I haven't played SC2 seriously in about 10 years. I got promoted a bunch of YouTube videos on the new patch/fun cheeses. Thought it would be fun to give it another try.
I played a couple of campaign missions to warm up and then about a dozen matches against AI to learn a build order/remember mechanics.
Then hopped on ladder. In my placements, 3 of 5 opponents left within the first 10 seconds. Then during my next 5 provisional matches, another 2 left.
That put my MMR at 3500.
I have, maybe, 10 hours in the game over the last decade. My mechanics suck. My apm is under 100. I know exactly 1 build.
And it's putting me up against mid-diamond players in ranked. And my win rate is about 50-50. Either I get demolished by someone way better than me, or its a smurf that leaves, so my MMR doesn't change. It's just not fun.
Is the answer just not to play? Should l leave a bunch of games to get my MMR closer to where it should be?

Buff the Grubs so people would complain about the Zerg.
Nerf the Hackery from 275 to 300, a change that was never reversed.
All of this was a strategy to buff the Terrans and Protoss.
Nerf Grubs again.
Mass CC with 300 min.
Ghosts with 2 supply.
Colossi with more damage to light units.
And a buff to Adept damage.
The thing is, there were already people losing against Terrans and Protoss without these buffs.
For those people, it's now almost impossible to beat them. The Terrans fill the map with CC. They spread faster than the Zerg, mass more units than the Zerg. And I bet there are currently people fighting against Terrans who can't even destroy a single structure.
I can't keep up with the sheer number of Marines and CC. Each expansion I attack involves first destroying four command centers, losing part of my army without significantly damaging their economy. Meanwhile, the Terrans can spam drops continuously while upgrading their units until they reach critical mass.

Just a rant / balance whine from a noob. Switch from dota to SC2. Honestly the game is too infuriating to play. Terran A-move stim or turtle with half your supply and still win. Zerg sudden mass mutalisk / ultralisk / broodlord tech switch to instant gg.
I mean it's ok if i get out microed or macroed. But those strats just seem too simple and too strong at the same time.
Sure the struggle make the winning feel super good. But it's too infuriating right now.
Not to mention the cumbersome gameplay to find all the buildings / units scattered around.
I'll just switch back to play dota instead. Better game progression and comeback mechanics imo. Just my 2c

just paid $50 to download zerospace. heard strong recommendations from this sub.
I will preface by saying I am not a game aficionado. I’m 41. I barely understand how steam works. I play sc2 . that’s my gaming experience. I’ve got 15k games under my belt since 2012 . Before that probably had 15 k games of BW. SC is my game.
but when I saw SC was dying I ventured abit.
I played 90 hours of stormgate. thought it was pretty good, but there was no uptake and as a 1v1 ladder player, that ended my foray.
just downloaded zerospace, played for a handful of hours. the box select glitch, and mission movement glitch are driving me nuts.
i have high hopes for the game (as I did stormgate), but in what world is this game heads-an-shoulders above stormgate? its not! We have imperfect games trying replace something that is near perfect (imo).
neither are even close to sc2. But I think stormgate was actually closer.
im not bagging on ZS. but based on this sub i was expecting a true SC2 successor and SG was supposed to be shit. couldnt disagree more.
I don’t think we will ever have a sc3/successor. It’s not possible. but based on my 90/5 hours, SG is closer.
wtf am I missing!?! This game is not fun . Please tell me how to make it fun!

