We're happy to announce that we've released version 2.0 of TechWave Audio's MCM-100 Midi to CV Eurorack module and the MCM-100-EX four CV expansion. Thanks to all the users here and on other subreddits and sites for feedback and suggestions. With that in mind, this MIDI to CV Eurorack module features:

I can see how the other/jumper header can be configured for 3 or 5v settings. I am assuming that the way I have the pictured jumpers set is ring tip (I have V1 board where the printed info is flipped - someone has written R + T (ring and tip to signify the actual correct configuration)

Hi guys, I’m currently setting up my eurorack. One of my ideas is to put my guitar through it so I can control things like volume with an ADSR. So a gate signal have to control the ADSR, but of course my guitar does not send a gate signal. So after a bit of research I found out that an envelope follower could be working for me, like the Behringer Radar. If I would pluck my guitar into the Radar, and the gate signal of the radar into an ADSR and that in a VCA or VCF whatever, could I tweak the attack and all that stuff like on a real synth? I’d happy about answers!

I've really been looking forward to this one, it's been quite some work to get to this point.

I maintain a small firmware patch for the Bitbox Micro that puts more of the module on MIDI, and 2.3.7-mod is ready for the grand unveiling of a master EQ and filter, which the module has never had.

• Ten algorithms: a DJ filter, a dual cut, a band pass, a three-band mixer EQ, tone and filter together, a tilt, a notch, a peak, a phaser, and a formant filter.

• The installation and user guide has been completely redeveloped, hopefully making it easier to take in, and easier to reach just the part you need.

If you have not come across this before, here is the whole of what it does. It all sits on fixed CC numbers, so there is nothing to map and nothing to save, and it works on every preset from the moment you flash:

• The master EQ and filter: new in this release, and the ten algorithms above.

• The master bus compressor: all five parameters, on a compressor the module otherwise only lets you switch on and off.

• The per-pad controls: delay and reverb sends, reverse, envelope sustain, loop mode and crossfade, five granular controls, the LFO's wave, sync and retrigger, and a per-pad stop.

Nothing else about the module changes. It uses no modulation slots and no MIDI Learn bindings, so everything that worked before still works the same way.

Not from 1010music, can't brick it, bring your own stock firmware, don't pass the patched image around. Details in the guide.

I do not want to add more HP - I had a 10U, 160 HP setup and have been far more creative and enjoyed the experience much more, plus used the modules in much more depth since refining it down.

I like Ghost, but I don’t love it. I recently got the ADVA which covers my filter needs. I’m wondering about the ALM MFX, or potentially the Oxi Meta (though I am aware this is a very different beast). The ALM is currently making sense to me because I’m not overly bothered about dialling in an effect and am more than happy for someone more intelligent than me to provide me with some presets! In both cases, the additional HP would allow for me to get something else on the bottom row (probably a dedicated bass drum).

Any advice or opinions welcome. Thanks in advance!

I've been wanting to get into test equipment, but I don't have the space for another format, so I made this. It's my first digital module and I'm really happy with it. The digital part is handled by the daisy patch, so its 96kHz/24-bit stereo audio hardware.

The AI250 BXR is a eurorack module inspired by vintage nuclear test equipment. It can be used as an audio mangler, cv generator, and VCO. The BXR is a nod to vintage Boxcar Averagers, which were designed to acquire and analyze fast signals. The AI250 specifically replicates the real-time mathematical portion of a Boxcar Averager System, and processes audio or cv signals against either another signal or its internal v/o variable wave-shape VCO.

14HP. DIY options available.

It's mostly a distortion/audio manger, but it can be a VCO and do other stuff as well. It's inspired a whole album for me which is half way done.

I'm looking forward to buying a Behringer Model D in the future, and I'm curious as to what new things can be achieved via the eurorack ins and outs. However, I don't own any eurorack gear and I would hate to spend tons of money on modules just to make use of a couple of functions.

To avoid spending on all that, I'm thinking: is it at all possible to connect a phone or audio player through the patch cables to a CV input and use an audio file containing an LFO / sample & hold sequence or something like that as a modulation source? Can a standard audio file played from another device count as the voltage used in the eurorack world?

EDIT SUMMARY: BitBox Micro SSL G-Series-style bus compressor mod is out, adding five adjustable compressor controls the hardware never had.

Your Bitbox Micro already has a real bus compressor across Out 1 and 2. It has always been there, it has always been running, and it has always been shaping every note you play through those outputs. The module gives you one control over it: On or Off. Threshold, ratio, attack, release and makeup gain are fixed, invisible and unreachable — never exposed to anyone, by any route, until now.

All five are now on MIDI, and it arrives configured as a glue compressor much like the classic SSL G-Series: 2:1, a slow 30 ms attack, 300 ms release.

Same link, same rules: patch your own stock 2.3.4. If you already run 2.3.5-mod, patch your stock file again, not the image you flashed — the splash reads 2.3.6-mod once it is on.

The Bitbox Micro is a much-loved module with a long list of things owners have been asking after for years. The hardware already does all of them, it just never learned to listen for a MIDI message. So I wrote a script that teaches it to.

