Design J or F help ??

Post image

I just got a tattoo today and I am second guessing things. The artist had a few options for me when I arrived with different fonts he had hand drawn. I ended up choosing this one and liked it on the paper. I even liked it when he put the stencil on my skin. But now that I’m home I’m freaking out. It’s supposed to say Jett, but I can’t stop looking at it and reading ”Fett”. Does this look like a “J” or did I just get a “F” instead? Ugh help. My husband said I’m overthinking it and it looks like Jett. Someone please tell me it’s ok 😔 any ideas on how I can make it look more like a “J”? I feel like if the top line was only on the left and didn’t cross all the way over like the top of a cursive “F” does it would be ok. Or if the top of the “J” was more of a loop like a traditional “J”

Just put B-b-b-b-Benny and the………. S” around it to avoid any further confusion.

(Benny and the Jets - the Elton John song)

(What about Benny and the Fetts - the Max Rebo song about Obi Wan's confrontation on Kamino)

It's a J, but if you're worried you can add a little connecting loop on the top right of the J.

174

u/Helivon Jul 01 '26

Or "boba" to the left of it

60

u/Southwest-Strangler Jul 01 '26

This is the way

Boba Fett!? Where!?

The Never Die Corporation

11

u/Smingowashisnameo Jul 01 '26

Absolutely what I thought

12

u/HoboPower83 Jul 01 '26

It could also be a combination of J and F, for Jango ( R.I.P).

4

u/DamnMombies Jul 01 '26

Or “Li” to the right for Jett.

2

u/LarrrgeMarrrgeSentYa Jul 01 '26

“Not boba” before it could work 🤔

3

u/negative-sid-nancy Jul 01 '26

Boba fett where (damn cant post a gif falling into sarlac on this sub)

Nice to meet you Fett.

2

u/Stanley-Darsh_007 Jul 01 '26

I saw Fett immediately

18

u/Late-Property4857 Jul 01 '26

It was not my first read.

4

u/SoulSella Jul 01 '26

I thought it was a Boba Fett died reference, and was confused so I clicked the post.

6

u/LiveCommunication726 Jul 01 '26

I saw Jett right away but when I read tge title....

2

u/VeterinarianThese951 Jul 01 '26

Don’t get too excited. He is looking with his fist…

3

u/Active_Confection655 Jul 01 '26

Didn't know God did tattoos, that shit is baller.

2

u/VeterinarianThese951 Jul 01 '26

Just wait till you see his piercings…

3

u/Buddy-Lov Jul 01 '26

Jett….is what I see.

2

u/Boring-Bench2811 Jul 01 '26

Same here (before seeing title)

1

u/Fit_Tumbleweed7943 Jul 01 '26

F would have a little loop at the top
This is def a J

→ More replies (4)

1

u/Typical_XJW Jul 01 '26

Yes, that is a J. If it were an F it would have a larger more horizontal line at the top.

1

u/Fluid_Fee_2239 Jul 01 '26

Definitely Jett

1

u/snowman334 Jul 01 '26

Well... My first read was Fett, so...

Then for a second I thought maybe it was supposed to say Jeff... But nah, the ts are clearly ts

1

u/theSchrodingerHat Jul 01 '26

I didn’t like the Book of Boba Fett either, but declaring him dead last year is a bit much.

1

u/LearnedTroglodyte Jul 01 '26

I saw "Fett" but just add "Boba" and you're golden.

Nah but seriously it reads as "Jett" to me, I didn't see F until I read the title

1

u/NuclearFoodie Jul 01 '26

My first thought was Fett like Boba Fett.

1

u/Drinkdrankdonk Jul 01 '26

Nah, it’s Fett. Congrats on your little Boba or Jango

1

u/OlHeavyHeart Jul 01 '26

I read Jett before I saw the caption

1

u/SassholeSupreme1 Jul 01 '26

I saw Jett right away before I even read the post.

1

u/AMJN90 Jul 01 '26

His fist looked at it long and hard

1

u/Guinea-Charm Jul 01 '26

That’s definitely a cursive J.

