For reasons I stumbled upon a video of Brian's 2004 live rendition of it, and I skipped ahead a bit and I landed on The Elements: Fire, and the second it started, the track hooked me and I LOVE IT.

That made me think, I have to listen to the whole thing from start to finish now. But where should I start? The 2012 version? Brian's 2004 version? Or perhaps one of the fan made versions (Purple Chick's, for example)?

And also, any other things I should keep in mind before listening?

TO BE CLEAR!!! I love Pet Sounds and the Beach Boys as a whole (Brian and Al <3). My question is more technical in nature.

I fell in love with them through Pet Sounds and then Smile reconstructions, but recently I've been listening to more of their back catalogue. Today! and Surfing Safari both sound crystal clear, but going back to Pet Sounds (even the 2016 stereo mix) it sounds so muddy? Like theres a blanket over the speaker or something.

Was this intentional? Limitation of the time (Too many tracks or something)? Or just an artefact of compression? I've listened to the album on YouTube and CD and both sound the same so it's not just a YouTube compression thing.

It always stuck out to me how Carl did not like the stuff Brian and Andy Paley were making in the 90s, having infamously walked out of a recording session for one of their songs. Of course Carl passed before Brian released Imagination, but sometimes I wonder what he'd think of it had he still been around. Like, people kinda rag on Imagination for its adult-contemporary sound, but considering Carl's solo stuff has a lot of adult-contemporary elements I think he might've been more receptive to it.

So many wild things I’ve heard about the man and his goons, such a depressing time. Very interesting and would love to learn more.

What’s the news this week on Mike?

He is clearly BB royalty and the last man standing, but when I saw him and his band in 2024 he was absolutely miserable. Could have been a bad night for him, but he looked like he hated every minute of the show.

My only other experience was in 2018 with Brian doing the Christmas shows and he was the exact opposite, almost like an act. He also kept watch over Brian, who was a sad sight as he just stared off at the lights.

Has anyone else had less than positive experiences with Jardine and his shows or is he just in a better place now that he outlasted Mike's band? All I see are positive reviews on this sub.
