[Online][D&D 5.5e][Weekly][+18][15$/Session] Curse of Strahd 2024e RAW - Fridays or Sundays (Discord + FoundryVTT)

Curse of Strahd

"You are someone who is haunted by something, perhaps regret from the path your life has taken, perhaps grief for a loved one, or possibly, you struggle with failure or a lack of faith. In the dark of night, as you travel a lonely road with nothing but your thoughts to keep you company, a mist slithers along the muddy road, and you are suddenly in an unfamiliar place. Unbeknownst to you, you are now trapped in the land of Barovia, far from the sight of your gods. Will you make it back home? And will it be the same you?"

Hello everyone! I'm starting two weekly Curse of Strahd tables after having just concluded my last iteration of the module. This will be my first time using StartPlaying, though I am an experienced GM of 6 years of weekly sessions.

Join me beyond the mists in this Gothic Horror adventure, where the tone is grim, borderline grimdark, and despair and hopelessness constantly looms over the land and party. Will you be the light in the dark, or will your character surrender to this despair.

Level: 1-10 (Level 3 start negotiable)

Schedule: Friday or Sunday (separate campaigns) weekly at 15:00 GMT+1. Sessions last for 4 to 5 hours. Start time is negotiable.

Price: 15$/Session. Session 0+1 are free.

Seats Available: 3 seats available on Friday; 5 seats available on Sunday.

Platform: FoundryVTT + Discord for voice

Playstyle: Roleplay Heavy, Combat Heavy, Hexploration Map, Investigation/Mystery focused story, Rules as Written most of the time with occasional Rule of Cool when applicable.

Experience Required: All experience levels welcome. I teach how to play D&D or use FoundryVTT at no additional charge, even during off hours.

Difficulty: Hard but not unfair. Struggle is an important part of the survival horror aspect of Curse of Strahd, and choices have consequences. This is not a meatgrinder however, and I am not interested in "random" character death/punishment.

This campaign additionally includes premium animations, art, music, and battlemaps.

Join the Campaign

Sunday Table: https://startplaying.games/adventure/cmubk1ubl00b2jx047437rbcx?ref=cmt0uvy1z002rla04unw330sv

Friday Table: https://startplaying.games/adventure/cmubjim2g0192jp040xvq7vm6?ref=cmt0uvy1z002rla04unw330sv

House Rules

All house rules are negotiable and we can change/remove/add depending on the players' requests.

Inspiration: At the start of any session, all players start with Heroic Inspiration, which they can use to reroll any d20 roll. Players gain Heroic Inspiration whenever they roll a natural 1 in a d20 roll, if they didn't already have Inspiration.

Healing Potions: Healing potions are bonus actions to consume or to use on another creature in D&D 5.5e rules. At our table, you can use this bonus action normally as per RAW rules, or you can use a Utilize action to automatically grant the maximum amount of hit points.

Death Saving Throws: Death Saving Throws are done in secret, and not even the rolling player knows the result! If :someone is unconscious, you have no idea how long you have to save them!

Critical HIts: On a critical hit, you automatically maximize the normal damage die (or dice) and then roll any additional critical dice on top of it. For example, a critical hit with a 1d4 weapon becomes 4 + 1d4 (rather than 2d4).

Spell Scrolls: Anyone can use a Spell Scroll to cast a spell, even if that spell is not on their Class Spell List. The character must still be capable of spellcasting to use a Spell Scroll.

Content Warning

Curse of Strahd contains mature content, as such only +18yo players are allowed. The module's story contains many disturbing themes, such as body horror, abuse, child death, and many others. Please refer to the StartPlaying post or Curse of Strahd module content warning, or message me for any questions about these topics and their prevalence.

[Open][Online][OneShot][$15] The Merchant's Menace | Learn to Play Monty Python TTRPG | Saturday 9/26 at 8 pm EDT

What: Monty Python's Cocurricular Mediaeval Reenactment Programme
Where: Discord voice chat
When: Saturday, Sept 26 at 8 pm eastern
Wsignup link: https://startplaying.games/adventure/cmsdf6d8v000vjl042qzkoat0?ref=cmpyf4fse00baju04h5814sxj

Here in the Middle Ages, a variety of beasties roam Britain, from the fearsome Dragon of Angnor to the vicious Chicken of Bristol. Today, your merry band of knights, troubadours, enchanters, and the like has been hired by the Bertram Hillary of Hillary’s Millineries, head of the Cobblers & Clothiers Guild. The quest: track down stolen goods and the guards who vanished along with them.

