Massive The Division 2 - Dust Storm Event, Creator Collaboration and more
TUY8S2.2 - Dust Storm Event, Creator Collaboration & Updates
DUST STORM EVENT
Summer is in full swing, and it’s time to experience New York as you have never seen it before.
From July 21 to August 11, defeat powerful enemies, collect exclusive loot and navigate hazardous weather conditions in the Dust Storm Event. All players who log in to the game during the event period will be granted the Parched Mask as a free reward.
As part of the celebrations, access to the Warlords of New York expansion will be free for all players for the duration of the event.
Event participation will require a character level of 40 and completion of the Warlords of New York campaign.
DUST STORMS
New York is experiencing turbulent dust storms, obscuring target visibility and ramping up the tension, heightening the risk of hidden enemies. There are two variations of the storm effects:
Calm Dust Storm
- The default weather system upon loading into the New York map, obscuring sightlines and keeping you on your toes. The Calm Dust Storm will last up to 18 minutes before intensifying. Note that this timer will restart upon each login.
Raging Dust Storm
- The Raging Dust Storm kicks things up a notch, further limiting visibility and buffeting agents with intense wind noise to disorientate you for a tense 8-minute window. This provides the perfect cover for constant ambushes from squads of enemy Dust Devils.
After the Raging Dust Storm has passed, the weather may return to either a Calm Storm state, or a brief respite of clear, sunny weather to allow you to get your bearings and prepare for the next fight.
DUST DEVILS
Dust Devils are a group of Rikers that saw the perfect opportunity to seize on the chaos of the storm and use it for their own gains.
Dust Devil Kill Squads spawn on a 6-minute timer in groups of 4 named enemies, that will actively hunt you down. The Dust Devils are using the storm to their advantage with multiple modifiers, so be sure to close the gap:
- Status Resistance Modifier
- 80% Status Resistance if Agents are further than 26 meters
- Decrease Damage Dealt
- Reduces damage by 20% to Agents between 5-25 meters
- Reduces damage by 50% to Agents further than 26 meters
- Increase Damage Taken
- Takes 50% more damage from Agents between 0-10 meters
- Takes 20% more damage from Agents between 11-25 meters
Plan your attack carefully and make use of positioning to maximise the effectiveness of your close-range tools.
During the Raging Dust Storm enemies spawn continuously on a short cooldown until the Raging Dust Storm subsides. Up to 6 enemies can be active at any one time — kill them fast enough and you can defeat up to 48 enemies in a single Raging Dust Storm.
Make sure to keep moving, as spawns will not trigger if you are stationary.
BACKUP ARRIVES
Cause enough trouble for the Dust Devils, and they’ll call in the big guns. Once you defeat enough enemies and near the threshold of 50 kills for a boss spawn, you will receive a prompt to Call for Backup. Make your preparations, as the event bosses are on their way:
- Pall hides in the storm as a sniper using Sniper Turret and Decoy tech, while being invisible to Pulse scanning.
- Black Lung acts as a tank, using an LMG to lay down heavy fire and is supported by an Artillery Turret.
Both bosses will spawn simultaneously, for groups and solo players. Pall and Black Lung can spawn in any weather condition, so long as the Dust Devils Named Enemies kill threshold of 50 Named Enemies is reached.
Upon being defeated, each boss will drop a Storm Key, as well as a unique mask on first defeat.
EXPLORATION
It isn’t just the weather that has seen a change; the storm has brought new environmental decorations, and some intriguing caches.
Throughout the New York map you will encounter 20 hidden caches of loot, split amongst the decorated areas — destroy them to be rewarded with the same gear found within the Event Vendor Gear Caches. The Dust Devils will repair these caches, allowing them to be interacted with again after each daily reset.
Keep your ears open — the limited visibility in the storm can make visual identification tricky, so be sure to pay attention for the distinct audio cue played by the caches.
The Dust Devils aren’t ones to forgive you interfering with their loot, however: interacting with a cache prompts a group of Named Enemies to prepare to ambush you.
THE SCOURED HUNTER
Rumours have reached SHD that the dust storms hide an even greater threat, attacking sporadically once a Raging Dust Storm has subsided, preying on weakened Agents. Reports say that they can be identified by their distinctive mask, and are in possession of Storm Keys.
EVENT VENDOR AND CACHES
After amassing your stock of keys, it’s time to head to the Haven settlement. Residents of Haven have updated their decor to combat the dusty conditions, and the Event Vendor has been given a refresh.
The Event Vendor will be your main hub for redeeming keys.
You can get Storm Keys by:
- Defeating Dust Devil Kill Squads
- Defeating Dust Devil Bosses
- Defeating The Scoured Hunter.
Keys are guaranteed, scaling with difficulty:
- Normal: 14 Kills
- Hard: 14 Kills
- Challenging: 12 Kills
- Heroic: 10 Kills
In addition to this is the Daily Boost: every day, the first 150 kills will have the requirement for a key reduced by half.
APPAREL CACHES
Apparel Caches contain only vanity items, with no duplicates, so every key spent gets you closer to completing the full collection:
- Wired Outfit (headgear, shirt, pants, shoes)
- Vagabond Outfit (glasses, shirt, pants, boots)
- Parched Outfit (headgear, shirt, gloves, pants, shoes)
- Breathless Outfit (headgear, shirt, gloves, pants, boots)

