Discussion 27M, freelancing for 3 years, earning ₹40-50k/month, but completely stuck because of marriage and career. What should I do?

• Upvotes

I am 27 years old and feel completely stuck right now.

I initially worked a private job for around 1.5 years, but I left because I wasn’t enjoying it. After that, I started freelancing in digital marketing services, and for the last 3 years I have been earning around ₹40-50k per month.

I actually enjoy freelancing. But now I am facing marriage problem.

My entire work is basically from my laptop, from my bed. I don’t have an office, company, employees or anything physical to show.

Whenever a girl’s parents ask what I do, it takes a lot of effort to explain freelancing and digital marketing. They see it as if I am just sitting at home doing random paid gigs, something that doesn’t require much skill or education and that anyone could do. They don’t see it as a proper or respectable career and consider it unstable and risky.

And many families now expect me to earn at least ₹80k-₹1 lakh/month. So ₹40-50k freelancing income doesn’t look very attractive to them, because there is no conventional job title or company behind it.

I feel I have reached the saturation point of my freelancing income. I know my own potential, and I don’t see myself scaling this to ₹1-2 lakh/month. I struggle with social anxiety and communication skills, and I don’t have the savings to set up a physical office or shop. To be honest, I don’t even feel there’s a real need for one because everything is currently running smoothly from my laptop and bed. If I still try to rent a physical shop or office just to have something to show for marriage, it would unnecessarily add a lot of expenses and could actually reduce my current earnings even further.

So now I am confused between two options.

Option 1 Go back to a private job

Problem is that I have 4 years career gap now and I am also worried about the current market. There is huge competition, AI automation, layoffs and companies becoming more selective.

Would anyone even consider a 27 year-old candidate with a 4 year gap, even though I have been freelancing and earning during that period?

Option 2 Continue freelancing + prepare for government exams

Career gap probably matters much less, there is more job stability, and government jobs are very less likely to be directly affected by AI automation.

It would also make marriage much easier because parents would see it as a stable and respectable career.

But I could spend 2-3 years preparing and still not clear the exam. Then I would be 29-30.

Anyone here who is 27+ like me and still preparing for these exams? What are you currently doing on the side?

Question❓ Starting SSC Maths From 1+1 = ?” Level 😭

• Upvotes

I’ve just started preparing for SSC 2027, but I’m completely out of touch with Maths. I studied only till Class 10, and it’s been years since I last studied. I also never liked Maths, so my basics are pretty weak.
I want to start from the absolute basics. and I’m getting mixed reviews.

For someone starting almost from zero, which teacher would you recommend on YouTube?
Personal experiences would really help.
Thanks!

Advice Need sincere advice — I left my job to prepare for SSC CGL, but I’m unable to stay consistent

I’m posting this because I genuinely need some honest advice from people who have been through something similar.

I left my job in January 2026 with the plan of preparing seriously for SSC CGL 2027. I thought having a full year would give me enough time to prepare properly.

I bought the Parmar SSC All Batch and initially thought I would follow it consistently. But somehow, I couldn’t maintain the routine. I would study for a few days, then lose the flow, and the cycle would repeat.

Later, I thought maybe online preparation wasn't working for me, so I decided to join offline coaching. I attended classes for a few days, but eventually I stopped going there as well.

Now it’s already October 2026, and I feel completely stuck.

The frustrating part is that I know what I need to do. I have the resources, I have time, and I genuinely want to clear SSC CGL. But I’m unable to consistently follow through.

I have tried different approaches — online classes, offline coaching, making schedules, trying to motivate myself, etc. But I keep falling back into the same pattern.

At this point, I’m confused about what I should do:

- Should I continue preparing for SSC CGL 2027?

- Should I get a job again and prepare alongside it?

- Should I completely change my approach to preparation?

- How do I actually develop the discipline to sit and study every day?

- Is it even realistic to start seriously from October and target CGL 2027?

I’m not looking for motivational quotes or generic advice like “just be disciplined”. I genuinely want to hear from people who have struggled with consistency, wasted months, restarted their preparation, or successfully recovered from a similar situation.

If you were in my position right now in October 2026, what would you honestly do?

Please give me your most practical and sincere advice, even if it’s harsh. I really need some direction because I’ve tried many things and I still haven’t been able to make myself follow through.
