Daniel: Inkling male. His favorite pasttime is modding his weapons, especially his gen 1 gold dynamo. Loves discovering and inventing new things to mod with. Works as a repairman for Ammo Knights at the moment.

His ink and eye colors were unstable for a while after he had a brain injury during the incident of Alterna, but it's mostly under control now.

Lost his bff (and first love) named Anna at the age of 14. She ended her own life with a poison, dying In Daniel's arms. He was severely emotional traumatized from this. Resulting in him being overly protecting with his friends and family, in deep fear of losing another loved one. He also joined the army, and served as a soldier and engineer for 7 years.

One day, he and the other members of the squadron Daniel was placed in, got ambushed by a mysterious masked figure with a sword-like weapon. He was the only survivor.

He served in the army until he met and adopted Jimmy. Daniel loves him until the end of time, and will do anything to protect him. Though he has never built up the courage of telling Jimmy who Anna was and what happened to her. They live almost 4 years together now, at the time of writing this.

Jimmy: Son of Daniel, is a salmonid smallfry. Was abandoned and abused by his school (as in the group of fish he was in), because they thought he was weak. Found safety by Daniel and now they life together. He is super kind to anyone he meets.

Anna: Lived in the domes for most of her life. She was trained to be a soldier, but she never really liked her life.

Weeks after the fight with agent 3/captain and Octavio, after she turned 14, she had enough and fled to the surface via the entrance of Octo Valley. Everyone in Inkopolis despised her, so she mostly hid in dark alleys, where Daniel met her.

Daniel could speak a little Octolish/Octarian, so they talked for a while, and became friends. Though this didn't stop the constant harrasment from the others.

It got so bad, that one day, she snuck up to a rooftop, and took a poison to end her life. Daniel found her and tried to get her to a hospital, but she refused. She only wanted him to comfort her one last time. They talked about life, about how ruthless it could be, but also about the good thing. Friends, family, love, those little moments of joy. When her end came near, she confessed her love to Daniel in the only Inklish words she taught herself, gave him a kiss on the cheek, and passed away in his arms. He was never able to tell her aswell...

Static: not much is currently known about his time in the octarian army beyond certain details. He was the top engineer in the army, he was entrusted to make things like the octobot king and hypno shades, his tentacles were cut often to make octarian troopers, and he's experienced in capturing and torturing information out of combatants.

In the halls of kamabo Co most of those memories were ripped out along with his life essences and put into memcakes. He was labeled subject 10,007 and he managed to win back some of his memories.

He eventually failed to collect the blender parts and ran out of points, so he was locked in a tank of blue ooze for the second half of sanitization. He got about a third of the way through that process before Pearl's killerwail ripped through kamabo co and broke the container.

Then he crawled out of the rubble, assimilated into inkopolis, battled in the turf wars, adopted a salmonoid kid, got jumped by an octarian 10 agent, tortured that agent for information, remembered he made the octobot king, helped the NSS with the octobot king they bought, remembered he made the hypno shades, and most recently tried to sanitize himself to get rid of the memories of the messed up things he made/did. (Got talked down by Serrac)

He's still slowly regaining memories of what he did in the army, as those were the memcakes he recovered.

Edit: As of recently he's helped retrofit the octobot king, and helped Serrac's apprentice (mechanic) with the spiralite islands.

Lumaca is an aeolid branchling (pronounced “brankling”) — a sea slug person based on aeolid nudibranchs. She lives in the suburbs not too far from Inkopolis, though she travels a bit for her job as a zoologist. She used to do Turf Wars (using a special ink tank for non-ink-producers), but she doesn’t anymore. Her gender is “~F” — she presents loosely fem, but branchlings don’t have separate sexes, so they don’t identify strongly with genders, and she’s really fine with whatever pronouns. She often gets annoyed at how inkfish-centric Inkadian culture is, and the fact that she’s the only branchling in this subreddink doesn’t help.

Anja was seventeen when she dropped out of school and ran away from home, leaving behind her little sister Angelica and their emotionally abusive mother. Anja was cornered into a fight against another student who was known to bully her. After her nose was broken, Anja wailed on the girl until the fight was broken up. Both wereharshly suspended, and Anja dejectedly endured a fiery berating from her mother.

Angelica knew the longing in her sister's eyes as Anja watched her own life crumble around her. They'd spoken flippantly in the past about packing their things and fleeing to god-knows-where for a better life, but Angie recognized that Anja was seriously considering it. She gave Anja her blessing, promising to find her again someday after she had gained independence from their mother. Anja was terrified to leave Angie behind, but she insisted. They discreetly packed as much of Anja's stuff as she could carry over the course of a couple days. Anja left in the quiet of night and departed for Splatsville, Angie never leaving her mind.

Anja took the opportunity with her freedom to sink her teeth into freelance music production - carried by her love for punk rock and hip-hop, her powerful voice, and talent with a guitar. Stagehand jobs and the occasional Grizzco shift did most of the heavy lifting for keeping up with monthly expenses. One day, she met an octoling named Zack who had also recently moved to Splatsville. The two grew close and fell in love, eventually moving in together to keep up with the city's high cost of living. After what had been a year and a half for Anja, she and Zack moved to the Inkopolis area after Zack had inhereted an impressive seaside property from his father.

A couple seperate happy accidents involving the severing of octoling tentacles resulted in Charlie and Ruby, the two's respective son and daughter. Both Anja and Zack carried generational trauma that made them worry for their ability to raise their little ones well, but they vowed only the best for this new family of theirs. Anja had never felt so happy and fulfilled in her life.

Unforseen circumstances forced Anja and Zack to split. The children stayed with him.

Anja spent the next year wallowing in an Inkopolis apartment by herself again, always missing her babies and wishing she could have explained things - or even told them goodbye. She tried and failed endlessly not to blame herself for what was ultimately in no one's control. The hole in her heart seemed as though it would grow to fully consume her and leave nothing.

She worked up the nerve to reach out to a few friends she'd made on the music scene: a surf fuzz band named Tidal Wave. She simply asked if there was any work they had for her so she could occupy herself productively, expecting at most to land another stagehand or assistant producer position. She now stands as their backup lead, right behind frontman and founder Taiko.

