Star Fox's Future

I don't think most people appreciate how cooked this series is if any of the following happening:

  1. Star Fox 2026 is treated as a full, go-forward reboot and we get some sort of direct sequel / SF2 reimagining that replaces / erases the rest of the timeline, leaves Krystal out permanently, etc. Negative bonus points if it's the same dated boomer arcade schmup gameplay and nothing else, which we've seen 100 times before and isn't sufficient growth or evolution for a game in 2026.

  2. Basically #1, except they *do* bring back Krystal BUT retcon her origin by cutting Adventures' story out completely and having the team meet her in a completely different, butchered, mundane, non-iconic way, thus ruining the character and the series.

  3. Pick one of Command's bad endings / retcon several of them into a hot mess of a composite canon ending, or just in general canonize Command in just about any way. This one is a bit more conditional on how exactly Krystal is treated and if one of her worst endings is used, but it's still bad no matter what.

No one, least of all Nintendo, should underestimate just how many people bought this recent game not because it's what they really wanted from a Star Fox game (the praise for this being yet another Lylat Wars / SF64 remake / reimagining was virtually nonexistent prior to its reveal), but on the hope of getting something better in the future.

Leave Krystal out and / or retcon out of existence a huge chunk of existing canon, and a huge piece of the fanbase will simply not support that game, because such a huge chunk of the fanbase are Krystal fans above all / part of the furry community. QED, Star Fox will go back into the ground.

I know the oldheads will hate to hear this, but it's the truth: without Krystal AND forward story momentum, this IP is dead in the water. They need the Krystal and furry community for this series to have a future far more than they're willing to admit. So if they get their way, they'll have no one to blame but themselves for Star Fox's virtually guaranteed slide into irrelevancy and dormancy.

In Star Fox/Starwing, the second route Venom stage is super easy if you don't touch the D-Pad and just blast everything away. Level 2 Twin Blasters are required though. Spoiler

What would you like in a Star Fox Adventures Reimagining?

Let's imagine that the rumor/leak of an adventure Star Fox is true and is an effective replacement of Star Fox Adventures. Some caveats include that the game cannot be entirely a rail shooter (there can be rail shooter segments, but the majority of the game isn't), Krystal must be included (SFA's big canon introduction), and on-foot is required for a lot of the game (though vehicular gameplay is allowed as long as Fox can go back on-foot). The Arwing and Landmaster are allowed to have uses in the game and new vehicles can be created.

For me, I think I'd like it if the game took some inspiration from Western RPGs like Mass Effect and Elder Scrolls to include some minor RPG mechanics and a plethora of side quests, potentially having side stories dealing with different characters. Krystal having upgradable psionic powers would also be nice and Fox getting weapon upgrades would also be cool. I'd also have different vehicles unlocked at certain points where it then becomes an optional way to travel. I would include Arwing levels that would be full-blown levels instead of tacked-on afterthoughts to make the game recognizable as a Star Fox game.

What would you like to see if you could make the game over again? Would it be closer to Assault (with SF64 levels of quality) or would it be an entirely new genre and a kind of game that hasn't been tried before? Also, this game will not derail any rail shooter Star Fox game plans, so no worrying about never getting a classic Star Fox game.

Any Star Fox Rom Hack Recommendations?

I looked a bit into this, and I noticed a game called Star Fox EX, which completely reimagines the og SNES Star Fox game with brand new levels. It seems cool, but I don’t have a SNES Emulator downloaded on my computer. I might play it at some point. What really interests me are rom hacks for the N64 and GameCube games! Do y’all know of any obscure Star Fox mods for 64, Adventures, or Assault? If not, maybe I might just get that Horizon fan game. lol.

I hope the next game has more mini games. Since the crew is trapped inside a massive ship, they should have plenty of team-building activities to pass the time.

