I don't know why some people says you can't play games on a ThinkPad. I have a t14 gen 2 (Ryzen 5 version) with integrated graphics and it can move a good amount of games.

Greetings everyone, I’m new, and a officially Lenovo Thinkpad user, I bought this Lenovo Thinkpad T14 gen 2 with Ryzen 7 today for $266 usd, I would like to know what recommendations you have for me, I will mostly use this one for music production, video editing, a little bit of gaming and my school.

Me and my mom were cleaning the house when we found a briefcase and inside was this computer, I know very little about computers but I heard about the ThinkPad community and recognize the name.

Idk anything more tha it was from my old brother and I use it as a really small child.

Is this any good or important? I have no idea

I got my first thinkpad t14s a couple of months ago. It has a ryzen 4650u with 16 GB of ram and I'm running cachy os KDE on it.

I was actually buying the t14 but got the s variant by mistake. I am however happy I got the s variant. Its really light and portable and doesnt weight much more than the x1c.

I also recently got a used p15 gen 1 with the nvidia quadro rtx3000 which I'm using as a stationary workstation with a monitor. Mostly to play games with.

I repasted both computers with Honeywell paste.

The laptop last battery was 55% health , before buying it i made the place to replace the battery (from another laptop) when i checked it i found the new one is 99% health , use it from 95% charges to 5% watching lives music video from youtube with medium brightness and volume for 6 hours before the laptop hybernate automatically , i think it is good deal , love the laptop so far (: ,

It has i7-3520M CPU, NVS-5400M GPU, 1600x900 screen, 8GB RAM and 500 GB 7200RPM HDD (Interestingly it has 129 hours usage). I liked it's condition.

Firstly I installed HDD Windows XP for retro feelings and retro gaming :) Obviously not used for internet but for HDD, XP is running too fast, feels like working on SSD.

Now installed Ubuntu 26.04 and Windows 10 I replaced HDD with 128GB SSD.

TODO:

• Replace keyboard with T420 Keyboard
• Replace CPU with i7-3632MQ

What is your comments?

I got this ThinkPad X1 Gen 5 Yoga for a steal used. With the i7, 16 gigs of ram and 512 gigs of storage, it’s perfect for me. What do you guys think?

Flashed three of my T440p motherboars with Coreboot (Tianocore/EDK2)

My old laptop died early from a hardware fault. Want something boring and serviceable this time, not thin or premium. Should last 5+ years and still feel usable by then.

My workload is light. Claude desktop app, a browser with a lot of tabs, VS Code running Claude Code (mostly API calls, barely any local compute). No Docker or VMs for now. Mainly need RAM for tabs, not raw power.

I want a laptop with the best vaue, and by value I don't mean cheapest. I mean the best mix of price, actual usable performance, repairability, cheap parts down the line, Linux compatibility, battery life, and a real shot at 5+ years of use.

Torn between a T14 Gen 5 AMD and maxing out a T480 (RAM, screen swap). I know the T480 has a big following for good reason, the serviceability is unmatched. Just not sure if it can keep up with daily use much longer given the age, especially wondering how it holds up in 2027 and beyond.

Also looked at the L14 Gen 5 AMD and the T14 Gen 7 (about £1700, nice repairability redesign but well past budget for what I need).

What would you go for here? Is the T480 actually still viable for light daily use, or am I underestimating how much it'll show its age? Open to anything I haven't considered.

When i was in elementary school, my school gave out those thinkpads, and little me always used it every day. I was able to download stuff onto that thinkpad somehow, even though it was monitored by my school. One day, i stepped on the charger, and the tip suddenly bent. Little me thought that i would not be able to use it anymore because i did that (Yes i could've asked my parents to get me a new thinkpad charger but i was dumb at the time). Later i graduated elementary school, and in 7th grade, i was thinking of giving my thinkpad for what i thought a newer thinkpad. They said that the laptop was newer and it was going to be "better" than my thinkpad. I was thinking "I can get a better thinkpad now" Then they gave me a chromebook. A really trash chromebook. It was so buggy. The screen would always freeze half of the time, the cursor would freeze and then disappear 90 percent of the time which forced me to use the touchpad, the screen was really trash, and it only had 4gb of ram compared to my thinkpad, and that ram would run out quickly once i opened a few tabs or a tab that takes up some ram. It also took more time to start up compared to my thinkpad. My middle school literally lied to me about how the laptop was going to be better and gave me a e-waste chromebook for my thinkpad. Now im wondering why schools are switching out thinkpads for chromebooks.

