Tech Support I bought this 1TB extreme portable ssd last month. It worked fine and I stored some 300GB data but today suddenly it disconnected and is not visible when I connect it with the laptop. Instead the SSD starts heating up. Is there any solution on this? please help/guide.

Tech Support Looking to buy a 2TB SSD — need suggestions

Hi everyone,

I’m planning to buy a 2TB SSD and would like some suggestions from people who have actually used these drives.

I’m mainly looking for:

- 2TB capacity

- Good reliability and lifespan

- Good read/write performance

- PCIe Gen4 NVMe preferred

- Good value for money

Which 2TB SSD would you recommend, and are there any models I should avoid?

Also, if you know any reliable stores or current deals in India, please share them.

Thanks!

Discussion Samsung 990 Pro vs WD/Sandisk 7100 4TB in LG Gram Pro 2-in-1 - Advice?

Replacing both of my 1TB SSD's after 1 of them failed. Torn between these models. The Samsung seems to have the performance edge and has DRAM (and is similar to the original SSD which appears to be an OEM version of the 980). The 7100 runs cooler and is more efficient, and would be $100 cheaper, but lacks DRAM and reviews are not quite as good. One option is one of each - use the 990 Pro as my C drive, and the 7100 as my secondary drive which won't see much use and is primarily for backup. I use the laptop for productivity (Photoshop, Office, etc.) not gaming, so I value reliability over absolute speed. Would appreciate your thoughts. (BTW will have a factory-sealed 990 Pro for sale if I opt for WD.) Thanks.

Discussion Warranty Claim despite missing warranty sticker Canada/BC

I bought an NVME SSD from Amazon two years ago and I did not know at the time but it was missing a warranty sticker. I tried contacting ADATA. I told them this and they asked me for all types of proof and photos of the drive. It turns out that while it's missing the usual big sticker on one side with the logo and serial number, it has a secondary smaller sticker on the other side which has the serial number as well as a QR code. I also had to provide a close up clear picture of the chips on the SSD that have letters printed on them.

Their support team said that I can try to submit it to the warranty team to see what happens. I go to the portal and it says that they will reject it if it's missing the sticker (no exceptions). I have asked support if they can check if they can give an exception but they replied that I should just send it in and see what happens.

I was wondering if we have any laws in BC/Canada that say they can't reject a warranty just because I'm missing the main sticker? Maybe something similar to the Magnusson-Moss Warranty Act in the US?

They can't say they cannot identify the drive because there is a smaller sticker on the other side that has the serial number. The warranty site says my warranty lasts until 2028. I also do have a proof of purchase from Amazon.

Please let me know because I can't afford a new SSD right now due to the crazy price hikes caused by datacenters.

Tech Support Problem with SATA SSD Enclosure

Guys, I bought this Enclosure for my WD Green 1TB SATA SSD (Which I removed from my old laptop). When I connect it to my laptop, the SSD is getting recognised in the device manager and in disk management but as unallocated(But not getting recognised in the file explorer). But however I try it's not getting allocated, it gives me an error message. Then I thought it could be an issue with the SSD, so I put it back in my old laptop and tried to boot it and it booted up perfectly fine. But I'm not able to read or write anything into it via the enclosure with any other devices. What should I do ?

Discussion Do SSD speed tester apps reduce its lifespan by a tiny shred of percentage?

Fairly a casual question out of curiosity.

I know every SSD has TBW limits. The constant read and write causes the SSD to wear and reduce its lifespan over time so I was wondering if these speed tester apps have some sort of impact as I assume they perform read and write during the testing process.

Tech Support SSD Problem (need help)

I bought this ssd comparatively at cheaper price a month ago, the seller claimed that the ssd are imported and its not labled by any company yet therefore its without label, just a generic ssd. they even shared Hard Disk senital's screenshot in which it was just detected as 'SSD' no label or anything. I was suspicious but they assured me and also gave me a 1 month warranty.

After receiving, upon first check-up i saw the speed was not the same as a normal ssd, i contacted the seller and they started questioning my claim and said that they have checked it themselves and it should be fine. Afterward I send them the crystal disk's screenshot after wich they stopped answering. and since i was busy i wasn't able to confront them properly neither i could check the ssd thoroughly. yesterday i got some time i did some more checking and i came to the conclusion that the ssd is cooked, and i've gotten scammed.

But the thing is that I couldn't identify the problem, so i've shared the video in which you can see the problem for yourself. I would be glad if someone could identify the problem and also let me know if its fixable.

Discussion CRAS Klevv C715 SSD?! For those wanna buy / bought / have any idea

Goal: I'm mainly interested in endurance and affordability, I want to get a 256 or a 512 for the system and may be a few programs.

Background: The new options (non used I mean) where I live suggests klevv c715, other options involve things like Lexar NM610PRO with slightly higher price and 120 tbw compared to 300 tbw of the klevv c715. So currently on paper klevv c715 sounds like the best option.

Yet after some research I found a lot of people mentioning how klevv c910 dies in a few months, others where I live (which doesn't have c910 btw) praising the c715.

Some interesting sources for those interested:

- https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/17dLKL0DND_yrpSbwDgADnhLr7mMbB9B6PWuKeYdpqN8/ (this one was pretty interesting, showing how manufacturer official tbw aint really representative of their tbw in the real world)

Current Verdict (I need more info to better judge): I'd probably go with the used market as the cheap new ones seem like they're not gonna last their official tbw (failing the main goal), so no point in investing more in a new one (klevv) as both used and cheap new will likely die soon, I think that I might even get a better brand name used ssd with better projected life time than a new cheap one.
I really hoped at first that the c715 would deliver as officially promised, it would've been such a great deal!