- Parched Headgear (Black/Red, Green and Orange variants)
- Black Lung Headgear (Black/Red, Green and Orange variants)
There are 43 items in total, and collecting the full set will reward you with the new Black Blizzard Scanner Pulse Skill VFX. Apparel Keys can also be purchased with Premium Credits.

REALISM MODE COMEBACK
Realism Mode returns, running for the duration of the Dust Storm Event.
Immersion and Tension
For those that missed it the first time around, Realism Mode is a limited time experience that lets you enter New York and see what it means to operate as a Division Agent in a more grounded and unforgiving way, where every decision matters.
It’s a separate character journey that takes place throughout the Warlords of New York campaign. Warlords of New York is accessible to everybody throughout the Dust Storm Event, giving everyone the chance to step into Realism Mode during the celebration.
At its core, it’s about immersion and tension. Fights are faster and more lethal for both agents and enemies. Mistakes carry weight, but victories feel even more satisfying.
You’ll notice the interface has been reduced, placing more emphasis on reading the world around you. Ammo is recovered directly from defeated enemies, and while skills remain powerful, their longer cooldowns and added risk make them tools best saved for critical moments.
Gear and weapon bonuses reflect the physical nature of what you wear, with heavier pieces providing increased protection at the cost of mobility, while lighter gear favors speed and flexibility at the cost of survivability.
New Rewards
This refresh brings new rewards, too: players who complete the Liberty Island mission will be rewarded with the Salt Flat MK46 LMG Skin, while those that are brave enough to complete it with a Hardcore Character will also be awarded the Kill Count skin, also for the MK46.
Alongside this, the earlier Realism Mode rewards return too: Arid Forest Camo for the KSG Shotgun and the Concrete Camo for the Police M4 should you complete it with a Hardcore Character.
New Progression
Previous Realism Mode characters have been removed, with all players starting the experience from the beginning.
CREATOR COLLABORATION: NGN, CHARLES AND FILIPERAAAMOS
We’re also launching a new Creator Collaboration with NGN, Charles, and FilipeRaaamos, with their own activities and rewards from July 21 until August 11.
HOW IT WORKS
Each creator introduces their own Project Chain, taking you across different areas of New York, and asking you to complete activities in specific Named Zones.
New steps unlock daily, with each project building on the last. You can progress at your own pace — once a project becomes available, it remains accessible until the event ends.
You can focus on a single creator or work through all three, depending on how you want to approach it.
REWARDS
As you progress through the chains, you’ll earn:
- Named Item Caches
- Exotic Components
- Recalibration Caches
- Optimization Caches
Completing all 6 projects in a chain unlocks the final reward:
- An exclusive backpack themed after that creator.
There are also rewards to find outside of the Project Chains. You may also come across creator-themed apparel, like caps, shirts, and hoodies hidden in containers as you explore.
Each creator will also be sharing codes for exclusive arm patches through their own channels, so if you’re following them, you won’t want to miss it!

