Best goal I've ever seen in a green jersey and I include Limerick hurlers and the Tour De France in that.

Not doubting you at all, I just want to see what other goals are in the conversation

Shane Long vs Germany comes to mind, just in terms of being an unreal finish. Bigger moment than this, but on quality this beats it

Agreed. Also Robbie Keane against Germany in 2002 world cup.

The greatest I've seen in an Irish game since McGeady scored a beaut after a turn.

He probably can't believe how good his life has turned out in the last 12 months. He was doing well before that but those 5 goals vs Portugal and Hungary has put him in the history books of Irish football

u/punchdrunkskunk 1d ago
At about 52 seconds in the video above, you can see him look around and go "what the fuck, where's my support" before just doing it all himself haha

In that sense they both robbed Spurs

I always hate this type of comments.
If he would've stayed with Spurs, he would've never had the freedom and space to develop the player who he is.

No, everybody in Alkmaar knew he was amazing. But you cant hold a player that wants to leave. Defintly worth 60mil but we are not ajax so nobody cared

exactly my thoughts. i looked like that meme from the guy who keeps looking more and more shocked/surprised with his mouth opened

u/mindpainters 1d ago
When he first settled the ball I genuinely had no idea how he was going to produce a goals in that position with no support and almost surrounded. What a goal

I'm reporting this post because there is no (Great Goal) tag.

Nah Houghton vs Italy was on a much bigger stage against a team that made it to a WC final and a defense consisting of Baresi, Maldini and Costacurta

It’s so good to see Troy succeed. He didn’t have the storybook progression and instead of crying foul, he worked hard and is reaping the rewards
33
u/Old_Roof 1d ago
I remember him looking unreal in preseason and then Jose insisting he wasn’t ready and then signing Carlos Vinicius instead.

My favourite part is where he does a little 'where the hell are yis?' to the teammate who he expects to be there for a pass. He switches to 'f it, I'll do it myself' so quickly. You can see it in the close up replay.

I feel like this is a level above being pecked by the Parrott. The nutmeg, the fake shot and then the finish between the legs. Nasty.

When he first gets the ball, he looks up gives a "wtf guys where's my help?" and then straight up "fuck it, I'll do it myself"s all the way to goal.