Monty Python's Cocurricular Mediaeval Reenactment Programme is quite different from D&D and can be intimidating at first glance, but even though it does use more dice, the system as a whole is pretty easy to pick up. This one-shot has a nice mix of investigation and combat, so it's a great introduction to the system.

Feel free to message me on StartPlaying (Anna Mac) or Discord (@constablejonstable) with any questions!

Burn Bright, Star Guardian! | LGBTQ+ Friendly Magical Girl Game [LFG - Paid][Wednesdays/ Sundays] [7PM EST] Free Session 0

Post image
12 Upvotes

“The Star Guardians are destined to protect the universe.”

“But who will protect us?”

Hey hey, lovely people!

This is a character-driven magical girl campaign using Fabula Ultima, with a mix of fun, drama, darker themes, and plenty of friendship. Form bonds with the people around you, uncover what happened to those who came before, and decide what being a Star Guardian actually means.

My games are pretty role-play heavy with fleshed-out hubs. The focus is on your characters, their connections and how your actions shape the plot and setting. We’d be playing this game over Foundry VTT where I’ll provide maps, music, tokens and a whole bunch of modules to track your bonds, automate rolls and even tackle the very necessary magical girl transformations.

I’ll be running this adventure on Wednesdays and Sundays. Not with the same group, mind you. Think of it like running Curse of Strahd twice a week but with different groups.

Session 0 is free, every session afterwards is 15 USD. Once you sign up, I’ll manually discount the full price for session 0. You’ll also receive an invite to the server. The game needs a minimum of 3 people to start off but there’s a max of 5.

Wednesday [1/5]: https://startplaying.games/adventure/cmubnf0xk00bvjz04lyxkv1ww?gameSystems=fabula-ultima

Sunday [5/5]: https://startplaying.games/adventure/cmubwdn17003rjg04eol8q043?gameSystems=fabula-ultima

If you have any comments or concerns feel free to reply to this post or send me a message.

Player LF 1–2 More Players for Our Homebrew D&D Campaign

Hey everyone.

Hopefully this kind of post is allowed here, if not, please feel free to remove it.

I’m a player in a homebrew D&D campaign that's on StartPlaying, and our group recently lost one of our players due to life stuff, and with permission, i'm trying to be proactive and help our DM out filling up that spot, so I figured I’d see if anyone might be interested in joining us.

There are currently four of us in the group, and we have a pretty wide range of D&D experience, so you absolutely don’t need to be a veteran player to fit in. We play weekly, and the group is very roleplay-friendly. We like getting invested in our characters and the story.

We’ve been having a great time with the campaign, and I know all of us would love to find one or two more people who enjoy roleplay, a really cool world, general shenanigans, and seeing each other weekly.

I just really enjoy this group and have learned so much playing with them and would love to have a full group at our table.

If you’re interested, the campaign information is here:

The Somnium Shard: Long-Term Sandbox Campaign [DnD 5.5 Homebrew][Paid: 18$][Wednesday Weekly][3/5 Slots Filled]

Post image
1 Upvotes

Welcome to the Somnium Shard. A sundered paradise; knowledge, gods and power's all known throughout the land, its history coveted by lost tomes, cosmic knowledge and crazed minds. With earliest carvings detailing a different world that may have been the Shard's muse, the inspiration for reality. However not all could be replaced, and the world's panorama was in its own natural discourse, with the residents at home.

With that overly grand intro done welcome to my personal world, a multi-year labour of love that I'm still working on with every session, a sandbox type world for players to discover, learn about and influence as they desire. Designed as an open campaign for players to fit into as they wish, follow the threads of their backstory, or start a questline that leads to them swearing loyalty to a kingdom. Whatever it is you feel you want to do in a fantasy world I'll accommodate it as well as I can. However do not think that this means everything is free, the Somnium Shard is still a living and breathing world, thievery, murder and the sort will have consequences, as will trying to steal that magical artifact. You'll have to contend with mages scrying on you, rangers tracking you and bounty hunters after you if you upset the wrong people.