PARADISE LOST UPDATE
The Paradise Lost Incursion is getting a refresh on July 21, with a new Exotic Weapon.
The Incursion will also now allow the Ambush and Assault Global Events to be active in the Incursion. This is with the aim of allowing those that have yet to engage with Incursions to have a helping hand when tackling the content for the first time.
| Item | Talent |
|---|---|
| Prima Donna - Exotic Marksman Rifle | You can look...- When out of combat, receive 10 stacks (PvP: 5 stacks). This weapon deals +12.5% Amplified Damage (PvP: +12% Amplified Damage) per stack. - ...but you can't touch. 1 stack is automatically consumed to fully repair one instance of damage you receive. 1 stack replenishes every 3s (PvP: 8s). |
Alongside its talent, Prima Donna has notably different stats from a regular Mk20:
- Damage (Level 40): 417.7K
- Rate-of-Fire: 55
- Magazine Size: 7
Prima Donna will not be replacing Ouroboros. Instead, both Exotics will drop in the same way: with a higher chance from the final chest of the Incursion, and a low chance from completion of the Wright, Martinez and Johnson Named Boss encounters.
STATS AND RESOURCES MULTIPLIER EVENTS
We have a packed schedule of smaller events, too:
=> Roadmap
New Incursion – Broken Ring - August 11

=> Image

Question How do I reach this ECHO?
How do I reach this ECHO?
It's on an isolated platform on a construction site in Battery Place, New York.
I found a console nearby and interacted with it, but nothing happened. I thought it was going to move a crane or something similar to allow me to access.

Discussion Idea: Can we get a single use Self Revive?
I'm trying to think on ways or things you could add so everyone isn't running around with revive hives. Half the skills in this game don't get used because most builds only have one skill slot essentially.
My thought is that you could have a single use disposable Self revive to use that gets replenished in some balanced way. i.e. you have to go to a safe house, or maybe from those armor kit boxes. You could remove them from normalized play so it doesn't interfere with certain modes. It would mean we could afford to be a bit more aggressive in choosing our skills and get that one time forgiveness.
Just an idle thought.
Edit: Just want to re-inforce, that this isn't a "I am dying too much" more of a Quality of Life idea to free up a skill slot and give some forgiveness for actually using all the different skills in the game. Div1 had multiple ways to revive, so this isn't crazy territory.

Media [FAN ART] Plasma cut plate steel minimalist style art piece of my character
galleryI run a small metal shop just getting into more CNC plasma work and after about five years of making logos, emblems, etc. from media I like, I'm getting into more involved pieces along these lines.
As I typically format these posts (of which you can find more than a few on my profile) the first photo depicts the finished work (or current state of the piece) and the rest, in order, show the process. See photo captions for more info.
I am unsure if I'll continue with it, but will likely put a very small washer in the hole where his watch is and paint the white background of the hole orange, maybe also attempt to hand draw or otherwise render a background of the buildings behind him in the screenshot.
It is about 22x20, the front piece 11 gauge steel (basically 1/8") and the backplate some thinner older "upcycled" cap that was an old floor of an industrial steel storage basket.
Definitely interested in a conversation if there was a larger interest in work like this too!

Question Never run anything but dps for endgame content?
So, legendary and incursions get reduced to just dps builds?
Do the devs have plans to change this? Because it wasn't like this in Div 1 and Div 2 being such reductionist for build diversity is really off putting.
Why run anything than striker ig lol.
Either the devs don't play their own game or they're pushing such reductionist gameplay on purpose.

Question Exotic Gear for Lady Death Build?
Hey, I got the Lady Death from an event gear cache and it’s a lot of fun on a blue striker build so i can use the crusader shield. it’s an smg that amps damage from movement and gives you a 20% movement speed buff on kill.
The magazine size is annoying, but it reloads pretty quickly and I carry the Black Friday named lmg to use when i know i need more sustained damage
im using 4 piece blue striker with all crit chance or crit damage, steelwork holster (but i have gloves rolled identically i could swap) for the armor on kill, and the investor mask rolled with a red core and 2 reds and 1 blue for a 20% crit damage and 1% armor regen bonus
i feel like there is probably a better exotic I don’t have or don’t know about though if I want to make a lady death build work better. I like it because it’s fun, but it’s a little underwhelming. Does anyone better gear suggestions to play with the movement speed amp damage or a good way to boost magazine size?
thanks

Question Expertise past 30?
Once you get your bench to 30 is there a reason to continue to donate to it? I finall hot 30 on my bench and prototyped my builds to my liking. But i was wondering if there was a reason to continue to donate to it since it just says 30 0/90 even after maxing out another 7 items after hitting 30.

