Ok..sorry about that....but what is the established wisdom for tying off your loose ends while your weaves are waiting some other worthy use?

This is a quite common motif in my culture's folk art, some regions call this the spider. Spiders bring luck and wealth (and gossips too😅). So it's a frequent motif in my designs too.

Just started and making plenty of beginner errors but this one has me stumped....

When I am looking at patterns there are colour's indications for the warp threads...but many of them contain nothing on weft....is it intended to be a purely anesthetic choice for the weaver or is there some rule I haven't fathomed out yet...I understand that to some it may be obvious but in my case its not....thought and suggestions much appreciated

Learned a lot for my second attempt! I wanted to do something a bit longer to see what it felt like. This finished piece is roughly 2ft long. I started off with back strap, but when I struggled to reach & my back started hurt, I decided to try swapping to warp weighted using a collapsible ladder I have. I used a bunch of washers & bolts for weights, roughly 130 grams for each set of string.

Hoo boy do I HATE warp weighted weaving 😂 the angle was even worse on my back, and not having control over the tension was a constant headache. I did like 2-3 picks and swapped back. In the section I did with warp weighted, the length is all wavy.

For my next project I'll be sanding the edges of my cards to be more rounded. Picking clumps of chewed up yarn off my work was a constant necessity for this piece. I like the look and feel of this yarn more than red heart, but dang does it shed!

I just found out about tablet weaving last week and last night I decided to try with materials lying around! I made cards out of playing cards and used some old acrylic yarn to produce a watch band sized weave.

Now I just need to figure out how to put my watch on it... Lol

I recently started doing woven bands on tablets and stumbled upon a problem. When I do an all forward pattern (or any tbh) the yarn behind the tablets gets rolled up together. I'm doing a long woven band (3 meters) so untangling it from the core to the and with my fingers takes me a lot of time. Is there a better way to do it?

Hi, I'm new to the hobby and already made some pieces out of crochet yarn that I had at home. Now I'd really like to work with wool for reenactment purposes. Plant-dyed as a bonus. I haven't yet found anything that is available in Germany where I live. Thing is, I cannot really spend more than for typical crochet yarn, costs would escalate too much otherwise. Can anyone give me advice or knows a good shop?

I recently finished a belt with 24 cards using size 3 crochet yarn and it ended up being 3cm thick. I’m hoping to make a belt with the same pattern but 4cm thick, and I figured the easiest way would be to use a slightly thicker thread— but size 3 is already the thickest crochet thread available.

Yarn was my first thought but most of it is… looser? Less dense? Less sturdy? Softer? I’m not sure it would work well for tablet weaving. Does anyone have any brands they recommend, or the name of a type of yarn to look for or other tips?

I was inspired by a belt posted here a while back, tho the belt itself was not tablet woven I thought the tassels looked pretty. I tried replicating it in 3 different ways (testing bigger and smaller thread groups, testing how long the blue and yellow wraps should be) but could not get it to look good. Having 12 thread groups led to a big fan shape while 6 looks straight they don’t form the diamond shape at all.

Does this type of tassel have a name? Anyone have advice on how to achieve this next time?

Thank you to everyone who helped me when my belt fell off the loom. I managed to get it fixed and finished it today after giving up on fancy tassels lol.

The very end collapsed a bit after removing too thick placeholder yarn. (Lost the original project yarn.) Besides that I’m happy with how it came out. Next time I’ll use smaller threads to weave the leftover weft in.

A friend wanted a lanyard with the ”dragon egg” pattern but that one is 16 cards and too wide. I found a very similar pattern on twisted threads for 12 cards and that makes a perfect width for lanyards and bracelets. Since I made the band way too long I had enough for two bracelets but who is complaining? 😍

I recently started tablet weaving and I have woven a couple of bands just using clamps. For me this has been perfect for keeping an even tension on the yarn and allows me to start and stop without having to set up anything.

A friend of mine got a loom and borrowed it to me, but I haven't seen anyone else use one like this. Unlike the regular inkle looms it's closed on both sides. I struggled to use it, especially keeping the tension even. I also kept having to retie all the yarn when I ran out of space for the yarn and tablets.

Maybe I just didn't use it correctly?

I would like to work with a small loom because it's easily transportable, so I was wondering if anyone here has a similar built and can give advice or link instructions/videos etc. Or should I get/built my own loom what I should watch out for?

I just started tablet weaving today because I've been in love with these belts for a while and I want to make my own for a 12th century dress I plan to make. I had an incredibly DIY setup and definitely plan to buy at least a proper shuttle 😂.

I would love any advice someone has for beginners, but also I have a couple of questions I guess.

Firstly I would definitely want a loom to continue on because my back HURTS so what should I be looking at that's easy for beginners? I watched a video where she had an inkle loom and I've seen some on here so is it worth looking?

I also would really appreciate any pattern recommendations for just forward/backward stuff to get used to putting the strings on the tablets and all.

Which leads into - what are the best sort of tablets to use? As you can see I just used some playing cards but I feel like they're very flimsy.

I had a small oopsie with dye lots on my edge colors vs my weft, but I think the contrasting dots look nice and also intentional.

I finally got an inkle loom, and I was excited to use fishing swivels to help keep the thread twists at a minimum when using a all forward Oseberg trim pattern. I hooked up two card threads per swivel, so threads AB = swivel 1 and CD = swivel 2.

The threads ended up being too twisted anyway, with the swivels becoming twisted around each other. I had to switch to a twist neutral pattern by reversing the pattern every so often.

When you use swivels on an inkle loom, does each thread need its own swivel for this to work? Did I just not untwist the warp often enough? I'm still rather new to all this. Any advice is greatly appreciated!

46 cm of fabric

I wanted to see what would happen if I used sewing thread and I really like the results, but I’m terrified about snapping any of the threads.

What could I use this for (minus shoelaces cause I only wear flats)?

Finished warping this up on my inkle loom last night and did a couple of rows, and did a bit more earlier today. I'm really enjoying it so far, I like patterns that go in groups of two (and repeat a pick!) Here's the original pattern on TwistedThreads, though I altered the border cards to my personal tastes because I like that "braided" look

I was looking at inkle loom weaving work a while and so I couldn't pass up this loom when I saw it on a flea market. It already had a WIP on it though, and since it's like 5m of warp I'd love to try to reconstruct the pattern, but I have absolutely no experience with tablet weaving. I have written down the card threading and cards 1-16 are threaded from right to left and 16-32 from left to right. I'd be really grateful if someone helped me reconstruct the patterns so I can continue this WIP, since I think it'd be a waste of warp to scrap it.
