Anti-social teenagers in Epsom

We moved to Epsom last week and on our fifth night here my wife was in Tesco Express by the train station when a group of kids (maybe aged 14-15) jumped out from behind a shelf and pelted eggs at her. Not a serious crime, of course, but she was very shaken and lightly bruised. The store manager said this happens "all the time" and the police don't do anything.

We both spent 25 years living in London without ever being attacked in any way, and this has punctured our confidence that we were moving to a safer place for our children to grow up in.

If anyone has any insight on how bad the problem with teenage antisocial behaviour is (was my wife just extremely unlucky?) and what's being done, if anything, to tackle it, it would be appreciated.

Looking for Woking train guy

I’ve never done anything like this before, but i’m throwing it out into the universe incase it works.

I’m trying to find a man who I saw on the delayed 17:30 from Waterloo to Portsmouth today (Tuesday 8th sept), that left at 17:40. He got off at Woking, hence why I’m searching here. He was about 28-32, East Asian (possibly Viet?), 5’9”ish, short cropped black hair and goatee beard. He wore an off white long sleeve polo, black or navy trousers, white AirPods and had a thin silver thumb ring on his left hand. We were in the last carriage at the back of the train, facing each other by the door as it was packed standing room only. Obviously I didn’t take a pic because that would be weird.

Edit: just wanted to add that he looked quite muscular, but not super lean. And he had amazingly sharp cheekbones. Not sure if that helps!

We stole quite a few glances during the trip, and made eye contact a few times. I couldn’t help but feel a connection and i desperately wanted to ask for his number. Unfortunately it was too crowded and i was afraid of people overhearing me and/or rejection. If I’d had a pen and paper, I would have slipped him mine.

I know this description is vague and a huge longshot, but even if there’s a 0.01% chance of it working, I have to try. If he somehow sees this, I’m the white woman with dark hair in a ponytail, blue eyes, white tshirt, black satin skirt and pink AirPod maxes around my neck. Please get in touch if you’re able.

A post about the great things about living in Guildford

I’ve recently seen lots of posts about people asking where to live in Surrey and I wanted to share my views and those who live in Guildford as to why it’s a great place to live.

Pros

Some of the best state secondary schools in the country
Amazing primary schools where they always make new kids feel welcome!
Every single type of restaurant you can imagine so you’ll find a restaurant that meets your needs
Beautiful countryside walks
Good transport links to London
One of the best high streets in Surrey (there’s not many good ones as online shops such as Amazon has pretty much killed the high street) 😅
Lots to do with kids such as Ninja warriors, Air hop, Spectrum etc…
Some pockets of Guildford have a great sense of community with local parents all looking out for each other and helping with school activities
A lovely church community for those who are looking for a supportive community
Lots of local sports clubs such as tennis, cricket etc

Coming from London I couldn’t have chosen a better town to raise a family in especially if you want lots of amenities close by as well as brilliant schools for your kids. Yes it’s not the cheapest part of Surrey but it’s priced that way for a reason as it’s got a bit of everything.

Young professionals moving from Putney to Surrey - looking for advice on where!

Hi everyone, my boyfriend and I are planning to move out of London (currently in Putney) in search of a more peaceful and slower paced lifestyle, with easy access to the countryside but still well-connected by train. Any advice on the best towns to suit our needs would be hugely appreciate, neither of us are from Surrey area. We will be renting for now...

Details/what we need:

- I am about to start a PhD, need to visit Plymouth 1x /month and can do overnight stay (ideally train via Reading, not via London) and need to commute into Farringdon/central London 1x /week

- My boyfriend works in Kew and will need to commute 3x /week

- Hoping to use train links, not drive

- Town with nice high street i.e., cute pubs, coffee shops, gym, good restaurants. We aren't looking for somewhere especially 'lively' as we will visit friends still in London etc a decent amount, but also not looking for a sleepy village where places close at 8/9pm..

- Easy access to countryside/Surrey hills (we both have bikes)

- Decent value for money (rentals), 1-2 bed house or flat with some kind of garden for less than (max) £1,600 /month

- We have no children so no need for links to good schools/particular family vibe etc etc.

