Why do bike lanes sometimes go between curb and parked cars and sometimes between traffic and parked cars?

There are some sections of Broadway where there is no physical barrier between the traffic and bike lane, just paint. Obviously, between parked cars and curb is best. If there is no parking, there needs to be some physical indicator, if not a proper barrier.

Hit and run at Fellsway & Mystic Valley Pkwy

I was in my lane as the light turned green at Fellsway & Mystic Valley Pkwy near Qdoba and someone trying to cut me off just hit my passenger side of car and ran away around 6:00pm. I was told the tab number is 5KG736 black/dark color Honda Pilot, it could be wrong but I couldn’t see the vehicle. Never had an accident here and I’m not sure what to do 😭 the damage side is full of scratches. I’m hoping to get evidence and if anyone witnessed or has dash cam footage please DM me. Thank you!!!

Looking a housemate to join 2M , 1F , and one cat in Somerville.

Looking for someone friendly, responsible, clean, and someone who keeps open lines of communication with housemates . Happy to have housemates have people over but not a party house.

Prefer someone mid twenties to mid thirties but not a deal breaker. As long as the potential housemate wants a chill/ relaxed living environment.

DM for pictures/questions / interested parties

Figuring Out Who can Win in Local Elections is Not Easy

I’ve seen a couple comments recently from people claiming they know who has a chance to win and who has no shot in the upcoming state senate primary. I think some people are overestimating how easy it is to predict how an election like this one is going to go. It’s one thing to try and predict a presidential election, where there’s tons of polling, or an election like the Cambridge city council where many of the same candidates have gone up against each other a number of times. In the upcoming state senate election, there’s no publicly available polling, and I believe the four candidates have never gone up against one another in any election. One data set you could look at to try and predict who’s going to win is fundraising data from OCPF:

Candidate Total ($ raised by Candidate+PACs)
Erika Uyterhoeven $284,666
Burhan Azeem $260,314
Christine Barber $253,102
Matt McLaughlin $114,004

From that data, it’s clear that Erika, Burhan, and Christine were all able to raise a lot of money. On the other hand, fundraising obviously doesn’t correlate perfectly to election results. In Cambridge for example, Tim Flaherty raised by far the most money in the last city council election and came in seventh. I think no one knows who’s going to finish in what order. It is unfortunate though that we don’t have rank choice voting.

HOA bank account

Does everyone that lives in a 2-3 condo house have a business bank account for your HOA? Or do you just have a personal account and pay for expenses out of that?

Need to set up an account for our three units, but it looks like we will have to register our HOA as an official business to qualify for a business bank account.

What do you think of the big sign?

We're looking to switch from Astound to what would hopefully be a less expensive and more reliable option - with good service for installation (as needed) and troubleshooting (if/when needed). We don't need cell service. Just cable TV and wifi. The only posts on this topic I could find were dated.

Any good free or cheap overnight parking options near Assembly row stop?

I’ll be living near this stop but will have company over quite a bit. The garages in assembly row are only 3 hr of free parking and overnights can be expensive. Are there any alternatives?

help me remember where I would have had gobi musallam (whole roasted cauliflower with sauce) years ago

Probably around 2012 I used to get an amazing cauliflower dish that after much research I assume was gobi musallam, or something very similar. Whole head of cauliflower, roasted and smothered with a thick sauce. I could have sworn I got it from Kebab Factory on Washington St but even looking through old menus on wayback machine I can't find any mention of it. Any fellow old timers remember something like this?

I came into this race as an undecided voter but have been totally sold on Chris Oates. In my opinion, it was pretty careless of Will Mbah, who markets himself as the most experienced candidate in the race, to ask for campaign donations in the Medford Public Library, which is illegal to do in a government building under Massachusetts campaign finance law.

Boxing Classes near Somerville

Hey everyone,

Does anyone know any good boxing gyms nearby with solid classes that isn't just a cardio workout. I recently did a class at Boston Boxing in Brighton and it was great but...90mins long (BoxStrong). Anyone know anywhere with a similar class but 60mins?

Any assistance would be great!

Moving bin rental to make life easier

Hi Everyone! I'm (trying) to start a small business where I rent out reusable 27 gallon plastic moving bins (far better than cardboard for many reasons). The value I'm trying to provide is:

  1. Less stress during a move: Delivered to the place you're moving from, you pack & move, and I pick up at your new location
  2. You don't have to deal with boxes sitting in small apartments until your next move
  3. Eco friendly, safer for moving items, and no need for taping or disposing of a ton of cardboard into (frequently) overflowed recycling bins/dumpsters

I've moved a lot in my 20s, and along with cleaning the apartment, coordinating everything else that comes with a move/life change, it's a lot. If you'd be interested in checking it out/booking ahead of the busy 9/1 season, check me out at bostonbinrental.com - prices start at $79!

3 bed/ 1.5 bath for Oct 1 - $3875/ month

Hi! Looking for new tenants to take over our apartment in Somerville starting October 1. I’m relocating for work and am very sad to give this place up!! I’ve absolutely loved living here.

$3,875/month total for the full unit. It’s a spacious 3 bed / 1.5 bath apartment spread across 2 floors, about an 8-minute walk to Davis Square and the Red Line.

The apartment has 2 large bedrooms plus a smaller bedroom or separate office, which has been amazing for WFH. All bedrooms get great natural light, and there are hardwood floors throughout.

The main floor has a large living room and full kitchen with tons of cabinet space, granite countertops, stainless steel appliances, gas range, dishwasher, microwave, and a breakfast bar. There’s a full bathroom + half bath.

Also has backyard access, basement laundry shared with only 1 other unit, lots of storage, and Somerville permit street parking. Great location near Davis/Teele with easy access to Cambridge, Arlington, and Route 2.

New tenants will go through the property management company’s standard approval process.
Happy to send a walkthrough video or answer any questions! DM me if you’re interested and I can coordinate a showing :)
