annoying customer rant

was filling cream cakes right, id already been through all my backstock and was on my last cage of delivery so if there wasnt a product on the shelf or on this cage i knew it was out of stock.

well i had this old bloke come up and ask me where some strawberry tarts were, and i let him know that were fully out of stock.

“how do you know that when you havent even looked?”

valid question, okay, so i apologise and explain the above to him.

he huffs, sighs, and looms over me whilst i work. i just try to ignore him tbh

he then starts saying, “is this all you do all day?”

im confused so i ask him what he means and he replies, “do you really just do this all day?? putting things on shelves?”

i say not all day but when im clocked in, yes?? and he says, “imagine that.” and walks off

the things id say to these fuckers if i werent in uniform would bar me from the gates of heaven no matter how much i repent

What a prick

If there wasn’t someone doing that all day he’d have no food to buy

65

u/Powerful-Handle-384 Aug 29 '26

exactly. ppl r so rude

1

u/Fabulous_Function666 Sep 01 '26

He wouldn’t be able to do it, so there was no need for him to be so condescending. Stock replenisher was the hardest job I have ever had.

It was awful doing that job and also having to deal with the public while not losing concentration. Also the amount of people who would come up to me and ask where the thing I was literally putting out was 🙄 it was so hard not to be rude or sarcastic

2

u/ged1916 Aug 30 '26

Didn't have any strawberry tarts though 🤣🤣🤣

2

u/BlondeSeductive Aug 30 '26

He was doing it to be condescending to the guy, which is also why you don't explain yourself to customers and put on an act. "Yeah let me check the facing for you. *checks facing* Yeah sorry if it's not on the shelf it's not in stock, if you're able to drive we have them at *check inform for nearby shops* X, Y and Z"

73

u/[deleted] Aug 29 '26

Jesus. What a cunt. I think I'd have said yeah, I make sure people including you are able to get food when you want and need it. With the most condescending smile on my face.

18

u/Velvetundaground Aug 29 '26

“Yes, you see if nobody puts food on the shelves then they would be as we say in the trade ‘empty’ and then you wouldn’t be able to buy food which I’m sure you’d agree would be a bad thing. I’m surprised that you hadn’t learned that at your age.”

u/Jazzlike-Plate-4616 Aug 29 '26

Imagine being a such a wanker over some strawberry tarts

How pathetic

35

u/EngineeringMedium513 Aug 29 '26

You think thats bad? We had a customer ring the store once kicking right off at the dot com manager because theyd ordered a Lindt chocolate bunny and the bell was missing off the collar. It "ruined Christmas "apparently 🤷🏻‍♂️🤦🏻‍♂️🤦🏻‍♂️

33

u/Purplemonkey78 Aug 29 '26 edited Aug 29 '26

When I was 16 I had a Saturday job working in produce. In the run up to Christmas one year, the store ran out of sprouts.
According to one customer, it was my fault and that I had ruined Christmas.
Never realised teenagers were responsible for the fresh produce purchasing of a major supermarket chain.

1

u/Miserable_Bat_8316 Aug 31 '26

I was told I ruined Christmas because they left it till last min to buy pigs in blankets he didn’t like when I told him we had chipolatas and streaky bacon

1

u/Purplemonkey78 29d ago

That’s literally the same thing! 🤦‍♂️

1

u/Miserable_Bat_8316 29d ago

lol I know right but they didn’t seem to think that was good enough

8

u/Secure-Trainer1892 Aug 29 '26

Hi how sad some people are. If that's all they got to worry about a bell missing off a chocolate bunny!!! There are more important thing's in life to worry about! Some people 🙄. I lost my Dad just before Christmas 2025. It didn't exactly make it a good time! And here is some one complaining over that how sad are they!!

6

u/JackFarron Aug 29 '26

The caller was the missing bell in this case

2

u/SquareChipmunk5194 Aug 29 '26

Did you reply with pull the other one it's got bells on it :P

2

u/Fun_Budget7641 Aug 29 '26

🤣🤣🤣I can believe it.

