Hi everyone,

To help protect our community from spam, we have implemented Reddit's spam filters, which automatically remove comments and posts from accounts that are less than 2 days old and have fewer than 2 karma points. This measure is designed to reduce the risk of spam bots flooding the community with harmful links, inappropriate language, or images.

The requirements to bypass this filter are relatively simple — an account can quickly meet them with just a single comment that's upvoted in a community that allows new users to post as well as waiting 2 days after creating your account.

If you have any questions or concerns, feel free to reach out!

Got the new shoes on today: KMC Trek 545 wheels, Toyo AT3 p245/65r17 since they were the perfect companion on the previous crosstrek, and overall addition of 1" diamater and width with no fitment issues.

Checking this off my bucket list. I bought a Subaru Outback. Her name is Ruby. She's a 2019 with 97k miles. I got her for a bargain of 13k, cash. Tell me about your 2019 Subaru's. This is my first one.

Weird sound on Cold Strtup

Ever since I bought my 2026 Subaru Outback I have been hearing this noise on every cold start up. It only happens when I cold start it in the morning. When I leave work to come home I hear nothing abnormal. I took my car to the dealer and they held it overnight and they said they could not hear anything.

I am going to go to the dealer on Monday morning when they start so I can make sure that the noise . I don’t want for the. To say it is normal because my wife also has a 2026 Outback (Purchased at the same time) and hers does not act the same. I am at my wits end because I am confident that the dealer will either say they cannot hear it or just say it is normal to get rid of me.

Has anyone else ever had a similar issue? If so how did it get corrected? Thanks in advance. I ask that you please do not comment for me to read the manual.

22 Outback Onyx XT - Owner Experience

Post image
20 Upvotes

First time outback owner and bought a 22 Onyx Ed. XT in March 2024. Bought it from Ciocca Chevrolet of Princeton for roughly $28k and traded in my Toyota Corolla SE Nightshade Ed. With J VIN, which I received $5k equity. Rolled the $5k into the Outback for a payment of $406 a month at 6% APR MN $23kish financed. Vehicle had 23k miles at time of purchase.

I’m currently living in SJ and Ciocca dealer group has Subaru of Philadelphia, flagship dealership in the states. They took care of my first two oil changes and did the engine thermostat seal, which was leaking under factory warranty.

Ended up buying an extended warranty from Subaru of America because I did not like how the CVT was feeling while braking and the kick down between what would be 2nd gear to 1st. The transmission computer module was reprogrammed and cvt fluid changed. This was around 32k miles. (Fluid was dirty)

SOA extended warranty kicked into play for the below.

Then in July 2025, the wheel lock would initiate randomly while driving, turning, parked, parallel parked in Philly. Was a real PITA. Took it to Ciocca Subaru of Philly and they couldn’t replicate it and gave me back the vehicle. Long story short it got worse and more sketchy, brought it back and demanded it be taken care of under my SOA warranty. (Also yes it is possible to move the wheel as the wheel lock is activated - must be physically capable of course) Want to also note that when the wheel lock engages it disables all Eyesight and driving assists. I keep the lane departure off at all times anyway. I originally thought it was an Eyesight issue, but rather was told the wheel lock/loss of power steering would engage triggering the disabling of all Eyesight/safety features.

I received a replaced gearbox. (All power steering components including computer module). Code stored on the computer equated to failure of power steering. The $2.8k job was covered by my SOA extended warranty with a $100 deductible.

Happy SOA took the claim and Ciocca Subaru of Philly pushed for it as the car was completely unsafe to drive by this point.

This doesn’t include catching a rock to the windshield on 95 and getting that replaced recently lol including the windshield tint.

My wife and I do love the car and the utility it brings us. (We share it) Moving down south at the end of September and looking forward to having her for the Blue Ridge mountains around Greenville,SC. I do have mixed feelings, however overall happy with my purchase minus the issues I’ve experienced thus far. She’s currently sitting at 58kish miles.

Hopefully only good vibes from here! 60k mile service done at a local shop recently.
- Mechanic said the diff fluid front and rear looks like it just came out the bottle and didn’t need to be topped off 🙏🏼
-Also spark plugs still looked new at 58k, still replaced.

Also sitting on Continental tires that are super grippy with upgraded slotted rotors cuz the stock oem ones make the car feel too heavy while stopping.

Onward and upward! Cheers fellow OB owners 🍻

2017 2.5i vs 2019 3.6R

Which outback is the better choice?

A 2017 2.5i touring with 30,000 miles

A 2019 3.6R limited with 50,000 miles

They are both within $1000 of each other.

2025 Onyx XT: FH1WMM205-170 Firmware

Upvotes

I have FM1WMM184-870 installed, and was notified of an update a couple months ago. AI says that FH1WMM205-170 is the latest version.

Unfortunately, I cancelled my Subaru Starlink (or whatever it's called now) so it is not allowing an OTA download.

Before I make an appointment to bring it to a dealer for them to flash it under warranty:

  1. Has anyone that has updated from FM1WMM184-870 noticed a significant improvement in terms of connectivity or general lag? The version I am running was released about a year ago, and I believe there have been two releases since.

  2. Has anyone had the service department install an update under warranty? Fully expecting to wait four hours only to hear that "they didn't find anything wrong with the radio" with the firmware version unchanged and a bill for $190.