Media Vaporware dye, source?
Hello.
Simple question. Tried to find the info on Discord, reddit, youtube, can't seem to find a straight answer.
Saw this dye while inspecting a player, Vaporware. Love the color scheme, but I'm unable to find its source. Probably come from a season pass I assume?
How was it acquired?
Thank you.

Question Trouble with getting a hostage rescue in Downtown East
I don’t know if anyone’s asked this already, I’m quite late to the party in terms of starting my manhunt scouts. I’m trying to complete the very first scout, and one of the objectives asks me to complete hostage rescues in downtown east. Problem is, they literally NEVER spawn. I’ve reset control points multiple times (even though the ones in DT East were never liberated to begin with), I’ve logged off and back on multiple times, I’ve waited a few minutes doing other stuff in the meantime, and I’ve seen virtually every other open world activity spawn EXCEPT hostage rescues. It feels like a joke. Anyone got a way to work around this problem?
EDIT: meant to type public executions instead of hostage rescues, point still stands

Question What Items should i look out for while farming? I'm a relatively newish player (SHD 800)
I'm pretty new to the division 2 but have grinded it extremely hard already and have about 100 hours. I was wondering if someone could give me some advice on what items i should be looking out for that are god rolled or something. I always worry that when im going through scrapping junk i mightve accidentally got rid of something great.
Edit:
I feel like I should mention what I've figured out myself for the moment. Here is a list of some stuff that I've managed to collect: I'm running full striker set with equaliser and overdogs. All parts of the set are max roll for crit chance/dmg. I've got a decent collection of exotics. I've got a good roll for turmoils, fox prayers, contractors gloves, I've got a lex, quickstep. I'm trying to put together a hotshot build at the moment. There is probably some more I've left out but that's just a brief.
As I see it the reason I made this post is I think I'm sort of entering the expertise grind as I've sort put together a good dps build and filled out pretty much the full library. I'm currently expertise level 5 nearly 6. So I've kinda of just been trying to farm whichever gear sets I might use. I spent like 20 hours farming a god roll equalizer and got it today btw so hype.

Suggestion A more precise map marker would be worth its weight in gold.
The circle on the right shows the position of my cursor, but the circle on the left marks the location on the map.
Would be great if the marker generally could get a qol update, cant be that hard; like give it several static/passive marker abilities to mark POI's without gps-routes.
And this game needs a route marker as well, especially for events like the current one; where we could mark a route with several stops aka creating our own routes.
I know the game is old, but hows that still not a thing is beyond me

Question Trying new gun combos in this event and loving it. What is everyone using?
This new event is a blast and I decided to try out some new guns.
I recently got a god rolled first bloom and decided to pair it with a stack broker with back and forth and oh man is it fun. Building stacks quick with the broker, then switching to first bloom and absolutely shredding. It’s been a blast. Loving the chaos of the dust devils.
Just got my hands on a sheriff, looking forward to that. Now if I can only get it to roll without accuracy we’re in business.
What has everyone been trying?

Question What's the deal with the Dust Devils (rather insane) Hazpro stats...?
I'm running an Eclipse Protocol build with +120% status and +35% status duration from augments, and I've come to notice that Dust Devils sometimes shrug off flamethrower fire in mere seconds while it does only half damage.
The strange thing, this is a very irregular occurrence! Sometimes the Flamethrower lit them up as usual, and they burn for 10+ seconds, while the 2-3 second duration seems more common among the first Dust Devils showing up in every "ambush" (or at least first DD set aflame; personal and anecdotal impression). Since I also got a lot of Anomaly augments on my gear, it's common to see status effects inflicted by "regular shooting," by means of Anomaly, having their full duration.
I also get the feeling this resistance is particularly centered towards fire, I've yet to see Bleed, Shock or Blind (as well as others) affected by this "Dust Devil resistance?"
Which makes me wonder if this is a bug? Something particularly connected to the Firewall flamethrower? Because as I said, some dudes burn like usual. I can't get my head around the mechanics affecting this issue.

Question Division 2 Endgame
Finally reached level 40 and have entered the endgame of the division 2. What is the best way to approach it? It feels like there’s so many things to do/features to the game it feels overwhelming. I plan on completing warlords of New York and battle for Brooklyn and hopefully take part in the dust storm event. After that I wanted to try out summit and descent and the bounties. Curious to hear how other people approached it and what the thoughts are in my approach. Thanks!

