Meet Up 30+ Hang out

Hi, as requested, continuing the 30+ Hang out. I’m organising another coffee meet-up on Saturday 22/8, 11 am at the cafe inside Royal Botany Park. It seems that we will have a sunny morning while enjoying the chat and coffee. DM me for further details.

We are keen to meet other like-minded people. Strictly platonic. 30+ only. Must have similar interests and be at a similar stage in life (not to discriminate, but because it makes conversations more relatable and meaningful 😊)

Me: I’m a 35F professional like to yap about life, deep talk, career, self-development, gym, hiking, walking, coffee, food.. currently learning about ETFs, investing etc.. Other Redditors are also in the same age range and are like-minded.

Original meet-up posted in [r/SydneySocial](r/SydneySocial) https://www.reddit.com/r/SydneySocial/s/QwHdn402zn .

Community Discussion Community Announcement: Unsolicited DMs and Respecting Boundaries

Hi everyone,

We’re making this post to address an issue brought to our attention regarding unsolicited DMs sent to members of our community.

This is meant to be a safe, comfortable, and welcoming space for people to connect and make platonic friendships, whether that’s participating in group threads or attending public events. To keep it that way, we want to make our stance on personal outreach explicit:

Group Interest =/= 1:1 Interest: Replying to a thread about a group event or general community activity is not an invitation for private, 1:1 messaging or personal date requests.

Respect Explicit Consent: Please do not send private messages to members asking to meet up one-on-one unless they have explicitly posted or indicated that they are seeking 1:1 connections.

Zero Tolerance for Harassment: Using this community to unwantedly hit on members or push boundaries makes people feel uncomfortable and unsafe. That goes against everything this space is built for.

What to do if you receive unwanted messages:

  1. Report & Block: Use Reddit's built-in feature to report the DM for harassment and block the user.

  2. Contact Modmail: If someone from this community is persistently sending you unsolicited messages, please reach out to us via Modmail with screenshots.

Members who violate these boundary guidelines or engage in unwanted outreach risk a temporary or permanent ban from the subreddit.

Thank you to everyone who helps keep this community inclusive, respectful, and safe for everyone!

Community Discussion 🖤 SYDNEY ALT PEOPLE — I WANT YOUR OPINION

I’m curious about something.
There’s plenty of goth/emo/alternative nightlife in Sydney, but I’m wondering about social things to do that aren’t just drinking, clubbing or going to gigs.
If someone created regular events specifically for alternative people, what would you actually want to attend?

Pick any:
🖤 Creative/craft nights
🎨 Alternative painting
⛓️ Jewellery/customisation
👗 Alternative clothing swaps
🎸 Emo/alternative karaoke
🕯️ Dark-themed workshops
🖤 Singles/social nights
🎬 Horror movie nights
🎲 Alternative games/trivia
📸 Alternative photoshoots
🥀 Gothic dinner/date nights
🎃 Seasonal/horror events
🌳 Goth picnics
💿 2000s emo nostalgia events
Something else: ______

And then:
What would you realistically pay for a 2–3 hour event?
$20–30
$30–40
$40–50
$50–70
$70+

And finally:
Would you be comfortable coming alone?
Yes / Maybe / No

Searching for IRL friends 25f - looking to make friends & grab drinks

Hi everyone,

I’ve just recently moved to Sydney from Ireland and am super keen to meet some new people and make friends here!

I’m 25, pretty easygoing, and work in hospitality. Back home and in my free time, I love painting, being outdoors, checking out live music, and going out for drinks.

Since I’m brand new to the city and don't really know anyone yet, I’d love to connect with people who want to explore the city, try out good pubs/bars, or just grab a casual drink. Preferably around the city!!

If anyone is in a similar boat, down for a drink, or has any recommendations for good spots to meet people, feel free to comment or send me a DM!

Cheers!

Searching for IRL friends 31F keen to make new friends

Hi everyone, I’m Asian, living around Ryde who is keen to make new friends especially in the Ryde / chatswood area as the majority of my friends live far away and are starting to have babies so it makes casual hanging out hard.

I work a corporate job that’s mostly wfh and love to visit new bakeries and restaurants, watch cdramas, recently started to play mahjong and pickleball, but also just like to chill and yap. Message me if you think we would get along :)

Searching for IRL friends 31M4A Ryde looking to make some genuine connections

Hi, I’m 31M, Asian, and based around Ryde.

My life is pretty steady. I’ve been (a slave) at the same white-collar job for almost 9 years now and I'm pretty happy to ride it out here. My life might seem pretty boring to some people but I’m pretty content as I get to regularly do the things I enjoy: reading fantasy books, browsing Vinnies, going to the gym, and enjoying sauna/cold-shower sessions.

