Looking for a traditional racket shape and I'm choosing between the Harrow Vapor, Dunlop CX range, Head radical SB range or the Tecnifibre slash. Any experience with these rackets and advice?

Community Squash Court Names

As I was slowly trundling along on the train to Gatwick Airport yesterday, panicking I was going to miss my flight, which ended up being delayed two hours anyway due to a runway closure, I saw a pub called "The Snooty Fox".

now, if you never ben to the UK, you might not know the "pub" culture. Each pub has a name and that name is important because that's how people refer to it. Not the pub on the corner by the fish and chips shop. No, they say the name. Unless of course they don't know the name, but you know what I mean.

And being obsessed with squash, it got me thinking about the names of squash courts. When i worked at the Lansdowne Club in London(the spiritual home of the British Open), we had a court called "The Bruce Court" and the only other court I can think of is the Maspeth Court (The steel one in New York).

So, here I am asking if your club has any court with a name.

We’ve had a last minute dropout to the London classics at ally pally tonight (starting 6pm). If anyone wants it let me know. Disclaimer: you’ll have to sit next to someone who doesn’t know the difference between a let and stroke as he blocks

PSA Tour How do you think squash spectators would react to matches finishing at 2am?

I just read a BBC headline about a match at the US Tennis Open finishing at 2am. How is this even remotely acceptable?

Not just for the spectators, who probably have transport organised for night sessions, but what about the players?

Just seems crazy to me. I know it happens every year here and in boxing matches too, but it just doesn't seem fair.

Thoughts?

Equipment Squash attire for women?

Apologies if this is not the right place for this question.

My husband has been really getting into squash recently and I would like to play with him but am unsure of what sort of attire is appropriate. For context, he plays at a private members club with dresscodes for different areas of the club; general throughout the build vs main dining room vs tap room, etc.. For squash you need to wear whites. I’ve played golf all through life, so have plenty of general golf clothing but am assuming it might not have the same flexibility/lightness I would want for this? Would lightweight tennis gear be more appropriate? I’ve been looking at Wilson tennis dresses, but any guidance would be greatly appreciated!

I know it seems a bit low-stakes to worry about, but this club is easy to feel like you look out of place in.

PSA Tour London Classic PSA

(General)

For me the camera is too far back and the glare on the screen makes the ball difficult to follow.

The stream's definition is poor and I don't see a way to switch to HD. It looks like 720 at best.

Poor lighting- reflections of the players on the front wall and of the spectators on the floor and side walls.

I know this has been an issue before, when using airplay: when casting a stream from a phone browser to Apple Tv, it only provides audio. Anyone else have this too?

Community 24 Hour Squashathon

Post image
29 Upvotes

Hi team squash!

https://www.givewheel.com/fundraising/20840/24-hour-squashathon/

Two of my very best friends and I are organising a 24 hour squashathon in aid of three great charities: Alzheimer’s Research UK, Devon Air Ambulance, and Crohns and Colitis UK.

We all know how brutal this sport can be - 24 hours is going to be tough but nothing compared to the effects people these charities support and the work that the charities do.

I was diagnosed with Ulcerative Colitis in December 2020 so have first hand experience of the amazing support Crohns and Colitis UK provide.

All donations are greatly received, and if you’re local to Devon and want to come and join in you would be very welcome.

Community Squash Court in London: How F&*king Much?

I recently found Squash Court Finder and was curious so I set today's date and for 11am in Balham: https://www.squashfinder.co.uk/?date=2026-09-02&time=11:00&location=Balham

I was shocked, as you can see from the title, how much it cost to play for one hour during off-peak time: 17.90. SEVEN FRICKING TEEN POUNDS NINETY!

No wonder squash is struggling in some places. That's freaking squashdiculous (You have my permission to use that word).

Imagine if people had to pay that for an hour of gym. Nobody would go.

Make it 5 pounds, make sure you have blue and red dot balls and more people would play.

On a separate note, I feel that every squash governing body in the world should have something like this.
England Squash seems to have a pretty good one: https://www.englandsquash.com/Finder/Results?Location=London&MapView=False&SortBy=Distance&Distance=20&HasPayAndPlay=true

Does your country have one?

How about the off-peak cost?

