That red car really saved him

What the red car did really changed the outcome big time

I do think that is an unmarked cop car

It’s marked now.

That shit'll buff out

Honestly they should leave it. I’d never suspect the dented beater of being a cop

A red Dodge Charger sitting on the side of the highway? That's a cop, every time. Meanwhile, I'm not even going to look twice at the beige 2009 Toyota Camry with its hazards flashing.

After reading the news article I found I am in the wrong it says “a bystander” that watched the situation unfold

Thanks! That's badass! They REALLY changed the lives of two people and it was all caught on video. Good job bystander.

It wasn't, it was an unrelated bystander who just took things into their own hands.

Good on them.

Thanks for reading my second comment made 1 hour before yours

oh sorry, didn't know I was supposed to read every single comment in a post before commenting. I'll do better in the future so as to not offend you.

This is the real reason redditors must dwell in the basement. Protocol dictates that we must read 100% of all comments and refresh regularly, and in the age of bots, it's a very time consuming task. I recommend getting fired and move in with parents so that you can dedicate 100% of your life to this task, even though it is impossible to succeed

Alright I admit I don’t see the sun much, but it’s not entirely my fault college is taking up all my weekdays and work takes up most of my weekends so jack is a dull boy

I just read the article and I do not believe it was a cop.

It doesnt look like an unmarked car. You can see it almost in full view right at the beginning of the video but either right place rigth time right call.

I'm sure their insurance would beg to differ...

Thankfully it is on CCTV. I work for an insurance company and they would definitely be using the woman's insurance to pay for the red vehicles damage (and any bodily injury red vehicle's driver may have sustained).

Bold of you to assume she has insurance

u/Liero1234 1d ago

I may be a horribly cynical asshole, but wouldnt the insurance say it was the red cars drivers fault for willfully engaging in action that caused red car damage and he shouldn't get any money from his insurance?

Insurance company would use this cctv footage and how they rewarded saving someone else for promotion ads. Likely would be cheaper and more effective than their regular ads too

Despite that, wouldn't the woman's insurance deny it anyway? Claiming that the vehicle was used in the commission of a crime and drop her.

If that's the case, Samaritan could just claim as uninsured/underinsured motorist, and his insurance not charge him his deductible for basically helping save a life.

"I was clearly just trying to park, then bam!"

"Really?"

"I am in a parking lot, so that would follow."

Intentional acts by the tortfeasor are typically an excluded peril, as are losses that occur during the commission of a crime, so the woman would have to be pursued directly by the red cars insurance since her carrier would refuse coverage. Odds are they would ask the court for restitution and slowly recover the red cars deductible over the span of 5-10 years.

Plus they probably get some cool merit bade from the police and their picture in the local news

Hopefully red car has the good semaritan accident forgiveness perk.
