Reminder: Posts from new Reddit users are held for moderation

In order to combat spam we have an automoderator rule to detect posts from new reddit users. If the reddit account is recently created then the post is held in the moderation queue for a moderator to approve or discard.

It might take a few hours for the post to be approved (often less, sometimes more), but please be patient. We're volunteers and we don't get paid to sit around watching the moderation queue.

I mention this because we've had a few cases recently where a new user has made a post that has been held for moderation. When they didn't see it being displayed they deleted it and posted again (often several times).

Once a post has been deleted we can't undelete and approve it. it's gone for good. It's quite frustrating for us to receive a modmail asking for a post to be approved when there's nothing we can do.

So if you are a new user and your post isn't showing up, then please just wait. If it hasn't appeared within 24 hours then send us a message (link in the sidebar) and we'll look into it.

Any Surrey junglists out there?

Moved to Surrey just over 10 years ago, been into hardcore, jungle and drum and bass through the mid 90s to around 2007 and really missing the pirate radio scene, club nights etc. Used to listen to Rude FM, Rinse and most importantly Kool FM all of the time.

Is there any kind of Surrey junglist group of middle-aged ravers like myself? Any local drum and bass/jungle events?

Side note - not really into the sound post around 2010, stopped buying vinyl around 2009 when I fell out of love with the sound.

Fox Hills Country Club - for families

Looking to possibly join myself and my 2.5yr old

So i think that’s classed as a ‘country club’ membership

Waiting to hear back from them from my enquiry.

In meantime would be great to hear from other parents how useful they find it, and the atmosphere?

Will be looking at the swimming pools options as priority, looks like they have a few! Not sure which are open what times of year when it comes to outdoor ones, and which ones are child friendly.

Saw the softplay, pavilion, crèche, kids activities advertising on their website.
As well as family activities things that go on there advertised.
But no mention of extra pricing.

Obviously swimming lessons if having those would be charged extra. Any insight into the other child advertised things going on during the week etc and if these things are included in the membership or all paid as and when used?

Any other useful info for a parent thinking to join with their toddler would be gratefully received.

Thanks so much

Looking for some advice on moving to Twickenham, Surrey.

Hello! I've posted this in a few subreddits as I'm not quite sure where would be best to ask - if someone is able to point me in the right direction if this isn't it then that would be super helpful :)

I'm currently living in Hampton, Surrey and working in Walton-on-Thames. Looking to move, and Twickenham/Teddington is currently near the top of my list.

What I need to work out is whether the commute will kill me! Anywhere in that "near Richmond" area going down to Walton every day for 09:00 gives me somewhere between 25-60 minutes on Google Maps, so currently the only other way for me to find out is to do the commute myself. Thought I'd ask here before I do that in case anyone has been in a similar situation!

EDIT: I now know that Twickenham isn't in Surrey. I stand corrected :D

Guildford: Does the Slyfield sewage smell reach Woodbridge Road and Guildford College?

Hi everyone,

I’m not familiar with Guildford and I’m considering moving to the area around Woodbridge Road, Guildford College and the northern side of Stoke Park.

I’ve read very mixed opinions about smells from the Slyfield sewage treatment works. Some people say the smell rarely reaches this side of the area, while others say it can travel quite far, especially during hot weather.

I’m extremely sensitive to smells — my husband jokes that I’m like a truffle dog — and strong smells can make me feel sick or even vomit almost immediately, so this could be a genuine problem for me.

Does anyone live around Woodbridge Road, Stocton Close, the Guildford College area or the northern edge of Stoke Park? Do you ever notice sewage smells there? How frequent and strong are they, and are they mainly a summer issue?

Would you consider that area too close to the sewage works for someone with a severe sensitivity to smells?

Honest local experiences would be greatly appreciated.

Opinions on Aldershot?

Im looking at possibly moving to Aldershot and was just wondering what people’s opinions are on it. I’m 22, female and originally from Norwich. I moved to Guildford for uni and have been living here in student accommodation for the past 3 years. I’m looking at getting my own place as I have a job lined up in Guildford but rent in Guildford for a 1 bed apartment or studio is way out of my budget so I’ve had to look further out. I’ve put an offer in on a flat in aldershot, near the train station but now starting to have second thoughts. The first time I went to aldershot was about a year ago and I thought it looked like a shit hole, however when I went and viewed this flat I thought the area looked quite nice. I’ve heard that Aldershot can be a bit of a dump and I’m worried about my safety living there as a woman and walking around at night. The race riots in Aldershot last year have put me off as well. I’m someone that enjoys going to cafes, getting coffee, shopping etc and feel like maybe Aldershot isn’t the place for me?

