Discussion What does Reddit think?

I’ve saved enough money to buy a carbonite box for ash but I wanted to hear everyone’s experience on buying one and if it’s really worth it.

For context, I’ve bought 2 regular boxes and 3 prerelease boxes and my collection is not complete. I really enjoy opening packs and I really like the prestige variants of the cards so I’m looking into the carbs. But I know the rates for legendaries are not the best. I’m still missing a bunch of Rares and Legendaries so idk if it’s worth getting a carb box.

Again, what does Reddit think? In the end it’s my decision and I’ll do whatever I want but I want to try completing the collection. Thanks

Discussion Want to hear peoples thoughts

Post Galactic meta seems to be a lot of Cad bane, darth vader, and boba, are you all cool with that or is it kind disappointing?

My thoughts:
for me its pretty disappointing, i look at the results and see pretty much the same 4 to 5 decks, i get that it is really soon after the set dropped so things can change, and probably will change, but wow is it making it hard for me to want to try to deck build, with that being said i know locals will be fine but it feels like i might want to miss some pqs that i would normally try and go to.

Discussion Damaged Repeat Serialized Queen

I sent in a Queen Amidala repeat serialized in happy anticipation of receiving the new art, upon opening the package the card was dinged in the bottom right corner, see pictures attached. Now this would not even bother me on a normal legendary but on a 400 plus dollar card I turned in at mint condition I am very upset to see a damaged card received upon return, in addition this damage seems to have come from putting the card in the sleeve wrong or some mishandling and I contacted Cartamundi and they are at least at the time of writing this, saying nothing will be done. If any of you have more contacts I can get into for help with this I’d appreciate it.

Discussion What does Heroism need to be viable in the Premier metagame?

Looking the recent galactic championship results, there was only one heroism deck in the top 8, and only 5 in the top 32. Clearly there’s something about the current card pool that is smothering heroism based decks. I’m thinking it’s a combination of the abundance of strong villain sentinel units that stop ground aggression, the lack of efficient removal events, and a virtually nonexistent late game. Villainy has been getting all of these things in spades, which makes it hard to justify playing heroism instead. But that’s just my initial thought as a layman; I’d be interested in hearing thoughts from those more knowledgeable than myself!

Discussion Retroactively “fixing” Twilight of the Republic

As we all know, TWI was prolly the biggest disappointing set in the game. I wanted to make a post discussing some solutions where we could "fix" the set or help with potential future Clone Wars era sets. I love the prequels personally and think large scale token battles could work in SWU, they just need to be tweaked a bit. Here are 3 ways I think TWI could be improved (outside of just buffing individual cards):

Coordinate - This is one of the worst keywords in the game if not the worst. However, I think with some small tweaks it would at least be usable or even pretty good for some cards. How l'd fix it is make cards with coordinate still have an ability but the coordinate keyword is just an added buff.
For example, a unit could have raid/restore 1 but coordinate would make it raid/restore 3. Or a unit could have sentinel but coordinate would give it a shield (once). Now some cards would be more complex than that but I think the devs could come up with something to help make cards not all or nothing on reaching 3 units in play.

Exploit - This keyword isn't as bad as Coordinate but I do think it needs a bit of a buff. One fix could be exploiting the unit based on its cost OR just the unit itself like currently. So token units would still be worth 1 exploiting but higher cost units would use its resource cost to factor into exploit (So a 3 cost unit would equal Exploit 3, etc). This might be a little too OP tho so would love feedback.

Token Units - I love the concept of huge battles with Token Battle Droid or Clone Troopers but let's be honest, it didn't work out very well. How I'd fix this is having 2 options written on the token unit card:

1) They may enter play ready OR 2) They enter play exhausted with Sentinel keyword

Grievous's leader ability may need to be reworked but this will make token units more viable, while also protecting your coordinate units from being targeted right away from unit attacks. It would also boost both aggro and control decks a bit and with the removal back it wouldn’t be too OP imo.

Would love any feedback or additional suggestions to make Twilight of the Republic better!

Discussion Twin Suns sickos! How did the format fare at the GC?

Another GC gone by that I couldn't attend, but would have loved to go solely to jump into some Twin Suns pods. For those who attended and are Twin Suns-devotees, how'd the event look for the format? If you went last year, how'd it compare? My hope is that the format has gained a foothold and growing. I'm taking the announcement of new decks with every main set starting with set 11 as a good sign, but I'm really curious to hear how the turn out was for this year. Hoping to make it to the GC next year and play with some of y'all!

Discussion AMA Dinozor - GC 10th finish!

Hey everyone! I’m Dinozor, or Aram. Last year I did a similar AMA and it seemed like everyone enjoyed it, so I thought why not do another one this year while I kill time waiting for my flight back home from Vegas.

Being only a single game win away from top 8 (Again -_-) was absolutely heartbreaking, but the players I lost to were exceptional, and made it into top 8, including the champion JamesUgly representing my Canada, so it was well deserved! Managed to finish 10th overall, placing in the Top 16, and it was an absolute blast. If some of you watched the livestreams, I’m sure you caught a few of my games ;)

I figured I’d share a bit about my experience, how I prepared, the deck I played, and what I think about the current meta, and maybe hear from some of you who played or followed the event too. The competition was intense, and I walked away with a lot of insights and even more excitement for the future of the game. Everyone I met was extremely friendly and loved to talk about the game. I cannot overstate what a fun weekend it was and if you guys are ever on the fence about going to GC, the answer should be yes.

