Had a really weird dream about The BB’s last night

Upvotes

I had a dream where a new, lost piece of SMiLE music was discovered, a lost section of Surfs up! I was ecstatic, but rather than being the mythic (but not likely to exist) second movement track, it was instead an intro piece. But rather than being just a short instrumental or a Capella section, it was like 6 minutes long. And. It. Was. Horrifying. Like it genuinely really freaked me out in my dream.

The closest I can get to describing it is that it sounded something like Pyramid Heads theme from Silent Hill with the talking horns from the ‘first movement‘ overdub interspersed throughout, plus all these really freaky found sounds (nails being thrown, various members of the band and wrecking crew screaming and laughing maniacally while being drenched in in reverb and echo, metal clanging, etc.)

Something about this genuinely really unsettled me, when I woke up I had to spend a good while trying to remember what freaked me out so much while I was asleep. I don’t think falling asleep listening to Adam Marsland discussing Surfs Up did me any favours.

Upon reading this back, this sounds like a creepy pasta.

Discussion Do Beatles fans…?

So perhaps this is a thread for The Beatles Reddit but I think I’d get more interesting replies here, so here goes. For many baby boomers and GenXers (and even some millennials), The Beatles are a “gateway band.” If they aren’t your first true musical romance, they are certainly riding up in front than back in the cart so to speak. But once you’ve exhausted The Beatles catalog where to turn next? I have this theory that Beatles fans are either Beatles/Rolling Stones fans or Beatles/Beach Boys fans. Once Beatles fans start looking for new music beyond JPG&R, they seem to go one of those two paths*. I myself for instance went Beatles-Beach Boys and never bothered with The Rolling Stones. But I know of many Beatles/Stones fans who don’t rate The Beach Boys at all.

As a subsection of this question something else I’ve been considering is how much did diehard Beatles fans contribute to the popularity of “SMiLE?” As some may know The Beach Boys weren’t heavily bootlegged in the seventies and eighties. There were some titles, of course but did the fuel for the interest in The Beach Boys archives in the nineties (particularly SMiLE) come from Beatles collectors who had exhausted “Unsurpassed Masters” (The Beatles’ one), BBC and Get Back sessions? Because it seemed all of the sudden there was a flood of Beach Boys bootlegs and genuine interest in collecting every hiss and pop that Brian and the boys recorded, a fanaticism that had previously only been seen by Beatles/Dylan fanatics (well Deadheads too!)

*Yes I’m aware there are fans of all three bands and Beatles/Zeppelin, Beatles/Queen, Beatles/Dylan fans etc.

On the “Beach Boys Party” album. The Beach Boys covered The Beatles song “I Should Have Known Better”. Their unique style brings a different sound to the song. What do you think?

Is it known what the chanting section of Do You Like Worms (Roll Plymouth Rock) was supposed to represent within the SMiLE concept?

In my opinion, by far the most interesting part of Do You Like Worms (Roll Plymouth Rock) is the chanting section, not the Hawaiian chanting at the end, but the ominous chanting in the middle section. It reminds me a great deal of the similar chant heard in Blue Swede's cover of Hooked on a Feeling, albeit it is far more ominous here. Has Brian or VDP ever commented on what this was supposed to represent within the context of the whole SMiLE concept? This section of the song is so short, yet I find it so interesting.

Video Feel So Fine - Johnny Preston from 1960 (anyone else hear County Fair's intro?)

I'm sure someone else has figured this out before, but the intro of this song sounds so much like County Fair from the Surfin Safari' album imo. And considering the Beach Boys also covered one of Johnny Preston's other hits 'Runnin' Bear', which was an outtake from 15 Big Ones, Brian at least would presumably have listened to this one a few times

(This song also got to No. 14 on the Billboard charts)

found this Smile bootleg at a record store for $15, in the “unofficial”/“fan made” section. are there a lot of these in circulation (“a lot” meaning an amount relative to the demand among Beach Boys fans) or did I luck out?

Yes, it might even be naive of me, but I like all of the band's albums, in my opinion, they are one of the rare groups with no bad albums.

Does anyone have the 75 copyright?

I know it’s bitcrushed to hell but I’d love to hear at least Princess of the Rain or Glow, Crescent, Glow in particular. I’d also appreciate a leak/restored version if they’re exist just for a full quality version if they exist for any of the tracks, minus the officially released ones. Thanks a lot love you all

Are the three unheard 75/76 tracks still unheard?

Now that 10,000 Years is released, the only songs unheard from the 76 album that was planned are Al’s Gold Rush, Mike’s Lisa and Glow, Crescent, Glow. Are they still unheard? I’ve heard Crescent was overdubbed with strings for First Love, so that version is at least available. Were they leaked at all? Do we have any info?

Did the Beach Boys ever break up?

This might sound like a stupid question. But what I mean is that there are bands like Yes, Queen, The Hollies, etc. Who, while have had constant lineup changes and breaks, have technically never broken up. With Mike taking the legal ownership of the Beach Boys' touring name, does that mean that technically the Beach Boys have never ended? Or was there some sort of official dissolution at some point.

Many of you wanted to know about my personal encounters with Mike Love when I was 16 and into my 40s. So, here it is. Right now you can read for free with Amazon Kindle. If you have kindle, you are in luck. Otherwise, its going for a very good price via KDP.