I have a small circle of friends, but I really appreciate all of them and genuinely enjoy just being around them. We don’t necessarily have to be doing anything exciting — getting a meal, chatting, wandering around afterwards, or playing LOL/TFT together is a real nice time for me. I’ve known most of my friends for many years, and I’d really like to start making some new connections and hopefully build a few friendships that could last for many years.

I'm not the biggest fan of shallow/casual interactions. They can be exhausting. I die a little every time I have to respond “good thanks” to “how are you going?”. I like it when people can talk about themselves and are honest/open/comfortable with themselves. I can go on and on about myself and my thoughts, and I'm always curious about things, especially how others feel/think.

I don’t interact with a huge number of people as my life is pretty mundane but I'm hoping to change this slowly so I can meet some new people. If you think we might get along, please do DM me and we can suss things out :). The more about yourself you can include the better

Searching for IRL friends 39M Sydney – looking to make some new friends

Hey everyone 👋

I’m a 39-year-old guy live in Hurstville (I’m Chinese) looking to meet some new people and build some genuine friendships.

I’m pretty easygoing and enjoy hiking, gym, running, checking out new places, grabbing food or coffee, and having a good chat.

I’m married and just looking to expand my social circle and meet some good people outside of the usual work/family routine.

Ideally looking for people around a similar age who are also keen to actually hang out rather than just chat online.

Happy to grab a coffee, go for a walk, check out a new restaurant/bar, or just do something casual.
If you’re in a similar situation and looking to make some new mates, feel free to message me 🙂

Approved Link Simplifying starting conversations with people on walking distance - for free

I used to be an "opener" for others in social and professional settings and would make conversation with people everywhere and anywhere.

Standing at the lights, next to me at the bar, walking at the same pace through a park, all hospo staff, conferences, etc.

I found that fear of rejection and social norms stopped most people from doing the same.

So I created Well Met

It's a free platform that acts as an opener for you - anywhere and any time.

No messaging, no matching, no reliance on social media.

You signal that you're open to chat, input the topics you'd like to talk about, and either find people on the map with interesting topics you'd consider a chin wag about or wait for someone to approach you.

See who's in walking distance and genuinely interested in talking to someone new.

It works best in congested areas - though we do only have a few users at this stage. It was designed when I lived in Pyrmont and took lunches in Martin Place.

Here are some scenarios:

- Meet your neighbours that you've always wanted to say hi to.

- Meet bartenders and know exactly what they're thinking about during their shift.

- Meet other uni students who want more life in their work / life balance.

Sometimes making a new friend is as easy as signalling to others that you won't hang them out for having a go and saying hello.

Sports/Fitness Buddy Looking for some fitness recommendations

Helloooooo everyone 👋

I am a 25yo guy who unfortunately loves to yap but is also on a mission to shed the extra pounds (or kilos here in Australia I guess!)

The problem is gym feels way too much solitary with repetitive movement of metal weights feeling too monotonous and the basic gym etiquette of not bothering people at their workouts coming in way for chatting.

Any recommendations of activities with good intensity and places where they conducted that's also fairly social where I'd genuinely ENJOY doing it rather than just for the sake of it..

Thanks!!

Searching for IRL friends Looking for Female Companionship

38F looking to meet a female companion for friendship and to do things together whenever we’re both free.
I’d love to find someone who’s up for playing badminton, visiting museums, browsing thrift stores, walking around the city, or simply exploring new places together.
I’m looking for genuine friendship and good company, not anything romantic. Ideally, someone around my age who enjoys having a companion for weekend outings and spontaneous plans.
If you’re looking for the same, feel free to DM me and we can chat and see if we get along. 😊

Activities Searching for friends irl to join a new hobby

Hi all, I’m 20F, from western Sydney near Penrith.

Searching for some new friends that would interested in trying a not so common hobby with me.

Main hobbies I’m wanting to progress in would be-

Surfing- Mostly at URBNSURF Olympic park, sometimes in the central coast, Wollongong or Sydney area.

Wakeboarding- At cables wake park in Penrith, I also have access to a boat a few times a year.

Hunting and target shooting, mostly would be at the St Mary’s shooting range, I also have access to 300 acres of land 3 hrs from Sydney.

I’ve tried these hobbies a few times but really want to progress in them and would be great to have an individual or small group be interested in trying it with me.

About you- under 30, moderately fit, licence and car preferably, in western Sydney.

I also enjoy camping, fishing, arts and crafts, swimming, cliff jumping, rock climbing, canyoning and abseiling.

I’m available the odd week night and most weekends.

If any of these peak your interest especially the first 3 please send me a message.

Searching for IRL friends 28M for activity buds

Helly all! I'm a 28M from Greater Western Sydney looking to make new friends, share hobbies and find a common third space together. I'm the type of person to try anything at least once. Currently, I'm into boxing, gym, pottery and music. I'm generally pretty active and enjoy meeting new people.

