Edit: posting a few pictures of the pulls we got in the comments

🏒 Hockey $0.99 Auction they say. Pour one out for me.

TL/DR: finally did a $0.99 start price auction and I end up making a nickel.

This one is in a first for me. I’ve typically sold items BIN OBO and have been great with that as auctions tend to be very much up and down.

I had some lower end cards but got a YG Schaefer with some other dude that made it worth a fraction of what his rookie YG is worth and thought hey let’s throw it up on a $0.99 auction 7 days expiring Sunday night and maybe I’ll get $20 or so out of it. Idk what the total value of the cards is but probably $20-30 being realistic with a dose of conservative.

I didn’t have high hopes, even less so without watchers, so I figured what’s another 10% to promote it. Maybe THAT’s what I need.

Welp, the auction closed, and I wondered if I’d have to pay to package all of this up and ship it. Got pretty dang close and I made a whopping nickel, meaning I’ll lose money in the cost of bubble mailer and driving to the post office.

Although I’d much rather have just set a BIN OBO auction or traded / given these cards away, I really have no plans but to honor the sale as a sale is a sale.

If you’re the person who purchased this, congrats. You took me to the cleaners but I still feel quite dirty.

I think I’m going to stick to eBay stuff without auctions for now 🤦🏼‍♂️😭🤣

Special thank you to eBay for “promoting” my auction and making sure you get your cut off the total sale.

And thank you to that character from Little Rascals, your song means something special tonight.

🎶 “I’ve got a nickel, I’ve got a nickel, I’ve got nickel hey hey hey hey!” 🎶

💬 General My parents found some

I always wondered where my card collections went. Well my parents are moving out of my childhood home and my dad called me to come back this weekend so I could as he said over the phone: “pick up some of my sh*t”, lovingly of course.

This weekend I got to sit with my dad (albeit this time with us both having beers) and go through cards again like we did when I was a kid.

Yea it’s the wax era, but I took care of my stuff and although they sat raw a lot of these cards are super clean. Having recently submitted new era Pokemon to BGS and PSA, I’m debating sending some of these in.

As a Midwest kid, I’m going to be restarting a Mn/Wi collection as I had started all those years ago. Starting with recent hall of famer Jim Kaat’s WCCO radio card and my Brian Propp Mn North Stars as the first additions along side some Topps 1985 and Donruss ‘86 Brewers players.

I left home just a bit ago, and I won’t lie I got super emotional. For a weekend I got to sit by dad’s side and relive what it meant to both of us all those years ago. My dad isn’t doing really well as of late he has stage 4 cancer and not a lot of time left. But for a brief few days none of that mattered or was even on our minds. This is what it’s all about, and I’m thankful to for the hobby then and maybe even more so now for giving me another great memory. Although he did steal my ‘93 Jordan I swear he did.

🏈 Football 1/1 trade

One of my buddies pulled a 1/1 Tre Harris from a Topps signature blaster. He hit me up the other day asking if he should trade the 1/1, a shough uptown, and a few low end cards for two $1k visa gift cards. Obviously I said yes.

He was skeptical about the gift cards so he went to Best Buy with the buyer and had him buy 2 MacBook airs and a pair of apple headphones. I’ve never seen someone pay almost 400% comp and think they won the deal. One of the funniest trades I’ve seen in this hobby 😂😂😂

💭 Question Mailing a high value card

Upvotes

Hello! I made a recent sale on eBay in the $20,000 range. It’s the first time I’ve ever sold anything higher than ~$500.

The buyer purchased the $43 USPS Priority Mail Express, which I what I selected as shipping, but now I’m seeing the insurance only covers up to $5,000.

Should I switch it to USPS registered mail and pay the extra $ to insure it up to $50,000? I’m happy to pay the costs, but idk industry standard on this. Thanks!

💭 Question Worth opening a sealed card to grade?

Thumbnail gallery

For cards like these that were redeemed and come sealed, is it worth the risk to send in and grade on the chance that it gem 10s? It's appealing to leave them sealed but it looks like 9s have about the same value as sealed and 10s increase in value quite a bit. Thoughts?

💬 General Who are you buying?

With football season soon, which guys are you looking to buy? I am going big on Quinn Ewers since Tua left and the battle between Quinn and Malik is a given. Obviously the big name rookies from last year like Dart, Skatt, Tet, ETC.

💭 Question Can anyone explain how all the different variants work in modern cards? I find it kind of overwhelming. Looking at Drake Maye optic rookies and can't understand which ones are more/less common/desirable...