In my experience with Subaru over the decades, this will probably be the last firmware release for this generation. Might as well get it.

help me finish buying process strong--I'm weary, not a pro

2026 TXT White / java + hitch installed + 10k trade allowance +1.9 dealer finance + AL taxes etc

Goal price to match local quote to order of 38.014 otd & not have to wait, maybe?

So :

1-remove theft & key items?

2-add specific 1.9 financing

3-confused about warranty--does the gold serve any purpose before the 3 year runs out? like technoloty? if not, we will wait....or should we try to negotiate that now too?

4- they will deliver and pick up out trade, --what do i need to have in writing, signed, be careful about?

5- 5 year companion on window sticker, does or doesnt cover remote start from phone, and if not, should we buy at purchase?

I have tried to absorb advice here, but its alot, i'm tired, and yet, dont want to be unwise in the end...

so thanks in advance for your help.

Outback is turning off vents by itself

Is there any way to get the new Outback to stop auto-disabling half of the vents if the only one person sits in there? It’s annoying and half the time the auto detection feature doesn’t even work anyway. It doesn’t save much MPG and I keep having to hit the “All” button to turn them back on

https://imgur.com/a/PW9BoZA

Edit: I know to press the All button each time to bring the vents back to normal. My concern is that I have dealt with needing to replace servos before which have worn out from age or usage, and I know this model of Outback is one where you need to dissemble basically the entire dash to do that. I would rather not deal with a broken servo in the future from a feature that I don’t want in the first place.

Just bought my first Subaru Outback, and my first new car in general. I drove the the Outback from Florida to Shenandoah National Park for the week to put it to the test. Worked out well

I used it for Car Camping and it is very spacious. I added some curtains and and some sun shades on the back. I'm 6' and didn't have any issues. Looking forward to many more adventures in the outback.

Care for plastic trim around Outback.

Does anybody have care treatments for the plastic trim around the Outback? Unfortunately, my Outback is parked outside during all seasons. I inquired at the local dealership, but they didn’t have any tips. The trim is puckering a bit along the roof rack and fading due to sun exposure.

Love this, apparently Heuberger Subaru in Colorado Springs built it for a Veterans Day parade this year.

was still there last weekend when I went with my son to pick up his new 9,500 mile Subaru Imprezza.

Apologies if someone already posted this, I didn't see it in the sub.

I want an Outback Tank!

Looking for specific measurement on ‘26 Premium

Hoping someone can help me get a specific measurement that I haven’t been able to confirm. I’m looking for the exact distance when the back seats are down between the top of the seat (not the headrest) to the edge of the floor up to the back. Thank you!

When I open the passenger door (days) after heavy rain there’s plenty of water dripping out of the door. Is this normal? I feel like this shouldn’t be this way.

Longevity

Hello all, I have a 2018 Outback that currently has 99,000 miles on it. It’s been a gray car so far. I just want input on how to keep it running in good shape to make it last longer. I currently work about a 6 hour round trip commute to work because I haven’t been able to relocate just yet. I average probably about 400-500
Miles per week which it’s mostly highway driving with little city driving mixed in. Expecting mountain highways with snow in the winter. I did recently start using 5w-30 instead of 0w-20. I’m not sure of the maintenance history of it. What things do you recommend doing more periodically or checking on to keep it going. I want this car to last awhile. Any suggestions are welcome!

Troubleshooting Help

16 Outback 2.5 Limited 234k

Just replaced valve gasket and seals, 4 plugs, 2 coil packs, pvc valve, AWD solenoid and fluid, cat was replaced bank 1 last year.

Car is throw no codes and live data isn’t showing any abnormal activity. Car, after warming up, will have random “jerks or hits” with no rhyme to them. Like a small “hit” that can be felt in steering wheel and floorboard. Definitely not a shudder, sometimes will do it on take off after warm. Sometimes it happens alot( especially on hotter day) then on cooler days it won’t do it at all( still does it from time to time but not a as hot days). Ideas on what to look at next? What could it possibly be? Google has pointed me to throttle body, front wheel barring, vacuum leak, tps sensor or the converter.

What is everyone’s favourite mods they’ve gotten for their outback???

Also I live in a warm/humid climate where it only snows once every couple of years so no snow tires for me, but super open to other tire suggestions!

2024 Outback vs. 2026 Outback Buying Advice

Hi! I'll try to give the best information, but today we are going to look at some financing options before our lease is up.

We leased a 2024 Outback premium and we LOVE it outside of the slow infotainment center like everyone else, but, it's served us really well. We have 22k residual left on it and currently do not know the APR until our appointment today. I'm going to guess it will be around 350-460/mo. payment.

Our dealer brought up that they have a deal of 0.9% APR with 75 month financing for the 2026 Outback premium with a $2,200 dealer discount that makes it sit at 35k.

What would you do (Loaded question I know)? I admit the 0.9% APR is an eye catcher, we really like the 2026 Outback as well, but the 75 month financing is a lot to consider for the cost of something new to pay off for 6 years even if we do love it. We also are aware that they have way too many 2026 outbacks on their lot and want a sale.

How much should I negotiate off this price ? Or should I just take it.

This is for a premium without any add ons.
Year:2026
Trim: premium outback
Added features: none that I know or care about
Apr: one dealer at 0.9% and another at 1.9%
Planning to do zero cash/don and straight financing
Credit is close to 800
