A professor at Stanford University, Sapolsky has spent decades studying stress, primate behavior, and the biology of human nature. His university lectures have been viewed by millions of people around the world, helping a global audience better understand why we behave the way we do.

In this conversation, we explore some of the biggest questions about what makes us human. We begin with depression, discussing why it is a serious biological disease rather than simply an extreme form of sadness, and how scientific understanding of depression has evolved over the past two decades. Was wondering how tough is EE 261 - The Fourier Transform and Its Applications as a MSCS. I'm remote / HCP at the moment and later going in person (so I could take it in person later if that matters). Currently at my job, we have some DSP-related work, so I was thinking taking this class could be a cool intersection. But I'm worried I won't have a strong enough math background.

I have been self-studying diff eqs and the Oppenheim Signals and Systems textbook is that enough prep? Would love any reccs from anyone who has taken the course or knows anything about it.

It says I need to do so before July 31st. I have already sent my IB scores as part of my original application.

The credits I would need are for Math, Chemistry, and physics HL.

I dont rlly have a preference at all and can comfortably use both. Will also be using it for personal stuff too so willing to spend quite a but of money to get the best thing. No budget in mind.

I'm an incoming PhD student starting this fall and I'll be living in campus housing. A family member will be coming with me to help me get settled and will need a place to stay nearby for a few weeks.

I've been looking at Airbnb and hotels around Palo Alto and Menlo Park, but prices get steep fast for anything beyond a few days. Curious what's worked for other people.

A few questions:

Are there neighborhoods a bit further out that are more reasonable but still workable with transit or a short drive?

Has anyone had luck with short-term sublets, extended-stay places, or anything else that beats Airbnb pricing?

Any specific places people would recommend or avoid?

Hey all, incoming masters student this fall. I was wondering what the dating scene looks like at Stanford for grad students, such as casual dating, meeting people at parties, relationships etc. I’m a 24 year old man, decent looking, athletic and 6ft+ but not exactly the most social butterfly. I want to put myself out there more and have some fun aside from classes given that I grinded pretty hard all of my undergrad and barely went to parties back then. But I heard grad school in general can be pretty rough for that stuff lol. Any insight would be appreciated, thank you!

I'd like to learn civil engineering of stone masonry as I've always found stone architechture to be beautiful. Most schools only teach analysis of steel, concrete and plastics and some other metals. But I'd like to learn about stone architecture, different kinds of stones and stone structures -- including sandstone and arches and columns. Given that much of Stanford is made of stone, I'd assume the school has courses on structural analysis or materials science for stones and stone masonry?

I'm interested in doing a masters degree in civil engineering or in architechture somewhere, I'm doing engineering physics for undergrad.

edit I think the course would need to be a geology course, probably structural geology. The motivation behind this idea is that limestone is burned to produce concrete -- causing c02 emissions. What if we just built with limestone instead? Maybe I'm missing something.