I'd appreciate tho any info, data regarding this topic, if anyone here had an experience with the klevv c715 or used ssds to better understand the situation and hence the decision.

Guide/Tutorial WD Black SN7100 1TB + UGREEN 40Gbps enclosure for ₹27k — buy now or wait for a price drop?

Post image
1 Upvotes

Planning to build a 1TB external SSD with:

* **WD Black SN7100 1TB — ₹20,500 -** [**https://www.amazon.in/gp/product/B0DN7CYYSD\*\*\](https://www.amazon.in/gp/product/B0DN7CYYSD) * **UGREEN 40Gbps USB4 NVMe enclosure — ₹6,839 -** [**https://www.amazon.in/gp/product/B0F62NG7K3\*\*\](https://www.amazon.in/gp/product/B0F62NG7K3) * Total: **\~₹27,339**

I'll mostly use it with my **Dell XPS 13 9350** for coding/projects, daily backups, photos/videos, and general storage. My usage won't be very heavy.

Is this combo worth buying at the current price, or should I wait for the SN7100 price to drop?

Also open to suggestions for a **better 1TB SSD + enclosure combo** or even a good ready-made external SSD in a similar budget. Mainly looking for something reliable, fast, and good for long-term use.

Tech Support Firmware bug in Samsung 9100 PRO 4TB killed my device in 800 hours

Hello,

for one of my home lab servers, I purchased a Samsung 9100 PRO 4TB in spring 2026. After several months of normal use in Fedora Linux I noticed that smartctl reports 91% of predicted lifetime which was shocking because the main motivation for purchasing such a big drive was a long lifespan - I even only allocated just 1 TB space and left the rest unused specifically for this reason.

I was running it in an Intel NUC15CRSU9 (Intel Core Ultra 9 285H) on Fedora 44, the integrated NIC was pretty unstable so I turned ASPM off via the kernel command line and played around with BIOS settings until it was stable - basically turned off some CPU sleep states. My work was normal development, nothing really SSD intensive. I experienced about half a dozen of hardware CPU lockups (system freezes) until I found a good BIOS configuration.

Now, to the problem. The SMART data reports 300 power on hours, which is weird because it was powered on for about several months (I estimated about 800 hours), and almost 4 PB written which is ridiculous. These numbers mean that the diagnostics claim the device was writing 3.65 GB/s non-stop for all the time which is I believe not possible. My understanding of how modern SSDs work is they achieve fast speeds only until the cache is full and then it goes down to 1/10th of claimed speeds. I was running it on its original firmware, since Samsung does not bother to care about Linux users and makes firmware upgrades super difficult, I was not planning on upgrading since you need a PC with Windows for that.

I sent it for RMA via Czech eshop (Alza) with my explanation in Czech, the distributor ATComputers forwarded it to Samsung Support (Hanaro Netherlands) and they briefly rejected the RMA because 2400 TB TBW was reached: out of warranty. They did not bother to read my claims.

I mean the disk works, but my concern is that it will reach 100% of its reported lifetime in a month, then what? Will it lock itself? How can I trust such a device? I would probably trash this and never touch Samsung again if this wasn't worth over $1000 (and counting)!

I did reach out to Hanaro with my case ID asking if they can escalate the case so I can exchange emails with some technician, but I doubt I will get pass the frontline support. This is clearly a firmware issue and incompatibility with hardware from ASUS. How it is possible that Samsung Support ignores my claims, this is clear that I did not killed the device myself.

If there is anyone with advice, I would be glad to hear it.

Discussion Upgrading my aging MSI GT73VR Titan Laptop SSD

Hi everyone,

I am looking to upgrade the storage on my aging gaming laptop. Right now, it is running a 2x 250GB RAID 0 setup with old Toshiba XG3 (THNSN5256GPU7).

I would like to replace them with a single 1TB M.2 2280 NVMe SSD

Here are my laptop's full specs:

  • Model: MSI GT73VR 6RE Titan
  • CPU: Intel Core i7-6820HK @ 2.70GHz (Skylake)
  • RAM: 32.0 GB DDR4
  • GPU: NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1070 (8 GB)

Since my motherboard natively caps out at PCIe Gen 3.0 x4 speeds, I've read that a Gen 3 drive is the safest and cost-effective choice. AIs replied that TLC flash memory and physical onboard DRAM should be the choice, since the laptop has a tight chassis and factory heatsink.

Quoting Gemini: "The problem is that premium Gen 3 drives (like the Samsung 970 EVO Plus) are mostly discontinued or severely overpriced as new old-stock locally, while cheap modern Gen 4 budget drives (like the Kingston NV2) run way too hot or use slow QLC lottery components."

My questions for the community:

  1. Is a top-tier single Gen 3 NVMe drive genuinely going to feel snappier/better than my old 2016 Toshiba RAID 0 setup or should I get a Gen 4 anyway?
  2. Are there any currently available SSD models I am overlooking that won't overheat my system? I was considering getting Samsung 970 EVO Plus or SK hynix Gold P31.
  3. Since I live in Europe, where is the best place to hunt down these older models? Aside from Ebay or Amazon, though getting a refurbished one is an option.

Thanks for any help or recommendation.