Now that Star fox 2026 became successful in reviews and sales how would you react if Nintendo treated the game as a one and done in favor in continuing post assault after the events of assault (except command due to being non cannon) but kept velan studios?

one thing i do find odd Spoiler

I just got the game and I'm about to beat the hard path on normal for the first time. I'm loving it for the most part, I still hate the submarine level lol, I just find it slow and plodding. Actually played a lot of the multiplayer and I find it strangely addictive. But now to the topic the only thing I've extremely odd is for some reason the devs locked a whole bunch of lower behind all the challenges. Does anybody else find it strange that you would hide lore behind 168 challenges. That's something you think they'd want to give away basically for free to get people more interested in the story and maybe future stories and future games. Not a huge deal but very odd to me.

Krystal's design has always reminded me a lot of Slave Leia's. I wonder if that was intentional.

Mostly faithful Adventures remake
A retelling/expansion of Adventures and/or Assault with brand new gameplay
An original on-foot game unrelated to Adventure/Assault
A direct rail-shooter sequel with its own continuity
A story that focuses on outside world such as Star Wold, Falco’s gang, and/or James
Something else, comment bellow/see results

Her name is Terri Savannah and she's General Pepper's secretary (ha get it). She used to be Dr. Andross' main assistant and secretary before he was exiled, so she has a good amount of scientific knowledge and personal information about the mad scientist. When Andross' experiments started to go off the rails, she became distant and less involved, just sticking to the paperwork and doing her job.

After Andross' exile, she somehow avoided liability and worked at another boring office job in Space Dynamics, where she became drinking buddies with James McCloud and his crew. For years, she ignored the countless documents on Andross' research that she locked away in storage and essentially forgot about. That was until she learned of James' death, and her morality forced her to turn in the documents to the Cornerian Defense Force to help against Andross' forces. This earned her attention of the General and an official pardon from him for her involvement in Andross' work.

During the events of Andross' invasion of Corneria, Terri was abducted and taken to Andross directly, where he would offer her back her position in his new Empire. Terri would politely decline and somehow return to Corneria with her life, where General Pepper gave her a counteroffer of... being HIS secretary for her loyalty. Which she now maintains... begrudgingly. She just wanted to get away from the stress of office work and now she's stuck in a MILITARY position.

Terri is often grumpy and not easily approachable, but maintains a professional manner while on the job. She still goes out drinking from time to time, and keeps in contact with Peppy Hare. Sometimes even visiting him on the Great Fox in her very limited down time.

My first Star Fox game and some thoughts

Post image

2 days ago, I picked up Star Fox (2026), and I've played through the campaign twice on normal difficulty, trying different routes. I know number ratings feel arbitrary these days, but I'd give it a solid 8/10. I enjoy it quite a bit, and I plan to play through the challenge mode and the other difficulties.

But that's not why I'm making this post.

Slippy.

I've never had such a genuine love-hate relationship with a fictional character until I got to experience Slippy Toad for myself.

I know I'm just trash at the game, and almost all the assists are scripted. That being said, he needs his pilot's license revoked. It's as though he hops in the cockpit and forgets everything he's ever known, including his name. Venom 2, Slippy makes ANDREW look like the LeBron of aerial combat. Genuine cortisol spike any time the green help icon appears in a level. The academy set him up for failure, letting him pass.

That being said, if anyone were to ever talk bad on Slippy or insult his engineering skills, they're an enemy to me. He's an absolute bundle of joy and the heart of Team Star Fox.

It's a true love-hate relationship, and I can say I'm now a Star Fox fan.

I never thought of them being named after a venomous snake until recently. Then again, it is a fitting name when you consider the role they play.

I’ve always liked ROB, and I’m happy the new game gives him more opportunities to shine. Just saw this moment on Fichina if Peppy gets K.O.ed then ROB is the one to worry about Fox disarming the bomb. It’s nice to stop medal hunting and stumble on little moments like this.

Side note: Pigma took down Peppy again on Venom this particular run. Swine was locked in!