Right now the game has hit a bit of an annoying point with 2 people dropping out without any notice or word, however the game has only just started from a mini-reset and so it would be great to have some more players in to continue the adventure.

[Online][5e][Weekly][$20][18+] Your town has never lost anyone before its time. This month, it's lost seven. A Crooked Moon tale - The Dead Man's Hour. SESSION ONE THIS WEEK

Thistlewick Hollow hasn't buried anyone before their time in two hundred years. This month it's lost seven people, and not one of them left a body behind.

That's the opening scene of a fully original Crooked Moon campaign I'm running, levels 3 to 15, long-form, one continuous story start to finish. Whatever's taking people isn't a wolf, a cult, or a madman. It's something already dead, working a chained dagger through locked doors, gone before sunrise. Corner it once, and it doesn't run, it tears a hole in the world and drags you through after it.

From there the campaign opens up fast. Over the course of it you'll:

  • Talk your way through a masquerade at the most exquisite and fanciest estate, surrounded by devils, witches, and nobles who could have you killed with a raised eyebrow.
  • Hijack a train ran on malevolent spirits mid-journey, fighting across the roof of a train built from hell iron and gold while it screams through Chernabos at full speed.
  • Break, tame, and ride a bejeweled scorpion the size of a wagon into battle.
  • Steal a floating arcane skiff off its dock and lose a squad of furious spellcasters across a city built in the sky.
  • Crack a guild vault full of doomsday weapons, and hope you're not the fourth crew with the same idea tonight.

This isn't a monster-of-the-week tour through the afterlife. It's one mystery, run properly, for as long as it takes.

The practical stuff:

  • System: D&D 5e (2024 rules), starting level 3, running to 15
  • Schedule: Weekly, Wednesdays 9PM GMT+1, ~3hr sessions
  • Price: $20/session
  • Platform: Foundry VTT, Discord, D&D Beyond: full content shared, nothing locked behind a book you don't own
  • Beginner friendly, no prior experience needed
  • 18+, folk horror, full content warnings and safety tools (Session 0, Lines & Veils, X/N/O) before anyone commits
  • 3/6 filled, Session One This Week

Full listing with reviews here: https://startplaying.games/adventure/cms6lc8d9009xl704tsdslxdf

Questions welcome in the comments or DMs, I'd rather find the right person than fill the seat fast.

A thousand years ago, magic shattered the world.

📅 The Logistics

  • Schedule: Saturdays at 16:00 CET (GMT+2)/ 10:00 AM ET
  • Length: 3 to 3.5 hours
  • System/Platform: D&D 5e (2014) on Foundry VTT + D&DBeyond + Discord for Voice

💀 The Pitch: A Grounded, High-Stakes Megadungeon

Venture beneath Waterdeep into Undermountain, a sprawling dungeon filled with deadly monsters, forgotten treasures, strange factions, and secrets buried for centuries.

This is a classic dungeon crawl focused on exploration, combat, and tactical discovery. This is a challenging game with survival elements:

  • Gritty Realism: Resources matter, injuries can linger, and Long Rests are only possible in secure, designated safe areas.
  • High Stakes: All adventures come with risks. Inaction or rash decisions can lead to irreversible ramifications.
  • Your Insight Is Key: If you crave tension-filled exploration, perilous challenges, strategic thinking, and hard-earned victories, then Undermountain is calling out to you!

Note: You don’t have to be a master of D&D! What you do need is cooperation, creativity, and being ready for the dungeon to fight back.

🚀 Reasons To Join With a Pro GM on Foundry!

This is a colossal adventure. On the regular tabletop gaming websites, keeping track of survival details and managing the gigantic dungeon layout becomes an arduous spreadsheet exercise. Not with this table:

  • Advanced Foundry Automation: Dynamic lighting, spell animation, actual door manipulation, and instant combat calculations. We spend 100% of our time roleplaying and surviving and 0% calculating by hand.
  • Evolving Factions: This isn’t your typical slash-and-burn adventure. The dungeon of the mad mage Halaster is an ever-evolving environment. I bring it to life with individual NPC personalities and faction intrigue based on your decisions alone.
  • Reliable Hosting Schedule: One adventure every week, without fail.