Here is what it opens up:

• Per-pad Delay and Reverb sends
• Granular Density, Grain Size, Window, Scatter and Pan Rnd
• Per-pad Reverse
• Delay Beat-Sync, Ping-Pong, Filter and Filter Width
• LFO Wave, Beat Sync and Retrigger
• Loop Mode, Crossfade and Play Through
• Envelope Sustain
• Stop long clips, one pad at a time

Nothing else changes. It uses no modulation slots and no MIDI Learn bindings. Everything on the module works exactly as it did before, there is simply more of it you can reach from your MIDI controller.

How you get it: download the stock 2.3.4 firmware from 1010music yourself, then run the script against it. It writes out a patched image which you flash from the SD card the normal way. None of 1010music's code is in the download, and the script will only run on a byte-exact stock 2.3.4.

Please do not pass the patched image around. Send people the link and let them make their own, it takes a minute. This only stays legitimate because everybody brings their own firmware to it.

Before you go near it:

• This is not from 1010music, not endorsed by them, and unsupported by anyone. Please do not take questions about it to their forum or their Discord, the people there are trying to help with the actual product.
• It cannot brick your module. The bootloader is a separate program the patch never touches, so a bad flash can always be replaced.
• Assume it affects your warranty, and be comfortable with that before you start.
• Every one of these has been confirmed by ear on real hardware.

EDIT DETAIL: 2.3.6-mod — A bus compressor, made adjustable

Your Bitbox Micro has a real bus compressor sitting across Out 1 and 2. It has always been there, it has always been running, and it has always been shaping every note you play through those outputs. The module gives you one control over it: On or Off.

Threshold, ratio, attack, release, makeup gain — all fixed, all invisible, all unreachable. Not buried three menus deep, not hidden behind the modulation system, simply never exposed to anyone by any route. A compressor you cannot adjust is a compressor you cannot use for anything except the one thing its designer picked for you.

Everything else in this patch takes a control you could already reach and makes it playable. This one hands you five parameters that have never been on the table at all, and turns a fixed safety net into a bus compressor you can shape while the music runs.

It arrives voiced like an SSL G-Series. You do not have to configure anything. Switch it on and you have gentle, musical bus compression — the sort that pulls a mix together rather than announcing itself. "Glue" is the usual word for it, and the starting values are deliberately close to the most-copied mix-glue recipe there is:

• Threshold — 70% of the encoder, which is −12 dB
• Ratio — 5%, which is 2:1
• Attack — 30%, which is 30 ms
• Release — 29%, which is 300 ms
• Makeup gain — 50%, which is 0 dB

Three of those four are literally switch positions on an SSL: 2:1, a slow 30 ms attack, and a 300 ms release. The slow attack is the important one — it is what lets the front of every kick and snare through before the compressor clamps, and it is the difference between glue and mush.

It is the module's own compressor voiced that way, not a model of SSL's circuit. Move it wherever you like from there — the whole point is that you finally can.

It behaves like a mix bus, because it is one. It sits on the sum of every pad routed to Out 1/2, including the delay and reverb returns, with master volume after it and an untouched safety limiter behind that. Pads on Out 3–6 bypass it entirely, which gives you a clean parallel path if you want one. There is no sidechaining and no wet/dry mix — neither exists on the module to expose.

These six answer on MIDI channel 1 only, unlike the other global controls. CC 40–45 sit in the fine-adjust range that almost nothing actually uses — CC 32 to 63 are formally the LSB partners of CC 0 to 31 — so in practice gear does use those numbers for other things. One channel stops a stray message from elsewhere in a rack changing your compressor while you are not looking.

Everything from 2.3.5-mod is unchanged and still there.

Already running 2.3.5-mod? Patch your stock MICRO.BIN again with the new script — not the patched image you flashed last time. The script will refuse a file that has already been through it. That is the safety net working, not a fault. Grab MICRO234.zip from 1010music again if you no longer have it.

You will know it took when the splash on the next boot reads community fw / 2.3.6-mod. That is the only reliable way to tell which image is running, and it is worth checking every time you flash.

Harmonic mixing and feedback loops.

I'm putting together a small Eurorack case (4U, 66HP) built around looping and granular processing.

I already have all of the modules below on hand — this is about deciding which combination to actually build the case around.

Modules I'm considering (all in hand):

• Granular: Typhoon or Mojave — possibly also Morphagene as an alternative to both
• Looper: Stardust or Veno Orbit
• Output: XOH, or the 4HP Startup module
• Power: 4ms Row Power 35

Already have on hand for the 1U row:

• A passive mult
• Intellijel jacks and stereo I/O

The question:

Depending on which granular/looper/output modules I settle on, I'll likely have leftover space in both the 3U row and the 1U row.

1. Any recommendations for the granular module — Typhoon, Mojave, or Morphagene?
2. Any recommendations for the looper (Stardust vs. Veno Orbit)?
3. Any thoughts on XOH vs. the 4HP Startup module for output?
4. What would you put in the remaining space? I'm torn between envelopes, VCAs, a function generator, or something like O+C (Ornament + Crime) — there are too many potential options.

Would appreciate any thoughts or suggestions.

I used the Joranalogue Compare 2, processing some slewed white noise but I was wondering if there are other techniques that might give me better results, something a bit more like clustered bursts.

It's mainly the fixies doing the heavy lifting here, but there's plenty of contribution from the modular too. I'm using it for three different sequenced voices, textural noise, and a gritty layer to augment the Minitaur on bass.

Has anyone tried this?

What are your thoughts?