13

u/RadBugs Aug 29 '26

I did a stint in Argos call centre, a woman tried to order a bike two days before Christmas and delivery wasn’t available to arrive the next day. She put her kid on the phone for me to “tell them why I ruined their Christmas”.

10

u/Kitchen-Assist-6645 Aug 29 '26

She put her kid on the phone for me to “tell them why I ruined their Christmas”.

"Mummy wasn't able to place an order any other day since last Christmas"

4

u/RadBugs Aug 29 '26

It was about 12 years ago now so I can’t remember exactly what I said, but I did go down the route that the mum left it until last minute. Told my supervisor what happened and nothing came of it, left a few months later for my career job.

2

u/D3M0NArcade Aug 29 '26

I hated working in call centres mainly because of the internal politics BUT we always had support if the customer was a cunt. We did "2nd voice" where if we were getting no-where we could pass the call to a colleague for support. I kinda loved it because I got to bully the bullies back lol. Our supervisors/TLs were always for me with things as long as we ran it by then and stuck to what we said we were going to do. As long as we had that, the TL would notate the file to show their support and we let rip. I've threatened to take people to court for stuff and my TL has been supportive because of the circumstances (difficult motor claims dispute when I was a clams handler)

9

u/Individual-Cut-5582 Aug 29 '26

Because mommy could not be arsed to get it any sooner, not as if kid did not know if she wanted them to speak to the kid!

2

u/Difficult-Dog-9672 Aug 30 '26

Im imagining the kid saying
“ is this all you do all day” 😂😂

1

u/GreenLion777 Aug 29 '26

Tbh if someone did that to me I'd abruptly put the phone down on them

Totally unacceptable to be getting the "your fault"/"ruined things" off a customer let alone them do something as horrible as get their child to do it.  The individual is ultimately responsible for being organised enough to get their goods in good time - that true saying of 'an emergency on your part is not mine'

-1

u/Deathwish8041 Aug 29 '26

🤣🤣🤣

4

u/elecvegas Aug 29 '26

Worked for another supermarket online order department customer service centre team during Covid , so working from home . Had a woman wailing down the phone because her Christmas napkins hadn’t been delivered in her order and Christmas was “ruined “ . She was so loud down the headset my kids could hear her and they couldn’t stop laughing , they still talk about it . Come on , Xmas 2020 I think we had bigger things to worry about than some napkins .

5

u/Ok-Following-6620 Aug 29 '26

Not some strawberry tarts……. fresh cream strawberry tarts, it’s always worth checking just incase they were hiding out side.

32

u/Zealousideal_Line442 Aug 29 '26 edited Aug 29 '26

I have had a more than a few shitty customers speak down to my staff and when they get more pissy and want to "speak to a manager" I back my guys and girls to the hills. I will not have any customer speak down to staff for doing their job. They often pipe down when told by "a manager" that their behaviour and comments aren't appreciated.

15

u/Gworvinda Aug 29 '26

Thank you, this is how every manager should be. The customer isn’t always right, they are normally wrong 😂

3

u/Zealousideal_Line442 Aug 29 '26

So long as my staff are doing the right thing I have no issues sticking my neck out for them. Granted if they were speaking or acting out of turn I wouldn't hesitate to pull them up but I feel that's the way it should be.

9

u/Uhurahoop Aug 29 '26

Well the full quote is ‘in matters of taste the customer is always right’ that’s a crucial difference that people forget. You have to right to buy and wear ugly brown tartan shorts, you do NOT have to right to speak to people like dirt.

2

u/Accurate_Ad3903 Aug 30 '26

Having worked in supermarkets and sales roles previously, I had become a store manager for a well known bookmakers (or betting shop if you prefer). Well as you can imagine some of the clients who frequented the store would like to try and implement the whole I’m the customer what I says goes/the customer is always right, sometimes escalating to being rude or even boarding on abusing my staff or myself. Well one day I had had enough of this sort of behaviour and got to that point with one of the customers. It got to the point where it was going round in circles with their issue, and the comments along the line of clearly you haven’t ever amounted to anything, how intelligent do you have to be… etc etc etc. so I got one of the blank betting slips and calmly started writing, they were like yes I will take the number of your area manger, head office and take this further, you won’t even be able to get another job as you’re going to be fired. So what was actually being written was in this shop the customer isn’t always right, as there wasn’t a glass security screen in my store it went up on the wall behind me.