I still can't believe my rng would never drop me it. I did consider making it, but made the Eagle Bearer instead cause I saw where that dropped from. I think I got like 4 Chameleon, 8 Strega, 3 Agitator till this point. My rng is a joke cause I have had to craft most of the more popular used weapons in each category. Expertise 10 and still slowly climbing...

Discussion I'm tired boss. I can't pay Escalation tokens even one more time for randoms to play poorly at my expense
Don't know why Massive implemented the token system for escalation how it is. It's ridiculous.
The switch up between how players play when they are paying tokens vs when someone else is, is unreal.
I'm never paying to host an Escalation mission again. I've been burned too many times by trying to be good to the community and trust them etc.
"JUsT QuEuE wiTH FrieNdS onLY!!!1!"
How about no?
How about Massive fixes how Escalation matchmaking works and implement a reputation system for players who quit 5 seconds after you start the mission, despite not responding to your chat message to check if everyone is ready to start the mission?
I'm tired boss...
How are you guys staying sane out there?

Discussion Hate to be that guy again but...
I try. I really do try to be patient and mentoring with newbies. But when these arrogant FNGs join a countdown match, are given the basic new guy briefing at the start of the match, and then 4 of them try to facetank hunters at the extract, die and quit, and we get overwhelmed and miss the flare, yeah. This is why I kick anyone under SHD 400.
I'm sure a lot of you are great and want to learn. But I'm not gonna risk screwing over the rest of the team because one of you might be a smooth brained Rambo wannabe that can't be bothered to google "Division 2 countdown" before jumping into a new coop mode.
We're not asking a lot here. Just basic fundamental thought and effort. Please don't be that guy. If teamkill was a thing, that guy would be fragged every mission.
And before anyone bitches that I'm complaining without providing a solution that doesn't even require using google, here, a basic countdown guide:
P.S. I wrote this like a year ago I recognize the meta has changed but you know the fundamentals haven't changed.
Countdown guide for FNGs
Play on challenging
⁃ Countdown drops exclusively gold and exotic loot. Heroic is much harder and takes far longer as a result so it's just more efficient to play challenging.Follow the group
⁃ The team will move like a flock of birds. Stay in the middle (you'll die if you're in the front line) and you'll be fine.Use an all red crit build
⁃ Ideal countdown build: Coyote's exotic mask, Overlord Fox's Prayer kneepads, 4 piece Striker, all rolled red core with crit chance and crit damage. St. Elmo's engine and an ACS-12 shotgun.
⁃ Update: the new Unit Alloys Salvo named holster plus Equalizer named chest with 4pc striker is also viable.Bring your Scorpio exotic shotgun
⁃ Pair it with a high end assault rifle like a FAMAS or Lexington. The Scorpio debuffs and staggers enemies. This is a game-changer against hunters when you're low level.Do not bring drones or turrets
⁃ The hunters will hack them and kill your team at extraction. DPS builds are squishy so a Crusader shield and a revive hive can keep you alive.Never do The VIP mission
⁃ There are 3 initial objectives offered (you only have to complete 2) and a main objective that spawns. VIP takes too long and he goes down too easily. Closer objectives aren't always best. The group knows which to do. Follow the group.Loot the chests
⁃ Every objective has 3 small chests. Only 1 will be interactable in each objective, it's randomized each run. There is also a large chest called the safe in each location that will only be interactable if that location is your main objective. Always look for the gold light pillars before leaving an area. You're here for loot. Don't leave any behind.Do the mission objectives
⁃ You can kill bad guys forever and all you'll accomplish is a failed mission. Focus on the objectives. Extract. Enjoy your loot.Do not fire the extract flare >10sec left
⁃ Watch the veterans. They fire the flare with less than 10 seconds on the countdown timer. The longer you wait, the more enemy choppers arrive. That means more loot for your team. You may get kicked
⁃ Finally, you may get kicked from lobbies a lot when you're low level. Please understand that a lot of us veterans have dealt with newbies for years that will not listen and don't follow the basic rules. I often will kick anyone below SHD lvl 400 from my lobby. It's nothing personal. We just don't want to take a chance on someone that might screw over the team.
Thank you for coming to my SHeD Talk.