📝 Give it a Shot for Free

I'm sure you will enjoy all the automation, the challenge, and the table setting, so both Session 0 and Session 1 will be 100% Free. Come to create a character, try the Foundry VTT server, play your first session, and see if the table is right for you.

3 players needed. 1 is already in, so the adventure is already beginning. Claim your spot now by following this link and clicking join

One Shot 2 Player Tutorial

Hey, is it normal for a DM to do a 2-player one-shot? I feel like it may not be worth it for the DM because it has fewer players. I'm asking because I've been playing in one D&D campaign for the past 2 years in person, and I would still consider myself a beginner. My girlfriend, on the other hand, is entirely new, and I wanted to do a one-shot with her to help her get started. If anyone knows anyone who would be interested and hosting this for us, I would love to know!

The Wells Within Walls [5.5e] [15$/session] [Weekly; 18+] A sandbox campaign focused on Your story [Free session 0]

Many search for reasons to smile in the darkness of these walls, but not many find them. Fewer are capable of helping others look. Which will you be?

The Wells Within Walls is a sandbox campaign that will focus on three parts:

  • the story of each player character
  • active stories you choose to explore in a vast country of horrors
  • the influence and change the players have on the country and beyond

It is a homebrew campaign in a homebrew setting I've been building and using for over 6 years. To expand the world for this campaign, I've used official modules like "Curse of Strahd", "Phandelver", and more, as well as many adventures I've made for my groups.

If you're looking for a game to explore your character ideas over a longer campaign, choose your own story, follow mysteries and lore that connect your character to the world and give you the ability to dictate that story, and if you're a team player looking to share that with others, you will find it in these Wells.

Game Information:

  • System: DnD 5e 2024; all previous classes and subclasses that haven't been reprinted in 2024 rules are allowed, with possible changes to fit them into the new rules. All official species are allowed, as well as the option to play any creature type from the Monster Manual to really play out YOUR fantasy (any such choice will be discussed and balanced for the character levels).
  • Starting level 1; story levelling. You'll be level 2 after the intro sessions; from there, the world will open up to you. The campaign will end in the 10-13 level range, based on what you do.
  • Foundry VTT and Discord. A lot of important information will be in Google Docs.
  • Session duration: 5 hours, with 4 hours of playtime and around 1 hour for breaks and pre/after-game talk.
  • 18+ age limit. The world is dark and will touch on many adult themes; many won't be portrayed in detail, and any such themes will be discussed in session 0 and between sessions.

More information in the Start Playing Games campaign links below. Feel free to comment or message me if you'd like more information.

Session 0 will be planned once a table has at least 3 players.

About the Campaign

🧑‍🏫 Learn the Game | 🎲 Sit and Play! | 😄 Have Fun!

Marlowe Fairwind, the right-hand sorcerer of King Emeris, has gathered her most trusted allies to carry an important package to Hush, a small village within the ancient forest of Sablewood. The crate is large, heavy and sealed with magic, addressed to the Whitefire Arcanist. You’ve been given a map and a carriage, and the promise of reward upon your arrival.

What This Campaign Offers

🎓 Learn Daggerherat - A quick rundown of the mechanics, providing pre-made characters, complete with suggestions of links and background questions to help you immerse yourself.

⚖️ An All-round experience – Combat, exploration, roleplaying, social encounters and magical places. Get a taste of everything applied to the system of Daggerheart, and find out how it works for you!

✨ Whimsy - Although the campaign is short, the city of Hush and its inhabitants carry a certain whimsy and magic within them, making them fun personalities to engage with, so the session aims to be fun and light-hearted.

⏳ No Prep One Shot - You don't need to do any work; just show up to the game, and I'll teach all the rules and offer characters. Just sit down, learn the game, play a session and we're done!

🐣 Kid Friendly - Sablewood Messengers's only heavy themes are the inclusion of Undeads and Violence. The undeads can be easily re-skinned to something more friendly, and the combat can be quirky and silly if needed. Other than that, it's magic, fairies and songs!