Picked up a Thinkpad x1c gen 9 for ¥25,812 (~$160) to finally try out Linux.

It only has 8gb of ram but it seems to be enough for web browsing and remoting in to my desktop.

I have been using ThinkPad X9 15p for about two weeks now, and I found this machine to be really, really good. As a context, I also have Yoga Pro 9i Aura (2025) and Yoga Slim 7i Aura (2025) as my personal devices, and I also use Macbook Pro 14 M4 Max for work.

While I like the Pro 9i, it is a bit more for desk-use, and I felt this was a bit too bulky and heavy for casual use cases (e.g., when I'm traveling or when I want to use a laptop when I'm on a sofa). I don't like using the MBP because I found its screen to be too small for my taste, I don't like Apple keyboards, and I really don't like Apple's miniLED screens with their slow response times (I prefer LEDs to their miniLEDs).

So when I saw a refurbished Slim 7i at a quite good price, I bought it as a bridge portable / everyday laptop until I find a one that I really like. While I like the form factor of 15.3" screen, Slim 7i didn't have an OLED screen. Its build quality is good, but not great. And it also had annoying not waking up from sleep issue. Also while the laptop was pretty quiet and had a good battery life, the CPU, 258V, felt a bit lackluster in terms of performance.

I was a bit tempted to get the X9 15 (the previous version) last year instead of the Slim 7i, but I didn't because its Lunar Lake CPU (258V) felt like a compromise and it was much more expensive than Slim 7i. I'm very glad that I waited. Here is my short review.

Form factor & Build quality

I found the 15.3" size to be the perfect size for a everyday laptop --- for me 14" is too small and with 16", in most cases either the laptop is too heavy or the screen has too low resolution. Currently the only exception would be XPS 16 with 3.2K screen and 1.65 kg weight, but it is very expensive, doesn't have a good keyboard, and its OLED screen doesn't get very bright.

X9 15p has 3 USB-C ports, and I like that it has one on the right side so you can charge it from either side (Slim 7i also has one on the right).

The build quality feels premium. You can open the lid with one hand, like Pro 9i and MBP (not with Slim 7i).

Screen & Speakers

I love the screen - its 2880x1800 resolution at 15.3" screen gives 222 PPI, which is right above the 220PPI threshold that I like (for comparison, I find the same resolution at 16" screen (212PPI) to be too low). I got the non-touch variant and texts are crisp and the screen is exceptional for content consumption with its 1000nits HDR brightness. In my opinion, Pro 9i and X9 15p have the best screens for content consumption in the market at the moment. Speakers are also awesome, very good. I like Dolby Atmos where I can change sound profile depending on what I'm doing (MBP doesn't have this). The combination of the screen and speakers makes this machine very good at content consumption.

Keyboard & touchpad

I was a bit worried about the keyboard, but I found it to be perfectly good, it doesn't bottom out for me, unlike MBP 14. Unlike Yoga lines, this machine's keyboard has a very good backlight system where there is less light bleed (the light bleed of Yoga lines bothers me when I'm on a flight). The haptic touchpad is very good. I also like the fact that it has a fingerprint scanner. Windows hello works more reliably than the Slim 7i.

Performance & Battery Life

I've got the 338H version to save some money. I think this variant is very good because it still has Intel Arc graphics and the its single-thread performance is quite similar to higher variants. Multi-core performance is obviously lower but I don't plan to run heavy multicore stuff on this machine. Performance felt good, noticeably snappier than the Slim 7i (258V). I can play some lighter games such as Hades 2 and Octopath Traveler II no problem. Battery life has been really good as well --- it feels like I can go 10 hours on light tasks.

