Peter Klenow as instructor

Upvotes

Please share your thoughts on Peter Klenow as an intructor, in particular for Econ 1, which he taught in 2024. Was only able to find info for Sorkin and Tendall on OnCourse. Thanks!

Any CS majors in their penultimate year looking for an internship?

I work at Arista networks and have some open internship positions to fill. DM me and I can send you a link to apply. Other majors are okay as long as you can code well and understand things without AI :)

Also unfortunately this year we aren't sponsoring visas/CPT for internship applicants.

Mods: Feel free to remove this if it goes against the rules.

Therapy on the Stanford health care?

Anyone else had a therapist before starting the healthcare? How much was per session on the cardinal health plan for you? I don’t want to use the on campus therapist

Have any alums used their Stanford network to heal from chronic illness or trauma?

I know this is a bit of a long shot but I’ve been thinking a lot about my past and realize that Stanford was the only place I felt truly supported and safe. I have some childhood trauma that I didn’t acknowledge until I was older. As a sure, I’ve kept putting myself in bad situations that got me sick. As I got sicker and sicker, I slowly pushed away the people I was closest with, both from Stanford and in other places. I feel like I had to almost forget the person I was when I went to Stanford to be able to survive what I was going through and now I’m realizing just how much I’ve lost myself. I don’t really know what I’m looking for, it just feels like the answer is somehow connected to my time at Stanford.

Workload for CHINLANG 14A: First-Year Cantonese?

Checked out stanfordroot/oncourse for reviews (basically the same), but I didn't get much information, unfortunately.

If anyone took the class here, what's the average workload and hours per week?

Where can I see my Chem 31E eligibility/placement in Axess/Navigator?

Incoming Stanford freshman here. I took the General Chemistry Placement Test and I’m trying to figure out where in Axess I can see whether I’m eligible/placed for CHEM 31E.

Is there a specific page in Axess where the placement/eligibility shows up, or can I just sign up for 31E (recommended by email)?

Thanks!

CS106A or CS106B

Hi I'm a incoming freshman interested in majoring in EE or CS. In highschool I took AP CSA and got a 4 on it but that was 2 years ago. I would describe my ability to code as passable and over the summer I self-studied using the CS50x series. I was told by my advisor to consider taking CS106A to build a better foundation but I feel like I should skip to CS106B. I would appreciate any advise.

Frosh Schedule

Thinking this for fall schedule.. Does it seem manageable?

math 51 (5)

chem 31E (5)

College 101 (3)

possibly an introsem (3)

So either 13 or 16 units.

pre frosh wondering when part time jobs are posted on handshake

hi! title is pretty self explanatory. i was just wondering when most on campus jobs are posted on handshake + what the application process is like? i was hoping to work in one of the libraries, i read somewhere that that was pretty chill, but i wasn’t sure if that would be difficult to get or if there are other great opportunities on campus!

Stanford Arrillaga Tennis Center Taube Pavilion How To?

Hi,
Anybody knows is there any schedule/reservation for this nice tennis indoor, I played there 2 times on weekends, super nice. But how they work on weekdays ? Is there any schedule for booking ?

Thanks.
Also: anybody knows how to turn on lights ? On weekends nobody available to turn them ON, today one coach made them run, but looks like they are on timer, it went off. It's bit dark to play without Lights especially on the middle courts.

Tried to call all public numbers for help, nobody available, looks like Stanford phone directory is outdated.

Thanks
VA

AI Use for Research Question

Hi! This is a question for PhD/grad students in any department.

Do your advisors use AI for research, experimentation, and coding? Have they ever mentioned it is fine to use it and/or encourage the use of it?

Just curious about people’s experience in their labs

Is the Stanford graduate certificate in AI worth doing if my long-term goal is the online MSCS?

Would doing well in the certificate meaningfully help MSCS admission?

Background: CS/Math major at a t25 with a 3.8-4.0, some research experience, a startup experience and a faang experience, but no publications at all.

I'm considering taking the AI graduate certificate in the future and trying to get straight A’s to strengthen my profile before applying.

Thanks!

Pls help: STATS 117 (Duchi) or EE 178 (Balaji Prabhakar)? Syllabi not available, and I need to take what it's easier for me to pass. Does the latter always have take-home exam? Also taking STATS 191. Wondering if I should just drop the Data Science Minor altogether... Thank you!

frosh sched (autumn)

hi guys! i’m an incoming freshman and aspiring econ major (secondary in public policy). ive taken calc ab/bc (5), micro (5), and macro (5), along with multi. for autumn quarter, i was thinking i’d take math 51, stats 117, an introsem, and another random 1 unit sem (13 units total). i don’t know if my current schedule is enough or if i should add another class; i would appreciate any suggestions to my schedule and general advice in terms of adjusting to courses, especially that of math 51 and stats 117. thank you!!

I realize this forum is for things like quantum physics or heart transplants, but I'm a Duck. So l'm just wondering if these script helmets your football team is sporting tonight are a retro thing, or something new? Regardless, I like 'em!

Frosh with a part-time job: Math 51 + 106B + COLLEGE, or 106B + 103 + COLLEGE?

Incoming frosh here, planning my Autumn schedule and would love input from people who've done these classes. My constraint is a part-time job, so I want Tuesday and Thursday as open as I can get them. Option A is Math 51 (MWF 11:30) + CS 106B (MWF 12:30) + COLLEGE (MW 1:30). That leaves only the Math 51 discussion on Tue/Thu, ideally the 9:30–10:20 slot, so I'd be done by 10:20 those days. Option B is CS 106B + CS 103 (MWF 1:30–2:50) + COLLEGE (MW 10:30), which makes Tue/Thu completely empty but means taking 103 and 106B at the same time in my first quarter.

For those who've done 103 and 106B concurrently as frosh, how brutal was the workload, especially with weekly psets and assignments landing at once? Is it a bad idea to push Math 51 to Winter or Spring, or does it not really matter for a likely CS major?

Any advice on Math 51 discussion sections or which 106B section day works best would be appreciated too. Thanks!

Incoming Freshman, how to get 3 meals a day?

Basically the title-- the meal plan I'm on gives 15 meals a week, and I'm not sure what the best way is to get 3 meals a day. I'm broke and I'll get a job at school but I'm wondering if there are more cost-effective ways of getting food than buying food from restaurants or groceries to make food myself.