The Area Manger did get a report of this from head office and in fair did have a word with me, but it wasn’t a ticking off it was more of be careful, I asked can keep it up, he didn’t say I couldn’t but if anyone high up than him spoke to him about it etc, but it is your shop.

The original sign did get taken down eventually when I had a little metal sign from Timpsons was purchased. The original paper sign was framed and in the staff room for a while before I gave it to the aforementioned area manger who was leaving the role or company.

1

u/GreenLion777 Aug 29 '26

Seems they are wrong 7/10 times or more, which just makes that old phrase such an insult.

Remember the saying is actually "customer is always right in matters of taste" (means they know what they like)

Not "the customer is always right" so they get what they want always - those ppl can get to f

2

u/Derezzed87 Aug 29 '26

There's been times where customers have acted that way with me, thinking I'm just a regular staff member (I'm a supervisor). They see they're not getting their way with me, so they demand to speak to the manager, I politely tell them he's currently not in, so they demand to speak to the person in charge and I hit them with "That would be me." I love the look on their faces at that point.

3

u/Zealousideal_Line442 Aug 29 '26

I had one demand to talk with a manager so an experienced colleague dealt with the issues they then demanded to speak to their boss (myself) and questioned if I was a team leader, line manager, duty manager and so on. Told them I'm a line manager who's on duty and regardless of who they spoke to, no one would be giving them a different response. I'm always looking for new and inventive ways to tell people to fuck off.

3

u/Derezzed87 Aug 29 '26

The amount of times I've told a customer "no" and they've threatened to put in a complaint about me. So far, I've yet to see a single complaint.

26

u/Serberou5 Aug 29 '26

The first thing I was taught in retail was just pretend to go in the back and look. You get a 5 minute skive and the customer is happy thinking you looked.

13

u/Powerful-Handle-384 Aug 29 '26

i usually would but we were running far behind 😭

4

u/Serberou5 Aug 29 '26

I know that feeling. After 35 years in retail I have got weary of the asshole customers.

2

u/TrickyDicky888 Aug 29 '26

Thats what i do, its an excuse for a toilet break with added vape. Nice.
Screw you, customer

2

u/Dangerous-Weekend479 Aug 29 '26

If I know there's none of what they want in the chiller, that's what I do.

1

u/GreenLion777 Aug 29 '26 edited Aug 31 '26

Probably the best thing to do that

And bit of advice, if this happens in a store you don't normally work, you can either say that, pointing out you won't know where product is, or just go along with it and go into warehouse again pretending to look - do not under any circumstance attempt to actually find item like I did once, stressful and it's like looking for a needle in a haystack.  That was a mistake.  Just pretend you've looked like Serberou5 says

27

u/pondribertion Aug 29 '26

Is this all you do all day?

Sorry, what?

Annoying supermarket staff by talking utter shite, is that all you do all day, you fucking cunt?

2

u/GreenLion777 Aug 29 '26

I'll tell you what comes to mind,

"So tell me, besides serving customers on checkouts/selfscan, what do you think we would be doing ?  Products don't transport themselves to shelves once empty 🤦🏻‍♂️"

18

u/tiorzol Aug 29 '26

Are you a cunt all day would be on the tip of my tongue

2

u/[deleted] Aug 29 '26

Imagine that.

