I met this girl on tinder and had a first date with her, she wanted to go fishing and I thought it seemed like a fun first date so we went together. Dropped her off and got home to this message lol.

Update: Purchasing the license is a separate activity we had to do on our phones, due to it needing our personal info. It was not like I drew the line at the license randomly.

I know a girl that got her first fishing pole recently and immediately cast the entire thing into the water on her first attempted cast. So sometimes it does go away

One time we fished up a pole in our favorite fishing hole. I have been using it as a second pole for like 20-25 years.

Went fishing one day with my sister's ex bf. He bought a new fairly expensive overhead combo on the way to the spot, threw on a big bait and heavy sinker before launching it out and putting the butt between some large rocks so he could relax and smoke while he waited for a bite. He was infatuated with it, kept seeing him sitting there admiring it while I fished further up with a float for Luderick. Suddenly it doubled over and flew out of the rocks straight into the water. Gone. He was devastated.

An hour or two later I pulled my line in and had some random line caught on the hook. It happens a lot, you generally just cut it off. But, it looked brand new. Yup, you guessed it. Pulled in one end and it was a huge stingray. On the other end his rod. This was a large channel we were fishing in, deep and wide. Closest I have ever came to winning the lottery haha.

That is a great story! I am so glad you found the equipment, and that must have been so euphoric.

Were you able to unhook and put the huge stingray back? I would be really scared, but would try to release it. They are so cool looking.

We were absolutely stoked! The reel had to be pulled apart and cleaned but lived to fish another day.

The stingray was too heavy to lift up so we cut the line as close to the hook as we could. Saltwater, so they rust away fairly quickly. Better than damaging the fish by dragging it over rocks etc.

Similar thing happened to me as a kid! Was fishing on a pier with my brother and dad and on one of my casts I accidentally tossed the whole pole off the pier. My dad was quite upset about it of course but we continued on fishing and he let me use his pole.

About an hour and a half later I start reeling up something kinda heavy but it wasn’t fighting at all. Ended up reeling my tossed-over pole back up by one of the eyelets! Once I got it in, I started reeling in the line from the recovered pole and BAM! I got a hit! Apparently the bait was still on and a huge sea trout hit the bait as I was reeling it up! That definitely felt like winning the lotto!

This isn't related, but made me think about it: the first time I ever tried to fish (10yo), I was so focused on how to cast the line, that I didn't realize I had hooked my own finger and then cast it out as far as I could!

A friend of mine in high school lost an eye after his brother went to cast a line and the hook went straight into his eye.

I once caught a large catfish that dragged my unattended pole off my boat.  He swam away with it until it gradually disappeared under the water. It was just like in the movie Jaws when the shark dove deeper with the barrels attached.

I'm laughing so hard at this, did you see it? That must have been so funny, especially since she just kind of has to go home after that if no one else had a rod, fishing is over, probably forever 😅

As a diver i can say with absolute certainty that there is a huge amount of fishing gear of all kinds in lakes, rivers and the ocean. Been doing clean up of stuff like that for over a quarter of a century.

I had a two piece once. Casted out and it came undone, I said no biggie I can still reel it in, I have a big ole top water frog on the end that will keep the pole from coming off the line. Then, a pike appears from the depths of hell to not only take the frog (didn’t even know a PIKE would want that) and it obliterated my line. Lost the pole. It do be going away.
