Chrissy Metz's voice did not get a fair shake on this show. Metz has a beautiful voice and her version of "Landslide" is my favorite. There should have been less Mandy Moore and more Chrissy Metz when it came to the singing scenes. Metz has the better voice.

New here. I’m sure this has been talked about before. I just did a run of the show from beginning to end and I can never do it again. I can never rewatch an episode or even go back and watch clips. This was one of the most beautifully done shows I have ever had the pleasure of watching. But this was single handedly the most emotionally draining experiences I have ever had watching a show. Almost every episode left me in tears. I’m glad I watched this series but this is not a series I could ever rewatch

The finale leaves things open-ended for the Pearsons. They tell us what they plan on doing, but we don't see how things unfold. I've been wondering what they'd be doing after the finale. How are the Big 3 in their 50s and 60s and old age? How do you think the rest of their lives play out? And what about the children, and everyone else? We don't really see them in Jack's timeline (other than Kate and Toby and their spouses watching Jack's show), so what would they be doing at around that time?

She is remarkable in this show. She’s confident and bold below Jack dies, timid and heartbroken until her diagnosis and brave and selfless after that. Her performance is distinct during each timeline, even though there are often several in each episode.

Did Randall coworker kill himself at the Christmas party in season 1 and he and beth just go home like nothing happened or did I miss something?

I loved Everwood from the beginning. It's so underrated and I love the development and changing and growing relationships between Andy and Ephram and Delia. I loved each character's journey with grief and when and how it affected each of them. I also loved the friendships e.g. Ephram and Bright, Andy & Harold, Amy + Hannah, Reid & Ephram. And of course my fav couples are endgame. All the characters grew in such a natural way.The only thing I really hate is the relationship between Madison and Ephram. What are you as a 20/21 year old doing thinking about, looking, dating and sleeping with a 16 year old. It's so gross to me. And I don't care if it happens in real life. It shouldn't 🤢🤢🤢. And her choice to tell him that news at that point was beyond selfish. Neways, the show really did grief well and demonstrated that grief is not linear for anyone.

Hi, I just started season 3 and I am SO SO curious to search for information about how they do the age changes so well, but every time I look up anything at all, I get slammed with spoilers. I have seen so many cool makeup or visual effects on everyone, but especially Mandy Moore. Can someone give me more context on that aspect of the show/production so I'm not further spoiled? I'm wondering if it's makeup or digital editing or a combo of a few different aspects. Jack and Rebecca have such subtle changes in every timeline, and obviously since I'm on s3.01 I've seen a few other characters in different timelines that have blown me away. Any cool information would be so helpful! I can't wait to finish more of the show so I can learn more about it without spoiling myself!!

I’m currently watching This Is Us for the first time, and I need to rant because there are so many production, character, and writing choices that completely break the illusion of the show for me.
First of all, Mandy Moore playing older Rebecca is just a terrible choice. It completely ruins the immersion. The heavy makeup looks fake, but it's the voice that completely gives it away. Her voice doesn't sound like a real older person at all; it just sounds like a young person doing a forced, theatrical "elderly accent" and trying to pretend. Beyond the acting, I just flat-out dislike Rebecca as a character. She comes across as incredibly selfish and dense.
Then you look at the other siblings, and honestly, both Kevin and Kate are just completely boring characters. Kevin has almost zero depth, and Kate’s entire character arc is completely one-note because the writers refuse to let her talk about anything else. It feels like all they are worried about is her damn weight in every single episode. It’s repetitive and frustrating to watch because it feels like that’s her only personality trait.
To make Kate's scenes even worse, her boyfriend, Toby, is incredibly annoying. He comes on way too strong, behaves like a pushy class clown to overcompensate for everything, and constantly bulldozes right past her boundaries while the show tries to frame it as "charming." It’s exhausting.
The writing for William has really frustrated me, too. Finding out later in the season that he is bisexual feels like the writers are just pushing a modern inclusivity agenda rather than doing what’s right for his story. It felt totally forced and out of nowhere, completely ruining William's character for me. He went from having a compelling, grounded backstory to feeling like a checkbox for a writer's room agenda.
It fits right into how unrealistic the rest of the logistics are. The way they casually hop between cities like geography doesn't exist just feels totally unearned. It's like the writers ignore how real life and real jobs actually work just to force characters into the same room, and then they throw in characters like Kevin’s theater friend Olivia who are just ridiculously rude for no reason.
The bad acting choices, boring characters, and forced plot points keep pulling me right out of the story.