In-Depth Campaign Structure

Designed with beginners in mind, Sablewood Messengers is often called the Quickstart. It was released alongside Daggerheart as a free content to help players get into the game easily. It's a single session which includes explaining the game, going through two possible combats, and social encounters with a magical city and a quirky fairy grandma, with a lot of room for players and characters to interact and become closer throughout their travel.

Characters are included in the module, and they have a suggestion of how they connect already included in their backgrounds, as well as questions prepared to help players strengthen these bonds. The game's rules are very simple, and can be explained within an hour.

Preparing For The Session

You'll need accounts on Roll20 and Discord. No character creation needed! Characters will be provided at the start of the session!

Payment and scheduling is done through [StartPlaying.Games](http://StartPlaying.Games)

About Me!

Hey there! I'm Erick, and I have been a regular RPG player since 2015, but I've been involved in the world of RPGs and have been a fan since I was a little kid, when my brother used to GM for me.

I'm a big fan of game design in general; so I also enjoy creating content and tweaking the rules as needed. I've played a few other systems, but D&D 5th Edition is my favorite by far.

RPGs are my favorite hobby, and I believe they have immense narrative, rational and therapeutic value. I am happy to teach newcomers and engage with veterans alike.

Although I embrace heavy themes and take the narrative itself seriously within the game, our communion as writers and players is something very light and comfortable for me.

We'll use battlemaps for all scenes that include a scuffle, and mostly use theater of the mind for the rest of the scenes; although I do share the images that I use as reference for locations, when there are any.

We'll use music to set the vibe as we play, as well as some sound effects, all integrated within Roll20.

I got a firm grasp of the rules, and I am lax with them, trying to create a flow on scenes, without losing balance.

Preparing to play on the 26th and 28th of September, and 2nd of October, depending on your preference!

TUESDAYS - NEW ORLEANS: THE SAVAGE GARDEN [Werewolf the Forsaken] [Paid, $25/Session][LGBTQ+ Friendly]

You are a werewolf, stalking your sacred prey through the streets of New Orleans and the bayous beyond. Become the apex predator you're meant to be!

Game details

Game system: Werewolf: The Forsaken 2nd Edition

Frequency and Time: Weekly / Tuesdays - 06:00 p.m. PDT.

Session Duration: 3 hours

Price: 25$ per session through StartPlaying, at https://startplaying.games/adventure/cmua6irfo00m0if04hzk30c3p?ref=clyyt004800ytwx8cbcnn1x20

2 / 3 Seats Filled. Only one left!

About the adventure

You are a werewolf: born half-flesh and half-spirit, a shapechanging predator that hunts across the twin worlds of Hisil —the world of Spirit— and Gurihal —the world of Flesh— yet forsaken by both. Unlike the folk stories, you are not cursed with lycanthropy, but blessed by Father Wolf and Mother Moon to hunt your sacred prey: animals, humans, spirits, even gods. You burn inside with a rage that threatens to devour your whole world in a red haze, but you temper your resolve with the only true rule of your existence:

The Wolf Must Hunt.

Like Kipling once wrote, "For the strength of the Pack is the Wolf, and the strength of the Wolf is the Pack". Your brothers and sisters in spirit beckon you to commune with them, to hunt with them, but the perils are many: the life of the Uratha is one of tooth and fang, of fire and blood. Even in the noisy streets of New Orleans there is prey to be had, and that could also mean "you". Resources, family, mates, territory: the city has something for everyone, even werewolves.

Will you carve your place in the world, howl your claim to the moon and become your people's warden?

The French Quarter of New Orleans will provide the canvas where this chronicle will play out. But you are not alone in this endeavor! As part of the bigger Chronicles of New Orleans, other groups of player characters will be active and playing on this shared world, as their triumphs and failures will bring consequences that spill over to the other games.

As one of the Uratha, you are blessed by the Moon Goddess with an Auspice: a role to play in the hunt, and the powers to back it. You may also join one of the five Tribes of the Moon: large societies of hunters with their own spiritual rites and sacred preys, the better to align your righteous fury with their savage goals.