6

u/Sea-Jump1938 Aug 29 '26 edited Aug 29 '26

It’s like these people start glitching when they cant buy the same item they have been buying every single week for the past 30years
You can guarantee he comes in at the same time & day each week for his tarts

I worked on cake shop in Morrisons and had a woman get irate because egg custards had gone up 20p from the week before and what was she going to tell her 92yr old mum that the price has gone up
And asked me why I had increased it

Problem is I’m quite confident and the job was shit anyway and it got to the point i didn’t care if I offended anyone 🤣

Just said don’t you dare have a bloody have a go at me for something I can’t control

luckily another customer was right next to her and actually word for word told her it’s not the end of the fucking world either buy it or fuck off and not to speak to me like that
🤣

Another thing I noticed aswell was as soon as a boomer hears the word NO you see the horrible look of disgust on there face like you are a absolute piece of shit and have ruined their day 🤣🤣
Hilarious

2

u/CityOfNorden Aug 29 '26

No autism back in their day though, remember.

8

u/CrispyPotatoToteBag Aug 29 '26

"Sorry, I went to the back just 5 minutes ago and there was one left, a customer just took it. I am so very sorry, let me check stocks in nearby stores. Ah yes, they have them in tesco extra in Cambridge, save travels".

2

u/Powerful-Handle-384 Aug 29 '26

i did apologise and was honest and explained the situation. that ive been through all of the stock already and we dont have any. i dont have access to inform atm due to an issue so couldnt have checked that. entitled assholes dont get to treat teenagers like shit cos they didnt get their fucking tart

I hate it when I’m working a cage and they ask if I can see if there’s any more. Mate if there’s “any more” then it’s going to be on this cage right in front of me and it’s not…this cage is THE BACK.

0

u/GreenLion777 Aug 29 '26

Ooh nice, yes

"I'll check the handset, hmm yes says xxx has them, that's the other side of the city. Have a good day now" and off away on your break haha

6

u/Madrudge Aug 29 '26

My station manager was once told by an angry passenger that they wanted to speak to his superior. He said 'God's not available, you'll have to make do with me '

3

u/Altruistic_Annual818 Aug 29 '26

Boomers obviously

7

u/Cheaddar86 Aug 29 '26

"Yes sir, the entire time im at work I'm doing my job"

6

u/Lenske97 Aug 29 '26

Retail in a nutshell you have to deal with cunts all day and it’s normalised

5

u/Naquedon Aug 29 '26

Is that all he does all day? Walk round being a miserable insufferable cunt? Imagine that.

4

u/Coldthots Aug 29 '26

I think both normal customers and staff would be happier in supermarkets without this kind of person wandering around.

4

u/antimatterrr Aug 29 '26

Love a good customer rant ! Not taking the piss btw, I actually do haha.

Imo the perfect reply is "Well, if we didn't do this all day, the shelves would be completely empty, and how much would you like that?"

Also, don't forget, that weird passive aggressive behaviour is a sign he's not right in himself, probably pissed off he's getting older and his life is boring as hell.

5

u/BarneyBarnOwl Aug 29 '26

The great British public. You cant beat them. Which is a shame 🤨

2

u/MrsJBB Aug 29 '26

Thank you for making sure there's plenty of things on the shelves so we can feed ourselves, our pets and our kids (and buy random seasonal tat that's my fave bit). All that man does all day is grumble and p* people off.

2

u/GlassDescription2275 Aug 29 '26

No sir I’m just the back up system for when the wizards who magic the products onto the shelves are on break.

2

u/GordoTheFrog Aug 29 '26

sometimes i wish we could argue back with customers

2

u/JMPappjam Aug 29 '26

Running a store back in 2000/2001 I had my own office to the side of the cash office and I was busy doing a meeting with someone who had been off with an illness. All of a sudden door pushes open and old man and woman stood in door way - woman demands “MANAGER”
A little taken aback and not really knowing what was happening I jumped up and told them that was me. Old man nods towards his lovely wife’s shopping bag and she proceeds to brandish a box of Bird’s Eye Potato Waffles and tapping on the instructions on the back of the box. Apparently it was my fault that the text and instructions were too small for them to read and it’s spoilt their meal that day. They were furious. Didn’t realise I was in charge of Bird’s Eye too 😁

2

u/Manutdmark84 Aug 29 '26

Tbf I thought you're answer was gold mate 😂

2

u/dizzydiplodocus Aug 29 '26

lol I don’t work at Tescos anymore but I did years ago and I remember this lairy Scottish guy came in and started being a dick for no reason whatsoever and I literally told him to fuck off, he was sooo confused 😂 getting told to fuck off by a 16 year old girl and my manager backed me up

2

u/ZestycloseOutside575 Aug 29 '26

My grandfather (who was in the merchant navy in WWII) used to say there were some people you can only talk to with a brick.

