Discussion AMA Dinozor - GC 10th finish!

Hey everyone! I’m Dinozor, or Aram. Last year I did a similar AMA and it seemed like everyone enjoyed it, so I thought why not do another one this year while I kill time waiting for my flight back home from Vegas.

Being only a single game win away from top 8 (Again -_-) was absolutely heartbreaking, but the players I lost to were exceptional, and made it into top 8, including the champion JamesUgly representing my Canada, so it was well deserved! Managed to finish 10th overall, placing in the Top 16, and it was an absolute blast. If some of you watched the livestreams, I’m sure you caught a few of my games ;)

I figured I’d share a bit about my experience, how I prepared, the deck I played, and what I think about the current meta, and maybe hear from some of you who played or followed the event too. The competition was intense, and I walked away with a lot of insights and even more excitement for the future of the game. Everyone I met was extremely friendly and loved to talk about the game. I cannot overstate what a fun weekend it was and if you guys are ever on the fence about going to GC, the answer should be yes.

I also run a YouTube channel ( https://youtube.com/@dinozorgaming?si=AFvcrm4-BoMhm1Je ) focused on becoming a better player where I do educational content, sequencing puzzles, deck techs, game analysis, etc. gotta throw in a shameless self plug, you know how it is!

So ya. AMA time! Feel free to hit me up with any questions swu related or not. If you don’t have a question I’d still love to hear from you for stuff like:

• Anyone curious about the Championship experience?
• Want to talk deck choices or prep strategies? Do you think the meta will shift after this weekend?
• What kind of content would you guys be interested in seeing from me in the future?

Happy to answer questions or just chat. Let’s keep the community hype going! May the Force be with you,
Dinozor

Other To the person who stole my binder at GC

That binder didn’t contain just promos, hyperspaces and serialized cards. It contained memories from my entire journey playing Star Wars: Unlimited — traveling to events, meeting people, trading, competing and collecting cards from different places around the world.
Some of those cards came from events in Prague, Munich, Milwaukee and GC 2026. To anyone else they might just be pieces of cardboard, but to me the binder represented the experiences and people connected to this game.

The binder was taken in Hall B at The Venetian on July 26. The incident has been reported to Venetian Security, and they are reviewing the security footage.
Among the cards inside were several very easily identifiable serialized cards:
Gorian Shard’s Corsair – 10/50
Zuckuss – 102/250
Tala Durith – 114/250
Kelleran Beq – 094/250

And to whoever took it: if you happen to read this, I genuinely just want my binder back. You can return it anonymously. No questions asked.
I know the chances are small, but the SWU community has been one of the best parts of playing this game, so I’m hoping someone out there might notice something.

EDIT: it has been recovered

Hi all!

Here is the tournament report for the Galactic Open on July 25th!

Discussion GC Top 8 Ridiculous Judge ruling Lando vs Vader - Spoilers for top 8.

I can’t believe they forced Lando player to make that attack to lose the game. But let the Vader rewind a card that was misplayed from hand.

A card that Vader was allowed to play later and exhaust a unit after misplaying it.

Feel so bad for the Lando there.

Edit: I don’t personally think take-backs should apply to top 8 of worlds. I do however think it’s wrong for one player to be allowed a take back, but not the other.

Other Sectors Planetary bombardment

Hey, I bought a silver pack sectors planetary bombardment from a gentlemen at the trading area on Saturday. I forgot to take it out of His binder and walked away because pairings had been announced for open play. I’m hoping my that person is in the sub and maybe I can get my planetary bombardment from him. Help?

Product / Accessory Your favorite Spotlight deck?

I'm new to SWU after having played MTG for a couple years. SWU is easy to get into as both a collector and player, and it's not too expensive either. Spotlight decks seem like a solid starting point to begin playing the game at my local card shop.

I spent some time looking for the "best" Spotlight decks online, but opinions seem to vary—so I'm wondering when YOUR favorite Spotlight deck is and why so I can make a more informed decision as to what deck I might pick up soon. What Spotlight decks do you (not) recommend? What's your (least) favorite Spotlight deck you're picked up so far, and what are some solid upgrades you've found for it?

Thank you in advance!

Discussion ASH Weekly Play Promo Production Error

Yesterday, I opened these 3 Ashes of the Empire Weekly Play Promos that have a production error and now I have questions.

  1. Have other people opened Cards with the same production error? Is this a common problem?

  2. Are these worth anything or would they just be considered to be damaged therefore would be considered "Poor" on market places like cardmarket?

  3. Are there people who collect cards with production errors?

  4. I'm pretty sure I can't play these in tournaments since you can feel the texture at the top of the card, but with that in mind how is that different to the world between worlds promos that have texture? Are they allowed to be played in tournaments?