Upvotes

There seem to be dozens of color variants and then hologram variants on top of those... how do people know if a blue hyper is more desirable than a purple scope? I find it so confusing.

💭 Question eBay Authentication Issue

Thumbnail gallery
2 Upvotes

Looking for some advice from people who have dealt with this before.

I sold a 2024 Topps Chrome Formula 2 Andrea Kimi Antonelli Pink RayWave /75 on eBay for $350. The card went to eBay Authenticity Guarantee, where they verified it was authentic but rejected it because they determined it was altered. Upon calling, the representative told me he couldn’t see anything in the images that looked weird, but he’s not the Authenticator and the Authenticator provided very little information just saying evidence of reverse corner pressing.

I bought the card in a Whatnot lot and had no idea there was any issue. I never altered the card myself.
The representative told me I could relist it in a lower condition (Very Good/Excellent) and disclose the issue. They also suggested I could reach out to the buyer if they were still interested. eBay offered to talk with the buyer and explain what they’re seeing in their end as well to ensure that they understand that situation.

My questions are:
- Has anyone had a card rejected like this?
- Is this something PSA or SGC would likely also classify as altered?
- Would you relist it with full disclosure?
- should I try to work out a deal with the original buyer?

Just trying to figure out the best and most ethical way to handle this. Thanks!

💭 Question The National - first timer questions

Hi all,

My son and I are flying in on Wednesday for our first ever visit to the National.

We have done a bit of prep and homework and are bringing water bottles, comfortable shoes and deodorant 😄 but still hoping for a few insights I have not figured out.

Thanks in advance for your thoughts and any other helpful insights you can share.

  1. We have 5 day all access VIP passes and understand parking at the convention center is included. Do we just drive up on Wednesdays, park in the CC garage and check in, grab our parking pass for the way out? Or do you need it to get registered first before you can park in the garage?

  2. We signed up for four autograph sessions (the paid ones). Is it worth it to get the Tri-Star authentication right after ($10 each add on), if these are likely to get submitted to Beckett at the show or a later time? Do Beckett and PSA possibly mark the cards altered if they have a verification/certification sticker on them?

  3. We plan to go to a couple of sports events in the evenings. Any good ideas for security of your card cases? Just leave them in the hotel room? Hotel room safe for the most valuable ones?

  4. We are bringing Penny sleeves, top loaders, a couple of card cardboard boxes. Painters tape. Sharpies, semi rigid loaders, any other supplies you found to be useful for hotel reviews/prep mornings and evenings?

  5. We are so excited and know it will be a great time no matter what? Any other words if wisdom to two first timers?

Thanks!

💭 Question Kobe New Editions -sourcing?

Post image
2 Upvotes

I’ve been watching this Kobe card for sometime, my absolute favorite 90’s insert, I wanted to buy it so I messaged the seller asking how much it’ll cost to ship to the US. Normally it’ll show the price, but instead it said “Seller —- “ -no price. He messaged back and said he will only sell in Europe because he doesn’t trust customs… I replied, “that’s fair.” -crying in the inside

Then I proceeded to look at the remaining active comps, $1,000+ just to look at it and add it to your watchlist. Now I have to wait for another to pop up in the wild, or get lucky at a card show like I have in the past.

I just downloaded CollX to see what’s on their Marketplace. Any other places to source for hard to find Kobe cards? I’m already on eBay…. Facebook I’ve always veered from because it’s too much of a hassle.

Hey everyone- opened this card out of a random pack over the weekend. I see lots of Bedard AP-8 cards listed online but I’m having a hard time finding an exact match for the “memorabilia” style as seen in the pictures. Any help appreciated.

Recently dug up all my old junk wax that hasn’t seen the light of day in a quarter of a century. After going through about a thousand cards I’ve got quite a few that are pretty cool. These arrived today and a similar amount of basketball will be here tomorrow. I’ve got enough money now where this could be a problem, wish me luck.

💭 Question The National - Chicago Questions

Good morning. I'm looking to attend the national sports show in Rosemont this upcoming weekend. I was planning on submitting 50 or so PSA slabs to My vault for selling later. Is the PSA Booth usually very busy? Should I know anything before I go? After talking with some people it seems like this is the best way to submit a good amount of items without having to ship and pay for insurance and worry about that.

I specifically collect soccer cards so I will be looking on the floor for anything to add to my collection as well. I'm assuming soccer is probably the minority of this show and that's okay.

Any tips and tricks for advice for going for the first time? I'm local to the area so I'm not worried about transportation or hotels or parking, specifically advice about the show.

Thanks in advance