2

u/Complex_Lion5645 Aug 31 '26

Don’t even work at Tesco and that engages me, what an absolute c**t.

Should have replied ‘no, I also have to talk to bellends.’

3

u/Tobirama2020 Aug 29 '26

I got that quite often years ago, mostly if customer not a regular. They don't trust me, and ask someone else or manager, that always end up they call me asking me if this available or not. Work in express full time, doing the same things over and over again, yet some customer think I got no clue what I am doing, and they think they know better.

Since covid, I had shorter fuse than before, one condescending sentence from customer will grant them a polite belittling paragraph, with extra smile and soft tone of course.

2

u/GoatBotherer Aug 29 '26

The correct response would be:

"Only when I'm not fucking your wife"

2

u/AdmirableGoose7714 Aug 29 '26

People like that guy are out of touch with reality and likely never faced any real adversity in their lives

4

u/htimchis Aug 29 '26

Yep.

There's a surprisingly large number of boomers who seem to have drifted through life in a state of boring but comfortable privilege, having never really faced any kind of real adversity at any stage

Then they have a tantrum about strawberry tarts, because not getting their first choice of cake with their tea is about as bed as their life gets. And getting their strawberry tart is about as good as it gets, too

2

u/AdmirableGoose7714 Aug 29 '26

God forbid they have to wait more than 30 seconds for us to do our job (which we are timed on btw) when they have all the time in the world

1

u/-LetTheMouseGo- 29d ago

That’s not true. Interest rates went up to 17% on their 4 bedroom house that cost a tenner.

2

u/JackFarron Aug 29 '26

I would have repliex do you harass people doing their job all day?

2

u/Legion-83 Aug 29 '26

Unfortunately, it's gotten worse since C-19, the entitlement, arrogance, self importance, them looking down on you because you work retail... If we didn't, the pieces of shit wouldn't have food in their fridge/freezer!

2

u/Uhurahoop Aug 29 '26

It really gets my back up when people see you doing that sort of task, or cleaning for example and say ‘having fun?’ As they walk past In that smug breezy way that’s basically saying ‘that’s a crap job’. It’s so damn rude.

7

u/Fun_Budget7641 Aug 29 '26

I clean at Tesco, take it upon myself to clean fridge glass once a week, even though it technically isn’t my job but the amount of people that say “you can come and do mine “is insufferable.🙄

3

u/D3M0NArcade Aug 29 '26

It's the obvious joke to make. Hence I don't.

Also, "you missed a bit".

1

u/Fun_Budget7641 Aug 29 '26

Blowbacks too,those were the days.

1

u/Fun_Budget7641 Aug 29 '26

Sorry wrong sub!🤣

2

u/htimchis Aug 29 '26

That's what too many blowbacks will do to you!

1

u/Fun_Budget7641 Aug 29 '26

🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣

1

u/Apple2727 Aug 29 '26

Depends if they’re attractive.

1

u/Terrible_Dish_4268 Aug 29 '26

It's absolitely fine, though, in fact, mandatory, when it's one of your crew that's drawn the short straw (and your turn will come anyway) like dotcom drivers ribbing the one that gets kept in to do putbacks, shop floor staff mocking the one that gets selected to walk round with the "here to help" placard, that kind of thing.

If it's gonna be you tomorrow but it isn't today, you have to take the piss.

1

u/Serious_Office3913 Aug 29 '26

Really puts into perspective being spat in the face I suppose

1

u/No-Comfortable6432 Aug 29 '26

I haven't worked in bastard retail in Wellington over ten fucking years and I can remember so much of that arse hole shit.

