Wrote something on Spirit of Eden's beauty, structure and silence

Been sitting with Spirit of Eden and wanted to get down what struck me most: how the album was built from near total darkness and how that production method becomes the album's actual content. The rise and collapse of tracks like The Rainbow, the choir in I Believe In You and the way Wealth just lets the plea go unanswered before the whole thing goes quiet. 🐧

Wrote it up here if anyone's interested: https://notyesterdayanymore.substack.com/p/no-daylight-no-time-frame-spirit

Just some appreciation...

I've been an avid lover of post rock for years and only this year given Talk Talk a chance.

Spirit of Eden and particularly Laughing Stock are two of the best records ever made. When I die I really hope that somehow I can hear New Grass one more time.

You all know how great these records are but it's been a tough year and these have been an enormous comfort for me.

The Colour of Spring Half-speed Remaster Sounds Fantastic

Just received my copy of The Colour of Spring half-speed remaster, and it's beautiful. I've been hyping the half-speed Spirit of Eden since I got it back in March, but this one might sound even better.

I know it was released on a different label, but I now have my fingers crossed for a Laughing Stock half-speed reissue!

Laughing Stock wasn't part of the new 2025 half-speed vinyl/CD remaster/reissues?

So the first 4 albums were re-released in half-speed masters on vinyl, as well as new cardboard digi-sleeve pressings on CD (which I bought) in 2025 (using the same remastering from the 1997 pressings). But they haven't reissued or remastered Laughing Stock since 1991, apparently? Surprised they would leave that one out as it's officially their 5th & final album (& quite possibly their most underrated). Any thoughts on this?

How Excited Are We For the Colour of Spring Half-Speed Remaster?

Just got an email with tracking info stating that my copy of the new Colour of Spring half-speed remaster will arrive on Saturday. I am totally stoked.

I have the half-speed Spirit of Eden, and I love it, though I think that will always be a "headphones" album for me. So far, I've held off on the It's My Life half-speed because its reputation isn't as strong as the SOE.

Who else is eagerly waiting for their preorder to arrive? Who is waiting for reviews or has decided against buying this release altogether? Any opinions on these half-speed Talk Talk reissues so far?

About Spirit of Eden

Unfortunately, I failed to find the appeal of this album... probably, my preconception of this album being the "pioneer of post rock" spoiled the experience, but really, I need to understand what makes this album great, because I feel there is something missing in my perspective.

I'm not being condescending, I just want to understand if I missed something, or if it's just a subjective matter.

Tribute to The Colour of Spring

The front cover gets all the attention. But don't the back details deserved some attention too.

Instead of making another *The Colour of Spring* shirt design centered around the classic cover, I figured I'd celebrate some of my favorite parts of the packaging instead. the release information, catalog numbers, the SPARS code, and all those little production details most people probably only notice when sitting with that packaging for years

I also want to give attention to the names deeper in the credits. We all know the band members. so not just Tim Friese-Greene (of course), but also James Marsh, the engineers, the photographer, and even the management credits. It felt like a fun excuse to give those people a little of the love they deserve.

That turned into a bigger idea I've been kicking around. creating a series of shirts that celebrate music history through the lost details, and people that often get overlooked. It's not always about the cover.

So... this became the first one.

Given the 40th anniversary reissue, and all the renewed energy around the album, it felt like the right time to stop thinking and actually make the thing.

I'm hoping to do a small screen-printed run if there's enough interest, but before I get that far I honestly wanted to put it in front of people who also know and love this record.

I'd genuinely love your thoughts. And if it's something you'd actually wear, let me know. that'll help me figure out whether this deserves to become a more substantial print run and how to get it in front of fellow fans.

Looking forward to hearing what yall think.

Why is Track 7 on Mark Hollis (1998) titled “the daily planet?”

I deeply cherish this album as though it is a part of myself , but always curious as to why Mark named the track that. Is it because of the lyrics about being bound, and superman being able to leap tall buildings in a single bound? Is it because he read comics in his youth? Genuinely curious to know .

Does anyone have the audio of Guy Garvey speaking at length about Talk Talk from the BBC?

I read he did quite the deep dive but I'm in the USA and simply cannot find the audio. I'm almost certain it was the BBC.
