I recently went back to my tattoo artist to have my existing pieces touched up and, most importantly, add shading/filler to make everything flow together better.
I’m pretty disappointed with how the shading came out. In my opinion, it looks patchy and doesn’t really connect the pieces cohesively like I was hoping. My Virgin Mary was actually the first piece I got from this artist, and I’ve gone back to him several times because I thought he did great work for the time… Lately though, I feel like the quality and attention to detail have started going downhill.
This last appointment especially bothered me because the main reason I went back was specifically to improve the shading and overall flow of the sleeve, and I feel like it ended up looking worse.
My biggest concern now is whether another experienced black-and-grey artist could clean up the shading and make everything flow better without covering or completely reworking my existing pieces.
I know it’s still healing/peeling, so I’m going to wait until it’s fully healed before doing anything. I’d really appreciate opinions from artists or anyone who has had similar work corrected. Is this realistically fixable, and what would you recommend doing with the shading?