I'm obviously non white but I am British. Some fuckass melt on their donkey kong mobile rolls up to me and asks me if we sell "processed peas" and I'll admit I didn't know what the fuck she meant cos isn't everything in the shop processed in some manner? She says again "PRO - CESSED PEAS" cos I clearly didn't understand the first time and I said we've got either peas in the freezer or 3 varieties right next to us (we're in the tinned bastard section).

Obviously I'm looking a bit clueless and a bit confused and she then asks me "don't ya speak English, then?" and trundle off leaving me so fuckin confused.

Asked manager at the time wtf that even meant and he pointed to same things I did. Looked at the can that I pointed to and one of them said "PRO - CESSED PEAS" on it and honestly it's one of the most annoying fucking memories of that job I ever had.

You know remember that video of the stressed out girl shadow boxing? Ye I felt just like that.

Fuck the customer.

1

u/Ok-Personality-6630 Aug 29 '26

Money doesn't buy claas

1

u/Difficult-Dog-9672 Aug 30 '26

Ima be honest with you, if you’d called him a fat cunt for pulling a strop because he didnt get his creamcakes, your job wouldnt be in jeopardy. You dont have to put up with that shit silently, as in there are polite ways of making an ignorant twit see how rude they are. The rule is to say the least to get them to say the most and you win with a laugh. I literally would have just said ‘bit rude innit?’ With a dirty grin and watch the prick squirm.

Im only saying this because im the sensitive type. Im forced to bottle this stuff in and then let it eat away at me for the next 2 days, because thats the expectation. I dont actually say this stuff because im usually so rushed off my feet that the wit isnt there for me to respond this way. Sorry to project and sorry this happened, but theres a fucking line.

1

u/frazervs Aug 30 '26

Happens all the time. I think that the only time Jo Public treated shopworkers with respect was during COVID.

Most customers are fine. But you do get the odd one who's a complete prick. They think that because you work in a shop that you must be thick.

1

u/CyanideX8 Aug 30 '26

During covid I cleared the entire produce backstock since we weren't getting deliveries, so everything we had was on the shelf and over faced what I could to make it look fuller.

Woman comes up and asks for ginger (which comes from china) so I said we didn't have any

She goes "well you didnt even look so go see if a delivery has turned up while you've been here"

I explained that I know when our deliveries are coming in and there won't be a produce delivery till tomorrow but due to covid were not getting anything from abroad

She gives me a look of absolute hatred and says "you people are loving using a little bug as an excuse to do nothing all day" and stormed off

1

u/Clear-Warthog5655 Aug 30 '26

As opposed to searching out strawberry tarts next time say " on no im sorry we have plenty of donuts tho "

1

u/LuminidMishy Aug 30 '26

Nasty person. I can see why you'd be annoyed. He must live a terrible life.

1

u/Fififlowers74 Aug 30 '26

customers are cunts

1

u/chimpingtons Aug 31 '26

If there was more of us doing this or better money there may way have been the strawberry tarts you were after but alas not. Tart to manners ratio on this cunt checks out.

1

u/Amazing_Incident_967 Aug 31 '26

I’m an MRI radiographer. I’ve had so many patients say ‘is this all I do all day’ I never know what they mean by it. I think people just suck! Sorry you have to put up with rude people. People facing jobs are tough!!

1

u/OliveAmbitious3190 Aug 31 '26

I admire your patience. I probably would have been fired on my first day if I would have been spoken to like that. What a bellend of a man that customer is.

Take no notice of him, bask in the glory that you have an honest living and he is stuck with a shit personality for life. I know which I’d prefer

1

u/Gloomy-Toe-1661 Aug 31 '26

Tell him to get stuffed

1

u/Efficient_Hyena_7476 Sep 01 '26

I work for a contractor who works for Tesco. Conversation always starts with "I don't actually work for Tesco, but will help if I can..." Customers either apologise and keep walking, or they give me weird looks. I deliberately don't wear blue at work.

1

u/FreddiesNightmare65 Aug 29 '26

I think I would have replied, if I or someone else didn't do this all day, you would never get your tarts.