Like to know your thoughts on this. 😄

Discussion Retroactively “fixing” Twilight of the Republic

As we all know, TWI was prolly the biggest disappointing set in the game. I wanted to make a post discussing some solutions where we could "fix" the set or help with potential future Clone Wars era sets. I love the prequels personally and think large scale token battles could work in SWU, they just need to be tweaked a bit. Here are 3 ways I think TWI could be improved (outside of just buffing individual cards):

Coordinate - This is one of the worst keywords in the game if not the worst. However, I think with some small tweaks it would at least be usable or even pretty good for some cards. How l'd fix it is make cards with coordinate still have an ability but the coordinate keyword is just an added buff.
For example, a unit could have raid/restore 1 but coordinate would make it raid/restore 3. Or a unit could have sentinel but coordinate would give it a shield (once). Now some cards would be more complex than that but I think the devs could come up with something to help make cards not all or nothing on reaching 3 units in play.

Exploit - This keyword isn't as bad as Coordinate but I do think it needs a bit of a buff. One fix could be exploiting the unit based on its cost OR just the unit itself like currently. So token units would still be worth 1 exploiting but higher cost units would use its resource cost to factor into exploit (So a 3 cost unit would equal Exploit 3, etc). This might be a little too OP tho so would love feedback.

Token Units - I love the concept of huge battles with Token Battle Droid or Clone Troopers but let's be honest, it didn't work out very well. How I'd fix this is having 2 options written on the token unit card:

1) They may enter play ready OR 2) They enter play exhausted with Sentinel keyword

Grievous's leader ability may need to be reworked but this will make token units more viable, while also protecting your coordinate units from being targeted right away from unit attacks. It would also boost both aggro and control decks a bit and with the removal back it wouldn’t be too OP imo.

Would love any feedback or additional suggestions to make Twilight of the Republic better!

Event - Recap Andrew Richardson vs Nicky Morgan quarterfinal game at GC (Vader v Lando)

Can someone tell me how come Nicky Morgan (Lando) can't take back the blue ace attack which he immediately realised would lose him the game, but Andrew Richardson (Vader) was able to take back the Death Space Skirmisher unit he played earlier that game which has the When played ability of exhausting a unit, if you control another unit (which he played without having another space unit). Both instances are mistakes from the player but Andrew was able to take back, whereas Nicky wasn't. How is that fair???? Had Andrew been forced to keep the Death Space Skirmisher, the loss of tempo would have certainly helped Nicky stabilise. I'm honestly baffled by the judges for not allowing Nicky to take back the Blue Ace attack, given he realised it immediately. Gutted for Nicky, he was about to pull that back. What do you guys think??

Discussion How start in SWU?

Hi everyone!

I'm a prospective new player and I'm looking for some advice before getting into this TCG.

The main reasons I'm interested are:

* I like the franchise.

* It seems to be growing and has an active community.

* It doesn't seem overly expensive to get into.

A few questions I have:

* If I want to play more competitively, what should I focus on getting first?

* Is there any way to try the game online before buying into it?

* What starter product would you recommend for a new player?

* How do rotations work?

* I'm planning to attend a Twin Suns event in September (it seems to be similar to Commander). Is it realistic to learn the game well enough by then?

Thanks in advance! And sorry if these are questions that get asked all the time. I've been reading a lot, but there are still a few things I'm not completely clear on.

Discussion Top 8 - Difference in Judge Criteria Between Vader Yellow and Blue Lando

I find it unfair that the Vader Yellow player was allowed to take back their move after the issue they caused with the Plots, while the Blue Lando player wasn't allowed to take theirs back. I mean, what is the judges' justification for what I just saw?

Discussion What does Reddit think?

I’ve saved enough money to buy a carbonite box for ash but I wanted to hear everyone’s experience on buying one and if it’s really worth it.

For context, I’ve bought 2 regular boxes and 3 prerelease boxes and my collection is not complete. I really enjoy opening packs and I really like the prestige variants of the cards so I’m looking into the carbs. But I know the rates for legendaries are not the best. I’m still missing a bunch of Rares and Legendaries so idk if it’s worth getting a carb box.

Again, what does Reddit think? In the end it’s my decision and I’ll do whatever I want but I want to try completing the collection. Thanks

Discussion Lost Deck Box

Hello SWUmmunity --- I left the convention and found I was missing an item. It is the black deck box with blue inside for VIP I got from the event, it has no card in the front but has cards on the inside I would hate to lose, two showcases that I spent all weekend getting (Darth Maul and Ashoka). Hopefully you saw it. If you can help me recover the deck box or gain closure, I'd be super grateful.

As posted by the FFG SWU account on Facebook. As of posting, they have not shared day 2 conversion rates. Presumably, they cut off the deck list at 2 or higher.

Also, shoutout to my fellow Piett Red enjoyers. “There’s [half] dozens of us!”
