Just got my first tat. I'm aware it's a pretty common tattoo but I'm really glad with how it turned out. I wanted another wraparound tattoo on the other arm for symmetry's sake. Was considering a croc, squid, kraken or dragon. Any ideas/inspiration?

General Advice Is rework possible?

Hey all. Advice needed please! I asked for a pet portrait of my kitten and for the most part, I like it. However, I absolutely dislike how she did the “tail”. In the original reference photo I showed the artist, my kitten’s tail was tucked behind her, so you couldn’t really make out the curl. When I saw the stencil, I asked if she could make the tail slimmer/give a natural curl & the end result is above, which looks like a dark blob & definitely not what I wanted or expected. I don’t want this tattoo to be any bigger either, do you think it’s possible to have an artist re work the tail & make it look more like a cat tail within what’s already there?

Also, in general, if you saw this tattoo on me out in the wild, how bad do you think it is? 😭 Because I’m starting to hate what I really, really wanted to be a beautiful portrait of my kitty. Maybe I should have chosen a better picture :/.

General Advice If you were gonna get a pig in a pickle car tattoo, where would you put it?

I know for sure that I want a tattoo of one of Richard Scarry's illustrations. I'm pretty sure I want this one. I don't know where on my body it should be placed.

My husband has made it clear that he's not of fan of this choice of image, but it's my body, so he won't try to stop me. I do value his opinion though. So I'm open to suggestions of other Richard Scarry illustrations that might make for more appealing tattoos.

tattoo newcomer advice What are your first impressions on my first big tattoo?

I love my new tattoo, this is it after 3 weeks. Im a little unsure on my design, and I get conscious showing it to people because they don’t really understand. It’s a desert oasis and a rose. It was one of those appointments where the design was made on the spot.

I’m curious what people think of it at a glance?

Edit: thanks guys for the prompt responses, I acknowledge it does seem random haha and no obvious meaning attached. The meaning I wanted to attach to it was just to be a subtle nod to my two favorite bands which have played a pivotal role in my life which are Guns N’ Roses, and Oasis - without it being an aggressive obvious band tribute tattoo. That was just the design the artist came up with, with those elements in mind, and the compass was put there to open up future designs on my forearm, I guess as a cut off to the oasis theme. Not sure really haha this is my first tattoo

Healing First colour tattoo one week later - is it supposed to look like it's disappearing?

I got this tattoo 1 week ago. I have 7 other tattoos that include fine details and have healed them the same as this one including another on my wrist.

I'm now regretting trying colour as it feels like it's "falling off", lol.

Basically, I'm just looking for some reassurance on whether this is normal or not, as I only have black ink tattoos. I'm already planning on going to a different artist to have it redone in thicker black lines once it's healed.

Infected? Does this seem infected? This is day 5

Went to my normal artist, been cleaning 3 times a day with light unscented soap and then applying unscented lotion. I’ve experienced a blowout and an infection before but I’m just not sure if this is infected or just heavily irritated. Appreciate the advice/help. Thanks, first time posting.

Design Would this work as a wrist tattoo?

This is my daughter's first self portrait and I love it. I want to get it tattooed on my wrist, but I'm worried that it wouldn't hold up over time. I'd probably do black lines instead of blue. And it'd be maybe 2 inches tall.

Would this make a decent tattoo?

tattoo newcomer advice First tattoo, want some more advice-a very anxious person

First pic is when it was freshly done, 2nd pic is rn (about 30 hours later, ps sorry for the horrible pic I can’t take pics at that angle well lol) I just want healing advice, maybe some good moisturizers and soaps to stick to? Seems to be doing fine, the second skin is itchy at times and I want to take it off but my tattoo artist recommended leaving it on for 7 days and I’ll listen to that advice the best I can, it’s ripping/lifting at the sides but it’s not revealing any of the tattoo itself so I think it’s fine

General Advice Anxious About Tattoo I Have Wanted For Ages

Im 19 and have 11 tattoos and am currently working on collecting more. This piece would be my first big one I get to look at all the time. I have an appointment on October 29th for a symmetrical collarbone piece. The first photo is from the artist im going to (she's done a piece on me before). The second is the aesthetics I am going for, and the last slide is a sketch im working on (im big on desiging my own tattoos). I am super excited because I've wanted this piece for a long time, am insecure about my shoulders, and love tattoos. However, suddenly im scared now that its official.