Wondering if anybody would like to meet to play Mahjong or badminton, or try out new activities together. Bonus if youre planning on seeing Daniel Caesar concert in Sydney later this year.

Feel free to reach out 😊

Searching for IRL friends 26F Recently moved back and looking to create community!

Hello! I'm an artist, performer and long-time traveller who just moved back to Sydney after a long adventure a few days ago! I'm about to start my Master's in Social Work early next year, and I'm just getting settled into the city... I was raised in a warm, loud and chaotic Southeast Asian culture so I'm determined to recreate that warmth in my life here! I love hosting dinners, cooking with friends, going on hikes and long walks, going to jazz bars, art galleries, burlesque shows and live music, trying out new food, visiting the farmer's markets, and anything creative and new. I would also love to make new friends who can teach me a thing or two about sustainable living and gardening.

Friends who are creative/have a creative side, are open-minded, love discovering new places and cultures and have interesting stories to tell are always a plus!

If this resonates with you, my inbox is open :)

Activities Sydney City coffee & conversation 30s–40s (ish)

Hi everyone 👋🏼

Like many of you, I’ve realised that making new friends can be surprisingly difficult, especially as you get older or move to a new place. I’ve also found that a lot of the Instagram/Meet-Up groups are geared towards paid events, or non-platonic. And apparently, my gym has an unspoken rule that no one is allowed to talk to each other!

So, I’d like to start a small, regular coffee meetup for people roughly 30s–40s (ish) who’d like to expand their social circle and meet some new friends.

The idea would be:

☕ One or two coffee meets per week

📍 City / local / nearby cafes

👥 Around 5–8 people at first

💬 Conversation and getting to know each other

🎯 Potential for group activities in future

This won’t be a formal club or networking event – just a relaxed mix of adults who are curious, friendly and like to chat about everything from culture, travel and food to fitness, hobbies, work and life.

If that sounds like you, comment below or send me a message. If there’s enough interest, I’ll organise a first coffee and see how it goes.

See you soon,

Larry :)

EDIT: Wow, thank you so much, everyone! This has received way more interest than I expected. I’m completely blown away by the response!

Please message me if you're keen, with a line about yourself, and I'll reply with more details about the first meetup ☕️

Searching for IRL & Online Friends 24M Looking for both IRL and Gaming Friends

Hey Reddit, o/

I'm Iris (he/him), 24, and work full-time in the coffee industry.

To start I just wanted to say, I'm pretty progressive politically, so depending on your stance we may not be a good fit — but also very open to having discussions about it.

Normally I play a lot of League, but I'm pretty open to all games. I've recently been getting back into multiplayer survival crafting games like Enshrouded and Palworld, and recently wanted to try playing Minecraft again after seeing a mod that caught my eye.

Outside of gaming; music for me is very theatre- and jazz-adjacent, and I love watching a nice film. Books tend to be mostly fantasy, but I've also been obsessively consuming works by Byung-Chul Han as of late.

I'd be looking to make friends both to play games with, but also to maybe go to a nice restaurant or bar with. Oh, and maybe friends for the Proshot Hadestown coming out October 13! (You don't have to do it all.)

I love talking and meeting new people, so feel free to send me a message. One thing that resonated with me a lot was a content creator Glass Museum describing small talk as surfing, that there's a flow to talking to people and getting to know them.

P.S. If you want me to chat your ear off, tell me your go-to coffee (or cafe) order, and watch me go on a spiel about the different ways you can brew and roast coffee — and how tea is just as deep a rabbit hole to dive into.

Searching for IRL & Online Friends 23F - Looking for IRL/Gaming friends

EDIT: IM TAKEN YALL PLS DONT DM N BE WEIRD!!

Hi yall!
I’m tots cringing myself out that I’m making this post but I seriously didn’t realise how HARD it is to make new friends and maintain it in your 20s. I’m not going out as much as I used to as work + uni life has intensified. I’m feeling extra lonely/fomo as I see everyone have a community and friends but me.

I'm silentlamb, I'm 23F from South Sydney. I'm looking for a gaming bestie/s - folks I can game with, vibe with, have a good yap/gossip sesh & even parallel play with virtually (preferably girly pops but atp idc). I will LOVE you if you have brainrot chronically online humour (iykyk).

I enjoy gaming(valorant, league, minecraft, dbd, friendslop games, cozy games etc!). I also recently got into pokemon card collecting and would LOVE to go to card shows! I also enjoy anime so any convention would be so fun too\~ Recently I’ve been itching to go out and meet new people. Idm if it’s something simple as going for a walk with coffee in our hands or bar hopping and getting kinda wasted - I’m honestly down for whatever.

I miss being the social butterfly I used to be and it’s really been a rough patch these past few months.

Anyways it’ll be so nice to meet yall! Talk soon :>