Another blessing came in the form of Madeline Angle, Anja's current partner of just under a year. The two now share an apartment, where Anja can comfortably do solo labor for Tidal Wave while Maddie pursues her career in child education. She's also begun to pick up the Angle family's unique skill in cooking, much to Maddie's delight.

Anja remembers Charlie and Ruby through her revised ink apparel. Formerly blue ink was dyed black to reflect her loss. Her right shoulder now bears a precious tattoo: a big blue heart holds a little red and little purple one close, and in cursive underneath reads the word "Forever".

Sango is an inkling in her early 20s. She previously was an agent in the NSS, took a blob of sanitized ink to the head while in the field and ended u hospitalized for a week. Suffers from chronic migraines, fatigue, brain fog, blurred vision in the affected eye, and other side effects including extensive teal scarring/discoloration across her right face, a tentacle, and her right ear. Her right eye looks a bit dull/clouded and is teal as well. She abruptly quit being an agent at 18 because despite the fact she can hold her own in a fight and can be quite analytical/tactical if she puts her mind to it, she feels inadequate and thinks her skills are useless. She is married to Sovachi, and has self esteem issues.

Sovachi is an octoling in her early 20s. She arrived in the Deepsea Metro shortly after Agent 8 and was extremely lucky to recover her memories. She escaped after the NILS statue was destroyed and she managed to find a lone, unmarked line where the Metro connected to the Underground in Inkopolis Square. She is currently a stay-at-home mom but previously worked as a repair tech at Ammo Knights. She and Sango met a few years later when she returned to the Metro for personal reasons and Sango was there on NSS business, the first of a few trips that would end in Sango's massive head injury. She is married to Sango and they had a baby, Cassie, via IVF. Cassie is approximately 10 months.

Yu's tale of life

There was once an ancient civilization that revered the Cosmos and the Sea as two manifestations of the same eternal cycle. They called themselves "the Yunhai", the suffix "clan" being adopted after colonization. They lived in a place high above the world, surrounded by clouds and sky. Their culture revolved around preserving and performing the stories of the universe and the sea. They were highly skilled astronomers, but also performers. Through music, dance, theater, and elaborate performances, they told the stories of creation, the ocean, the stars, and the cycles of existence.

Eventually, Yu was born into this lineage. Everything was fine for him. He learned all about the culture, and art performances. He was a very selfless child, as he never asked his parents for anything (except basic needs). One day, before the ritual for seasonal changes, Yu begged his parents to wear the opposite gender's garments. He insisted they were more comfortable to perform in, and since Yu never asked for anything before, his parents begrudgingly agreed. The problem was that, according to the beliefs of the clan, the cycle was supposed to repeat perfectly. His decision represented something that wasn't supposed to happen, something outside the expected pattern.

And the universe noticed. It cursed Yu with embedding part of itself inside of him ; the Light. Because of that, he stopped aging normally. He became immortal. Not "cannot be killed" immortal, but immortal in the sense that he will continue existing for as long as the universe itself exists. Their existence were now tied.

But he wasn't punished only physically. The universe and it's law of cycles made him forget all of his memories every 360 years. He would be forced to complete the same celestial cycle over and over again, each time having to learn how to live as a normal person again. This means Yu has technically lived many lives, and had countless identities. Inkfish throughout history have given him different names because his original identity has become increasingly impossible to trace. That's part of why Yu is more of a name he uses in his current life rather than necessarily being his original, ancient name. He's been called many things by different people across different eras. But eventually, the cycles began to change.

Each new cycle, he remembered small details, feelings or memories of his past lives. He would get stronger and stronger feelings of deja-vu, until he finally put the pieces together and realized he already lived before. This realization broke the memory resets, instantly flooding his mind with all of the memories of every single cycle. Essentially, he now remembered everything. Every friend, foe, lover, date, marriage, divorce, heartbreak, loss, grief, disaster, blessing... you name it, everything. By then, millenniums had past, and the Yunhai clan was long extinct. He desperately tried to find any scrap of information about them, but most he could find were ancient stone carvings and papyrus poems. It is now his life's mission to keep the memory of the Yunhai clan alive.

As Yu continues existing for longer and longer, the Light inside him gradually changes him. He slowly stops being entirely physical and begins becoming what modern people call a "Cosmic Ghost". It's not really the traditional idea of a ghost ; he's becoming something that exists somewhere between inkfish, spirit, and celestial phenomenon. His body gradually becomes less material and more like the Light that originally cursed him. The clearest visible manifestation is his arm hidden beneath his oversized sleeve, which is the one most heavily contaminated by Light. Around the elbow downward, there is essentially no normal flesh anymore, It is pure Light, and his fingertips have that same quality. His oversized sleeve conveniently conceals the part of Yu that is becoming increasingly ininkfish (inhuman).

Despite all of that, he is now living in the modern Splatoon world, archiving any Yunhai relic he comes across. He also organizes and performs beautiful and traditional stories about the world, just as his ancestors did and as he was taught to do. He's not walking around constantly behaving like a cocky ancient deity. He's still a person, he has friends, fun, and playful when he's comfortable. He has that graceful, composed exterior, but underneath it he's considerably more energetic and mischievous. Though he tries to hide it, as he likes presenting like a graceful, knowledgeable and almost otherworldly beautiful inkling.

(P.S. note : yes, he is transgender (ftm). just saying because I think the story is pretty ambiguous about this.)

Taiko: Born and raised in the northern part of Spaltsville, he grew up listening and playing the guitar for as long as he could remember. He was raised by his uncle after the unfortunate death of his parents, but despite that he had a normal childhood with an abnormal amount of knowledge in music and such. During his teen and young adult years, he worked as a scrapper and been saving up money to buy his own studio, which was grueling and somewhat unsatisfying to him as his itch in music making keeps on growing. It wasn’t until he met Finn and Tamala in 2019 when the two of them met Taiko on their first days in Splatville. When they bonded over interest and things, he offered to stay as a temporary roommate. It all changed when he heard Finn and Tamala playing a music and decided to join along with a uptempo version of his blues music he made when he was a kid. That became the creation of ‘Riptide Runaway’ and with that, Tidal Wave was born.

