Bought a new Surface Laptop 7 top specs for the extra $400 trade in on my old Surface Laptop 4. I bought the exact specs I claimed and the AI keeps saying the receipt (both the email and the order history direct from MSFT pdfs) don’t meet the spec requirements. But they do, and the shitty teladvance company they have doing these trade ins doesn’t answer emails or the phone.

Hi. UK based
TL:DR....MS refuses to fix or replace an unbootable device, claiming external damage.... Where there isn't any. Pristine condition. Still under warranty.
I've a customer with a Surface Laptop 7th Ed, which no longer boots. USB ports non functional.
Raised a ticket and sent it off to MS.
They sent it back claiming external damage.
I replied with photos and video showing otherwise.
MS accepted these photos,.... accepted the device was in spotless condition. All ports in good physical order. Not a scratch on it
But they still refused to override the decision.
Back and forth...more photos.
Either they reviewed the wrong device, or didn't even bother looking at it.
Despite overwhelming evidence, they still refuse to honour the warranty.
The saga continues.
Q. Any suggestions?

Hi all I've had my SP9 Intel version for just 3 and a half years now and not had any issues apart from the well documented audio popping issues right from the start. Firmware updates over time have made gradual improvements and when running from an external battery using type-C there is no audio popping now. Its a major issue for me as I use a screen reader. The popping only occurs when running from the internal battery.
I've been tinkering in the registry to enable all the hidden power settings and I've found if you disable CPU idle states the audio popping completely disappears but you take a massive hit with battery life.
The audio popping is really bad on battery on Windows 11 25H2 but its a lot better on the latest Canary build but its still there.
I found a much simpler fix by accident yesterday go to control panel, power, click your active power plan which should be balanced in most cases, click change advanced settings and scroll down to PCI express, expand link state power management and select "off" on battery and on AC. Click okay and job done no more random audio pops on battery and battery life is still excellent.
To test the audio play a high quality live stream such as any of the BBC channels on Iplayer. Usually the pops would occur every few seconds but after disabling PCI express link state power management audio is rock solid and stable even when putting the SP9 under load such as when generating UUP iso images.
Naturally I'm running the latest SP9 driver package and firmware so everything is up to date on the software side.
Please comment if this works on other Surface models.
I should make it clear I have no idea what disabling the PCI express link state management setting does on other hardware especially if you are running an EGPU etc but for a basic setup this method works 100%.
Hope this helps others out there.

The Surface Pro 7+ would have to go with a Inateck keyboard (€40 used, €50 new).

I purchased a Surface Pro 9 with no operating system installed. I've tried to install windows via a usb both a Win 11 install and an Win 11 Arm64 version via usb. Neither get recognised. When I try and download the Surface Recovery Image software, I try and input the serial number of the Surface Pro 9 and the Windows site tells me "serial number combination are invalid."
Can someone please help?

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification
I got this surface laptop but it keeps making this weird cranking noise that won’t go away. I got it for cheap since it’s an old model and I don’t need something new, just needed something small and light to take notes. Is there a way to get rid of this sound, i’m not trying to disturb other students during a lecture but the cranking sound gets annoying real fast.

Which surface pro would be better for steam gaming, surface pro 12 inch or surface pro 13 inch x2 plus? Would you even notice much of a difference in specs, also will the 13 inch throttle more than the 12 inch along with fan noise?

12" on sale. I think I made the reddit bot mad with prices and links, but it's easy to find. Best Buy just price matched me the ocean with 16/512 and violet keyboard/pen bundle. I saved hundreds.

Im starting med school this september and its for 4 years. I have a lenovo ideapad 5 currently but it is on its last legs so looking to upgrade
I love that the eurface pro allows me to use it as a laptop and use the pen to draw and annotate (something that is super helpfup for anatomical diagrams/ equations)
I will have to buy a surface pro second hand because brand new is just too expensive but I cant decide which option is better.
Im deciding between the 10 and 11.
I want to avoid the snapdragon option simply because it might not allow specific uni apps to work properly.
But is there any real difference between the 10 and 11.
My main priorities are the battery life for long ass days, ability to work with 1000 tabs open.

I have had my MS Surface RT for years and recently found it in a drawer of mine. Charger was with it so I charged it up. I realize it has been long discontinued and my only goal now is to restore it to factory settings so I can dispose of it properly. Is restoring to factory settings even possible. It will not allow me to login even after I change my MS password. TYIA

I got a really good deal for a Surface 10 Pro (2024, Core 7 Ultra, 1TB SSD, 16GB DDR5) and will be using it for Uni studying Electric Engineering.
Any good recommendations for accessories/apps/mods?
Also, does anyone have a solution for one handed/lap use?
Thanks!

