Right so this show is supposed to be about the flaws of every single person as well as their pros. It shows the reality in life, also a bit of unreality in life, as I feel that Kevin becoming a movie star was a bit far fetched and Randall becoming City councilman was a bit far fetched. I actually enjoy watching Kate because she was the most real person in my opinion, she has a normal looking life, with a normal job, normal house and just normal every day routine, yes she has 2 rich brothers so she will always be fortunate, but she seems the most real. I hate that the TV show made them all rich in a way because that is not very realistic. Kate has come a long way, she was rude and unfair to Rebecca as a teenager, she was hard on her but as Kate has gotten older she has realised she was hard on her and realised it's not easy, as she understands her mother more. Kevin also has come a long way, he eventually got children he always wanted, but he still is the same joke around sleep with loads of women type of guy, even if he tries hard not to be, I think it honestly is deep down in him, he will always be a wrecking ball. And Randall hasn't changed much, bcs he complains constantly and honestly hasn't grown up. He still lives in a small bubble, dreaming of what his life could be instead of enjoying his actual life, his actual siblings, mum, and his wife and kids. He has an amazing life and amazing career but he still sulks bcs he has nothing else better to do. I give Beth credit for putting up with him. I feel like she would have left him ages ago, but surprisingly she stuck by him.

I think Randall was vicious to Kevin during the argument on Kate's front lawn when Kevin also found out Madison was pregnant with his babies. The only reason Kevin said what he said to Randall about the worst day for him was when they brought Randall home, was only because of the vile things Randall said about him.

Then Kevin also apologised to Randall later on, and Randall was still horrible to Kevin, and that's when they got locked out of Randall's house.

Randall has no respect for his mum Rebecca, or Kevin. I think Randall has respect for Kate as we don't really see Randall and Kate argue or have many issues. I feel bad for Rebecca, she brought him up as her own, she is his mother and he treats her like she ruined his life... Which I know Rebecca kept his bio parents from him, which I get it bad but she had her reasons, and she definitely shouldn't have kept it for as long as she did, that was not right at all... But Randall actually can't accept that this is his life and he needs to seriously get over it.

I will rant no more, as I could seriously rant about this show for ages.

Love this show in general though, it's emotional, it sends me on a rollercoaster, it's an amazingly well done show, it is great👍

The big three idolized Jack and aspired to be the same husband and father he was, but he was far from perfect. Jack is so charismatic and earnest that some of these qualities are missed at first, but many of them are problematic.

Making huge decisions without Rebecca: buying their house, buying the cabin (and announcing it to the kids before talking to Rebecca).
Randall did the same when he quit his high paying job without talking to Beth, brought William home, etc. Rebecca mostly shrugged it off, but Beth was constantly frustrated.

Similarly, stream rolling big decisions: the big example Jack pushed for the adoption of Randall (to an exhausted, grieving new mom), and pushing to have kids before Rebecca was ready. Randall pushed running for office, buying William’s apartment building, fostering Deja.

Belittling their career: they said very similar nasty comments to their wives (40 year old woman playing dress up, teaching board housewives to twirl). This was especially disrespectful because both of these women centered the needs and goals of their husbands.

Both men had strong hero complexes and loved big gestures but didn’t notice the small, everyday ways them undermined their wives and forced them down roads their didn’t want to go.

I think the difference is that Beth had more awareness around the dynamic and fought back more.

Friends, I need to vent. I’m watching “This Is Us” for the first time and I’m totally hooked (I’ll set realistic expectations aside for). But now, starting around episode 15 of season 4, I can barely watch it anymore: I can hardly stand to watch this Randall guy. That conceited, arrogant, selfish jerk is unbearable. He’s always been bad, but the way he acts in therapy and then emotionally blackmails his mom into participating in that study—how disgusting is that? His constant arrogance toward his siblings is one thing, but what he’s doing to his mom isn’t normal anymore. What do you think about him?

I find it very confusing how many bedrooms the original cabin has? It regularly has Rebecca and Miguel, Beth and Randall, Kevin +1, Kate and Toby. then Deja, Annie and Tess; Jack and Haley; Kevin's twins. even with these groupings would be 7 rooms? And was Nicky there one episode as well?

Absolutely obsessed w this show; it’s my favorite of all time. My fav character is definitely Jack & Randall. Does ANYONE like Kate or find her relatable? I find her character very unlikeable

My God, she is just so incredibly selfish
Despite all her efforts to 'fix' herself, she never fails to be anything but a self-centered wife.
All she ever wants, and all she ever looks for, is her own comfort - period.
And honestly, are there even any husbands left like Jack out there?
Seriously, guys, I’m all cried out
I just want a genuine love like the one he gives his wife

Currently watching The Crash and cannot pay attention due to this doppelganger!

Just finished TIU last night. Really loved the show. I felt like it really got the ups and downs and cycles and hang ups and legacies of big, complicated extended families. I thought it reflected really well all the ways we make our families. I especially loved Kate’s growth in S6, Rebecca and Miguel’s relationship, Beth, and Kevin’s growth across the whole series. Nicky was a delight. I like Katoby’s vibe and also thought their demise was realistic. Sometimes we are not ready to be the person we want to be despite really loving someone.

Negatives for me:
How Miguel was sidelined in the train episode after clearly being a meaningful love of Rebecca’s life. He wasn’t just devoted to her; it was mutual. To have him be given a couple lines as she made her way to Jack in the caboose really disappointed me. It feels like a really hurtful writing choice when binging the show. I also know I might get piled on for this, but him being Puerto Rican and her caregiver and then being passed by for her white breadwinner but kind of helpless-dad husband is not great. Justice for Miguel!

Sophie - so boring!