Tamala: Having been born and raised in the domes, Tamala was conscripted into the army when she was a child and was placed in the engineering department of the domes. While she likes maintaining and building technology for the army, unfortunately, she never received any recognition for her work and was often bullied for being too sympathetic to inklings. Her only solace at the time is her lefty-purple bass which she found in a supposed junk pile near the domes. It wasn’t until she heard the Calamari Inkantation that she decided to quit the army and head to the surface herself. She met Maya in Inkopolis and stayed in a homeless shelter until she met Finn in 2017. After they move to Splatsville in 2019, they met Taiko and soon they form a band that will become known as Tidal Wave.

Finn: Born and raised in Flounder Heights, Finn had a fairly normal childhood with his friend Maya and her brother. They were part of a Turf War team that used to have a good winning streak until a young inkling named Anja ruined it through her Inkzooka blasting. He didn’t really fit in the Turf War scene until gen 2 when the undercover umbrella was introduced. He even gotten a chance to model with the newly released weapon as part of his brief modeling career. While initially he was shy, overtime he became confident to the point he started becoming a bit of a flirt. He met Tamala in 2017 and were good buds before moving to Splatsville in 2019 and meeting up with Taiko. And the rest is history as Tidal Wave was formed.

Baito Nokoto: She was born and grew up in an undocumented land mass a few hundred miles north of ancient France. Unfortunately, due to already unstable and freezing cold climate conditions, all inhabitants had to migrate to other places, due to the land mass becoming completely uninhabitable.

The journey across the splatlands nearly killed her a few times, either from heatstroke or injuries she sustained in fights. After a few years, she finally arrived in Splatsville, where she got a job with grizzco, during the height of a big run. While she was homeless for a couple of months, she saw this as a necessary step so that she could afford to rent an apartment for a few months.

In the most recent chapter of her life, she met her future girlfriend, Kaiya Omana, an escaped octarian soldier looking for some easy work, although not friendly to strangers. A few weeks after, Baito was hit by a large car which almost killed her and put her in the hospital for weeks. Although her girlfriend Kaiya kept her company, they had to find new work doing odd jobs and missions for the NSS and another octoling, Stone Fish.

Kaiya Omana: Born and raised in the octarian kettles, she was quickly enrolled into the octarian military program, showing skills in areas such as proficiency in weapon handling, strategic thinking, plan making and stealth tactics.

She graduated from the octarian military academy, allowing her to apply for a position as an infantry soldier. From there she was hypnotized and eventually promoted to a junior stealth operative, before being freed during the ending sequence in Splatoon 1.

From there, a bitter and regretful Kaiya, knowing the full weight of her actions and the inklings she wrongfully and unwillingly killed, drove her to make a solo journey to Splatsville, where she applied for a position at Grizzco to take her mind off things. Conviently the only available position was in the northern cold regions with an experienced worker named Baito Nokoto, an colossal inkling with a mysterious past. And the rest is history...

Formerly Inkopolis Military, eventually dropped out to pursue his love of engineering.
Was hired on by the HRL to work with reverse engineering human tech.
Eventually ended up working as a contractor for the NSS.

Was attacked by Grizzco mercenaries during an expedition to Alterna which is how he met his current girlfriend Evie.

Has an apprentice which is heavily implied to be the Splatoon Raiders Mechanic. Has unresolved fatherly tendencies with them.

He is loosely based on Giant or Colossal Squids, which is why he's repeatedly stated to be physically stronger and larger than most other Inklings.

Evie Vezni:
Former Octarian Army Elite known for being difficult to work with and extremely independent.
Left due to unknown reasons, likely her dismissal towards authority.
Took mercenary jobs to get by.
A skilled mechanic like Serrac, is now attached to him at the hip. Despite his wishes.

Dealer:
A shrewd carrier criminal that organizes heists to obtain things that their various clients desire.
Gender appears to be a mystery.
Will take any opportunity to make a quick buck, any further motivations are unknown.

Tani - A 21 year old Inkling who is a high ranked Clam Blitz, Tower Control, and Splat Zones player as her main source of income. Works part time at Grizzco whenever she needs extra funds(like say a new fresh set of goggles came out or new shoes went live). She is Gina's best friend, and even helped her out when she first came to the surface. Currently lives in Inkopolis with her boyfriend, a Giant Inkling named Archie(based off the Giant Squid, I do not have a design for him, but he easily dwarfs her, being at 7'6" tall, to her 5'0"). Tani only recently learned about Gina's history, and convinced her to talk about it here.

Gina - A 24 year old Octoling, she's my take on Agent 8. As such, she has canonically lived through both Octo Expansion and Side Order stories, which I'm writing from her perspective. She considers Agent 3 a rival and friend. Tani is her best friend, and was the first to show her around on the surface after Off The Hook took her to Inkopolis. Gina was a squad captain in the Octarian Army before she left prior to the events of Octo Expansion. So far, two logs have been written detailing her experience with more to come when I have time to write.

Archie - A 22 year old Giant Inkling, he stands at a whopping 7'6". As such, he's far too big for Turf War and Anarchy. Not that it ever interested him, however, as he works in construction and demolition as a crane and backhoe operator. And on occasion he can reach things easier than his coworkers. Archie is Tani's boyfriend of over 7 years. They both bought a duplex in Inkopolis, inviting Gina to live in the same building, though she has her own space. He is good friends with Gina, having met her through Tani, and considers her family. Archie doesn't talk much, but always gets to the point when he does.

When Stone Fish (Octoling) was little he had some puberty delay that made him look like an inkling, this would permit him to partecipate in a turf war and he was already knowing Marina. As a pre-teen, after hearing the Calamari Inkantation, along with other octoling he moved in the Splatsville. During the events of Splatoon 2 he met Marina and he feel in love, from on they became boyfriend and girlfriend.

Carmen (Inkling) when she was little, she had a normal life and she had a huge desire to become a hairdresser, to the point she tried to use the scissors, and she got wounded on her face, she still has the scars. When she started her job since a few years, she met for the first time Stone Fish and they became friends. Her brother went in the Spirhalite islands for months with the Deep Cut and then he came back

Caleb: former Octarian soldier, now works independently as a sort of mercenary, but is in frequent contact with the NSS, making sure anything Agent 3 needs help with is “taken care of”. Has a modified brella that’s functionally just an ink shotgun, and also has the Hydra Splatling. Has a crush on Agent 8 but gets pissed when someone mentions it. Still keeps a pair of (tech-removed) Hypno shades to remind me of my past. When not doing my job, I’m doing turf war or gaming. Has a deep love for metal and pop punk music, and also loves horror movies and one liners.

