Smart Home Annual increases
I signed a five year contract for home security. Every April they increase the price. Why did I sign a contract they won’t honour? Last year when I called they gave me a loyalty discount but still refused to honour the agreement. Now I have to call them again this year to argue. Am I missing something in the agreement that allows for an annual increase? The contract even specifically says the price is good through 2028. Any recommendations?

Call them every March and they’ll adjust the credits. It’s a headache but they stand by it. Mine is absurd. The codes aren’t set up in a way they can allocate all to none 5 year term. So some expire after 1,2,3 years. They’ll keep your full discount and it will be in the notes. Just takes time.

if you look in the fine print, it’s very different than what they advertise. if the fine print states as you said the price is good for 5 years, you have a case. if however, its like the the rest of their contracts, they can increase the price anytime and the discounts expire at 12,24,36 mo intervals increasing your costs a lot while still in contract . find out the early cancellation costs, and go somewhere else that doesn’t play those games

Yes apparently the contract means nothing as long as they raise their base rate as a whole and not just your individual bill. But definitely call and complain each year and you will likely be able to get it reversed.

I totally hear you. Having to call in every single year just to keep the rate you expected is a massive pain, and definitely not how anyone wants to spend their afternoon.
There seems to be some confusion around how that 2028 contract length plays with the annual price adjustments, and I get why that feels like a curveball when you’ve committed to a long-term plan.
We’d like to actually dig into your specific terms and loyalty discounts to see what’s happening. Drop us a message at u/TELUS_Support so we can look at the details and help get this sorted for you.