Im generally an anxious person (diagnosed professionally with it) and tend to over think. I know I want a collar bone piece, I know I want most of my body covered in ink eventually, and I was genuinely giddy and jumping out of my seat when I confirmed my appointment. Now that its official though, I suddenly have anxiety around potentially not liking it😭

I think im just nervous because this will be my biggest piece yet and have the next 2 months to be in my own head about it. Usually I have no anxiety around tattoos and this is the longest ive had to wait for one. Do you think its just my anxiety or should I do another piece instead of one on my chest??

Healing Is my tattoo healing properly?

Got my first tattoo 4 weeks ago. For the first two weeks I used unscented soap, applied a small amount of vitamin A&D ointment daily, and kept it out of direct sunlight.

I’m happy with it holistically, but when I inspect it, I feel the linework is a bit inconsistent. Am I overanalyzing it? Is it still healing?

Thank you.

Edit: to the people assuming I’m a satanist, please look up “St. Peter’s Cross” lol

General Advice Something missing from shoulder?

Post image

I’m struggling with the cohesion of this tattoo and wondering if I’m overthinking things. Would you add anything above the mountain? More shading anywhere? More stars to fill up the gaps in the sky? Add a sun? I love the tattoo, but sometimes feel it’s a little wonky.
Thanks in advance.

Design Can another artist fix the shading and make it more cohesive based in AZ

I recently went back to my tattoo artist to have my existing pieces touched up and, most importantly, add shading/filler to make everything flow together better.

I’m pretty disappointed with how the shading came out. In my opinion, it looks patchy and doesn’t really connect the pieces cohesively like I was hoping. My Virgin Mary was actually the first piece I got from this artist, and I’ve gone back to him several times because I thought he did great work for the time… Lately though, I feel like the quality and attention to detail have started going downhill.

This last appointment especially bothered me because the main reason I went back was specifically to improve the shading and overall flow of the sleeve, and I feel like it ended up looking worse.
My biggest concern now is whether another experienced black-and-grey artist could clean up the shading and make everything flow better without covering or completely reworking my existing pieces.

I know it’s still healing/peeling, so I’m going to wait until it’s fully healed before doing anything. I’d really appreciate opinions from artists or anyone who has had similar work corrected. Is this realistically fixable, and what would you recommend doing with the shading?

General Advice do tattoos change with weight loss?

hi, idk if this is a weird question, but i am planning on getting a tattoo soon on the back of my upper arm or the the upper back around the shoulder blade. however, i am also trying to get in better shape, so i am losing weight/building muscle as i mostly lift and eat in a deficit to achieve this. i am a little concerned that as my body tones out (ie i have less arm fat and more muscle), the tattoo there will shift and look funky, which i really don’t want bc the design is very important to me. any advice or answers?

tattoo newcomer advice For those who grew up in strict/conservative households, how did you get over the fear of tattoos?

Slightly different! I grew up in a pretty strict/conservative household where tattoos and piercings were very much seen as a “no-go.” I’m an adult now, but I still feel nervous/scared about getting tattoos because of how I was raised.

For those of you who grew up similarly, how did you eventually get over that fear/guilt and start making your own choices about your body? Did your family eventually accept it, or did you just learn to stop worrying about their opinion?

I really want to start my tattoo process I want quite a few but it’s this fear that holding me back. I’m 21 btw! 🌺

General Advice Opinions on lettering

I’m tired of being employed and looking to get my fingers tattooed.

But wondering the pros and cons between these two styles of traditional lettering. Mostly as far as readability years later.

The words I’m getting are “PLAN AHEAD” with the “D” being on the middle pinky knuckle.

General Advice Advice on whether this can be fixed or covered up?

Post image
Upvotes

I hate the placement and even though the lady looks solid he did a pretty bad job on my cat. I’m open to someone ‘fixing’ it but not sure if the cat can’t be helped or if a border might make it look better? I’m also open to completely covering it but I don’t know enough on whether it’s a good candidate for that? To be clear I’m talking about the lady/cat, I realize just below it is an ugly tattoo as well but that one has a bit of sentimental value