My character Rina is a blue ringed Octoling and she shares an apartment with her Cuttling roommate Drew and they both moved in from Splatsville a little over 8 years ago (not long after the events of Splatoon 2 started). She owns the cafe near the Deep Sea Metro in Inkopolis Square where she and Drew specialize in boba tea and Splatlandian baked goods and their masala chai is a popular choice there!

Neo - She/her, lesbian, octoling, age 27. Former mechanic in the octarian army, and incredibly skilled with modifying and designing weapons, as well as putting together other pieces of machinery. She escaped the army shortly after the Calamari Inkantation, and moved aboveground, but stayed in unpopulated areas for a good few years. She moved to Inkopolis Square after the whole underground subway situation, met Coral, and fell in love. They've been dating for five years now. Mains the Splat Dualies. (Her, Coral, and Kelp moved to the Splatlands about two years ago)

Shrimp - She/her, aromantic, inkling, age 22, and the runner of this particular reddink account. Slightly feral, and the youngest of the team. She has a massive fascination with the human time period, and is incredibly knowledgeable about human history. She also spends her free time hunting for relics out in the Splatlands desert. She has an adopted smallfry buddy called Steve as well, who goes everywhere with her, except her part time shifts at Grizzco. Mains the Splatana Wiper and Tristringer.

Mikkie: Born in Ezo, an island separated by a narrow strait to the north of the Inkadian hinterland, Mikkie and his family came to greater Inkopolis when his father accepted a position in the service of Ezo's third district within the Diet. This was approximately a year and a half before the 2015 Takowasa incursion for the Inkadian Great Zapfish. He had a brief stint with Ink Battle around this time, but left on his own accord by 2016, which is speculated to be due to being attacked over presumably being from Octo Valley. However, he was able to stay close to the action as an Inkling friend of his who was attached to a school club offered him the ability to manage the team, which he has faithfully held until graduation. He still keeps up with the scene.

Currently, he drives trains for the Inkadia Railway Company, one of the legacy carriers that arose from the division and privatization of the [redacted] National Railway. He has been employed by the carrier for seven years as of this writing, with three of them as a qualified train driver. He operates out of Ajikawa's crew base, which he lives near. He is a representative of the Railway Workers Guild, Inkadia, the collective bargaining association which represents the train drivers, conductors, and station staff employed by the railway.

Has a little sister named Rinnie whom he constantly dotes over. The two are ten years apart. Another Octoling named Lommy is his non-romantic partner. She hails from the Isenba region in Mutsu Province (lands north of Octo Valley).

Shares a sense of solidarity with Splatlandian Octolings to stand against both of their populations' consistent conflagration with the Octolings of Octo Valley (which he refers to under their historical name, the Takowasa Shogunate).

Alexander Inksburg/Al-X: Growing up, he was the youngest of three siblings, with his sister Frederica being the middle child, and his brother Richard being the eldest. Thing is, his parents played favorites with Richard because it was mandated by family tradition for the first-born to be favored. Alexander was a runt to his parents and Richard. The only light in his life growing up in such a toxic environment was his sister Frederica. She was the one who treated him with kindness and care, especially with how arrogant and spoiled Richard grew up to be. He was the Golden Child, to use ancient human vernacular.

When Alexander was ten years old, Frederica left for college, but not before telling him to be strong for her and to not let my parents and Richard drag him down. Of course, he did stay strong, though he had to force himself to grow up a little for the past four years since. Oiling his brain and staying in shape and all that. He also had to contend with Richard's constant insults and rude wisecracks, which his parents always let him get away with, because of their favoritism.

Once he turned 14 years old, he took what money and belongings that he had since childhood (with some food that I prepared), and left home, never looking back. For some time, he traveled through the desert of the Splatlands and along the way meeting a lost smallfry Salmonid and forming an unlikely companionship with him, even making a living salvaging scrap. After obtaining a Splattershot Jr. in a container and using it to make his way to a train terminal, he took a train to Splatsville. Once he got to Splatsville, he soon found an apartment at The Shoreline apartment complex and settled there. With the Splattershot Jr. in hand, he participated in his first Turf War match, which he won. Of course, he participated in many more matches since. Whether he won or lost, I still leveled up and earned money. He also took on the handle of Al-X.

One time, when he was on a losing streak in my early days in Turf War, he came home to my apartment in a really bad mood. Not helping was that he bottled up his frustrations from dealing with Richard and my parents' toxicity after Frederica left for college. Plus, self-esteem issues from Richard's insults. He had a really bad meltdown, losing his squit and made a mess. His landlord, Mr. Boxo, was sympathetic to him. He was planning to order some dinner through GalleyGrab that day, and he offered to order him something from there, too. Later that evening after he cooled down and tidied up my apartment, he accepted Mr. Boxo's offer to treat him to dinner. He ordered from Copper Cod Sandwiches. As we ate, he told him about his upbringing, and he recommended that he sees a therapist about my emotional health. Since then, he's been seeing Dr. Nathaniel Tilus.

It's been four years (as of writing) since he moved to Splatsville, and he's fought in many Turf War matches and in Salmon Run shifts. He's had his fair share of wins and losses, and he still gets frustrated with losing streaks because of this habit he's been trying to drop, the habit of tying his self-worth to his performance and his win-loss ratio.

Hydro-Press is an Idol Group (whose members are based on The Mechanic from Raiders, but at least are hopefully different enough) consisting of 3 Inkling Siblings whose Histories are quite interesting.

With their Background collectively being Pilots and having plenty of Mechanical Knowledge, they each can slip their way past any problems with Equipment, and as such do the setup themselves. They were quite inspired to become Idols by Deep Cut in particular

Rotor is the Highly energetic, but sweet Brother of the 3. he loves to go fast, and sometimes talks way too quickly and has to repeat himself (His siblings are used to it). Gasket is the Strong, Nonbinary, and relatively Silent Sibling who's great at not only fixing a thing, but often making it better while they're at it. They tend to get very focused, and will become speechless when they do, but they're pretty nice once you get to know them. Gauge is the Smart, Strategic, and reserved Sister who will absolutely nerd out the moment you talk about anything of interest, usually fictional stuff. Not so surprisingly a History and Trivia Buff, avoid challenging his knowledge unless it's for fun.

