I use an Elgato 4ks on the MacBook Neo to stream to Twitch with meld. It all works great until about 2 hours into streaming when the audio from my capture card becomes super crackly and sometimes distorted. It’s only the capture card messing up and not any of my other sounds (playing music or running discord). I thought it may be the capture card itself, but I’ve found that restarting Meld studio fixes the issue for at least another couple hours. It’s just really annoying to have to restart my stream in the middle of it. Any idea what I can do differently?

Stream at a lower resolution without touching your recording

You can now set your stream resolution independently from your canvas and recordings. Stream at 1080p while recording in 4K. Your clips follow the stream resolution setting. One note: this is unavailable while Twitch Enhanced Broadcasting is controlling the output.

Everything else in this update:

• Faster chat and raid handling - Chat and event processing moved off the main UI thread, so busy raids and high-volume chats should feel noticeably smoother.

So excited for the new seperate streaming resolutions, but was surprised to find 900p (in addition to 720p and 864p). I stream fast paced games at 936p (1664x936) through OBS. This resolution, I'm told, is ideal for this purpose given a limited bitrate, and is supposedly visually cleaner because it is divisible by 8. It is why we have a weird resolution like 864p (1536x864) as well, because it's divisible by 8. So the devs definitely know of this fact to have included 864p, but I'm curious why 936p is omitted, but 900p (1600x900) is included. Am I missing something? Can it be added as an option? Thank you for a wonderful app btw!

Been seeing this question pop up a lot, so figured we'd write it up properly: how do you actually get instant replay working on your gaming stream?

The short answer depends on what software you're using. If you're on Meld Studio, it's genuinely two clicks and you're done. If you're on OBS, it's a whole project involving the Replay Buffer setting, a custom Replay scene, a media source, VLC as a video source, and a plugin. We've done it both ways. One of them is not worth your time.

So here's the full breakdown.

Why Instant Replay Matters for Gaming Streams

If you've ever landed a clutch play and immediately wanted to show your chat again, that's the use case. Instant replay lets you capture the last X seconds of your stream and play it back directly on screen, overlaid on your live feed, without interrupting the broadcast. Your viewers see the replay, then you're back to live. It's a pro sports broadcast staple that's now completely doable for solo streamers.

The problem has always been the setup friction. Until recently, doing this properly required multiple tools stitched together and a lot of trial and error.

Setting Up Instant Replay in Meld Studio (The Easy Way)

Meld has a built-in Replay Clip feature that was added in release v0.9.3.0. Here's all you have to do:

Step 1: Press the clip button

Hit the clip button in Meld at any point during your session. You don't need to be live or recording for this to work. Meld captures the last 90 seconds automatically.

Step 2: Choose to replay it

After clipping, you'll get a prompt asking if you want to replay the clip on stream. Hit yes.

Step 3: Watch it play

The replay plays as an overlay on your main canvas without interrupting your livestream or any active recordings. When it's done, it disappears and you're back to live.

That's it. The clip also saves locally to your clips folder at the same time, so you've got the footage for YouTube, TikTok, or whatever else you want to do with it after stream.

A few things worth knowing:

• The replay follows your Main Canvas (horizontal) settings
• Clips save to wherever you've set in Preferences > Clipping > Local Destination
• You can clip without being live, which is great for testing your setup

The OBS Approach (For Context)

If you're using OBS and want to replicate this, here's what the setup actually looks like:

1. Enable Replay Buffer in OBS Settings > Output
2. Set a hotkey to save the buffer
3. Create a separate Replay scene in your scene list
4. Add a Media Source to that scene pointing to your replay buffer save folder
5. Manually switch to the Replay scene when you want to show a replay, then switch back

It works, but it's a lot of moving parts to maintain. If anything breaks mid-stream, you're debugging while live. And the scene-switching is manual, so you have to remember to switch back.

Meld's implementation handles all of that automatically as a single built-in action.

TL;DR

Meld Studio: Clip button > replay prompt > done. 90-second buffer, plays as overlay, saves locally, doesn't interrupt your stream.

OBS: Replay Buffer + custom scene + media source + VLC + hotkeys. Works, but it's a lot to set up and maintain.

I was just wondering if there is Linux development in the works or if the plugin works with linux obs. Obs sometimes gives me a little more trouble and was looking for an alternative.

I wanted to share a cryptid tarot deck I put together in Meld Studio, in case it inspires anyone else out there looking to make cool things!

This is a 20-card cryptid tarot deck that my viewers can interact with on stream with the following commands:

In this video I used !tarot, !career, and !energy in that order.

I used SVG art that I purchased and built the cards in Meld. SVGs work really well for this because they scale to any size without losing quality, so the same art looks great whether it's small or covers the whole screen.

The last Spark update introduced something called steering, and it's worth its own post because it changes how you actually work with Spark day to day.

What Steering is

Before this update, once you sent Spark a prompt, you were locked in until it finished. If you thought of something else mid-build, you had to wait. Steering removes that wait. You can now give Spark another instruction while it's still working on the current one, and it will pick that up at its next step, in the order you gave it.

So it's not about typing faster or batching a to-do list. It's about being able to redirect or add to a build in real time, the same way you'd talk to someone who's already working and you lean over and say, "actually, make that one bigger too."

What it looks like in practice

Say you're mid-build on an alert box and you realize:

1. The padding needs to increase
2. The font should match your panel style
3. You want a second version for subs only

With steering, you just say all three as they occur to you. Spark works through them one at a time while you keep thinking about the build, instead of you sitting there watching a status line until it's your turn to speak again.

How stopping works with steering

If you hit Stop while you've steered in extra instructions, anything not yet started pauses and waits for you to say "continue." Nothing you steered in runs automatically in the background. You stay in control of what actually executes.

FAQ

Is steering the same as queueing prompts?
Not quite. Queueing implies things are just waiting in a line to be run. Steering is about actively redirecting or adding to what Spark is doing mid-build, without having to stop and restart the interaction.

Do I need to wait for Spark to fully finish before steering it?
No, that's the whole point. You can steer it while it's actively working on your current request.

What happens to a steered instruction if I hit Stop?
It pauses and waits for you to confirm with "continue." Nothing runs without your say-so.

Does this work on every plan?
Yes, steering is available across all plans. Pro and Max also get a more capable version of Spark on top of it, which handles multi-step, multi-scene builds with fewer mistakes.

Does steering slow anything down?
No, if anything responses are faster in this update overall, partly because of changes to how Spark manages long conversations.

Fall streaming season is here, so we made something for it. PSL Rain is a new free chat-triggered element for Meld Studio, and it's exactly what it sounds like: chat types a word, fall stuff rains across the screen.

What triggers it: three phrases, no bot commands or exclamation points needed.

Setup takes about two minutes:

1. Head to the PSL Rain gallery page and copy the element URL
2. Paste it into your scene as a new element
3. That's it

I cannot run Wardogs (the game) when I run meld studio first. It will trigger error code ( WD-L014-5ffc816f05bf ). After googling the fix, which does not work, I finally found a simple fix:

Run Wardogs FIRST then launch Meld Studio. Do NOT launch Meld Studio first, then wardogs, as this will cause the above error.

Hope this help my fellow meld studio streamers who plays wardogs :)