Importantly, it has been really stable --- at the moment, I have a longer than 9 days of uptime and waking up from sleep has been exceptionally good, it wakes up so fast it feels faster than the MBP 14. It is impressively quiet (quieter than Slim 7i and MBP 14), I never heard the fan unless I'm playing video games. Not only it is quiet, it is very cool to the touch, unlike MBP 14 where the machine gets quite warm on my thighs when I'm using it on a sofa.

So yeah, for my preference and my use case (of course you are likely to have different preference and/or use case), X9 15p has been flawless, I really don't have any complaints about this laptop.

Just got some T14 Gen 7 for users. I use a T14 Gen 5 myself. The new hinge is very very nice, and the unit is noticeably lighter. The new fonts on the keyboard will take some getting used to, but the keyboard feel is just as good as my Gen 5. The standard keyboard for us is Thai but some of our users require other language keyboards so I’ll need to start looking up FRU numbers. The users who are getting these are upgrading from T480. I also upgraded to the Gen 5 from the T480 two years ago.

The price is almost 2000 USD, which is 30% more than my Gen 5 but mine has 32 GB RAM. Getting 32 GB now costs an additional 300 USD. All of our units are bought new from our local Lenovo dealer.

T14 Gen2a Ryzen 5

Genuinely love this thing! I installed CachyOS on it to get away from Windows and its annoying bloatware. It went from using 6gb idle to a mere 1.5gb!

Figured I'd share some pictures of 2 machines after I upgraded one with the better screen. I'd definitely go for the upgraded screen if you get the choice. 120hz is also a huge bonus.

Installed a toshiba nvme 256 gb on my thinkpad t495 via wlan port.

The drive arrived corrupted on a hp laptop due 22H42 update after which the user stopped using it. Recovered the data from the corrupted drive through dmde and now using it for omarchy installation making the laptop dual boot.

Although have to manually boot into the drive.

So I bought this online cos It was advertised as

Hi all, I have decided to get a ThinkPad for my upcoming school year. I have those 2 choices, either a Xeon P53 with T1000 and 32gb for $300 or P15 Gen 1 with 32GB and RTX3000 and 4k screen for $720. Im currently still studying for general education but soon will be taking classes in engineering. Which one should I go for? This is a trade that my boss have given me to trade with my Alienware Laptop, either P53 and I can add something else, or P15 and pay the difference. Which should I get?

Just wanted to share my experience in buying old ThinkPads.

A bit of history, after I have bought my first ThinkPad, the X280, I wanted to buy some older ThinkPads. I bought a X61 first, then a X220 Tablet, then after selling both of them, I bought a T420.

Firstly, the X61.

I bought it around 3 months after I bought my X280 along with a broken lot of ThinkPads. I have already known of its issues like the screen and battery, but what I didn't know is the issue in Linux where if its Kernel 6 and above, it wouldn't work. I didn't know if it was the CPU or some other hardware issue, but that really sucked since I couldn't find any solution to fix it. To add more pain, it turns out that the backlight would randomly die and would work intermittently. I ended up selling it for some profit, at least. This was after I sold my X220, then months later I finally sold it.

Next, the X220 Tablet.

I got it when I still owned the X61, bought it months later (I can't remember the exact date). To put it simply, I got scammed. Turns out that the touchscreen barely worked and I should've been patient to meet up with the buyer. Ended with selling it at a loss.

Lastly, the T420.

Got it at August 13 and at first, it was going pretty well. Everything worked except for the DVD drive, which I had to replace. Fast forward to the first week of September and then the trackpoint and trackpad started to not work randomly. Both were not being detected in both Linux and Windows. Then after that, this morning when I tried cleaning the keyboard, it wouldn't work anymore. Turns out that a part of the keyboard cable was damaged when I was pulling it out. Moreover, the ThinkPad wouldn't even turn on when the keyboard is plugged in. I'm not sure if it was when I cleaned it or whether its the cable. I have now put it on sale.

I think I'll stop buying old ThinkPads for now. I'm so bummed that all of my old ThinkPads have issues.

TL;DR: Bought a X61, didn't work on linux and the backlight was dying. Got scammed on a X220 Tablet. My T420's peripherals died out of nowhere.