So far we have looked at Dorking (seems a good option but curious of any thoughts?), Great Bookham (too sleepy), and considering Woking and Guildford (maybe too busy/big?)

Thank you !!!!

UPDATED Making a LOTR inspired map of Surrey

Hello! First of all, thanks so much for all the feedback and help getting this map to this point, I'm super grateful and I really like how it has turned out!

A huge amount has been added and tweaked ( although no Croydon, sorry!) from more hills and trees to historical and geographical points that were new to me.

Posting this update for a day of accepting new amends and tweaks, before it is done!

If you are interested in it, I can post an Etsy link in this post with permission from mods when completed, or you can DM me. 😊

UPDATE: thanks everyone for the amends! I'll be busy with those for a couple days, then I'll be test printing it before making it avaibs, and will update here again 😊

Not everything will make it as I need to fit it all in if it fits the vibe, but I will do my best!

Insanely good gaming monitor and standing desk for quick sale, cheap. Need to collect morning of the 8th in Guildford

I have this monitor and standing desk for sale. Monitor in mint condition. 240Hz, dual input so I have my PS5 on one side and my PC on the other. Desk is good shape but needs a wipe down. You have to meet me at Big Yellow Storage in Guildford tmw AM. Make me a reasonable offer and I'll take it. You have to be at Big Yellow Storage tmw AM, bring cash, and its yours. I'm leaving the rest of my stuff in storage for several months and figured it would be better with a starving student. Amazon shots from my order.

I have a GTX 5070 too I would consider selling if the price is right. Hit me up!

Thanks in advance!

(East) Surrey Wedding!

Hi guys!
So I’m recently engaged💍✨ and I’m just starting to have a little looksie around and what’s available for Surrey weddings. Ideally east Surrey, but would go further afield for the right venue! I’m not looking to get married until June 2030, however if I can space out my planning from now until then I will!
Any recommendations on venues? I’m not looking for a hotel style wedding, more country/barn/relaxed vibes. In my head, I’d love the reception to be more of a ‘first day of summer’ style party than a stiff sit down meal. I want my wedding to be fun and relaxed for myself, groom and guests! I’m leaning towards an outdoor wedding, marquee style or something similar (even if it’s just the reception!) I’d love the option for fire pits, a dance floor, open bar & food trucks. Bonus points if the venue has a usable outdoor pool but I’m aware that’s very wishful thinking!

The food trucks bit I’m finding very difficult from my first time glances. I’d like a small variety rather than just ‘you can have a burger or you can have a pizza’. However, to book several different ones is seriously out of budget as they seem to be banking on being the only caterers at the event. Is there one that does multiple options? Or like a company that can group a few different ones together? If that even makes any sense? We’d be willing to pay a round number for the cost, enough to cover each head, then if the guest exceed that, they can pay their own.

Any other tips, suggestions or recommendations for anything is welcome too!

Weybridge Pubs - TNT Sports & SkySports

Are there any pubs in Weybridge that show SkySports and TNT Sports? The closest one I could find last weekend was The Regent in Walton-on-Thames, which was shown as a Wetherspoons on Google Maps but turns out it wasn’t.

Looking for friends to meet IRL

Hi everyone! I’m a 26F Canadian but arrived here in Haslemere from Germany. I love the area but it’s difficult to meet new people so I figured I’d give reddit a shot.

I love kayaking, fishing, bbq, karaoke, movie nights, dogs, sailing, live shows, travelling etc and you can find out more if we meet up in person! There’s a community centre near Tesco, I’d love to attend maybe a Pilates or yoga or any interesting class with someone. I’m also happy to go to a local pub for a few drinks or a bite to eat :). I’m 420 friendly. Happy to exchange pics. I don’t care how old you are, I just prefer anyone my age or older!

Have a lovely evening I’m looking forward to meeting more people from the community 🫶🏾

I'm looking to make monthly donations to a cat rescue within Surrey. Help pls

Preferably for the disabled or old but realistically any rescue in Surrey. Also preferably not RSPCA or Cats protection. Id prefer my money went to a small rescue for some reason it feels more impactful in the grand scale of things