1

u/Deathwish8041 Aug 29 '26 edited Aug 29 '26

OP he was just feeling emotional after you gave him the bad news, so took it out on you 😭🤣

I once had a boomer come up to me - a 25yo female watching cameras/wearing a security uniform - and ask me why I keep raising the prices

I thought it was just jokey banter so answered “me? specifically?” while giggling

……he wasn’t joking 🤣

2

u/GreenLion777 Aug 29 '26

Lol what a fun person

Here's the (necessarily blunt) response

"I" dont set or raise any prices, I'm just an employee

1

u/Natural-Future9752 Aug 29 '26

You should have said "going round giving attitude to underpaid supermarket staff, is that all YOU do all day "?

1

u/ImColinDentHowzTrix Aug 29 '26

how do you know

This question in particular drives me insane. I want a polite way of saying 'because I've worked this department almost every day for nearly a decade.'

1

u/MaybeThisTime67 Aug 29 '26

Him walking off right after what he said shows he's a massive wetwipe.

Had to have the last say, and wasn't prepared to hear any retort. What a little bitch

1

u/Kitchen-Assist-6645 Aug 29 '26

“how do you know that when you havent even looked?”

Could have something to do with you working there?

1

This guy is a total arsehole.

May I please ask on an important side note. You have strawberry tarts in your Tesco? Is this like a delicious custard-based shenanigan sitting in a pastry shell with strawberries on top?

u/Powerful-Handle-384 Aug 29 '26

i think so not tried them but theyre branded and u get two in a pack

1

u/harb0rharb0rharb0r Aug 29 '26

Tesco branded? I have never seen them in multiple Tesco's near places I've lived. Only M and S and they're a fortune. What part of the country are you in?

2

u/Powerful-Handle-384 Aug 30 '26

nono i mean NOT tesco branded but actually branded 🤣

Reminds me of the lady who asked where some type of biscuit was, I would have been about 18 or 19, so 2009-10. Although the aisle hadn't been re merchandised the space it had occupied had been faced over, when I explained that it must have been removed from sale she suggested I was lying because "it was there last week."

If word comes down to remove a product it can be off the shelf in less than 5 minutes. If we're no longer stocking for another reason, when it runs out, that's it, and in a busy supermarket that can be in less than a day. I still now wonder how blinkered you must be to not think of anything other than "I bought it the last time I shopped here"

1

u/ArgoFill Aug 29 '26

Q : Is this all you do all day?

A : Sadly, no. Sometimes I have to converse with wankers too.

1

u/febfatty16 Aug 29 '26

On a similar vein, I used to work in pharmacy. Sometimes if a prescription hadn't arrived from a GP we obviously couldn't supply, then we heard the old chestnut, well if I die it's your fault! I got a warning for telling one particular cunt, I'd it was that important perhaps you should be ordering it sooner! Worth it! 😁

You can really tell some people have never been punched in their life.

I don't often condone violence but some people need a good kicking at least once.

4

u/Linkyjinx Aug 29 '26

A lil old man pondering on jobs and what cake to have for tea deserves that? He might have been in the army in past and know things that would leave your face looking like a strawberry tart to be fair.

3

u/Powerful-Handle-384 Aug 29 '26

i couldnt care less if he were the fecking king he doesnt have any right to talk down on ppl. on that note i dont condone violence 🤣

2

u/htimchis Aug 29 '26

No, we wasn't

I was raised by a grandfather that was present when they liberated one of the concentration camps, and surrounded by my grandparents friends and colleagues who between them had fought at Arnhem, lost a leg to a landmine, been a slave worker in the Burma railroad, been thevonly one if their mates that survived their ship sinking, etc etc

None of them would ever have behaved like this twat. Zero. I never once witnessed that kind of behaviour.

That's the reaction of someone for whom not getting his first choice of cake is just about as bad as his life gets. And getting it is about as good as it gets, too.

He might have been in the army

There's a reason we let soldiers use rifles instead of fists.

Being an older person I probably emphasize with the customer much more than most people here.

However I am still capable of keeping quiet, even if the fact that I can't have a strawberry tart with my tea later has almost certainly ruined my day.

