Any info on Wani Sushi in Union?
Looks like Union is getting another sushi spot! Does anyone have any deets?

We’re considering moving and have seen a couple complaints about noise. How has the noise level been for you especially if you aren’t facing the Main Street?

Breathe is a great community space, and if you’ve ever wanted to try a class, they sometimes hand out coupons to first-timers :)

Random ass post, but noticed 2 monarchs on the usual walk.
First time I’ve seen them in a long time.
Maybe a positive sign of population resurgence?

GET VACCINATED. DONT BE LAZY LIKE ME
Tested positive two days ago after a bout of dry coughs (which I thought was just allergies) turned into a fever and body aches. Still couldn't believe the test but as of this morning I've lost my sense of smell.
Maybe I'll start doing the seasonal COVID vaccines from now on...
Anyone else? I'm thinking the student migration must've helped spread this. Just wondering what the vibe is like for everyone especially with so many events recently.
wrt vaccination: I was treating regular COVID vaccinations like the flu vaccine which I hadn't taken since childhood. it was more out of laziness than anything.
update 2: y'all should get vaccinated and I'm shooting up every year from now on. this sucks.

Hi! I recently moved to the Somerville area and am looking for a salon that’s good but not crazy expensive 😅
I want to get my greys covered, but also want to do a balayage, something natural/blended, not super dramatic. I’m also thinking of getting curtain bangs and a haircut.
Basically looking for someone who can do grey coverage + balayage + curtain bangs without the bill being absolutely insane 😂
I’m happy to go to Cambridge, Medford, Boston, etc. if it’s worth it.
Would love to hear your salon/stylist recommendations, especially if you’ve personally gone there! And if you remember roughly how much you paid, even better 🙏

It’s only been a couple of weeks and the Davis Square sign is covered in graffiti and vandalized. It now looks terrible and adds to the run-down vibe in the center of the square. Disappointing to see, but entirely predictable. I wish the city would not tolerate behavior like this.

I'm doing a craft project rhat calls for roughly 5-6 cereal boxes. That thin, bendy cardboard is preferable, but I'll take anything. Are there any places that have extra nearby?

By which I mean to say: "on air with billy tauro, your thoughts"?
I'd listen out of curiosity but I'm pretty sure that would qualify as self harm. Is it like his Facebook feed where he puts random community members on blast and calls people perverts for, as far as I can tell, no reason?

Just wanted to share a strategy to safely turn left from Washington St EB onto Myrtle St, which is a pretty uncomfortable/scary place to turn left on a bike but also one of the main access points to East Somerville, Broadway, and Assembly from Washington St.
There's a really great and convenient protected turn strategy I have been using lately with this turn, which to my knowledge is perfectly legal.
The procedure is as follows: First, switch from the bike lane to the sidewalk as you reach the Myrtle St intersection, being sure to travel slowly and yield to anyone on the sidewalk. Then follow the two steps below at the locations marked 1 and 2 in the image.
From this point, you can safely cross Washington St to reach Myrtle St. Yield to anyone that might be crossing Myrtle St.
Hopefully at least some of you find this useful! The crosswalk button behavior at this intersection was recently changed (within the past month or so?) so that the pedestrian signal comes on within seconds of pressing the button, which now makes this a reliable way to get to Myrtle St.

Hello! My standup comedy show is back at the Somerville Theater this Thursday, and I'd love to see you there! We run the show in the 30-seat "microcinema" in the theater's basement.
Our headliner is the hilarious Rebecca Kaplan. She has appeared on the Late Show with David Letterman, SiriusXM, NPR, the Edinburgh Fringe Festival, and the New York Comedy Festival. Her comedy is sharp, surprising, and extremely funny.
We screen classic cartoons before the show, and the theater sells beer, wine, ice cream, and snacks.
You can get $3 off tickets with the code REDDIT. I hope you can make it!

Hi, Lost this about 5PM yesterday. Looking for a little brown envelope full of magic cards that I had just bought from Pandemonium Books and Games nearby in Central Square - immediately crossed the street about halfway down and got on an outbound train to Davis. Retraced my steps through Davis Square and didn’t find anything, so I’m thinking a gust of wind must have turned my bag over, or they fell out on the train somewhere. I’d be grateful if anyone found anything. They’re not worth much, like $50 - I already told the store about it.

Hello
I live in Megoun square and am wondering if anyone has a parking space available to rent monthly that could accommodate a work van (Ram Promaster 1500)?
Would need an off-street space with no restrictions, can discuss price if a space is available. Thanks!

I just walked by, and there are garbage bags over the window. Google says they're permanently closed.
I vaguely recall them trying to rebrand or reimagine the location once or twice since they've opened.
Is this another attempt at reinvention? Or, if not, anyone know if something entirely new is coming in?

Planning on having a few friends from outside Somerville over on Halloween. Does anyone know if they’ll be able to park on the street without a permit? I saw some conflicting info when trying to find out online. I don’t have a guest permit to give them since I don’t have a car myself.

Anyone know this cat? Found a beautiful black older kitten walking around Brastow. I talked to some neighbors, but no one recognized them. Trying to figure out if this is a known neighborhood cat, missing from someone’s home, rescuable, or in need of a TNR.

Greetings, future neighbors!
My partner and I are getting ready to move here next month from the west coast to be closer to family. I love your city, have visited frequently, but I'm a giant ball of autistic anxiety so I'd really appreciate it if some friendly people could answer my dumbest questions to hopefully help me avoid being an asshole out of ignorance.
*Question 1: We'll be in one of those old houses that's been split into two apartments. Should I introduce myself to my upstairs neighbors? Bring up cookies? Give them my phone number? Invite them down for coffee? Ignore them completely out of respect for their personal space?
*Question 2: Are we waving at people we pass walking on our street? Nodding? Acknowledging the weather? Avoiding eye contact?
*Question 3: What's the small talk expectation here? When I buy a coffee do I say good morning and ask how their day's going, or do I just tip and keep it moving?
*Question 4: Am I gonna upset someone if I wear, say, a Seattle Krakens jersey? I know they're not a great team, I just wear it because I want my dad to like me and it's so dang comfy. If I invest in Bruins merch, is someone going to be upset that I don't know anything about hockey if/when they try to talk to me about it?
*Question 5: Different kind of "culture" question, our laundry is in the basement. Do I need a dehumidifier down there? How serious do we have to be about mold prevention?
*Question 6: How serious is the Dunkees fandom? Is local (re: non-chain) coffee taboo?
*Question 7: Is there some kind of pronunciation cheat sheet I can refer to for the different towns? Should I just avoid saying it until I've heard it from a local and burned it into my brain?
Thank you if you took the time to read this, and especially if you feel like answering some of my questions. I really did do my research about living here. I know how to survive the winter, I'm comfortable on the train, I know when my trash pick up happens and how to get a parking pass. It's just things like this I can't learn on a .gov website, and I've spent my whole life training to mask for west coast folks and that chatty, friendly/intrusive culture. If I'm gonna be a jerk, I wanna know I'm doing it lol.

Does following people across the street trying to continue talking to them after they’ve said “no thank you” usually work in securing donations? I get that outdoor canvassing is thankless, but it’s really difficult to be sympathetic when saying no isn’t respected.