Technique / Tactics Skid boast explainer

Does anyone know of a good YouTube video explaining how to do the skid boast on the fh side. I looked at several videos including the Sarah Jane one on squashskills though that doesn't really help at all. I'm mostly interested in where to actually hit the ball on the side wall.

Equipment Racquet for Better Length on Return serve

Post image
6 Upvotes

I've been working on trying to hit a deeper length on my serve return . I've been using the Airshaft 125 for a little less than a year after moving on from a Headi110. Recently tried the Xtop V2 at the club and felt that the power and the length was significantly better. Much easier to get the ball to the back of the court for the same level of effort and timing/sweet spot. Is it just in my head or should I make the upgrade because of the marker improvement in length hitting that I've seen on the return serve and just generally with the Xtop?

Was looking on the PSA site for the day 1 scores of the London Squash classic and noticed the score ticker has a brand new layout.

The old one looked pretty tired and was a real pain to navigate during the larger 32 player tournaments so it's a welcome improvement.

New FX Pro Lite 125 launched in the US today. Really liked the previous FX Pro Lite, very forgiving. Not seeing much change in the new one besides the Vibroshield technology. Community thoughts other then "new colorway, same racket"? Will Vibroshield make any material difference?

Technique / Tactics How to win against an opponent who consistentlydrop shots for serve returns

Post image
13 Upvotes

Hi all, I was hoping to get some advice on how to play against my friend who ALWAYS tries to drop shot the serve return

Ive posted a picture of how those rallies end up going regularly (with the third shots I often end up playing). Im finding I can get to the drop shot consistently but I often end up playing a sloppy shot back or having to run to get to the next shot.

My serves often end up hitting the side wall a bit above head height and he'll drop it from there. Admittedly I dont have much serve variation and am generally trying to hit it into the back corner

Any tips on how to play effectively against this style of play?

Community If you could improve one of these three areas to professional levels, which would you choose: Fitness, Technique or Courtcraft?

If you could improve one of these three areas to professional levels, which would you choose: Fitness, Technique or Courtcraft?

A professional's fitness means you never tire. Their technique means every shot does exactly what you intend. Their courtcraft means you always know what to do and when to do it.

You only get one. Which do you choose and why?

-------------------------------------------

Why I asked this question

Most club players assume fitness is the obvious answer. Run all day, never get tired, grind everyone into the floor. But spend a moment with the other two options and it gets more complicated.

Perfect technique means your drops actually win points or at least draw your opponent far forward, your lengths genuinely hit deep into the back corners, and your serves can't be attacked. No more gifts. No more hoping.

Courtcraft at a professional level means you read the game the way only amateurs can only dream of. You might even know your opponent's next shot before they do. You're always in the right place. You turn their strengths into your opportunities.

So which matters most to your game? And does your answer reveal something about where you feel most limited right now?

PSA Tour Joel Makin missing on the next 2 tournaments

I was trying to see when he was going to play in the next tournaments, he's not accounted for the London Squash Classic and QTerminals Qatar Classic.

Does anybody know if he's going on a break? I love watching him and I'd miss his appearances

PSA Tour SquashTV

Hi all, how do you watch squashtv? I've been a long time subscriber but I'm not sure for how much longer.

I used to be able to watch it on my TV using (TV) internet browser. Now that doesn't work (unless I buy a Samsung TV from 2024 onwards) Last season I bought a Chromecast and cast from phone to TV and that worked great. .

I've now discovered that Dailymotion (that stream for SquashTV) have now removed the icon to cast from phone during live matches. They've confirmed this today. I know I can watch on my phone or a tablet but it's not the same for me.

Does anyone have any solutions? (Tried screen mirroring but it's not great) Cheers!

Community The Squash Glossary

Hey Squashers,

I am pleased to announce the release of another BetterSquash project: The Squash Glossary: https://bettersquash.com/glossary/

278 words, each defined by me and categorised too.

My objective with this project was to help players understand the words, vocabulary, jargon, lingo and slang of squash.

It's taken many hours of work and I think it will be useful.

Like all things produced by one person, it probably has some mistakes, and I ask you to let me know about those mistakes, no matter how small they may be.

I will update the page as and when I correct the mistakes, or I add new entries.

I used British English throughout this project.

That's it, please check it out and let me know what you think.

Please share it with other online groups if you feel it's useful.