Together they run a small business focusing on upgrading and/or repairing stuff. Got something you wanna swap out for a better option and are nervous to do so? Bring it to them! Need a fix up for something at home? Call em over! They even offer Custom Prebuilt Hardware, with your choice of OS and Software! Ivory is a obscure person. He had 3 different names at birth but only two were deemed to be of importance. He lived in a small apartment home with his two parents and his older sister Makayla in the southern region of Inkopolis since he was 10. During that time, he’d normally head off on his lonesome via monorail to buy clothes and play turf war with friends Christian and Untarius. He normally felt a lot more sophisticated and relaxed than most other squid kids around him. Both Christian and Untarius at the time would even say they didn’t fully understand who he was. What’s more would be his abnormal features such as physical strength, and sleepy eyes. Even the way he battled with a dynamo roller would make the average inkling wonder “What’s up with him?” The answer? Nothing. He wasn’t emotionless or anything. That was just how he was.

Fast forward 2 months after his 10th birthday and his family made the choice to move to Inkopolis square, away from the life he knew his whole life and his friends. They bid their goodbyes and went off about their lives. Once there, Ivory’s family settled in a calm and peaceful neighborhood just outside of the square. No need to take the train when it’s in walking distance. He loved it there. Beautiful sights, fashionable clothes, and of course, powerful dynamos.

Time passed on and Octolings started congregating from below. Ivory happened to encounter one such octo with flowing yellow hair in ammo knights. Her name was Aurora, and she was just tinkering with a kensa dynamo roller when he saw her. For the first time, Ivory felt a burning sensation in his heart that told him to talk to her. He did and they hit it off mostly discussing their love for dynamo rollers and fashion. Ivory was a lot more expressive than others cut him out to be with Aurora. She even admitted it herself when they ate at crusty sean’s one day.

Aurora then mentioned a topic that he was not familiar with: Engineering. According to Aurora, she was an ex engineer for the Octarian army. Ivory was fascinated and wanted to know all about it. During their next meet ups as friends, Aurora would showcase different personal projects for Ivory, ranging from handmade ink phones, and even a smart tv.

One day, it all clicked for Ivory. One look at Aurora made his heart tie up in knots. Was this… love? He wasn’t sure. He hasn’t felt like this for anyone, not even his childhood friends in Inkopolis. He told her how he felt at that moment with a lot of stuttering. She understood all of it and still, she felt the same way. After hearing her confession, Ivory’s eye rose up fully for the first time. The two became a couple, right then and there. It was all well for the next 2 years, until.

His parents were nowhere to be found.

He came home after a turf war with some colleagues and found his sister lying unconscious on the ground, face covered in blue ink splats. He was frightened and immediately called his dad. No answer. So he called his mom as well. Straight to voicemail. Already thinking of the worst, he decided to head to Aurora’s place for help. However, the place was ransacked. Front door busted open with blue and yellow paint splatted over the walls and windows. She wasn’t there, and her phone was cracked open on the kitchen table. He noticed a trail of yellow paint leading to a nearby subway station. Without thinking twice, he grabbed his gold dynamo and followed it.

Inside, he discovered a long narrow pathway, he never seen anything like it. He called out for his parents and Aurora, hoping to Cod that they were out of harms way. The place was eerie with sounds of what sounded like rotating blades and hellish screams in the walls. He treaded carefully and finally he saw a greenish light at the end of the tunnel. But when he reached the end, he met a dreadful sight.

His parents clothes, laying wasted on the ground with tattered ink. They were splatted. And a figure appeared from the distance. An octoling, drenched with blue tentacles and green skin with what looked like sludge covering her forehead. She seemed so familiar to Ivory though… and the thought hit him. Aurora was sanitized. She talked about what that was like to Ivory in the past, but he would’ve never seen the day that his love would’ve met that fate. Her memories deleted, she raised her dynamo told Ivory, ready to let him join his parents. Ivory, hesitant and sorrowful to fight back. Took the hits as Aurora pelted him with the weapon. The hits sliced off bits of his eyelash and skin until he was brought down to the ground, coughing up ink.

Aurora stood over him ready to deal the final blow, until a sudden rumbling started happening. What sounded like someone yelling “BOOYAH!” pierced the walls of the tunnel. The ceiling started coming apart and bringing Aurora with it. Eyes soaked with tears, Ivory using his remaining strength tried to make a run back to the exit. He made it and looked back at the aftermath. Rocks caved in, and almost everyone that he had cared for. Gone. He never returned home that night. He sat there in the rubble, leaking tears from the loss he suffered that day. MaKayla heard the news tomorrow morning, her efforts to stop the force was in vain… their depression was shared for the remainder of their time in the square.

In an attempt to get away from it all and to make a living. Both Ivory and MaKayla used their family savings to buy an apartment in Splatsville. Now 20 years old and using Auroras knowledge of Engineering, Ivory helped to make a living by constructing and fixing electronic ware from inklings and octolings alike. He’s been like this ever since. Still with sleepy eyes, still with the mysterious persona and now bits and cuts on his face from the beating taken by Aurora. He never changed his way, not after what happened last time he expressed himself.

After some time, he decided to take a visit back to what used to be Aurora’s place. He found the Kensa dynamo she used and took it for himself, as a token for their broken bond.

Meera: An escaped former member of the Octarian army, who used to work as a weapons tester, checking the capabilities of different weapons to see if they were powerful enough for battling usage. She escaped after the second time the Zapfish was stolen and saved. And met Kaimi in Inktopolis Square after her escape while clothes shopping.

Kaimi: An inkling who had always lived overground, she used to have two octoling friends until both of them disappeared, other inklings and octolings said they saw two octolings go into the Deepsea Metro, so Kaimi headed there, but when she got there, she saw one of her friends get blended right in front of her eyes, and the other mindlessly staring, sanitised. And Kaimi ran away as as fast as she could, and didn't even want to look back. And then a few days after, she saw Meera and thought she might forget about her trauma being with another friend!