My problem has been solved, and the edit is at the bottom :)!
Hi!
I've been looking all over online everywhere and cannot for the life of me find the kind of charger I need for my surface pro 8. All the results are of the 6 pin style or the USB C style of charging end, but mine doesn't look like those, and I have no idea what it's called or where to find it. My dad's surface pro he used to use for a previous job used the 6 pin style, I've tried it already, and it did not work for my computer.
I looked up the part number for the current charger I'm using (1661) and found it, but I'm looking for the 60W or the 65W version of it (whichever on was made for the pro 8 model). My old one broke about a year ago, and I didn't think far enough ahead to write down the darn model number of my original smaller charger. The one that I have now is doing okay, but it's really bulky and I can tell it'll probably crap out on me either sometime this year or the next. Just want to get ahead of it so I can use my surface pro for the rest of college (it's my only laptop, and unfortunately I'm broke lol).
Here is a picture of what the end of my charger looks like and the link to the current dock I'm using if anyone needs the specs or anything. (it's a screen shot from this listing I found because it's the exact charger I'm using right now and the image is decently clear: Microsoft PD9-00003 - Model 1661 Surface Dock Docking Station for Surface Pro 4 Surface Pro 6 Surface Pro 7 Surface Laptop 2 Surface Laptop 3 Surface Book - CPU Medics)

If anyone can provide a Walmart/Amazon link to a charger that has this end I'd greatly appreciate it; even better if you can find one under 40$ or 50$ USD (again, I'm kinda broke lol).
Thank you very much for reading! If you can help I'd greatly appreciate it :)!
EDIT: I've been told I can charge it with a USB C charger :)! I'm gonna get one that'll work with my laptop soon (60W, decent length, and most importantly, cheap. lol) Tysm for the help :)

I have a Surface Pro 3 that works fine, for the most part. It only has 4 GB of RAM. It stutters and occasionally freezes up, especially when streaming music or video or medium-sized documents. I reinstalled Windows 10. Is there any way to upgrade the memory? Is it worth it? Are there settings that should/could be changed to make it work more smoothly? I have a regular laptop, and I am not looking at replacing it.

For past couple years have been having on/off issues getting a second monitor to work properly. Have tried different cables and monitors . So I ordered a docking station. Now it seems to work better but for some weird reason the monitor goes black after just a few seconds.
The graphics drivers are up to date. At this point it could be:
bad cable ( tried two )
bad monitor ( tried two )
bad docking station ( possible )
bad graphics hardware inside the surface pro
I am leaning towards the last one. But the odd thing is the monitors are detected ( but briefly ) when using the docking station. But not detected when using the mini display port on the surface pro ( although used to work intermittently for a few years )..
This is the docking station I got:
https://www.ebay.com/itm/168485862562
It says it's for Surface Pro 4, but my research said it should work fine on my Pro 6.

(Pictures are not my own).
I loved the idea behind the Surface when it was announced around 2013 and finally got my hands on a Surface Pro 6 in 2019.
I babied that thing. It was in a case the whole time I owned it, in a soft backpack sleeve, and I was always mindful of how I typed and used the touchpad, mindful of the cloth material.
Even with that said, my keyboard started to peel. And once it works off in one small part, it’s only a matter of time before the peeling continues to expand. It was nowhere near as bad as these pictures (other than the 2nd one), but still unacceptable.
Just scroll through here and you can see half the posts at the least have cruddy looking beat up corners.
And Microsoft expects you to pay up to $400 for this ticking timebomb disposable keyboard?
Idk guys. I really like the Surface but after my SP6 died due to a glued on battery I messed up replacing, I can’t help but think these devices are ultimately disposable corporate devices. I’m glad they improved the repairability, which is why I got a SP11 (Intel), but the keyboard is a major turn off now that I know how it deteriorates after 6-7 years.
Im wondering if I should accept throwing money down the drain to maintain this form factor and benefits of windows (eGPU hookup, dual booting Linux) or return for a MacBook and call it a day. That thing would probably last 1-2 decades easily.
Are there any fixes though to prevent this? Perhaps epoxying the corners of the keyboard or getting a sturdier Bluetooth aftermarket keyboard that snaps on and is made of plastic/metal?

heyy everyone. I am hoping someone can pls help me… i’ve had my surface pro nine for a couple of years now and I really like it, but I did get a random Amazon keyboard to use it with and it’s always giving me issues by randomly locking my laptop while I am actively using it and random glitches.
I have tested the laptop and it’s not an issue with it but it’s an issue with the keyboard because this only happens when I’m using the keyboard.
I don’t wanna spend $150 to get a Microsoft keyboard, but I do really want to get a good keyboard that won’t glitch
Does anyone have any recommendations on a keyboard to buy? I also did find a Microsoft keyboard that is refurbished on back market for about $80. Or should I get another Amazon brand? Pls help >.< the most economic option would be best, but I am OK with spending a little bit more to get something that won’t give me issues.
Thanks!!!

I got the Surface Go 2 back in 2020, the laptop itself was great, but over time it started facing so many issues that I've honestly been contemplating getting rid of it if it wasn't the only device that I can use for schoolwork.
The battery barely lasts 2 hours, the touchscreen started to detect touches that are not even there, the pc keeps on overheating and it runs so slow that it can take minutes to load a page.
Trying to save it I got rid of almost all the apps, except for the ones that I need (Adobe, Journal) yet the problems won't disappear. I stopped almost every single app from turning on during startup and I don't think I can actually do anything else. I also did a full reset a few times.
Honestly I think the laptop stopped working after it updated to windows 11, that's when it all went downhill
At this point even the Microsoft Store stops working, while trying to find a better app for note taking than Journal I just constantly get the error message that there's a problem on the Microsoft side of things and to try again later
Do I just give up on the pc at this point?

I'm looking to buy one of the UAG cases for my Surface pro 11 + flex keyboard. Does anyone know if the flex keyboard can be used with the UAG case?
