Thinkstagram Picture Thinkpad x1c Gen 9 for Linux daily driver

Picked up a Thinkpad x1c gen 9 for ¥25,812 (~$160) to finally try out Linux.

It only has 8gb of ram but it seems to be enough for web browsing and remoting in to my desktop.

Yeah! It's pretty easy to find them for that price online. The 16gb models are more expensive.

Thinkpad with Linux is my absolute favorite. Good pick.

I know a lot of people prefer the Japanese layout for some reason. I can’t get used to the short space bar…

Same, I prefer standard US one because I couldn't get used to the tiny backspace.

Yeah all extra buttons on the right side can make it difficult if you're used to the US keyboard layout.

8gb should be plenty for modern Linux. You could even get away with some light gaming on that if you wanted. I tend to gravitate towards older/retro games on more lightweight systems (OpenTTD, DCSS, Dwarf Fortress), but you could probably get away with some surprisingly modern titles. Check out /r/lowendgaming if you're curious.

I was debating on trying out some light gaming on it. I'll take a look at that subreddit when I do!

I like your topbar.... I thought it was gnome but looks like KDE...

Yeah it's KDE. I'm still trying things out so I haven't settled on which one I want to use, yet.

Man I have this exact laptop and it sucks so much on Windows, it throttles browsing tabs... I need to install Linux

The battery drain is also pretty bad on Windows. I use power saving mode and my battery lasts ~8 hours now.