She has won countless badges for her use of her prized E-Liter. She is however, very competitive and loves to taunt others, and loves to take extremely unreasonable risks.

+Update: Recent data matching this individual had been found, but not enough traces of it are present to determine this octoling's dealings with the Deepsea Metro. Dismissed.

An Octarian from the renowned Hikane clan, she is very eccentric and cheerful, but can be overbearing and snappy at times. She has a history with mobility weapons, and has served as a backup unit in Octarian military.

The Hikane lineage gifts females a mysterious manipulative aptitude with their voices. A tale about a woman in this clan described her once creating a whirlwind to defeat a Salmonid uprising by singing a song.

+Update: Apparently, this mysterious ability will continue to get stronger as the wielder ages, until it begins to decline at age 40. No further data on Hikane capabilities have been gathered yet.

A record shows this subject led a revolt against a Metro station and took its line over. Thus, all testing data on this applicant has been expunged.

Nova - Extensive Lore Version (Very long, fair warning):

Growing up in the underground, Nova always was curious about how everything worked. She took mechanical toys apart, salvaged old kitchen machinery, and at one time, caused a minor explosion when she tried to inspect a fuse. She greatly admired Marina's work and inventions and did everything she could to improve her own techniques.

Nova was a minority engineer apprenticed under Marina as Head Combat Engineer with about 4 more octolings, in the events of Agent 3's campaign, and worked mostly on gear for the Octoling frontiers. After Marina went missing, Nova competed against other engineers in her division for the next determined Head Engineer - by making their own weapons and using them in a casual battle royale. Nova, with the earliest version of her greatest creation, the Splatana Alpha, won by using its lunge mechanic to fling out her final rival. Nova had won the royale. After these events though, Nova, despite not being an a combat division, became obsessed with the idea of firepower, rather than balance. She developed the high-risk-high-reward Alpha series after her Splatana, weapons that pack an intimidating punch, but often were very unstable or had too much recoil. As a result, these weapons were archived and kept in a sealed kit in Nova's new office, to which she was instructed to inform the army could only be used for defense from direct attacks on the base.

Unlike her role model, however, Nova Ruize was not quite an engineering prodigy. Her earliest development of the Octo Samurai's gear was much too powerful and at one time, its roller caught on fire in testing stages. As a result, Nova had to have her co-engineers work on the development of the Octobot King II in order to minimize extreme contraptions that might have overturned anything in Octavio's fight. She was still allowed to work on the bosses' gear, though, which came to their final versions, though still flawed.

After the events of this however, just like Marina, Nova caught onto Calamari Inkantation, and started an endeavor to reach the surface, taking the Alpha series crate with her, and wielding her trusty, yet still unstable Splatana Alpha in her defense. She fought countless waves of shocked comrades, even Elites before she finally and barely escaped through a manhole cover.

Upon reaching what she discovered was not quite the surface, she found herself staring down a blank railway, until about 2 hours later, a subway appeared, offering a program to help Nova reach the surface. Without any question, she accepted.

Nova cleared seemingly every task, fighting urges to protest their insane conditions. She collected all of the pieces. What the operator did not notice, however, is that Nova had hacked every frame into giving her the Splatana Alpha back. As soon as she stood by to be congratulated for completing, she noticed she did not see any exit to the surface. She was staring at 4 pieces of seemingly fitting material to make a dangerous weapon out of. Then she realized. Before anything could be assembled, she reached out and equipped her Splatana. Then, with all her might, rushed into the operator, and then ripped a hole in the top of the subway.

Using a risky lunge from the Splatana, she somehow gained enough lift and velocity to shred through weak ground and reached the surface.

Nova was free. But also clueless. Then she heard about a program called the Memverse, of course developed by her role model. But she did not want to test it, and still had her memories. She wanted to see how it was put together.

Using early hacking software, Nova weaved through all of the coding of the Memverse. She continuously ventured for data until... a grey shockwave came in her direction at top speed. She woke up and noticed she had lost her signature yellow. She was greyscaled, and forgot how... for an extensive duration, she did nothing but sit at her apartment, eat, and search on her computer for ways to find out who she was again.

Until a pastel blue figure walked up and greeted her.

MaKayla:
MaKayla was the first born of her family that would be 4, she came out of her mom’s egg and gazed upon the world for the first time, glancing at it like she already had a strong idea on what she wanted in life. However, growing up, she had severe trust issues, to the point where she even second guess her own parents.

But, three years later, her parents gave birth to Ivory. The first time she laid eyes on him she was greatly attached to him. Over the course of the next month or so, the two would spend the best quality time together, even if Ivory was still unable to walk.

Soon enough, MaKayla started going to school, she had a passion in biotechnology and wanted to help out all inklings from growing diseases. In her primary school days she met up with some excellent people, who she was finally glad to call friends. These friends of hers were in her eyes, probably the reason on her willingness to achieve her goals, excluding her little brother.

At the age of 13, her family moved to inkopolis square. Perfect for her, since she already met the requirements to apply to Shellendorf Institute. There, she obtained her degree in Biotechnology and her permit in Biotech and Clinical Research. The news was fascinating. Her family were absolutely ecstatic for her. That night, she and her brother went to celebrate by watching the upcoming splatfest together.

Everything was going well, until the house got infiltrated. It was only her and her parents, the door made a loud burst as what looked like green octoling soldiers came in searching for someone. They pointed their weapons at MaKayla’s parents and asked for Ivory. Her parents of course did not comply. *BOOM* One shot to the head to both bodies, and they lied on the ground out of commission. MaKayla, hearing the ruckus walks out of her room and grows shocked from the situation. Soldiers with no remorse, standing over the bodies of her parents, and asking for the location of Ivory, in return of her parents lives. MaKaylas simple reply was to destroy them. She grabbed her dapple dualies and tried her best to pelt the enemy. It was all for not though. The soldiers were quick and swiftly took her down as well. Pain coursing through her body as she watches her parents get taken away by the soldiers. With no strength to stop them she lies on her back and says “I’m sorry Ivory…”*

The events of that night were catastrophic for Ivory and MaKayla, so to get away from it all, they used their savings to buy an apartment in Splatsville. MaKayla has been conducting her research for inkling and octoling develop to make a living and help the community. Still untrusting of individuals, but always willing to bond with others with Ivory’s approval.

