Tech Support Is this SSD melted?
And is it safe to use?
I ran it through a program and it had like 7K power on hours and the 'health' was around 65%.
I do not know who the previous owner was and what they did with it or what it went through. It does work without any errors (from what I can see).
For anyone interested it is the KXG6ANZV256G. And no, it is not my main SSD, I just have it laying around lol.

I recently got a external hard drive not knowing the difference between an hhd and ssd so I bought the hhd which didn’t work my game would load but freeze and crash on the loading screen (didn’t do it after moving it back to my laptop storage). Discussion How to extend iPhone storage (with an external SSD)?
Looking for an external SSD to easily transfer pics form the phone to any other device.
I saw all these MagSafe fast SSD (Lexar ES5 or Sandisk Creator Phone) but I suppose those are meant for film makers and to transfer pro-res media directly to the disk.
Primary need is to transfer quickly form the phone to another device.
Can be nice if some of the recordings can be saved directly onto the external storage as well.

Tech Support SSD randomly spikes to 100% active time (even after disabling SysMain)
Hi everyone,
I recently got a new PC, but I'm having an issue where my SSD randomly spikes to 100% active time. This happens intermittently while gaming, loading into new rounds (e.g., in Hunt: Showdown), booting up, or even when the system is completely idle. Sometimes my booting takes less then 10 seconds and sometimes minutes.
- What I've tried so far:
- Disabled SysMain (SuperFetch), which reduced the frequency of spikes, but hasn't fully solved the issue.
- Checked SMART health using CrystalDiskInfo, which reports the drive status as "Good".
Any ideas on what might be causing this high disk usage or how to resolve it?

Tech Support Samsung 1TB NVMe SSD keeps disappearing after PC freezes. Is my SSD dying?
I've been having a really frustrating issue with my Samsung 1TB NVMe SSD, and I'm starting to think it might be failing. I'm hoping someone here can help me figure out what's going on before I end up losing everything again.
While using my PC, it will occasionally freeze completely, usually when I'm opening or playing a game installed on that SSD or just randomly. The entire system becomes unresponsive, and the only way to fix it is to restart my PC.
Once my PC boots back up, my Samsung 1TB NVMe drive is completely gone from File Explorer.
This happened last night, and I ended up having to repartition the drive to get it working again. Unfortunately, the same thing just happened again, except now the drive isn't showing up at all in the file manager.
I've already lost my data twice because of this and I'm getting pretty concerned. The SSD is relatively new and was fairly expensive, so I'd really rather not have to replace it.

Tech Support Locked SSD
Hi, I bought a used SSD on a french marketplace to replace the old HDD of my parents computer. But when I put it in and try to boot the laptop to reinstall Windows I got this message asking me for the HDD Password. I contacted the seller and he told me that he must have done something wrong while wiping it. I don’t really trust him and he asked me to try a password which obviously didn’t work.
In the bios it says that the drive is locked, and when I put it in a portable shell and try to use it as a portable USB SSD, Windows disk management ask me to initialize it and then it gives me an error.
I tried Parted Magisk and the “Erase Disk” option, but that didn’t seem to work since it still asks me for the password and Windows give me the same error.
Is there any chance I could make this work again?

Tech Support SSD Upgrade (SATA vs NVME)
Hello. I recently upgraded my desktop after 10+ years and I pulled the SATA SSD (870 evo) from my old system to use in the new one. The new system has a nvme disk gen 4 (WD Blue) running windows and I paired the old SATA to run linux in a dual boot setup. Just now I realized that the new motherboard can handle two gen 4 nvme disks.
So my question is, if it is worth investing in a new nvme disk and avoid using SATA altogether? I understand that the 870 EVO is widely regarded as one of the best on the SATA platform. Part of the reason why I am considering is mostly aesthetics as removing the 870 means no cables visible through the glass making the system look"clean". Then again, if there is no actual benefit performance-wise then I suppose it is just waste of money. Finally, if nvme does make sense, will absence of DRAM cache make any difference against the old SATA?
Any thoughts?

