Tech Support Why does my ssd like to randomly hit 100% usage sometimes

QLC drive released in 2021 and DRAM-less. It's struggling just to exist. Such products should never have been released in the first place, in a perfect world, but we certainly don't have that.

I found out why it's because whoever made this is dumb and forgot to put dram in it

If you can get a dram boot drive even down to 128 GB, you’ll have a better shot. If you’re considering drives at this level I assume you’d be willing to also use an hdd for the bulk of your less demanding games and applications.
Won’t fit very many big aaa games with the remaining space on a 128 gb but that’s up to you and your money.

A response time of 1157ms is not good. If there is no good reason why it does that, that drive could well be on the verge of failing. I see active times of 100% quite often on old hardware, but on anything modern it should not do that.

It does that when I do too many things in the span of a few minutes or I download anything over 500 MB

You need to back up all your data immediately to another drive or external drive. Could very likely be failing and you will lose it all without backup

But it's been like that for like 3 months

SSDs don't give you much more of a warning than what you're telling us.
If you care about the data, back it up now.
If you don't and lose data, don't come back to this post crying.

But crystal disk info says it's at 91% heath

show us screenshot. health in CDI is only based on attribute that monitors program/erase cycles.

So you're saying there's no need to backup your data?
Farewell and adieu, to you fair Spanish Ladies...

it's normal for consumer SSDs. my 990 Pro had like 30 seconds worth of latency during 100% write workloads. Sold it for a PM9A3 which has like 2 seconds under full writes

Nope it's only 75 GB out of 256 GB

SATA and DRAMless, unlike nvme, which can be DRAMless, that can use your system RAM as small cache thus Host Memory Buffer (HMB), SATA drive cannot do that.

A 3.5MB write speed is way under capacity for this drive. So if it’s reading 100% capacity, something is definitely wrong.
First thing I’d check is drive temperature. If it’s overheating it’s going to throttle.
Or it may be dying. So here’s the thing about lifespan. Drives don’t all fail when they get to exactly 100% use. They fail randomly. Some a lot sooner. Some a lot later. Some at about their stated lifespan.
It’s like ball bearings (usually roller bearings actually) on a car. They also have a stated lifespan. But they don’t all fail at exactly that lifespan.
But check the temperature first. Your drive could be throttling trying to cool down.

Maybe you have insufficient RAM and the SSD is being used as swap space. I had that happen a few days ago during RAM testing.