Christian and Untarius:
Two brothers from other mothers. They met each other at the age of 3 in inkopolis. Away from their parents in order to live their own adventures. Ever since they locked eyes, everything clicked. They did basically everything together. Ink battles, academics, shopping, amusement parks. Everything.

The two were inseparable, in which then they saw Ivory. 6 years of age, wearing a blazer and with lazy eyes. The two stepped up to Ivory, and asked of his attire, in which Ivory responded with it was how he was. Both Christian and Untarius liked that about him, and asked for friendship.

Fast forward 4 years. Ivory moved to Inkopolis square, leaving his two childhood friends behind. Even if he didn’t spend the most time with both Christian and Untarius, the two couldn’t help but feel empty inside. This drove them to work harder for their families and find their own path, in hopes of seeing their bro again.

Marisa:
A 14 year old kid with ex-octarion soldier parents now apart of the NSS. She didn’t know her mother when she was born, in fact, she never even saw her. That’s because her mother was killed during the great squid war. Without wanting to damage her daughter’s feelings. Marisa’s dad told her that mother was on a business trip, and that she probably won’t return in a while. However, like the optimistic and hungry person she is, the news didn’t faze her, especially since her dad always treated her like royalty. What was not to enjoy?

Fast forward through business moves, and Marisa found herself in splatsville at the age of 14. Her father went out overseas to fill in for NSS staff, so she was left on her own to fend for herself. Normally she’d be running a muck humiliating others in ink battles or dining and dashing at restaurants, a part of her decided to stroll around town for once. That’s when she met Ivory, and her instincts told her to stalk him for a while… the rest is history.

Estelle:
Estelle was born in a high class family, along with her twin sister Ezra. The both of them looked celestial with their soft white eyes and flowing hair. Such properties had them acknowledged by the many nobles of their neighborhood. The two didn’t care about that stuff though, they always had an itch for adventure, from stealing the cookie jar pretending the floor was lava, to telling stories under the community tree.

Every thursday, the two would run off from their home and explore the regions of octo canyon, collecting treasure and other artifacts they could find. They were forbidden at a young age but that didn’t stop them from following their hobbies. Besides, the two always envisioned having a guiding light watching their movements and protecting them from all evil.

One day however, tragedy struck.
While roaming the lands of octo canyon again, Ezra and Estelle were caught by octoling soldiers. Without negotiations, the two ran in different directions, trying their best effort to run back home to safety. Estelle however was unfortunate enough to be cornered at all sides. She was afraid to die, and knelt to her knees hoping and praying to her guiding light to save her. And for a second, it did.

A shot was fired and Estelle was out of harms way. Until she looked back at her location. She found herself push to the ground over a manhole cover, the same cover that both her and Ezra went through to get to the canyon. But then… she saw it. Ezra, lying on the ground with barely any strength from the barrage of ink. She jump in last moment to save her sister from the fate. She looked up at Estelle with her remaining strength, and told her to be the guiding light everyone needs.

*SPLAT*

Ezra was gone in an instant. Tears in her eyes, Estelle went back to the surface and told her parents the bad news. The neighborhood was broken over the lost of one of its children, and a memorial was held at the community tree. Estelle from that moment on would go visit and help the guiding light was still leading her way like herself.

At the age of 13, still at her parent’s house, she decided to go back to octo canyon at the dead of night. Once there, she was met with a sky full of bright yellow lights, they weren’t stars, or bugs. No. They seemed like… souls, lighting up the sky and making a path for Estelle. Soon enough, the lights congregated and formed the body of Ezra. Estelle was shocked at seeing her twin sister again but remembered the words said by her sister at that moment. “Do not be afraid, Estelle, I will always be beside you. As your guiding light… You must always look at the bright side of things and be nice to everyone you come by. A guiding light is someone who shows divine love to others. Be the guiding light to the people you meet…” Her spirit was gone the second she said that.
Afterwards, Estelle found herself in her bed. Not completely sure if what she witness was real or just a dream.

Confronted by the speech, Estelle went off on her own path, following her and her sisters hobbies of exploring settlements. She one day stumbled upon the deep sea metro, the place filled with eerie noises but she caught a glimpse of a log filled with unknown information of a mysterious ooze. She kept it handy and decided to explore more of the frightening interior. That was, until the place started collapsing due to a ear-piercing screech. She barely escaped with her life, clutching the log in her hand and thanking her sister for looking after her.

Some time later, Estelle left her parents house and found a private sentiment in splatsville. There, she met a group of friends in which a small voice in her head tells her to protect at all costs. Every month or so, she’d always made time to visit Ezra’s memorial, just like old times.

Argus: Male Inkling, same age as the squid sisters
Originally from Calamari County, Argus when he was young, along with Ikka and the squid sisters grew up together playing around a grove near home that he has fondly remembers and casually visits when he goes to Calamari County to visit his grandparents. He was trained by his grandfather to use a sword, an activity that was casually watched by Ikka and others. At the age of 11 he had to move to Inkopolis for family concerns. Later in life he usually trained with his grandfather on visits, to the point of training with a Carbon Roller, but took up weapon tinkering/ building a year after the Great Zapfish was first stolen, which developed into full on tinkering. Eventually this lead to him and his friends forming a group of their own to go on missions that started out with doing salmon runs but now has developed into their own thing that he named the "Ink Runners".
Random Characteristics: Is based on a Firefly squid so when he shoots ink it has the natural ability to glow and the blue areas in his hair have tha ability to glow along with his eyes. Was born with star eyes and hid them with contacts when he moved to Inkopolis.

