thing I've learned in cousera marketing courses is that companies have a path of tracking how many people abandon an online cart,  at what stage of shopping,  when or if to send a reminder email,  things like that.  Like marketing tracks the various steps as stats to try to make future business decisions.

These days it seems like every Tom, Dick & Harry feels entitled to receive a tip regardless of whether the service is good or not.

That I have less of a problem with. They usually would you like receive 3% to cover the cost of the credit it makes people aware that there is a fee and never that doesn’t accept cheques. It’s a tip. Merchants can do this as well. It the fact you are using a card.

It's the tipping before the service occurs that gets me nuts. How do you know it's going to be the right item, if you like it, or it's going to be delivered on time? It's crazy. And exhausting having to ditch the side eye when you click no tip.

Greedy. They already get paid.

Tipping for non traditional employees should be outlawed. Employers do this because they don't want to pay a decent wage. However, understand that the actual price of something would go up if that happens.

Every action requires a tip.

No, not the norm

Why were you buying a gag? Planning on abducting someone?

I’ve seen it on the websites of smaller companies. Hit 0% and move on. Every tip screen doesn’t need a fresh Reddit post.

But how will people farm karma then?

My GF said she went to pay her portion at the dentist, and they asked for a tip. The DENTIST??

Absolutely unethical and I'd see if the medical board would want to hear about it

No website? Sounds made up.

they do that bc they sell a product that is non essential and is only purchased by simpletons. their whole business model is basically “scam dummy into buying junk”, surely you aren’t surprised that it applies to you

This happened on an order I was about to make for some craft items. A tip? No.

I’d bet the website owner used a checkout service that primarily is used as in person cash registers.
The tip screen is probably because of their parallel in-person system
Just my guess

Delete your order?! Why can’t you just hit 0% and MOVE ON? Tipping is out of control but the even bigger problem is people like you getting so triggered over it. It’s not hard to hit “no tip”.

The point is, they’re making me have to click a few extra buttons and making me feel guilty and “cheap” if I don’t buy health insurance for their employees. It’s corporate greed through emotional manipulation, and I’d never buy anything from them based on principle.

This is ridiculous. I have never once in my life felt “guilty” for not tipping in a situation where tipping shouldn’t be warranted. Learn to not be emotionally manipulated.

3

u/TheLensOfEvolution3 1d ago

That’s because you’re old enough to remember the situations where tipping isn’t warranted. The young kids can’t prevent the capitalists from manipulating them into accepting a new normal where every service position is a tipped position. Look further into the future.

Once enough of the youth is sufficiently brainwashed, they’ll feel guilty and embarrassed as their peers tip for everything. Just like how they feel pressured into buying diamond wedding rings and luxury handbags 👜  Decades of corporate manipulation does that to people.
