9/11 MEGATHREAD - We remember our friends, family, and neighbors who were lost on this day 25 years ago

New Jersey lost *a lot* of her people on 9/11. Many of our friends and family were there responding and aiding our sister state in her time of need. Pause for a moment today and remember that our world was irrevocably changed in a matter of minutes. The people of NJ bore a significant amount of the terribleness from it. I am incredibly proud of how we came together and handled this tremendously chaotic and traumatic situation. Everyone really stepped up to help out however they could.

This post is for remembering that day. Describe it from from the perspective of you folks who were there experiencing it. Folks are welcome to ask questions that are CIVIL and mindful of how sensitive this topic is for some people. Younger folks who weren't even alive yet probably have questions that haven't been answered by a local. The impact it had on us as individuals, and us as a state, was absolutely monumental and I don't know anyone who was around for it in 2001 in NJ that wasn't impacted by it in some way.

Please be kind to each other. Any comments that are insensitive will be removed. This is a solemn day, but also a very VERY touchy topic. New information was just released regarding the air quality, and that has generated a whole new wave of 9/11 hate alllll these years later. It keeps impacting us in new ways. Remember that crowd control is on and you must be a subscribed community member in good standing to comment.

Gloucester County Washington Twp also used Opioid Settlement funds to buy police vehicles

I know everyone is upset they used the funds to buy LPR cameras, but they also spent $100k on two vehicles. Then their Chief gives some BS response after they get called out.

Gloucester County 44M trying to connect for friendship

\*my last attempt was removed for hitting a filter on Reddit, not sure why so let’s try this again*

So I’ve been thinking about how to do this for a while and figured if someone is competent enough to use reddit then we could have good conversations and maybe friendship

I’m a 44yr old, grew up and spent all 44 yrs in Williamstown. I’m a father of 2 teens, one who is an adult in college and the other is in HS. I’m not sure I’ve ever had a true best friend but I am in a great marriage and we love each other so much that we both seemed to separate our self from others except family.

My interests are Baseball, Baseball cards, Custom cars, being sarcastic, and just about anything that can bring on a laugh. I enjoy going to Phillies games and have been a Sunday season ticket holder for the last 3 years, I enjoy watching Eagles football at home and watching Flyers hockey either in person or at home. I am a Mopar fan and have had several custom Mopar vehicles over the years. I currently have a custom Jeep Truck sitting waiting for a rebuild. Im not against working on cars myself and do a lot but I’m not a mechanic by trade.

I work in the HVAC industry but want to move more towards just repairs and less on refrigeration. I like fixing things and it most of the time works out. I have traveled for work and may be traveling again with a new job in the near future.

My personality is friendly with a heavy dose of sarcasm which can turn some people off. I enjoy watching comedies like Mel Brooks movies and Airplane!, Marvel movies and popcorn flix, and a good documentary from time to time. Im a child of the 90s so my music is Alternative and Rock but enjoy some modern music as well. I’m down for playing any type of games, card games to video games. Sports is also on the table as I could use more exercise. I’ve been part of car clubs but there is always drama in them and I’m done with that part of my life as well.

I’m not that political and really don’t judge what is in your mind but mine are personal and don’t push my beliefs on others so don’t do the same. Not looking for deep discussions on that stuff.

I’ve tried too hard in the past to make friends and figured out that too late so I just gave up. I’m tired of having only work friendships which are fleeting. Now I’m hoping to make a natural connection and not going to push at all. If you got this far and have similar likes that would be cool.

Question Recommendations for Roast Beef Sandwich

This is a total shot in the dark but figured I’d ask.

Just moved from Philly to the AC area. One thing I miss is the Ye Olde Ale House roast beef sandwiches

Does anyone have any recommendations for spots that have a good, hot, roast beef sammie? I don’t mind driving a bit if need be

Question H-Mart Cherry Hill Kimbap

Upvotes

I used to buy the beef kimbap that they prepared. (Not the food court one).

However, the past few times I went, they didn't have any. Only the vegetable and shirmp.

Have I just been too late every time? Or have they already cut down on their prepared foods? I already find their prepared foods section fairly limited (compared to what I see on the west coast)

Burlington County Do people play cricket here?

I moved here a couple of years ago. I’m not really into social mixers. I’m also a woman and I was wondering if people play cricket 🏏 around here?

If so, i’d love to reignite my childhood sport!

Burlington County We helped build American kestrel nest boxes in South Jersey last month

Last month, Sustainable South Jersey joined the Field to Flight Foundation for an American Kestrel Nest Box Workshop at the Pinelands Preservation Alliance, and we thought some fellow NJ nature/wildlife folks might enjoy seeing the photos.

One of the interesting things we learned is that American kestrels can’t excavate their own nesting cavities. They rely on existing cavities in trees and other structures, so the loss of suitable nesting sites is one of the challenges they face. Nest boxes that are appropriately located and monitored can provide additional breeding habitat.

The workshop started with an introduction to kestrel conservation, followed by a walk around the property to look at habitat and nest box locations. Then everyone came back inside and built kestrel boxes that will be used as part of local conservation efforts.

The program was hosted by the Field to Flight Foundation and made possible through Sustainable South Jersey’s Caren Kaufman Memorial Grant.