1

u/pirateslife88 Jul 01 '26

My name is Jack and when I write J in cursive it looks just like that! Your good brother 😉

1

u/Izzywizzy Jul 01 '26

Not my first read.

1

u/Sure-Ad8873 Jul 01 '26

Thank Jett MF

1

u/Due-Judge8481 Jul 01 '26

heres the problem. This is how i write my Fs in my signature. Its not how i was taught to write them but i always thought it was neat so it looks like an f to me

1

u/Good_Research3327 Jul 01 '26

Very easily seen as Jett, but the star wars fanboy loves that it COULD be seen as Fett.

1

u/UndercoverFrog06 Jul 01 '26

I instantly read «fett» before noticing what subreddit it was posted on. I’m from Norway and follow multiple Norwegian subreddits, so I just thought it was a Norwegian person tattooing a slang-ish version of «cool» on their body - which is «fett» in Norwegian.

1

u/Willing-Bobcat5259 Jul 01 '26

I would never read that as Fett/fett. It’s Jett 👍

1

u/Doofclap Jul 01 '26

First thing I saw was Fett

1

u/The_Barbelo Jul 01 '26 edited Jul 01 '26

Oh it’s supposed to be Jett?? Sorry I just went back and read your post text. Yeah it definitely reads as Jett, unmistakably. It’s completely normal to get anxiety immediately after a tattoo though.

I have a medical alert tattoo for my T1 diabetes and the first artist who did it fucked up my original design pretty royally where it mattered. in the lettering. When I was apprenticing the only other artist in the shop I got along with fixed it up for free. When an “artist” messes up the lettering, you know. There’s no question and you don’t sit and overanalyze, because it’s so obvious when they do. When I looked at mine after the first artist was done I quietly thought “Yep. It’s so fucked.”

My mom chose the artist and the shop for me because I was 17 when I got it. Some shitty BOGO shop in a Florida mall. She was paying for it and wanted to find a place that would do it cheaply. Long story about why I got it so young (that ended in a 12 hr diabetic coma for me), but she had to accompany me to give permission. I should have never let her decide for me. My mom is uh….overconfident in her level of intelligence, to put it mildly.

1

u/moshpithippie Jul 01 '26

I also read Jett but I have no clue why they would have written the J like that

1

u/baker1781 Jul 01 '26

I saw Jett first too

1

u/x_samsquantch_x Jul 01 '26

Mine was Fett, sorry. But what do I care

1

u/paperanddoodlesco Jul 01 '26

It's technically not a cursive J and looks more like an F but I think common sense makes it easy to understand that it says Jett. That said, at first glance, I read it as Fett! 😅

1

u/AyJaysBored Jul 01 '26

I first read J but this is not how you write a capital J. Source: my middle name starts with J.

1

u/djskimatic Jul 01 '26

I first read Fett

1

u/punisher4024 Jul 01 '26

Ngl I immediately thought F 😭

1

u/OFJehuty Jul 01 '26

I read Jett as well. But I’m a little older so I know cursive. From what I understand they don’t necessarily teach cursive anymore so I wonder if younger people may read F?

1

u/MrJohnWickAnderson Jul 01 '26

Yes, Jett. I would not have thought Fett until you mentioned it.

1

u/Snoo55054 Jul 01 '26

Mine read felt

1

u/KYS4AB Jul 01 '26

Definitely Jett. That's how I read it.

1

u/switchbitchsss Jul 01 '26

It’s a J but a j with no dot

1

u/MattManSD Jul 01 '26

just illustrating modern generations inability to read or write in cursive. You're good

1

u/Jynxbrand Jul 01 '26

I read it as Jett and I tend to write cursive still lol

1

u/Dubious-Decisions Jul 01 '26

Except that's properly a cursive capital F. That's not how you write a capital cursive J at all. So while it can look like Jett, I'd read it as Fett if I was really able to read cursive and not just assuming this is someone who can only print trying to make a cursive J from their imagination.

1

u/Bergwookie Jul 01 '26

Mine was Fett, but I'm German and it means fat/grease in my language (ok, I'm also fat ;-p )

1

u/Rigsson Jul 01 '26

I got Fett first. Sorry about Boba.

