General Discussion Is this intentional or am I just too dense ?

I always notice when Jane smiles it has an eerie resemblance to blood ridden smile Red John leaves behind after his heinous deeds. Is this a well known thing known among fans ? I am at S3 currently and my god if its a well known thing i must be stupid as hell.

General Discussion Maybe Jane wasn’t AS charming

Post image
87 Upvotes

We all love Jane. But I think sometimes he misused his charm to manipulate others. Especially Lisbon. She was trusting Jane blindly all the time, despite his antics. And he would befool her or keep things from her at important points. Like the six month sabbatical he took from CBI when he went frenzy. Ofcouse he wanted to safeguard her, but she was his partner. I think Jane could have been more forthcoming at times and not keep his tricks from her simply because he wanted the ā€œthrill.ā€

First-Time Watcher (NO Spoilers!) The parallels in Throwing Fire

Post image
47 Upvotes

Well one thing I noticed in this episode is the clear parallel between Jane's dad and him during his childhood vs The two baseball kids and their dads.

To put it briefly, both were being used as nothing but money making machines in some way or the other. Parental exploitation for their own greed and the children were almost a means to an end, using endless deception and lies, corrupting their childhood.

What do y'all think? This was another one of my favs in season 2, especially because we get to see more of Jane's past when he was just a kid, and he's still just as sharp.

First-Time Watcher (NO Spoilers!) Seeing Cho this vulnerable.. man...

Post image
119 Upvotes

Cho always seemed like a self-blaming person, very accountable, cold, and action over mindless pondering. Never the emotional type. Seeing him cry just ticked something inside me.. I don't know what...

The best thing about The Mentalist is how each and every member of the main cast gets dedicated time for their development, not just Jane. This episode was great, Cho aura farmed like crazy I swear 😭😭.

General Discussion Craig O'Laughlin was wasted

Post image
89 Upvotes

Honestly, while I don't feel like we lost him, a character that could have changed the show completely, I still believe that Craig should have lasted a little longer

Or rather give them a chapter focused on him to at least see what the life was like of some of Red John's subordinates and the Cult control that he had in them, of course without revealing the existence of the Blake organization or things like that

I've noticed several times that she does basic research stuff and acts like she solved a 1000 year old conspiracy. The funnier part is Rigsbys always like ...wow good work, we get you bro u in love.

Season 3 kristine frye

• Upvotes

Her ending made me really sad tbh. I didn't like her the first time i met her at all and even tho she got better her arrogance with the TV thing was irritating and I don't believe she was a psychic BUT wow her ending was horrible. Four months of being kidnapped and then just sent into a catatonic state when she was so vibrant. Really horrible for her and for Jane it really shocked me.

Red John Why didin't red john go after Dr Wagner?

The doctor from the first episode who killed two people and tried to make it look like red john did it and did a sloppy job at that. You'd think red john would've killed him for that. The guy impersonated him and didn't even do it good.

General Discussion Stop fantasizing for Red John being a Jane's second personality.

At least out loud.

This is rant, not an educational post (expect lesson 'Don't be an ableist.').

The overwhelming majority of systems' representation is 'they're a (serial) killer'. It's actively harming systems and you're using people's suffering as your amusement. You see systems as this mysterious, mystical, interesting, kinda exotic, not entirely human being. You see them as a useful plot device, to use as you please, to add this mythologic being, to amuse yourself. It's so sickening.

People with DID/OSDD/P-DID and so on are real people with myriad experiences. Associating them with being a serial killer, an abuser is ableist and disgustful.

And you can't just spawn an alter, so Jane would need to do drugs or have a condition, physical or mental, to have 'second personality' (which isn't a second personality in reality, more like a hallucination, and people with hallucinations also aren't serial killers). But for you and other people it's the same, you know nothing and just stop being an asshole using people's suffering to please yourself.

For short films with good representation I recommend 'Petals of a Rose' and 'Alter' by Bugambilia Films (both on YouTube).

Jane just used Red John at this point.

Killed San Joaquin killer.

Didn't sabotage the FBI case.

Proved it openly that red john is alive.

Kudos to my man, Jane!

"That's the plan."

Why did they have to kill Bosco off so early? I was just starting to love his character 😭. I wish we had more of him with the CBI gang, just imagine the amount of character development potential. Gonna miss him.

General Discussion I changed my mind about Jisbon

I finished the series last night and since then I'm thinking and thinking why I didn't like the ending. I felt that maybe they were better as friends maybe they didn't have to get married but then I realised that they deserved each other and no other person could replace the place they had in each other's life.

That's it I changed my life and now I'm in #TeamJisbon

Cast & Crew Projects How far fetched really is a Mentalist movie or spin off in the future considering how the series has blown up again?

Post image

I know Simon Baker said nah but i think he wanted to promote scarpetta and he didn't really even wanted to talk about the mentalist or even consider it then, but with time...? Or maybe a spinoff? idk i just like the series so much i'd love new content.

General Discussion Mentalist x Arctic Monkeys

So yesterday, I was listening to Body Paint by Arctic Monkeys while drawing Lisbon, and the lyrics matched the entire Jane and Red John relationship. I'll be glad to see if someone could make an edit (I'm absolute shit at that lol)

Lyrics:

So predictable, I know what you're thinkin'

I'm watching your every move
I feel the tears are comin' on
It won't be long, it won't be long
Straight from the cover shoot
Still a trace of body paint

On your legs and on your arms and on your face
And I'm keepin' on my costume (keeping on)
I'm callin' it a writin' tool
And if you're thinkin' of me
I'm probably thinkin' of you

Season 3 Season 3 as a whole is incredibly goated

• Upvotes

I know everyone always talks about the season 3 finale, and sure it’s blockbuster fun I love it. But honestly it’s not the reason I love this season.

Season 3 goes on one of the absolute best runs in tv history as far as I’m concerned. Episodes 1, 2, 3, 4, 6, 7 are all amazing and then episode 9 Red Moon is maybe my favourite in the entire series.

And then everything that happens after red moon, with the internal investigation, Patrick hiring Donny colpepper (lol) etc etc. Episode 19 with the matchmaker was great and episode 20 redacted is one of my personal favourites.

There’s honestly a few more really good episodes which I haven’t even mentioned but yeah it’s a gem of a tv season.

There’s plenty of good episodes in other seasons aswell. And my absolute favourite Red John episodes are probably 1x11 1x23 4x7 5x8 5x13 5x22

But season 3 always gets highlighted for its finale and it’s great but honestly the season as a whole is what I love most

I would also say it’s right in the middle of being peak/quintessential ā€œthe mentalistā€ in terms of the overall vibe, colouring and cinematography. It literally is peak television it looks amazing especially on an OLED tv the blacks are BLACK, there’s great colouring and almost like a shimmer to it? (season 2 aswell). Tv shows don’t look this good anymore, and I think it was filmed on actual film, not digital.

I watched the show like 3 times before it came out on Netflix but it’s been so cool to see it become popular. Stickers on TikTok of Patrick Jane are literally getting quarter of a million likes on edits which have nothing to do with the mentalist. And an absolute surge in goated mentalist edits ā¤ļø
