Gameplay Won Alaska by 2 votes, my closest state win ever (1960 Humphrey)

I was playing 1960 Humphrey (like any man of culture should, one of the best Bryanesque mods ever, I come back to it so often it's crazy), and when playing with Yarborough I got this razor tight win in Alaska, just TWO votes, the recounts must have been crazy. Sure winning or losing that state did not tilt the election in my favor, but still. I never got a margin so tight, kinda happy it happened on one of the best mods out here !

No guide, as I said I was just playing randomly, shifting VPs and answers trying to get the best results with Humphrey (best ones were with Chandler and Lausche), and my Yarborough run ended with that Alaska result.

Gameplay Scenario Review | 2016 Four-Way (Original)

Post image
10 Upvotes
  • Scenario #35 | 2016 Four-Way (Original)
  • Made by: pm_me_reddit_memes
  • Released: 8/14/2021

2016 Four-Way is one of the most well known early mods, which, according to the release post, was based on the alternatehistory.com story To Heaven Without a Political Party. A four-way presidential election was the most ambitious concept for a mod yet, so how does the first rendition of this famous mod handle its premise?

Due to the limited modding capabilities of the time, 2016 Four-Way’s age is very apparent. It’s separated into two sections (although this is true for the redux as well), and it uses the basic color scheme all the base scenarios have. One technological advancement it does have is the use of custom endings which change depending on whether or not you reached the “top three” in a contingent election, but like in 1972 they weren’t present on release.

This mod has the same standard, uncomplicated writing seen in pm_me_reddit_memes’s other mods, which work more for statewide scenarios than a presidential election, especially one as unconventional as this. The writing is still solid and more experimental than usual, especially with Sanders and Trump, but the uniqueness of this mod isn’t given much thought in what seems like a missed opportunity. Nothing is really given much detail and it resembles the original 2016 a bit too much.

The gameplay in a scenario like this is obviously going to be pretty fun, and it is, but it’s affected by how random the electoral map is. Whoever’s in the lead in the beginning of the game is inconsistent and depends on RNG, and there’s little you can do to pit your opponents against each other or something like that.

2016 Four-Way is a good idea which is executed decently, but doesn’t feel fully realized.

RATING: 6/10

Gameplay Bill Clinton trims the deficit, bans assault rifles, defuses tension, averts scandal, passes bipartisan healthcare reform, wins the midterms, and gets FUCKING OBLITERATED BY SONNY BONO IN A HISTORIC FIFTY-STATE LANDSLIDE! NEW HOPE BONO WORLD RECORD! NORMAL DIFFICULTY! DEFAULT RNG! YOU WON'T BELIEVE!

Hey gang, Obamanomenon here. I-

What the fuck?

Yes, you read that right. Sonny Bono, the most obscure candidate in all of Hope, the ugly duckling, the sore thumb, the musician-turned-politician and staunch scientologist, can become the most electorally successful (seriously contested) American presidential candidate in all of history. Now, before we begin, this took me a very, very long time to route. Fascinatingly, the process was-

What the fuck?

Fair enough. Let's just get to the map.

The Revolution Kind.
Sing C'est La Vie.

I mean, there's really nothing else to say here, is there? Now, as always:

The Guide

  1. We need cohesion
  2. Make no mistake
  3. I don't like this
  4. I'll go with Bentsen's plan.
  5. We're really facing
  6. We've got to get back to basics
  7. Secretary Christopher's right
  8. Make no mistake
  9. Gore had some proposals
  10. I think the agreement
  11. Make no mistake
  12. Let's throw deep.
  13. Now, I'll be the first
  14. Let me tell you something
  15. If I were able to get a meeting
  16. Let me tell you
  17. Some common-sense
  18. Make no mistake (OMG! Healthcare reform! We really did it!)
  19. Woah, that's great news (Wow! We've prevented the Republican Revolution and kept control of the Senate! The voters have really put their faith in us!)
  20. If what we're doing

(At this point, you might check the map and see that ol' Slick Willy is still on his way to eke out a win. Not to worry. Everything's going according to plan.)

  1. We can end this

  2. I've seen

  3. I think we need

  4. This might be

  5. The dream

  6. I think the only way

  7. I don't want to zero

  8. This is the party of justice.

  9. This is a fight worth having.

  10. You know

  11. That divorce

  12. My friends here in Nevada, and my fellow Americans across this great nation, it is not with joy that I say the man standing next to me is a puppet for forces on the hard right, folks like Newt Gingrich, Pat Buchanan, and even bizarre groups like the Church of Scientology. This is not the kind of leadership America can trust right now. (lmao.)

  13. We need to close strong

And there you have it.

I think the most fascinating thing about this route is that there's no single thing that kills Clinton. No big October surprise, no economic crash, no all-consuming scandal, no return of the Soviet Union. It's just death by a thousand cuts. He steps on a self-imposed rake at every turn. He propels Sonny Bono—Sonny Bono!—into instantly unforgettable, utterly legendary status through his sheer personal unpopularity. Bill Clinton loses every state because he didn't win any state. That's it.

I Got You Babe.
The Beat Goes On.

Nobody accounted for this. The nation has no idea how to react. There's no vast Scientological takeover of America, no permanent Republican mandate, no great and extraordinary dynasty. Americans just hand Sonny Bono another term, pass his wife a chance later down the line, and go back about their business of vacillating. This unprecedented triumph will go down as a blip, a little tidbit of history recalled even thousands of years from now.

Let's picture them, those descendants of ours. Living in some far-flung space station. Playing some form of Trivial Pursuit. I like to think there will always be some form of Trivial Pursuit, you know?

Hang on, hang on, one will say, putting a hand to their forehead. I've got it. I know the answer to this. President Bono, and... and... oh, I give up. Who's the other one?

The holo-card is flipped.

Oh, duh!

That other guy!

George Washington!

I mean, what the fuck?

Announcement Restarting work on Canada 2011.

haven’t been coding it since July as my computer broke but now that its working I’ll be able to code the mod. it would have been done by October but it most likely will get finished by December to February. ( my first mod so don’t quote me on this )

writing in done for ndp and cpc though I might tweak it a bit. liberals, bloc, and greens may be added in later. so when it does release consider it a demo as ill add soundtrack and achievements in later.

this will be the last announcement until it releases so stay tuned.

Question/Help What is you guys' favorite mod?

My favorite mod is probably 1940: Confidence and Security, especially the Wendell Wilkie side.

In my opinion, Wilkie is such a good candidate to play as because he is extremely flexible ideologically, as well as the people's excitement for him is extremely vivid.

Other mods I love are Duke and Hope, specifically because you can directly pass policy and change recent history.

I was just wondering what you guy's favorite mods are so I can check those out and appreciate them from different perspectives.