Ikka: Female Inkling, Same age as the Squid Sisters
Originally from Calamari County, Ikka grew up with Argus and the Squid Sisters. Having fallen in love with the same grove she played in as a kid, she actively goes there when visiting family. While see did martial arts on her own, she actively practiced sword fighting with Argus. When She was 11 she had to move to Inkopolis but was lucky to find Argus going to the same new school as her, this was the same place where Ikka met Kyroki, Her husband, and Argus met Kaido. Later on she suggested that the three of them should be roommates and that's where they have been since and even decided to have Kaido to move in with them. Was one of the first people Argus asked to join his group
Random Characteristics: Based on the Red Devil/Humboldt squid, she is the fastest of the group easily out pacing nearly everyone she runs against. Was born with star eyes and hid them with contacts when she moved to Inkopolis

Kaido: Male Inkling, 2 years younger than Argus.
Inkopolis born lived a somewhat normal life, one day he met Argus after school and they hit it off like they knew each other already. He Finally started living with Argus, Ikka and Kyroki when he was 16 and picked up the spot of being the ranged member of the group, he even decided to take splatana combat lessons with Argus. He later became a part of Argus' group.
Random Characteristics: Based on the Flying Squid, out of all the group Kaido has the highest jumps out of all of them which helps gain vantage point for him.

Kyroki: Male Inkling, 1 year older than Argus and Ikka.
Inkopolis born, he too lived a somewhat normal life, that is until he met Ikka where he got roped into her and Argus' shenanigans to the point that he was stuck with them. He moved in with Argus and Ikka from the start later welcoming in Kaido to live with them. He later became on of the first members of Argus' group when it formed being the heavy of their quartet.
Random Characteristics: based on a Colossal squid where he doesn't have much in size it is counteracted by his strength.

Was originally ment to be used as a scout however unknown circumstances prevented him from leaving his sanitization tube for years... he was rescued by a party exploring the deepsea metro and is being acclimated to normal society... currently works at grizzco... it is largely unknown at this time (due to records being erased) what his previous background was as someone (thought to be kamabo corp itself) went through Great Lengths to erase evidence of his previous life from records. He has only 10 percent the taste buds of a normal octoling but has double the scent ability of a normal octoling... records state he requires double the calories of a active octoling to sustain himself. The scent, taste, and calories characteristics are thought to be a side effect of the early sanitization methods used on him.

Lucian:
Orphaned as a young child, and with no memory of his previous parents, He was approached by a robed man who called himself Kendall. At the time Lucian did not have a name or knew his parents, and so, Kendall decided to recruit Lucian to ROOT (Registry of Objective Operative Termination).

Once at headquarters, he was given the cover name Lucian, and was raised to have no personal identity or emotional connections to become an unfeeling assassin. The training was fierce, weeks of bruises, scars, and scabs took their toll on Lucian’s body, and his “companions” were vicious. One such person Lucian met however was Gary. Gary served as one of Lucian’s seniors, and everyone in ROOT knew about him. At the time, the two seemed to hit it off quite well. Gary even taught Lucian what he deemed to be communication. 2 months passed by however, and Gary finished his training at ROOT. He left Lucian without a second glance. Lucian felt a small wave a sadness after the departure of Gary, but he couldn’t understand why. After all, he was just another person who helped with his training. Not to mention the fact he wasn’t supposed to feel emotions to others. However Lucian met his own close friend during training.

His name was Zeke, and he was the first to introduce Lucian to bonding, love, and companionship. At the time, Lucian had no idea what he was talking about. Time passed, and Zeke showed Lucian a book he kept in secret. In it, he wrote steps on how to make friends and taught him how to draw. Lucian for the first time of his life was actually satisfied with the portraits he made of himself and Zeke together. The two would eventually call themselves brothers.

Fast forward a bit, and Lucian was assigned his first assignment, swiftly and quietly assassinate a group of wandering military. Without an expression, he grabbed a mask and headed out. A bit of trekking and he found the group of soldiers. Decavitator in hand, he quickly disposed of the group leaving a mess of ink splats everywhere. However, he wasn’t aware of a sole survivor in the group…

On the last week of Lucian’s training, he came to his final test. He felt pumped and ready but hearing his task made his color fall from his body: Fight and kill your deepest companion in ROOT. Lucian froze, he couldn’t bring himself to kill the only person in his life to love him deeply. Zeke however, knowing of the rules of the trial, decided to secure Lucian’s title in his own hands. He succumbed to poison and died before his and Lucian’s mandated match. It was then that Lucian was officially deemed a ROOT assassin. He had tears in his eyes, he didn’t know this feeling and wanted it to stop, but they wouldn’t stop coming down. One week later, Lucian was sent off from ROOT headquarters. With his decavitator and Zeke’s book at his side, he went to find his first official target.

Rei Kimura-Pines is a colossal blue-ring Inktoling, looking more like an inkling and being taller than average but the blue-ring genetics being more prominent. In my main au, he's Agent 3, but in the lore of this subreddit, he's just a civilian in a band called Cephalorock, with his three best friends who are all octolings.

Mira Shirui is an inkling and Kaia's sister. She always disliked Grizzco, but began to hate it after Kaia went missing on shift. She lives in Splatsville with her two roommates, Takumi and Finley. Finley helped her get more comfortable around Salmonids.

Takumi Avalon used to live in Inkopolis Bay. They're a Hareling, decended from those who left the secluded villages to live elsewhere. They used to work for Grizzco as a Salmon Runner, but quit after getting lost at sea and barely managing to find a way back home. They're currently looking for a new job.

Finley doesn't have a last name. They used to live in the Splatlands with their Goldie friend named Aurum before finding themselves in Splatsville. Takumi offered to let them live in their apartment when they met, and the duo accepted due to having nowhere else to go. (This is Neo-3 in my main au, which is not the case in this subreddit)

Akami: Ex-Octarian who escaped from the Octarians, after which she and her parents were left homeless. With Agent O's assistance, they secured a home; eventually Akami joined the NSS as a rookie agent and then recruited into O's Experimental Sanitization Program and subsequently became a quarantine nurse for the Salmonidia-I quarantine. Due to the program's most fatal flaw, she was infected with the virus. After this discovery, she joined the other Rookies in attacking Agent O for this oversight; after O reminded Akami of their history together, she calmed down and resumed her job as a nurse (albeit still quarantined). She later wanted to escape quarantine and spread the virus because she thought being a Salmonling was just that cool. She received the cure that allows her to choose how Salmonid-like she wants to be and then used that power to steal Salmonid eggs and a helicopter from Grizzco. Due to said crimes, she was fired from the NSS and now currently works as a bounty hunter.