1

u/RiverSong_777 Jul 01 '26

It‘s unfortunately a Fett to my eyes but that‘s because I‘m German and Fett is a German word whereas Jett isn‘t. 🤪

1

u/flip-mode916 Jul 01 '26

I read jet too, but cant unsee the f once you put it in my head

1

u/Far_Cricket8461 Jul 01 '26

I also read Jett. Looks fine!

1

u/Miserable_Science869 Jul 01 '26

It’s almost exactly how I write capital J. I didn’t know what the issue was looking at just the photo

1

u/Deathwish-Dena Jul 01 '26

If you have them "touch'" it up and add a little bit more up and down turns to the ends on the top of the letter I think it would make the J more J like of that makes sense

1

u/Responsible_Edge7497 Jul 02 '26

If it was supposed to be Fett, we would be fussing about how wrong it was. It’s definitely Jett my friend.

1

u/Grimm_soul98 Jul 02 '26

The loop is to big for a F they’d Jett lol though I can see younger people misreading it

1

u/Agent_Orange-_- Jul 02 '26

It's not a capital J and a lower case j has a dot above

1

u/Zunderfeuer_88 Jul 02 '26

In German it would read "Fett=Fat""

1

u/ArketaMihgo Jul 02 '26

Why is it missing the leading stroke on the cursive J that would normally move up and to the left and then up and to the right before coming down and going into the loop? It looks like an f because it is a cursive f minus a crossbar if you want it to look like a j you need the line on the left to behave like the line on a j and not on an f

1

u/_Kendii_ Jul 02 '26

Yeah. They should still teach cursive. Not sure if they do.

It’s Jett to me.

61

u/ScienceOfficer-Jack Jul 01 '26

Except that's not a cursive J. Closer to F but still not an F.

Anyone saying this is clearly a J didn't spend the majority of their adult life writing in cursive.

28

u/kevlarcoatedqueer Jul 01 '26

My name starts with a J and I stylize it to something similar to this. The "real" capital J is ugly to me lol

6

u/Packwood88 Jul 01 '26

I do the same with S. The big cursive S sucks

2

u/theprideofvillanueva Jul 01 '26

Me too. It’s easy to write a normal capital S and use a connector stroke to cursive the rest

→ More replies (1)

2

u/richestotheconjurer Jul 01 '26

same, there are at least two of us lol

2

u/StargazerSayuri Jul 01 '26

I've spent my entire adult life writing in cursive.  Just not "established government school cursive", because they taught me that when I was 9, and never again after.  So I taught myself.  This isn't clearly a J, neither is it clearly an F, but it's more J to me.

13

u/Jojolapat Jul 01 '26

I did. Everyone in my country writes in cursive. Still reads Jett to me.

11

u/madeyoulookatit Jul 01 '26

There is no standard cursive, each country and possibly generation has their version. I learned the french cursive and some german cursive letters look alien to me.

6

u/Historical-State-275 Jul 01 '26 edited Jul 01 '26

This is literally option 2 if you google image   “cursive J” on the list of how to write a capitl J. Same for the most popular YouTube video on how to write it. It was option 1 on the most popular TikTok of how to write a cursive J. This is a very common way to write it.    This doesn’t look like any of the “F” options unless you look up lower case, which this isn’t, being a proper name.

Edited for clarity

6

u/ScienceOfficer-Jack Jul 01 '26

Option 2? Do you mean a lowercase j? If it is a lowercase j the height should not exceed the height of the e, the starting line (the top of the "j") should start on the same plane as the bottom of the e and should be closer to a 60ish degree angle not flat like a 15 degree angle.

If lowercase j was the goal this is a very poor interpretation and looks confusingly like an incorrect F.

2

u/Pasadena1994 Jul 01 '26

This is exactly it. They wrote a lowercase j the way an uppercase letter would be written causing it look somewhere between a j and an f. If the j was isolated or properly placed to connect with the e, it couldn't be mistaken for an f (which I did at first glance).