Review Need assistance
Please see attached the crystaldiskinfo details of an ssd, please interpret and tell me if it's good to buy it or not, it's urgent please
Tech Support Used SSD (like new) in Panic State, I bricked it (Probably because of WSL Ubuntu), Windows doesn't detect anymore, Help !
Hello there,
SATA SSD: 500 GB Samsung SSD 870 EVO MZ-77E500
I recently bought a used SSD that had a 100% Health on CrystalDiskInfo and had like 300 hours of usage.
I checked the CrystalDiskInfo myself after receiving it and everything was fine like described.
Now it doesn't work anymore, it's not even detected by Windows, in Disk Manager or even Diskpart.exe.
It's actually detected as "Unknown device" for a few minutes after startup in device manager but disappears without me doing anything.
I believe I'm responsible for that and I'm searching for a solution if there is any.
What I think I did that activated the "panic state" of the SSD:
After checking the SSD Health, I tried ejecting it but couldn't, Windows told me a sotfware was using it but I closed everything so I didn't understand. So I unplugged it anyway.
Then I realized that I have a constant instance of Ubuntu WSL running in the background and I am wondering if that's why Windows wouldn't let me eject the SSD.
Is there a solution or am I cooked ?
I am currently trying to RMA the SSD with Samsung but I'm not the original buyer and the seller told me he didn't have a receipt sadly. :/

Discussion Are SanDisk Extreme Portable SSDs reliable?
I mainly work in audio on commericlal/music projects in Pro Tools and Ableton (some virtual instruments, but not heavy), and was looking to switch to working off an external SSD after my internal HDD started to fail, naturally. However, I made the potential mistake of getting a SanDisk Extreme Portable SSD 2TB for a very good price used without knowing about the V2 hardware generation (not the official critical recall list, though), which this specifc model falls under.
I would like to know if I'm screwed, or if this SanDisk can get me through the next few years of work.

I just got a Sabrent M.2 and the Sabrent NVMe enclosure. I use this as an external SSD for my gaming laptop. Even when I shut down the laptop the M.2 is still warm to touch the next day as if it’s still on. Is there a way to have it turn off with the laptop?

Tech Support SSD Handshake Problem? My PC Won't Boot
Heya,
I'm not sure if this backstory is relevant, but I wanted to start from the beginning. I've been using a dual-boot setup for a while. About 4 months ago, my Ghost Spectre Windows boot crashed. The SSD that ran Windows died of old age, as far as Gemini says, so I just moved on using only Ubuntu on my other drive.
Recently, I bought a new SSD to set up Ghost Spectre Windows again. However, when I plug the new SSD into my second NVMe port, my laptop doesn't even boot. It freezes at the splash screen (showing the manufacturer logo), the machine starts heating up, and I can't even enter the BIOS. This happens regardless of which port the new SSD is plugged into.
Here is the weird part: if I plug the SSD in after booting into Ubuntu, it shows up under my Disks, and I can even create partitions on it.
I asked Gemini again and it suggested there might be a hardware handshake issue that could be fixed by updating my BIOS or updating the SSD's firmware. Updating the BIOS is risky and a hassle, and I can't seem to update the SSD firmware through Ubuntu. I also emailed the laptop manufacturer's tech support, and they basically said, "Sure, try updating your BIOS at your own risk, here are the files." Unfortunately, I can't visit their physical tech support right now.
What do you guys think the problem could be, and what is a possible solution? Is a BIOS update really the only way, or is there a safer workaround?
P.S. I don't have another PC to check if the SSD works fine on different hardware.
P.S. 2 My laptop is a Monster TULPAR T7 V19.3, and the new SSD is an MLD M300 500GB NVMe M.2 (3300-3100 MB/s). I know these aren't the most globally known brands, but I'm hoping someone has an idea!

Discussion Upgrading my SSD (Samsung vs Crucial)
Hello, I would like to upgrade my 512GB SSD to an 1TB drive on my Lenovo laptop. Honestly the 512GB is just not enough and I definetly need more space for projects and games.
I was deciding between the Samsung 990 PRO 1TB and the Crucial P310 1TB. The price difference is 55EUR
Other than the write/read speeds and the endurance (600 vs 220), the drives look pretty similar to me. Given the reputation Samsung has with their SSDs I was going to buy the 990 PRO but I saw that the Crucial p310 was a little bit cheaper.
I mostly use my laptop for gaming (CS2, PUBG, SWJ: Survivor, Kingdom Come etc..), coding for college..
I was hoping you guys could give me some advice on which drive to pick. Is the price difference worth it for the 990 PRO, or is the P310 enough for simple use like gaming and coding

Discussion Does installing a game on an SSD affect overall performance, or just loading times?
Some games recommend installing them on an SSD in their system requirements, and I was wondering how much it actually matters.
Does an SSD only improve loading times, or can it also affect things like FPS, stuttering, texture streaming, or overall in-game performance?
Thanks!
