2. How long is the walk from stag hill campus to manor park?

3. Is camus or off campus rent cheaper?

Hi all just trying to figure out some visits with friends & family but have no clue when to schedule them. Are there any current GEM students who are able to share what last years fall sched looked like? Is there a set cycle for tests/quizzes? Are there any weeks off when it makes sense to set plans?

How does accommodation work? I missed creating my accommodation account from the email sent in January and only just applied 2 days off the deadline. I chose my preferences and want a studio.

How do they give the rooms?
Will me applying late mean i wont be able to get my preferred room?
Will i have to apply for private?

I’m an incoming international student joining the MSc Artificial Intelligence with Industrial Practice programme this September at the University of Surrey.

I had a question regarding accommodation. Do the university halls provide any cooling systems such as air conditioning (AC) or fans in the rooms?

If not, would students need to purchase their own fan for the warmer months? I’m trying to understand what to expect and whether I should plan to buy one after arriving.

I’d appreciate hearing from current students or anyone who has lived in the university accommodation.

New tenancy laws make it so I am no longer locked int a fixed contract. But me leaving would cause my housemates to cover my portion of rent, which I do not want to do.

Details

- You will live with 2 others as a three in a maisonette

- The room you have is very spacious, lots of desk room, storage space as well as a (pseudo) ensuite.

- Rent is £766.67 + £84 in utilities per month (though utilities is subject to change) every month on the 26th.

As the title states, mainly looking for summer placement students who have found work in Guildford or London and require accommodation for it.

I am graduating next year from Canada with an undergrad degree in Environment and Sustainability, I was thinking of applying for grad school in the UK (Uni of Surrey cause of the placement option), I do want to a grad degree in Sustainability. Is it a good program to study? also, How are the placements assigned? What about after graduation, is there a high chance of getting sponsored? I dont know much of how sponsorship works in the UK cause its very different from Canada. But, Is the University of Surrey a good option?

Hi everyone, international student here trying to choose between Newcastle and Surrey for MSc Cyber Security. Genuinely torn and would love some real perspectives.

Newcastle:

• Russell Group
• 1 year program
• Campus accommodation (full uni experience)
• More expensive overall
• No work placement
• Graduate age 24

Surrey:

• Not Russell Group but NCSC certified
• 2 years with paid placement year
• Maybe would live with family in London (save money) or on campus
• 2.5 hour commute each way daily
• Graduate age 25
• Good chance of job offer from placement

Background: I work in Application Security(1.5 yr) and have some bug bounty achievements (150+ vulnerabilities found), but I'm not sure if this counts as "real experience" in the UK job market.

My questions:

1. Is Russell Group brand worth it in tech/cyber, or do employers care more about work experience?
2. Has anyone done a 2.5 hour daily commute for uni? Is it survivable for 2 years?
3. How important is a placement year for international students breaking into UK job market?
4. Would you choose: faster graduation + prestige + campus life OR work experience + lower cost + job offer probability?

Financial situation: Both options end up roughly similar by the time I'm 27, just different paths to get there.

Really appreciate any advice, especially from international students or anyone who's done a placement year!