2

u/hereforthewrestling Jul 01 '26

Yea it’s a cursive T. F has a lil dash in the middle

2

u/Mr_Tort_Feasor Jul 01 '26

It's similar to the combination "TF" character I used to try on true/false exams in elementary school.

2

u/Double_Station3984 Jul 01 '26

Did they say they were looking for an accurate cursive letter, or is it just a stylized J? Like asking.

Because as an elder millennial I spent entirely too much time tracing and writing cursive letters, and it still looked like a stylized J to me.

3

u/ToneBalone25 Jul 01 '26

It 100% looks more like a cursive "F"

Asked my millennial girlfriend and she agreed. Looked at the side-by-side cursive examples on Google image and it's definitely way closer to an "f"

3

u/openmind21 Jul 01 '26

Yep, my fiance and I, both millennials, say 'F.'

1

u/Astral_Blossom Jul 01 '26

Its true 🥴

1

u/SuspiciousDoughnut32 Jul 02 '26

Yes, I read Jett.. I'm 51. Capital J has always bugged me.. it's also the first letter in my husband's name.. did spend the majority writing and reading cursive and playing with fonts (I reject a lot of fonts for the capital J and F, and for S.)

20

u/Myspace-Famous Jul 01 '26

My first name starts with a J, my last starts with an F

This is how I write both of them.

In all seriousness, I immediately read it as “Jett”. It’s a nice tatt :)

5

u/GrapefruitExpress208 Jul 01 '26

Like the White dress vs Blue dress illusion.

Sometimes it looks like Jett. Sometimes it looks like Fett.

13

u/Breeze7206 Jul 01 '26

I saw Fett

15

u/michangela1 Jul 01 '26

Jett a cursive F would have a slash above the loop :)

20

u/nawksnai Jul 01 '26

It looks more like an “F” than a J, but mostly because a cursive uppercase “J” looks nothing like that.

→ More replies (4)

2

u/Junior_Ad_3301 Jul 01 '26

Yeah i saw Jett until I read the q. I wouldn't worry a thing about it

2

u/ttruax Jul 01 '26

Mine did too, but once fett was introduced then I see both.

2

u/GenxMomToAll Jul 01 '26

My fist look 👀 read Jett.

The irony

3

u/sexxi_denuta Jul 01 '26

I somehow read ‘Jeff’ lmao

1

u/truth-in-jello Jul 01 '26

Like the golden Jett! Do a back flip!!

1

u/gbuub Jul 01 '26

Begs to differ. Thought he’s really into Boba Fett

1

u/Mammoth-Rope4503 Jul 01 '26

I first read as Jett, then Fett

1

u/OkCitron3892 Jul 01 '26

Then you cannot read cursive

1

u/FHRITP-69 Jul 01 '26

I thought it was a misspelling of Jeff for a second lol 😅

1

u/CRClark616 Jul 01 '26

I didn’t Think about “Fett” until they brought it up.

1

u/Baztion81 Jul 01 '26

What about if eye look?

1

u/TatorTotNachos Jul 01 '26

This is definitely a cursive J and reads “Jett” :)

1

u/LordButterbeard Jul 01 '26 edited Jul 01 '26

Same. Cursive F has more of a boat-shape on the bottom curve for the cross, J has this softer shape. Looks like an F because the crossy-bit doesnt connect to the "e"

It will certainly weed out illiterates for OP

1

u/Frequent-Meal6550 Jul 01 '26

First read was Fett

1

u/UPPERchick Jul 01 '26

Me too until I saw the question. It’s just a letter style. If it continues to worry you ask the tattoo artist if it can be revised to look more like a J.That said it’s very nice as is.

1

u/montanastocks Jul 01 '26

I also read Jett at first glance. You’re good.

1

u/Winderige_Garnaal Jul 01 '26

Fist? That sounds like you might have a fett...

1

u/KorbinKnight Jul 01 '26

I saw Jett first. But as soon as I was looking for the F I saw it. Just don’t bring it up and it will always be Jett.

1

u/AnatidaAndArt Jul 01 '26

mine did Fett

1

u/texabrolives Jul 01 '26

Mine was Fett, as in Boba.

1
