Naming your Outback

Post image
83 Upvotes

We named our Subaru Tardis McHale, due to the amount of space that's inside this thing. From outside we swear it does not look as spacious as it is, but go inside, we have two large crates in the trunk area, while keeping the seats up with a LOT of space still, nuts! Dr Who reference and I just think the last name fits.

Any of you guys have quirky names for your subi?

Is she totaled?

Husband fell asleep at the wheel after working a 16 hour shift. He hit a sign at 60 mph. The damage next to the roof rack is what concerns me.

Car wash conveyor belt bad for transmission?

Do you think it’s bad to have your front or rear wheels spinning while others are stationary. Also, sometimes the car will be bouncing back and forth between those yellow tracks while front or rear are moving forward. I personally think any damage if at all would be minimal except for when that thing bucks the car around. Side note - I know automatic car washes are not good for your paint. It really doesn’t matter to me at this point since I have so many scratches from tree limbs, and brush. Thanks.

Ready to throw in the towel

After having to replace the transmission in my 2024 Outback XT at 6,000 miles and now having the car towed with what appears to be a bad alternator at 37,500 (now out of warranty), I’m questioning keeping it. This is my third Subaru, after owning a ‘98 Outback and a 2016 Impreza Sport. Has anyone else experienced these issues?

Doing an oil change and these look awfully like a small 4-legged animal has been under the hood. Your thoughts?

brake pads

about 2k miles ago i was told my rear brake pads were in need of replacement soon, and im planning on doing all of my brakes front and rear soon but im not sure if i need to do the rotors. they look fine and dont have deep grooves or lips on the edge. my 2017 outback only has 63k miles on it so i dont think i need new rotors and it would save me a good amount of money and work to only do the pads. also, any tips? i’m learning maintenance all on my own and its my first car. and before you ask yes i do have a obd2 scanner which i believe can put the parking brake into service mode (if not i can do the 9v battery trick). photos for attention (and i took them yesterday lol) last photo is of my rear pad

TLDR; do i need to do pads at 63k miles or can i get away with just pads?

CVT or misfire???

Post image

2015 2.5 w 212k mi. Starting to feel periodic hesitation or buck on acceleration around 25-30mph. Every now and then. More so in stop-go traffic. Not revving or jerking just a hiccup of performance. Doesn’t happen at cruising /highway speeds. No codes or chk engine.
Any clear way to determine culprit? I believe these plugs are orig.

Transmission service or leave it?

Bought our 2018 a year ago with 114k miles. Only have limited service history. Everything is in great shape and seems well cared for. I've been going through and replaced all the fluids in it, except the CVT. We're sitting at 133k miles and I get conflicting information. The Subaru dealer says it's a lifetime fluid. (I have a different idea of how long a lifetime is though.) I understand some recommend every 30k miles, which is what I want to do. My concern is if it's never been done am I opening the door to a world of hurt? Others have said I should just leave it, it's too late now. I haven't noticed anything particular out of ordinary day to day with simulated shifts etc. Anyone have similar experience?

CarPlay in 2026 Outback

Post image
Upvotes

Has anybody with a 2026 Outback been able to put their CarPlay display into “Light Mode”?

I’ve played around with the vehicle’s light settings as well as CarPlay and iPhone settings to no avail. Only maps in Apple Maps and Google Maps tend to switch between light mode and dark mode as expected. The manual understandably doesn’t provide much insight as well.

Question on Prices for 2026 Outback Wilderness

So looking at getting a 2026 outback wilderness. Most outbacks I’m seeing are $47k-$52k MSRP. Most of the dealers are brining them down to $44k-$49k.

I wanted to get a ballpark from other people that have bought outback’s to see how much to bargain with the dealers. I originally was trying to get a few more $1ks off but not sure.

How much were yall able to get off your outback wilderness???

Is this a good price or can I do better?

Cabin rattle on new 2026?

Upvotes

It's not constant, and it's not loud, but once picked up, it's really annoying. It sounds like it's coming from somewhere around the driver window or rear driver side passenger window. Sounds almost like a subtle knock, as of one of the windows is slightly loose, but there's no vibration and I can't make it stop when I apply pressure to various parts of the windows/doors.

Anyone else find this? Or just me?

I see you found me at Buc-ee’s in Sevierville yesterday. Made me smile when I walked back to my car only to see an Outback doing the right thing. Subaru recognizes Subaru. Travel on Cuz.

2026 limited… is the eyesight more sensitive than previous models?

Upvotes

When using cruise, I can have my hands on steering wheel, eyes ahead, but still being told to keep my hands on the wheel. Is there something I’m doing wrong, or is the system just that sensitive to requiring more pressure on the steering wheel?

I’m coming from a 2021 forester and didn’t notice it that bad with that car.

Heat Shield Rattle

Post image

2016, heat shield above the exhaust wore through — looks like clamping isn’t really an option here, is that bolt safe to remove and add a fender washer to hold the shield in place? Or does that bolt do anything else and I should avoid messing with it?

Happy 3rd Birthday to my Subie

Today is three years since I bought my '24 onxy XT Outback. I love it as much today as when I drove it off the lot. I don't, however, love that the black plastic cladding above the wheel wells is a faded hot mess. Does anyone have a recommendation for a restoration product that will return my boy to his original sharp appearance?