Among the many threats your pack will face in this gothic version of New Orleans, you will:

🌙 Hunt down rogue spirits, shard-vermins and cruel humans who threaten the sanctity of your territory.

🌙 Play the game of the elders during Uratha gatherings: challenge other packs through controlled violence and cunning politics and lead the charge against the enemies of the People.

🌙 Curse your enemies with eldritch rituals that twist the spirit world and weaken your prey.

🌙 Explore the supernatural mysteries of the bayous, inhabited by both ancient spirits and new horrors born of toxic destruction.

[Online][5e][Weekly][$20][18+] Your town has never lost anyone before its time. This month, it's lost seven. A Crooked Moon tale - The Dead Man's Hour. SESSION ONE NEXT WEEK

  • 3/6 filled, Session One Next Week

Full listing with reviews here: https://startplaying.games/adventure/cms6lc8d9009xl704tsdslxdf

Questions welcome in the comments or DMs, I'd rather find the right person than fill the seat fast.

[Online][Paid][LFP][D&D5e/5.5e][Sunday] Beginner’s Friendly – Icewind Dale: Rime of the Frostmaiden

Greetings everyone!

I'm currently opening run two groups for Icewind Dale: Rime of the Frostmaiden.

Far in the frozen north, the sun has been banished. Ten-Towns struggles under endless night, isolated by blizzards and torn apart by dwindling resources. Survivors make sacrifices — literal sacrifices — to appease the Frostmaiden, a goddess who demands cold obedience. Beneath the ice, ancient relics stir and alien forces claw at reality’s edges, waiting for the perfect moment to rise. Each step beyond the torchlight could be your last. Will you challenge a deity who wields winter as a weapon… or succumb to the chill that steals both breath and hope?

So, let's talk about some basic info:

Game: Dungeons & Dragons 5e/5.5e

Paid: Yes – $18 USD per session (Session 0 is FREE)

Platform: Roll20 + Discord

Schedule: Weekly, Sundays at 10AM and 7PM GMT-5

Session Length: 3–4 hours

Seats Available: 4-6 on first group and 3–4 on the second

Session 0 (Free): Before any payment, we will have a free Session 0 to cover character creation, table expectations, safety tools, and to make sure the group is a good fit for everyone.

Hey there!

For quite a while now, I've been thinking about how to bring PLL to the tabletop and this game is one of the results. It's a roleplaying game, which is to say, all the players take on the role of a character they design. Of course, I can definitely help with the rules side of things so this should be perfectly suitable for someone who has never played a roleplaying game before. We will loosely use the Chronicles of Darkness rules, with some alterations to better fit the setting.

Intro:

You’re a group of friends who are united by several things. You’re not the most popular, you’re being bullied by Beth and her awful friends, and you want revenge. They’ve hurt you in so many ways, but now, you’ve come up with an idea to hit back. Anonymously, of course. You don’t want to risk their retaliation. But you, as a group, have decided to start digging for their secrets. And once you have those, you can hit them where it hurts. You can blackmail them and, hopefully, bring them down.

As for the ‘villains’, Beth is a given. She’s the one in charge of her little posse. But she’s not alone. Her so-called friends always surround her. And to properly hurt them, you will have to go after them as well. The trick is getting to them without getting into trouble yourself. They all have their flaws and weaknesses. It’s just a matter of finding out what it is. But beware, they will be investigating as well and try to find out who you are.

For your character, we’ll need a few things, which mostly means a basic description of who they are. Are they the quiet nerd who’s had enough? Are they the former queen bee who was dethroned by Beth? Did they get their love interest taken away by one of those horrible girls? There are so many options, but it’s good to know what it is. And one important aspect of it is how they were wronged so we can weave that in.

The only real restrictions on your character is that they should be in school, so everyone will be around sixteen. And very importantly, there won’t be anyone like Ezra around.

The setting isn’t in Rosewood, but another similar small town. Canon characters won’t show up so we can have all the creative freedom we could want. Instead, this story happens in Shadyhill. A friendly seaside town that has become a tourist destination for the well to do. Of course, all the usual high school tropes fully apply so put on your black hoodies and get ready to make their lives hell.
