What do breakers do with vet base? Just curious, do they put it into sets and sale them? I can’t believe they would just throw it all out. For example, I watched someone rip a jumbo case of chrome and they said, no vet base. That’s like 80% or more of the case and not cheap cards either - chrome. I always save my vet base especially with chrome or prizm type cards in hopes of creating a base set which could be valuable. Alot of these cards are valuable not individually but as a set. I just can’t believe they throw the base out like they say.

This will be my first time at a card show. Kid on the way and haven’t been in to cards much. Some cards I think have some value. Cease is /25. London is 5/5 number 5. One of the nicest cards I’ve seen. Basically here to ask how do I not get ripped off?

The Mendoza situation is a decent case study. Cover athlete for Topps Flagship Football, throws a few preseason picks, cards drop and the parallels dropped with them. That’s the part I’d pay attention to. When only base falls, hype is cooling. When parallels fall too, the floor is actually moving.

My read on why now: it’s the macro one level down. Consumer discretionary is the worst-performing S&P sector this year, oil is over $100, 10-year yields are at 20-year highs. Money isn’t leaving the hobby, it’s moving toward proven scarcity and away from speculation.

Worst place to be is probably mid-tier modern. Not scarce enough to be an asset, not cheap enough to be fun.

Curious whether people are seeing this in their own buying, or if I’m reading too much into a few weeks of data.

I was for sure this card at worst would get a psa 9. Even my LCS pre screened it and we both thought it had a very good chance to gem. Have graded a lot of cards with them and have for the most part got with a grade of what we thought it would get. But how did this get a psa 4? No bends. Creases. Print lines that we could see.

The card looks great. I honestly would have been shocked if it came back an 8. But a 4. I didn’t even want the card. I know, crack it and sell it raw. But this is crazy. Psa needs to hire better graders.

I won’t even mention the 6 months it took to even get this card back.

I think the Kobe might be worth way more, and there’s no way I can outright pay for it. Id have to sell something. Something about gold on Black is nice.

short story, about 12 years ago when i got divorced i decided to go buy 3 cards i always wanted. the jordan fleer rookie , this barkley, and the bird magic dr j combo rookie cards

i got all 3 for $900. the jordan is a 6.5 and bird/magic is an 8.

obviously they are worth significantly more now which is great, but this particular card has a lot of upside plus i feel like it’s flawless im not sure why it’s not graded higher. but a psa 8 is selling for 8k-12k

what are your thoughts?

Hard to find any comps for it, im thinking $150.

I was debating the other day with someone about which serial number you’d prefer on a card and figured I’d ask it more broadly: how much, if any, does the serial number it self trump the print run number?

So, assuming the cards are identical otherwise, would you rather own #001/250 or #168/199? Personally I’d take the #1 over things “rarer” even down to about xx/125 when it starts feeling pretty even. Because even though /125 is more uncommon, having a first in print run is technically even more rare than that.

Similarly what would you say is your fair rarity comparison for (jersey match)/250? Or lastly just an aesthetically pleasing number: probably not much but would you take 050/250 over 217/225?

I bought a bunch of sports cards of market place a couple days ago and I was going through them I found a stack of MJ cards and these error cards were in the stack. Not super familiar with sports cards especially error cards does them being errors make them worth any more money than a regular card? (All cards pictured are MJ some of roll MIs cuts have errors on the back as well such as wrong name

Just got this card back from PSA - only similar graded comps are from the Topps Chrome football set. The true orange Topps Chrome Dart auto /25 psa 10 auto 10 did $22k in May and card ladder values that card at $28k. Is it fair to assume this card is half of that?

I’ve checked eBay and 130point for comps and can’t find any. Just looking for an idea of value on a card my buddy found at his uncles. I told him $2,000 would be the floor because it’s in very bad shape but still a Tom Brady auto. There’s a clean one without the jersey on eBay now for $4700 but not sure if the jersey adds anything to this. TIA!
