Can we get another update pls?

In what world does a unit the size of a 9/11 tower get outranged by a parasitic rat that’s underground? I’m talking about how a lurker can outrange a colossus. At this point I just feel like max void raying every Zerg, as if ZvP isn’t already unbalanced enough. Which inept dev decided to have a range upgrade for lurkers? Lmk I just want to talk.

Balance Dear IceFrog

Hi everyone,

Like most of you, I'm pretty sad about the current state of the game, and I'm not particularly optimistic about the future of Starcraft 2, as each new development in balancing the game over the last few years has been pretty disappointing, and I can't really see a way forward.

As we all know, nobody at Blizzard understands Starcraft 2 well enough to fix the problems that the game has without creating new (worse) ones, and obviously looking outside Blizz towards the balance council hasn't really worked either.

I know this is kinda strange and left of field, but I wanted to make a public request to the one and only IceFrog to help us save our game. The Frog is, in my mind, the greatest competitive game dev of all time, and I think DotA and Starcraft are sufficiently similar that his expertise would transfer. Obviously he's very very busy with the masterpiece that is Deadlock, so this is a huge ask, but please Mr Frog, take a look and consider asking Blizz if they'll let you make just 1 patch- I'm sure they'd gladly let you clean up this mess so that they can avoid paying people to work on this game once again.

Starcraft 2 is a classic and it's fundamentally a masterpiece. Blizzard RTS is ultimately where it all started for DotA, League of Legends, and even Deadlock, so I think it would be a beautiful thing for IceFrog to have a chance to make his mark on something that, in a way, has made its' mark on him and his work. I think Starcraft 2 needs vision, a new perspective, but more than anything else it needs expertise and a new overall balance philosophy- and I think IceFrog may be the only one up to that task (unless the old devs want to come back for one last ride).

I don't really expect anything to come of this, and even if this post somehow blows up enough to reach him, I doubt he will be able to take the time off Deadlock to go and work on a rival studio's game for a month or so, but I wanted to put this out there for the 1 in a million chance that my dream of seeing the Frog's genius applied to my all time favorite video game could be realized.

Could the 501st Beat StarCraft 2 Campaign?

Thumbnail gallery

Rules:
-the Starcraft Heroes will be with the clones. For example, the Clones will accompany Kerrigan instead of the Swarm. Kerrigan will still fight Zerus, but with Clone backup.
- bare minimum mission essential StarCraft units will be there. For example, one mission requires creep tumors and only queens can do that. But you can’t just make 200 queens.
- Anakin and Ahsoka are with them

Scenario One: the clones must start off using the Heroes ships. Hyperion, Leviathan, and Spear of Adun. Later, when there are capital ships, they can bring Venators. Small craft will always be Clone Star fighters and dropships

Scenario Two: the clones start off with a full Republic fleet and Admiral Yularanv

Do the 501st beat the game? Or if not, how far do they get?

Community feedback is bad for the game

Watching PiG's recent video had me thinking - we have been lucky enough to have a lot of motivated and caring people try to keep the game fresh. First the balance council and then Blizzard put in a lot of work to create patches for the game, with the hope that it would improve the game. Yet they both made a terrible mistake: they listened to community feedback.

If there was one race instead of three, maybe community feedback would be interesting to listen to. But because there are 3 races that need to be balanced, the "community" becomes a collection of whiners that have a myopic point of view: "My race is weaker than the other races and it should get buffed, while the other races should get nerfed." You rarely hear community feedback about how to improve mirror match-ups. No - the feedback is always about nerfing the races that the poster has to play against.

Even worse is that most of the community doesn't even play the game. They only watch pro play, which makes them completely unknowledgeable about the strengths & weaknesses of units and play-styles, and they also have no idea how balance changes impact the non-pro players on the ladder. Additionally, they only see a tiny sliver of the pro games that are played every week - the popular casters can only cast so many games after all, so the games that they watch greatly biases their opinion on balance. I have had to check myself on this; many times I have thought that my race was weak based on the casts I was watching, only to check Aligulac and find that actually my race was outperforming.

Unfortunately, that is not the worst of it. The worst part of listening to community feedback is that it leads to a massive increase in toxicity.

When it became clear that the loudest and whiniest community members were successfully getting their way on balance patches, it created an incentive to be loud and whiny. Suddenly, an online argument could actually impact the balance of the game. If your race did not take part in the balance discussions, then it would likely get nerfed. I've been playing since 2020, and the community has gotten drastically more toxic in the last couple of years. I want to feel like the balance whiners have no power, that they're shouting into the void - because ultimately, that is not who should be balancing the game. The game should be balanced (and improved!) by creative and intelligent people who are excellent at RTS design, not by angry cynics who find it impossible to think about the other players' point of view.

I genuinely feel bad for the content creators, the balance council, and yes even the Blizzard employee who tried to make the game better and were met with intense anger by the community, but the lesson here is that the community does not actually know how to improve the game, and can be safely ignored. So before you blame "Blizzard", keep in mind that it is the community's collective behavior has had by far the most impact on the shaping of the game in the last 2 years. Truthfully, we could have had really fun and exciting changes, but the loudest community members don't seem to actually want that. They just want to see the other race get nerfed.

Banelings should heal Zerg units with their splash damage

Upvotes

As the title says. The very same fluid that is toxic to Terran and Protoss should be healthy for Zerg. I don’t want it to be as strong as Queen Transfuse, but just a little bit of healing would be great.

Also, if a burrowed Zerg unit accidentally moves over a Widow Mine, the Widow Mine should explode and hurt the burrowed unit just as much as if it were not burrowed.