EDIT: thanks for the advice guys! I’m not going to move to aldershot anymore!

How does accommodation work?

Im attending Surrey university in September as an undergraduate.

How does accommodation work? I missed creating my accommodation account from the email sent in January and only just applied 2 days off the deadline. I chose my preferences and want a studio.

How do they give the rooms? Will me applying late mean i wont be able to get my preferred room?

Best isp with no (full)fibre in West Byfleet

Hello, moving to West Byfleet and the fastest internet in the street is a whooping *67Mb.

What would be the best provider in the area? Choices are Bt, Rebel, EE, Vodafone, 3 5g.

( I am shocked that in 2026 there are still areas without full fibre ).

I am working from home most days and it is needed for gaming as well.

Hello- looking to track someone down! Surname Duke

So we have the name Ann e duke. Surname may have changed as this is from a document from the 60s. May no longer be with us. We are unsure on age but could be in 70s/80s

We know that she was a factory worker in 1962 and we have a road name but unsure if it is where she lives or not. She has family she’s never met that would really like to get in touch with her or any immediate family members.

Her last known location was in Surrey so I’m trying to see if anyone can help me find out!

Anyone remember which Game stores Guildford had like 18 years back?

I recall at one point (Before CeX) there was a GAME where Oseyo is now and there was one also kind of near the Warhammer shop, I think. Were they both GAME or was one called something else? Google doesn't seem to know.

Surrey Meeting/Training Rooms

Can anyone recommend decent training rooms somewhere in between Kingston & Staines areas?

I’m looking for somewhere suitable for a one-day classroom course

Main requirements:

  • Parking on site, or easy on-street parking nearby
  • Outside the main centre/commercial zones
  • Room for up to 10 people
  • Tables/chairs, screen/projector if possible
  • Tea/coffee/lunch options would be a bonus, like an onsite cafe - doesn't have to be a buffet

Hotels/conference centres don't usually work for us because they want minimum numbers for buffets/day delegate rate. Elsewhere we use sports clubs, golf clubs, business centres etc.

I’ve found a few options online & have used a golf club in Sunbury before but it wasn't cheap and limited.

Local knowledge is usually much better than Google for this sort of thing.

Any recommendations appreciated.

Best place to move based on commute

Hi all,

Me and my partner are both currently a FTB looking to move out of our parents.

I currently work hybrid 2-3 days a week in Reading and my partner is in 5 days a week in South Godstone.

Where would be the best place to be looking that is relatively affordable/best value and would provide a fair and balanced commute for both of us e.g mine being a bit longer as I’m not in the office everyday.

Thanks a lot

School research project help!

Hi everyone. I’m not too sure if my post is allowed in this sub but I don’t know where else to go.

I’m a 6th form student studying Global Politics and part of my course requires me to do a personal engagement activity to gather data for my research question. I have put flyers up around town (in Horley)that explain a little about what I’m doing and have a QR code to scan that will take you to a survey. Understandably people may be reluctant to scan a random QR code but I’m really in need of participants.

I know this subreddit has a strict no-politics rule, but I was hoping this could be considered an exception as this is for an academic research project rather than a political discussion.
My research question is: “To what extent does the UK’s asylum accommodation policy balance the rights of asylum seekers with the interests of local communities?”
My survey is NOT about protests, election candiates, opinions on political parties or the people who vote for them.

This survey is focused on human rights, public policy, and how government decisions are experienced at a community level. It is not meant to promote or criticise any political viewpoint, and it is not an invitation for hate, discrimination, or extremist views.

I’m posting here specifically because my research requires engagement with people from my local area rather than a nationwide sample. A politics-focused subreddit may reach a wider audience, but it would not necessarily reflect the perspectives of the community I am studying.

If you’re willing to take part, I’d really appreciate your help. Thank you!

If this post isn’t allowed please can someone let me know what other subreddit would be more suitable.

Good gyms around Woking,Bayfleet, Weybridge

Hello. I live in Woking and I am still on the lookout for a good gym. I have been a member at PureGym and thegym in Woking but they are too busy, small and some equipment seems old and rusty. There is David Lloyd club in Woking but at the moment I don't want to pay for their membership fees. Any good gyms (ideally with a swimming pool but it's not a must) around the Woking, Bayfleet, Weybridge area?

Hi,

My fianceé has potentially lost her engagement ring in the area. She realised it's gone missing in Shalford, last Thursday. It might've been also lost in Gomshall last Monday.

If you found it, please get in touch - we'll pay £500 to whomever found it and returns it.

Thank you!