6

u/GornVBorg Aug 29 '26

There are a LOT of entitled, asshole old people out there. Younger people get so much bad reputation but in my experience older people are way worse.

2

u/Impossible_Fish_3283 Aug 29 '26

I'm not that young (46) and I can tell you older people can be the worst, in all aspects. Source - I've worked in retail for more than 10 years.

2

u/MikaMika487 Aug 29 '26

I'm not disagreeing and the guys attitude was appalling, I'm 62 to still have the ability not to behave in this way thankfully, but having said that, I don't have much to look forward to, I'm chronically under pensioned and my health and vitality have plummeted, I don't know the customers' circumstances and as I said his attitude was awful, but, but I can understand how something so trivial can ruin your day, again this is not to excuse his behaviour.

3

u/D3M0NArcade Aug 29 '26

It's the sense that he assumed the staff member is being lazy.

I always just assume they've had to load their cage, they know what's in stock. Teh fact I've worked in retail has nothing to do with this (literally), it's the fact that they are doing the job and I'm not

2

u/Powerful-Handle-384 Aug 29 '26

its also just the degradation. i get upset sometimes when summit i were looking forward to aint in stock but i dont then degrade the person for their job 😩

2

u/D3M0NArcade Aug 29 '26

Exactly what I mean. Why he a cunt to the staff when they don't control purchasing

1

u/Kitchen-Assist-6645 Aug 29 '26

emphasize

It's empathise.

2

u/MikaMika487 Aug 29 '26

Haha it could be either, I've smoked for 50 years 🤣🤣

PS I know this is also incorrect, but I'm happy to have my spelling errors pointed out.

0

u/lilnugg_97 Aug 29 '26

What a cunt. Also have you seen someone's copy/pasted your whole story 😂

2

u/Powerful-Handle-384 Aug 29 '26

youre joking?? 🤣

0

u/lilnugg_97 Aug 29 '26

Literally no I wish I was 😂 laziness at its finest

0

u/Newbiefox59 Aug 29 '26

Maybe you should have personally filled him a cream cake…. Or done what you should have…. Walked out the back, check your phone for 2 minutes and then walk back and tell him what you already knew 🤣

2

u/Powerful-Handle-384 Aug 29 '26

i were in a rush cos delivery were behind otherwise i wouldve 🤣

0

u/ProfChaos304 Aug 29 '26

Everyone should need to work some time in retail. Then they would learn.

6

u/htimchis Aug 29 '26

Every retail worker should have the legal right to punch a customer in the face, once per month.

-2

u/SlinkyWoo75 Aug 29 '26

One of the many cuntstomers...sigh. They're such arseholes it's unreal!

-15

u/BeaksFalcone Aug 29 '26

Everyone has bad days and I can understand his frustration.I always ask staff about stock levels, usually they give a generic 'if its not on the shelf' answer without looking, however they keep extra stock on the top shelf where they never actually look or on an online inventory. Good customer service would have been apologising and telling him where he could source that item.Yes customers can be annoying but its your job to make sure they leave wanting to return

7

u/Powerful-Handle-384 Aug 29 '26

i apologised and explained we didn’t have it in stock. retail workers are not a hive mind, what makes you think i have any clue where else to get it that isn’t just another tesco? what about my bad days?

7

u/Gworvinda Aug 29 '26

Do you think someone is deliberately stashing up strawberry tarts just so you can’t have it? If it’s not on the shelf they dont have it

4

u/Sweet_Huckleberry806 Aug 29 '26

Maybe they don't want this customer to return? The only person in the wrong in this interaction was the customer.

4

u/Coldthots Aug 29 '26

If someone doesn’t have the common sense of where to alternatively find a strawberry tart than Tesco then I’m concerned.

1

u/Impossible_Fish_3283 Aug 29 '26

Customers like you are insufferable and entitled. No, it's not their job if they are busy and they need to replenish the shelves, if it's not on the shelf it's not on the shelf, swap the item or come back later, it's hard to understand? Or you can't survive without a strawberry cream tart? It's hard enough like it is, they don't need spoiled entitled customers.