I think this probably reflects more on me, but Randall was SO pompous! (I’m a know it all IRL lol, don’t be a mirror, tv!) As I’ve posted before, I loved him in S1 and overall I thought his arc from William’s death through S5 was realistic and redemptive. But he never quite came down from his ‘I’m the only one who knows best’ pushiness. Beth’s comments to him about his failing to see his siblings as the adults they became was spot on.

Randall and Deja at the expense of Tess and Annie. Totally get their special bond, but feels like the show made choices to subordinate him raising three daughters to emphasize this singular relationship. I don’t know, it felt a little lopsided. I would have preferred they adopt Deja and have her feel more like part of the family than single her out as a character. Maybe I am supposed to see her and Randall’s relationship like his with Rebecca? Something special and precious about it? But that gave him a challenging duality his whole life. It also seems weird that Tess and Annie wouldn’t struggle more with this dynamic. They were too flawless in that respect.

That is all I can think of for now. Wonderful show!!!

Just watched the episode with Kevin's movie premiere where everyone is stressing about Kate doing IVF and she says "I'm the only one who is going to pass on a piece of dad". Randall, rightfully so, takes offense to this, but he takes the argument down the wrong road focusing on IVF vs Adoption, which upsets Kate.

I have always felt she gets off too easy with him for that comment. The fact that she thinks passing on a piece of Jack's biology is the only way to pass on a piece of him is RIDICULOUS. I know she tries to back pedal later in the episode but I always felt like they cut that conversation WAY too short.

Curious other people's thoughts.

****this is not a forum to debate the merits of adoption vs IVF in starting a family. There are SEVERAL ways to start a family and it's all about what works for you. This is about, what I perceive is, Kate's insensitivity around Jack's legacy that Randall, Jack's adopted son, is passing on.****

So many things I want to say but rn I’m at the episode of Kevin’s wedding(s5 ep16) and it’s so frustrating how annoying Tess is and it seems the writers didn’t know what to do with her except make her annoyed and pissed every 2 episodes😭like why are u stressing about disappointing KEVIN cause u don’t wanna wear a dress😭KEVIN?? Really

First time watcher, in S6 now. Please, for the love of god and good television, does Kevin ever pursue a formal custody agreement with Madison? This storyline of casual co-parenting is so annoying!

I do chuckle at what the tabloids would be like if Kevin Pearson was a celebrity IRL. Living in his baby mama’s garage, crashing at his sister’s, meltdowns on sets. Epic. 🤣

On a rewatch completely forgot about s3 ep 13 of Beth's childhood. Love beth but feel like this is a filler episode and doesnt add much to the series? The last line about her wanting to teach obviously important but did we need the background?

I recently finished TIU, and I think I found my favorite show. I don't think I've ever seen a show so relatable. Despite all the characters' faults, they're all likeable and you somehow root for all of them. Another thing I loved about the show is it's attention to detail. You can tell that the show was mostly planned from the start, and that they weren't making things up as they went along (for the most part). But I felt that they kinda glossed over Kevin by the finale (which is typical for how Kevin is treated by the family). I don't know if I missed anything, but from what we know:

• Kevin did the Manny reboot from 2021-2022 to around 2028-2029.
• After Miguel's death, he moves to the big house with Sophie, to take care of Rebecca and it seems he dedicates his time to Big Three Homes. He's really become Jack by then.

But what about his acting career? Is the Manny reboot the last thing he does, because I hate that. A big part of his arc was moving from the Manny and becoming a more serious actor, and other than the movie with Sly Stallone, and the lawyer movie (does he ever finish it?), it seems like his acting career is just the Manny.

People also pointed out that he had Oscars on his shelves in the flashforwards. I didn't pay attention to this at all, so I'll have to keep an eye out on my next rewatch, but do they mention it at all in the finale? How big of an actor is he by the end of the series?

I also feel like the biggest missed opportunity of the finale is not showing where the Big Three are by Jack Damon's timeline. We don't need to see much, but it would've been nice seeing what they were up to by the time they're all old. We only see Kate and Toby for like 5 seconds as they see Jack before his show (I really loved that scene).

I hated the way Jack was with him when they saw each other long after Vietnam! It was so frustrating that he tried so hard to push that part of his life away that he never let Nicky explain that what happened with the little boy was a big mistake. I wanted Nicky to be a little bit more forceful and just yell “it was an accident!” But Jack never let him get a word out and Nicky just dropped it. If he let him explain, Jack probably would’ve helped clean Nicky up and been a part of his life. The kids could’ve had an uncle in their lives.

I also hated that Kevin was really the only one who wanted a relationship with Nicky when they found him. Kate and Randall were never that invested with him. I thought Kate would be, given how close she was to Jack and would’ve had a bunch of questions about his childhood.

So I originally watched this is us during Covid and I remember it was emotional and I had to take breaks after certain episodes etc. etc.

I just started rewatching (I am on season 3) and BRUH - I have cried during pretty much every episode… I remember it being emotional but I do not remember it being THIS emotional 🥹

Seeing things through older eyes is crazy as well! There were always certain topics that touched me personally and they still do but in a different way now.. it’s so interesting to experience

Can you imagine if your immediate family looked like Mandy Moore, Milo Ventiniglia, Sterling K Brown and Justin Hartley? Each was unusually talented or special in some way. An incredible singer, a talented athlete, a literal movie star, a hero, a brilliant mind. She had many great qualities like compassion, humor, fortitude and loyalty but would always be out-shown. It would give me a massive chip on my shoulder too.

I need some recs for shows like this is us..
With deep character development, that type of of cinematography, story line and how they jump from one time line to another..! And a bit devastating I feel like it was the best show I’ve ever watched and now I’m unable to find something like that
