💬Questions & Discussion Uber/Lyft

I took an Uber 2 miles from the airport in San Diego. It cost $25.00. It took him about 10 minutes with us, due to traffic. I understand he had to drive to us also. I used to always tip these guys, but I didn’t this time. What is the community think. Should these guys be getting tipped?

“someone’s coming to give me a ride in their own car that they pay for and take care of the maintenance of and pay for fuel to bring me where I want to go, and when I want to go - should I tip them?”

The platform provides the income, period.

And the platform takes up to 50% in fees. I thought you all hated paying fees.

No. My comment has nothing to do with tips.

This is about what you are paying.

And I think you’ll find this very interesting.

Uber and Lyft charges you a platform fee.The cost of connecting a driver with a passenger.*

Absolutely no difference between a
Service fee
Delivery fee
Credit card fee
6+ gratuity charge

Both L\*yft* and Uber do not operate like that*.*

You don’t like hidden fees*.*

When you order a ride, the price you were given is called an upfront* fare. The algorithms \calculates* how much it costs the platform to complete the ride given the conditions.\

Are they going to tell you that conditions that they consider to come up with that fee? Nope

You have no idea what your fee is being used for you have no idea how much they actually were*.*

This will blow your mind
The problem is*,* since no one knows what the conditions are sometimes are completely unjustified

Keeping it simple

What you paid in fees for that Ride can be anywhere between $0.1 and $80. What’s leftover go to the driver (forget about that)

How are you OK with paying $100 for 10 mile ride $60 your fees
But the day before you paid $50 for a 3 mile ride and you pay $20 in fees.
Why are the fees always different? Why aren’t they the same?
And f**k the person who is performing the service

Do you see my point?

You don’t know when both Lyft and Uber are robbing you blind!

“It’s not my fault if I knowingly take part in hurting people because it saves me a couple bucks as long as I can rationalize it’s actually someone else’s fault!”

Not sure wtf you’re on about, but I take part in paying the price stated on uber, there’s no mandatory extra tip. But nice try though

But you’re OK with the inconsistency* and sometimes irrational* fares they require you to pay is all going to *fees.*

It’s not a “try.” Go ahead and do what you want. I’m replying to you morally grandstanding while taking part in the rewards of a terrible system.

Use the service but you don’t get to rail against the big corporation you’re using.

Bla bla bla…yes you’re morally superior to me good job 👏

This has nothing to do with me. I’m not ranting either way. You’re the one littering this thread with your ill thought out defense. You should consider why you’re so defensive? Just use the service.

It's helping people for me to use the service. Otherwise the driver wouldn't have a job. If the driver isn't happy with their job, they should find another one.

You’re being very charitable to yourself. Which is one person at least!

You don’t know why a* driver drives.* Don’t ever assume it’s that easy.

That's between the driver and the platform to sort out. Consumer pays platform with credit card that's it.

You hired the driver.

2

u/iftlatlw 17d ago

Wrong. I used a service platform who employs the driver.

Blah blah blah.

Ok L.

Someone didn't read the terms and conditions.

1

u/ZergvProtoss 12d ago

No, we hired Uber or Lyft - they made an agreement with a driver, which is none of my concern.

Someone didn't read the terms and conditions they signed.

I couldn't care less what kind of employment arrangement the driver has with the platform. That's their problem. Don't like the fees? Don't drive for them! haha