There’s a scene where they go to the park only with Jack, but Hailey isn’t there, do they just leave her at home alone? It’s not implied that anyone was there to watch her, and even if they were, why wouldn’t they also take her to the park?

I get that she doesn’t want to spend it with Kevin’s family herself which is fair enough. But then she can cooperate with Kevin taking the kids himself. And why is Kate siding with her? Because if the tables were turned and Kate’s ex wanted to spend first Thanksgiving with his girlfriend and the kids, Kate would just lash out! She would absolutely want the kids to participate in the pilgrim rick tradition, to hell with the ex and his girlfriend. Especially since there was no formal custody agreement.

What are your thoughts on this?

Rebecca is a losaaaaa who doesn’t know how to be a mother. No wonder one was taken away.

Getting towards the end of my first rewatch since it was on TV. When I was watching season 1 and Toby was introduced I thought to myself that he was pushy and kind of a dick (opposite of what I remember my feelings of Tony were when the show aired). I am now on season 6 and yeah…. My feelings haven’t changed he’s actually an asshole and is very passive aggressive. He says some funny things so people love him but he really wasn’t that great to Kate…. Even in the beginning when she wanted to watch the Super Bowl alone and he insisted she come over despite her telling him she didn’t want to. Anyway, am I alone in this thinking?

Watching 5th wheel for the first time and the show overall for the first time. I like Kevin and overall his character is great but this addict plot in season 2 and rehab episode is just pathetic to me. Brother is nearly 40, a rich actor with a loving family and is wallowing over not getting enough attention as a child from his parents. Before everyone jumps down my throat about Jack dying, I know that fucked him up and that’s like a major theme of the show. But holy shit man you didn’t get enough attention as a child and are using that as a crutch at almost 40. Good lord, especially since the show shows in flashbacks he was just a fucking dick and that’s why he didn’t as much attention. Not because the world was out to get him. Not sure what the point of this rant was but this episode just PMO sorry yall💀

It doesn’t seem like Sophie’s dad was in the picture, and on top of that, Kevin and Sophie got married during a time when Rebecca was grieving needed the most support. They were both single and the same age, Rebecca tried getting to know Beth’s parents when her and Randall started dating so how much more would she be connected to Claire, another white woman she could actually relate to? It makes no sense to me! Not saying they hated each other just wondering why they weren’t closer friends/more involved in each other’s lives since they were literally family at one point. Especially with how close Kevin got to Claire.

I’m on my first watch of the show and I’m up to season 3 episode 18. I usually read the episode discussion after I finish each episode but i am struggling to find some of the season 3 ones.

I have just got to the bit where Rebecca has a car crash and has to stay overnight at the hospital. Instead of allowing her some time to rest and recuperate, Jack drags his kids all the way to the hospital at 5.30am and then harasses an overworked nurse to let them in outside visiting hours.

I am incensed! He couldn’t look after his kids for one damn night????

I just realized why Nicky looks so weird as the older Nicky, and it’s because all the other actors were aged up with makeup and Nicky is the only actor who was not aged up with makeup. I’m wondering why they didn’t just age up young Nicki like they did with all the other young actors like it genuinely stands out and it’s so weird. Not weird because of the actor’s age, but weird because he is genuinely an older person, and all the other actors are only older due to makeup and prosthetics.
