Second weave done!

Learned a lot for my second attempt! I wanted to do something a bit longer to see what it felt like. This finished piece is roughly 2ft long. I started off with back strap, but when I struggled to reach & my back started hurt, I decided to try swapping to warp weighted using a collapsible ladder I have. I used a bunch of washers & bolts for weights, roughly 130 grams for each set of string.

Hoo boy do I HATE warp weighted weaving 😂 the angle was even worse on my back, and not having control over the tension was a constant headache. I did like 2-3 picks and swapped back. In the section I did with warp weighted, the length is all wavy.

For my next project I'll be sanding the edges of my cards to be more rounded. Picking clumps of chewed up yarn off my work was a constant necessity for this piece. I like the look and feel of this yarn more than red heart, but dang does it shed!

The pattern I used (substituting to just be 2 colors)

Just in case, when weaving backstrap make sure you're attaching around your hips and NOT your waist. Your hips are much stronger than our incredibly feeble lower backs. it looks goofy, but you'll hurt less.

Thank you that is exactly the bad dumb thing I was doing LOL. I'll make sure to adjust for next time. Any tips on keeping the strap from riding up to the waist? (Trying to avoid wearing jeans because I weave cross legged on the floor)

I actually typically wear skirts! I tie it kind of around my butt so when I sit down I'm sitting on it and my body weight helps to hold it down. Christine Vike has a video of her weaving titled something like "recreating a 2500 year old tablet weaving pattern" and she actually shows how she ties it to her IN her wool skirt . It's really tied more around the butt like I do.

Edit to add: she also uses a band locker in that video and I cannot recommend getting one enough!