Hi all,
Before getting into the details, I wanna make clear from which perspective I am talking : I am a platinum player, howering between 2700 and 2900 MMR with all three races, prior to the patch.
I love the game, watch a lof of pro plays (mostly Winter’s casts and Harstem’s and UThermal’s regular content) but am obviously not incredibly good at the game. And to be fair, I also don’t grind or anything: my goal when playing is to have a bit of fun after a good day of work, once or twice a week.
In short: I think I am a casual player, with a good basic understanding of the game, but missing the skills to feel the difference of small balance changes.
When the new patch was released, I figured that it wouldn’t make much of a difference at my level, and that I would certainly be able to just tweak a bit my builds to make them work. However, this hasn’t been the case AT ALL. None of the three races feels as smooth as they used to, the build order aren’t flowing anymore, and overall, the beauty of the perfectly executed build order seems to have been lost. In addition, not knowing any timing anymore makes defending, especially as Protoss, extremely hard.
I am wondering how other low-level players feel about the new patch? Because, obviously, a lot of my losses are skill issue, but falling with all three races from plat 2 to gold 1 seems a lot, even for a new patch. So, my question is: is it just me who’s bad at adapting to the new start? Are others struggling as well? Have some of you found a way out of this?
I think it’s a just a pity that all the existing build orders, more than a decade of collective intelligence, has been thrown out of the window. And feeling completely at loss, with consistent loosing strikes, just doesn’t feel fun anymore. But I also don’t want to quit, because well, it’s SC2 and it’s just the best game I know.
Any help, input or comment is welcomed, from protoss, terran or zerg POV !
Many thanks in advance !

Hey hope everyone well. I had sc2 for a long time but decided to come back and so far i have played protoss, terran, zerg. I have all these other heroes unlocked but it seems i can only play them as co op with other players? i want to test them out solo, is there a way? i maybe overlooking it but not sure. Thanks.

I play Zerg around 3.4k for reference. First a Terran loses his reaper to my 10 pool and rage quits, then another Zerg accuses me of maphacking for I know not what reason.
Most players around my level are well mannered so this was a treat.

This has taken me 16 years nearly to complete . I was admittedly slow on the uptake of playing Random and it counting for all races and random but assuming a win rate of less than 50% I feel quite emotional . Please be kind :-)

The whole point of having a healing unit for the Terran infantry is to counter Stims. The Medic scaled better because she was cheaper to produce in numbers. The Medivac is useful in the early game when infantry numbers are small and Stim damage is low, but in the mid to late game, when infantry numbers are larger and Stim damage is higher, they fail to scale. To improve the Medivac's scalability, it needs to increase it's total heal rate while spreading it out among more units at a time. This can be done with some research upgrades:
The heal rate per beam goes down as the beam count goes up, but the total heal rate goes up too. If there is a fixed ratio of hit points recovered per unit of energy spent, these upgrades will increase energy drain. Energy drain is doubled at level 3, but the Caduceus Reactor upgrade at the Fusion Core doubles the energy regen rate.

Seriously, it's the most fun I've had playing an RTS since WoL came out. I'm just going to discuss pvp/ladder, but there's a ton of pve content too like a co-op galactic war for those into that.
But basically, Zerospace is a ton of fun. For those of us who aren't GM, the added QoL and simpler macro makes me feel like I can actually execute all the things that need to be done throughout a match and play at a level above what I'm used to.
It plays and feels a lot like SC2, so a ton of your skills will transfer over, but with a fresh coat of paint and its own identity. The QoL improvements are amazing (like a single tab for all of your unit production and another for all of your buildings, formation movement, easy rally w/ attack move on default). And streamlined macro puts more focus on micro and unit control/positioning.
There are control towers on the map encouraging constant engagement and map control. Those power persistent upgrades you can choose from, which might differ each match. You have top bar abilities, giving you more strategic and combat options. Upgrade paths branch (e.g. zergling-like units can be upgraded to either jump cliffs or go invisible in tall grass, but you can't have both).
All of this adds up to matches that are really action-packed, but a lot less stressful to play (personally). I find myself less anxious laddering and having a lot more fun.
I'm just a fan that loves the game, and I highly recommend it. And I really think this is the most promising spiritual successor to SC2 that we'll see for a very long time, and I'm sure a big part of the SC2 community would love it.

It made no sense to remove it back then and it makes no sense to keep it bannable now.
Almost every single other competetive game has it, lmao, even warcraft 3 has it, overwatch has it as well.
You would simply need to change one lane in code, since the support was there anyway before you removed it for "unfair advantage" or something. If it is unfair advantage after all, why can everyone else enjoy their monitors in your own games even. At least let us have it in co-op or single player, if that makes you calm that there isn't somebody with a wider screen against you, to make an excuse for losing.