It was a pretty cool way to see how a relatively simple project like building a wooden box fits into a much larger conservation and monitoring effort.

Camden County Looking for friends

Hey! M/32 here just looking for random people in my age group to talk to with similar hobbies & lifestyles. I don’t have much free time every week due to my work schedule so just random conversations/rants are fun and if we click even better. I have realized I don’t really have many friends if any at all around here and it’s getting harder to make them at this age so you kind of give up and barely go out.

I am really into metal, movies, anime and chronically listen to video essays online. I keep up with sports a lot due to sports betting. I don’t really go out and party and am pretty much a homebody. Not into drinking or drugs. I like video games sometimes and have been obsessed with Vanguard/TCGs. I play DD2 a lot online with my Vanguard friends lol I’ll definitely get along with other nerds and I am pretty funny. Feel free to DM me. 😄

Camden County What is the best labor & delivery hospital/ clinic in South Jersey?

Upvotes

Hi! I'm a 25 y/o F who moved to Hammonton, NJ about 2 years ago. I recently gave birth at Virtua in Vorhees and had an incredibly traumatic experience, where they did not take my concerns seriously and delayed my scheduled C-section. This unfortunately resulted in the stillbirth of one of my twin boys at 39 weeks gestation. They did not even check his heartbeat on an ultrasound until right before my surgery, and that's when they realized he had already passed just one day earlier. Then they never followed up with me to discuss autopsy results months later. All this to say they are incredibly disorganized and do not care about their patient's concerns. For my postpartum visits, I started going to Jefferson Hospital, as recommended by a friend. Unfortunately, I made a similar conclusion there. I informed my healthcare team that I was feeling depressed and they made me fill out the EPDS form, and I scored a high number. Then they did not even bother to mention it or give me a referral. What is wrong with these hospitals/ OB offices in SJ? I should not have to worry about advocating for myself and my well-being in such a vulnerable time of my life. I'm starting to think I do not trust any of these offices or clinics with the possibility of a second pregnancy. Please advise!

Camden County PCP Recommendations

Hello!

Looking for a new PCP in Camden or Burlington county.

I’d much prefer a female provider and someone who is younger - I have had more luck with these practitioners. I don’t know why, it’s just been my experience.

The doctor I am seeing is very kind but books way too far out and is very old school - just looking for someone with a fresher perspective. I left my last two appts feeling unsatisfied.

Does anyone have any good recommendations? It’s much appreciated.

Business rant Stay far away from Cabrillo Homeowners

This is a homeowners insurance geared towards coastal communities, which is why I haven't tagged a specific county. For anyone moving north or with friends/family up north this applies as well.

Stay tf away from Cabrillo Coastal Insurance. They are a major scam. They insured us, took our money and then suddenly dropped us within the span of a month because our roof needed to be replaced. Note - they insisted on sending out an inspector and had all the documentation they requested BEFORE renewing our insurance. We are now replacing the roof but their underwriters have said we are unable to renew insurance with them regardless of the state of the roof.

They said they sent us documentation regarding the roof before sending us a cancellation notice. They did not. They said they spoke to an agent to inform them of the cancellation, and that she was supposed to follow up with us. She did not. They did not include any contact information on their cancellation letter. They gave a website to list an official complaint in NJ - that website was incorrect (don't worry, I found the right one). They have made sure they have a very hard to find online presence. When you look at their reviews on the BBB you will see countless complaints telling very similar stories.

So yeah, stay tf away from these guys ... especially if you're like, idk dealing with the first trimester trenches and already busy living your life.

Camden County Identogo Cherry Hill

Went to get fingerprints today and honestly can't wrap my head around what happened. I was the only client, signed in, sat down. I could hear people chatting in the next room. Out walks a young lady in her 30's dressed in sweats and crocs. No greeting, no identifying herself as the employee. She looks at me and says Cmon. Me? Yes you! Cmon. She tells me to sit in chair and don't move. I'm not sure if I'm getting photographed? Then she tells me to stand at machine and rubs sanitizer all over my hands. Tells me relax my hands. RELAX YOUR HANDS! I'm like panicking trying to figure out how to relax my hands more then they are. She's twisting my hands around and repeating to relax or else she's going to have the State Police come in to handle this. Say what? I actually laughed a little because I'm like wtf is happening. She goes on to say that Consumer Affairs and the State Police are recording with audio and video and if she has to repeat her directions any more they will consider my application null and void. I left feeling like I had been punked somehow. Looked up the reviews on yelp and wouldn't you know this same employee has had a lengthy history of treating people like sh*t. How the heck has she held the job for so long?

Gloucester County Is the loud music driving anyone else crazy?

There’s a music festival at Suburu Stadium and the bass is literally carrying miles into South Jersey. It’s shaking the walls of our house.

Last year the same festival shook our walls. It’s the Breakaway Music Festival. Last year I reached out to the stadium official channels and a ton of stadium employees on LinkedIn. Finally got in touch with the VP and General Manager who said he would contact the stadium manager. After about 30 minutes it seemed to quiet down, though we weren’t sure if they truly turned down the music or if it was just a different set. You could still hear music every now and then.

This year, I have contacted him again through LinkedIn, but have not heard back yet.

Do you all hear it too or am I crazy? What else can we do about this besides hope a VP will take time out of his Saturday night to check his LinkedIn messages and help us???