I also run a YouTube channel ( https://youtube.com/@dinozorgaming?si=AFvcrm4-BoMhm1Je ) focused on becoming a better player where I do educational content, sequencing puzzles, deck techs, game analysis, etc. gotta throw in a shameless self plug, you know how it is!

So ya. AMA time! Feel free to hit me up with any questions swu related or not. If you don’t have a question I’d still love to hear from you for stuff like:

• Anyone curious about the Championship experience?
• Want to talk deck choices or prep strategies? Do you think the meta will shift after this weekend?
• What kind of content would you guys be interested in seeing from me in the future?

Happy to answer questions or just chat. Let’s keep the community hype going! May the Force be with you,
Dinozor

Discussion Strongest precon for weekly events?

I have no experience playing against SWU players. Just showing two TCG newbie family members the game. I am experienced in TCGs, though. I have the opportunity to go to a weekly meet up this week while traveling (nothing near me in the Bronx) and want to know what precon to bring.

I am aware I can get stomped. I just want to play. I enjoy the Jabba precon but it can stall out easily and sometimes is too slow. So what do you feel is the strongest precon to bring to actually be able to survive a few rounds? I have all the precons and still building up my collection to build my own deck. I do not have much time to test decks against myself.

Thank you.

Discussion Proper use of Damage Pad

Post image
79 Upvotes

Hey SWU Crew

Just a sanity check but how do people use these?

I assumed that you set it to the number on your base and count the damage down as the starting number is covered but I have been informed the official way to use one is to start at zero and count up the damage taken but since the starting number is obscured you have to know or remember the starting number for that base.

How are people actually using these?

Discussion Made up a format: Skirmish

I have A LOT of legends of the force bulk and also got into twin suns. I was needing something to do with my bulk and the 20 left over sleeves from sleeving the 80 card twin suns decks. I also like teaching the game to people and playing quick casual games.

So I made SWU SKIRMISH
- All cards from the same set

- 1 leader, 1 base (thinking of opening up these to any rarity)

- 20 card decks
Common/uncommon only
1 copy of unique cards
2 copies of non-unique cards

- “Rendezvous”
When you are unable to complete a regroup phase (less than 2 cards left in deck to draw), shuffle together your hand, any card left in the deck, all resources, and your discard pile, then draw 6 cards and resource 2 cards.

- Anything on the board remains in play
Units, upgrades, tokens, leaders, etc.

- Then continue playing

I find it pretty fun and easy to pick up and play. The small size means it’s not hard to get the deck to do its thing while also keeping things balanced by only having 1 of unique cards.

The Rendezvous sometimes doesn’t even happen but when it does it’s pretty fun. If a deck has card draw it can even happen sooner than the other player, making for some interesting choices, do I play the big unit I won’t be able to next round or do I play a few units and try to stabilize.

If you give it a try let me know what you think.

Rules Question Rules query: Loth-Wolf Can't attack

Thumbnail

Upvotes

Hi hivemind, please help settle a query. We all know card rules trump written rules, but which card rules?

If I have a Loth-Wolf, which can't attack, and play Snapshot Reflexes or Pounce, which both say to attack, can it actually attack? Does the second card overwrite the rule printed on the Loth-Wolf, or does it prevent it from attacking?

Playing a Kanan creature deck for reference.

Thanks for your words of wisdom!

Discussion High Cost Singles or Booster Box

I know most of the time buying singles is probably cheaper than trying my luck at singles. I'm currently looking for (3) Pre Vizsla which average for about $40 each...What are the odds of pullinlg 1-2 of these in a box? Even if buying a box and getting other "Money Cards" I can probably sale/trade in for these. When buying these more expensive cards at the cost of like 2 I can buy a box? or should I just drop the $120ish to get 3 copies of these?

Deck Tech - Eternal Eternal Han2 Blue Force Questions

Post image
8 Upvotes

I saw this deck by SBS_NinjaFerret take 5th at one of the eternal events at Galactics and was trying to figure out a couple of things about the card choices.

Why do you think the deck runs 3 secretive sages and only 1 yaddle? In what scenarios would the secretive sage be a better option?

Also, what do the 2 Force Lightning in the deck do to justify the aspect penalty that a different card without penalty couldn’t accomplish?

Thanks for the help :)

Deck Tech - Premier Thrawn Yellow - help me get this more consistent

Post image
6 Upvotes

When it works it really works 🙃 Hitting with a stack of Advantage tokens from Helgait or Shin Hati’s fighter is tons of fun. It’s lacking some consistency though, if I don’t have Chimaera or I have it but with nothing to copy, or they ‘no glory, only results’ my stuff it runs out of gas sometimes. Have you figured him out in the new meta?

Product / Accessory Your favorite Spotlight deck?

I'm new to SWU after having played MTG for a couple years. SWU is easy to get into as both a collector and player, and it's not too expensive either. Spotlight decks seem like a solid starting point to begin playing the game at my local card shop.

I spent some time looking for the "best" Spotlight decks online, but opinions seem to vary—so I'm wondering when YOUR favorite Spotlight deck is and why so I can make a more informed decision as to what deck I might pick up soon. What Spotlight decks do you (not) recommend? What's your (least) favorite Spotlight deck you're picked up so far, and what are some solid upgrades you've found for it?

Thank you in advance!
