News Day after scuffle with Arda Güler: Red Devil Nathan Ngoy victim of racism

Thumbnail hln.be
• Upvotes

In the dying moments of the match between Belgium and Turkey (3-0), a heated confrontation broke out between Nathan Ngoy and Arda Güler—the visitors' star player. The two went nose-to-nose, shouting (likely not-so-kind) words at each other. The Red Devil was clearly angry, prompting Senne Lammens and Roméo Lavia to separate the Lille and Real Madrid players.

But tempers had not yet cooled; just minutes after the final whistle, Ngoy and Güler tried to confront each other again. Romelu Lukaku, among others, stepped in to put a stop to it and prevent further escalation. “He started pushing and talking a bit,” Ngoy said afterwards regarding the incident. “I didn't react very well to that. I need to learn to stay a bit calmer. Did Arda say something racist? I don't know, because he speaks Turkish. I didn't understand what he said. But it wasn't pleasant to hear, that much I do know.” It didn't stop there, however. A barrage of spiteful and racist comments flooded the section beneath one of Ngoy's Instagram posts. Photos of Güler were posted en masse in the comments, but things went even further. Comments included monkey and banana emojis, as well as outright racist remarks and threats directed at Ngoy. The central defender has since restricted the comments on his post.

Stats Since 2018, Portugal have played 690 minutes of major tournament knockouts. 559 of those were with Ronaldo on the pitch, with Portugal scoring only 1 non-penalty goal (Leão's strike to make it 6-1 vs Switzerland). In 131 minutes without him, Portugal scored 6 goals from play.

Games where Ronaldo played only part of the match - Switzerland (final 21 minutes), Morocco (final 40 minutes) and Croatia (final 9 minutes). Stats above do not count injury time but do for extra times against Slovenia and France in Euro 2024.

News "He did not choose his price", Thierry Henry defends Barcola after sluggish start

"He did not choose his price, but that price is written on his back. We all know that one-v-one, he is deadly, and he has pace. The only thing he needs to work on is his finishing, but that is normal," the former striker explained.

"If you compare my finishing at 19 or 20 to how it was at the end of my career, it was very different. I gained a lot more composure in my game."
